    Nice video! There were many great pointers that’ll help many players optimize their game shown in a presentable manner. I’d figure it’ll be worth throwing in my own two cents on a few points:
    -The Ancient Well is part of an update, and does not require DLC to use. The main use of the Well is actually acquiring SP Books otherwise unobtainable. If you can maintain a 3-star Well each map, on average you get around 15000 SP (for no DLC, and more with DLC maps on) you can freely distribute.
    -You can also feed Sommie for another 100 Bond Fragments regardless of what you fed them. There’s always extra Nuts to feed since multiple spawn after each map.
    -It’s recommended to donate to Brodia to Lv3 and each other nation to Lv2 asap. The extra minerals you get is cheaper than buying them later when they are sold at Timerra’s shop in limited quantities. If you feel like you got a lot of Gold, you can push Firene to Lv4 around mid-game for extra Silver on each future Firene map, where most of the game takes place.
    -While doing DLC maps early for a rocket start is great, it can be worth waiting a bit for special Emblem to Emblem interactions between those from the same game (for nostalgia.) In Veronica’s case, she has a special battle quote with Anna.

    Another pro tip is to max bond level Leif with everyone you’re going to be using and do it before ch 10. You only get his ring for a couple of chapters and he gives almost every weapon proficiency (everything except tomes and arts iirc).

    I started playing Engage not long ago, as usual I just went with Casual but dared to try Extreme, looking that I could lower it in Chapter 4 if it was too much, didn't happened, I'm doing fine.
    Right now I'm in the Somniel after finishing Chapter 7 with both paralogues done (no Tiki map nor DLC yet), and that was likely my toughest chapter so far, with 3 casualties (I protect the characters life anyway, as if it were Classic mode, unless I got myself in a guaranteed KO situation where I don't feel like going back with the Gem), then some 2 maps got 1 casualty but that's it.
    I looked at Anna Growth Rates and kinda inmediately decided to just stick to the higher level Boucheron until I somehow get her some levels up to promote her to Axe Mage Knight (I probably looked at High Priest too but that was blind on the efficiency page, and I did that looking at her amazing 50/50/50% Growth Rate in Mag, Dex, Skill).
    And just like I did with Bastion Knight Raphael in 3Houses I have already manages to get Louis tank Magical attacks, Res +2, Anna Ring Passive Skill + Pure Water does wonders this early (and that's without Lily's Poise and any Talisman too).

    Honestly, I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to casual runs (Hard Classic, As well as using Sword (and/or Magic) wielding, Hot, Edgy and/or Blue units) for Fire Emblem games lol. For repeat challenge playthroughs though, I tend to either try out different units builds, find different Support Conversations or do Iron Man runs.

    really really appreciate this video! I've been taking on Maddening for the first time recently after kind of bouncing entirely off a hard mode run midgame, not long after the game came out. my approach is very much like the one you start the video with (ie i would like to twist the game into a pretzel and snap it over my knee) which has been a little difficult, as a lot of reference material I'm finding is from sooner after the game came out. And that's theoretically fine, I *know* how to approach a Fire Emblem game, but Engage does a lot of weird stuff!!! I want the info that comes from it percolating in people's heads for a while!!!
    so thank you!!

      @slanax Год назад +3

      @@Pm3m_Dia I think they just haven't conceptualized what rolling a %chance on her awful base luck and only when she gets a kill actually means in practice, even if she were as competent in the earlygame as someone like Louis or Chloe. I genuinely don't believe anyone who made an engage guide and talks about how she gets you money has actually done that, they just heard of it and thought "oh money in the earlygame can be kinda tight, so that's a cool secret trick to put in my engage guide, 90% is a high growth so her luck must be good enough for this to be worth it"
      the video talks about how the Byleth ring comes too late for the build. This is supposed to get her to make relevant amounts of money before Byleth. No one has done that. If someone has done that, they've been grinding their ass off and gotten significantly more money off the random encounters than they did off Anna. at least the part about Byleth coming too late to be worth it is accurate bc when Byleth shows up the game also dumps 40k on you

    • @Shalakor
      @Shalakor Год назад +2

      @@slanax To be fair, random encounters basically cost you more than they're worth to do in Maddening, so almost nobody is going to be grinding those.
      Also, Axe Fighter has bad base Luck, not Anna. I'd say she's the exception to the rule where you get the best use out of her Second Sealing immediately into Martial Monk or Mage, even not factoring in boosting her Luck as a goal. You're only offsetting a few level ups, so it's not so bad of a handicap for making her viable right away instead of grinding out levels to reach class upgrade to get her into a magical class. This only counts if she didn't level up at all in her join paralogue, of course (might as well just keep going to level 10 at that point, so just leave her in the chest or only get just short of a full exp bar on her), and does optimally still like to have Tiki if you want it to be "worth it" totally.
      (Obviously, anyone else you keep low leveled enough to Second Seal base class to change their overall trajectory would theoretically be able to make use of a early Second Seal-ing, but there's not many cases where base class makes as big of a difference, so it's mostly the realm of special challenge runs or meme class runs for other characters. Anna's personal base stats just make so much of an impact in a better suited class. ...Though, she can still just be used straight in her starting class line, she not literally useless in it.)
      Pure efficiency isn't the be-all end-all good play. Magic Anna is an investment, but a very light investment for the fun of getting to use an annoying child to wreck some armies. At the very least, nobody should be allowed to stan Clanne and shit on Anna in the same breath, since she can easily beat him out early game with better future potential.
      At the end of the day, while Lck stacking on Anna won't make a huge difference in money early on like the stated goal claims (though, not zero difference), it's still not technically bad advice because it gets you a good unit both short and long term. And, it's always clear it's an optional route one could take if they want to, I've seen very few people actually give the advice as if it were the only correct and flawless choice.
      ...Also, it's advice that can just be applied mid or late game for people who benched Anna at first and now want or need to make use of her (such as for the sake of a change of pace in the former case or as a replacement unit for an Ironman run in the latter case).

    • @slanax
      @slanax Год назад +2

      @@Shalakor Anna's personal base Luck is 2. Even reclassed immediately to Martial Monk her base Luck is 5, meaning she gets you the incredible payoff to her personal skill (half an Iron Sword) for one of twenty kills. Alear has 1 more personal base Luck and starts four levels lower. Anna has bad base Luck.
      As far as when to second seal, I actually 100% agree with the video on that one. Go to Lv10 in the base class and do it after promoting (except maybe in the case of Jean who doesn't actually lose any progress from second sealing at base) An Anna that goes to Lv10 in Axe Fighter and then class changes to High Priest after promotion vs an Anna that reclasses to Martial Monk immediately (something you ironically enough need Byleth for without DLC but that's besides the point) and then has to climb to Lv10 to promote to High Priest is a difference of about +1.5 HP, -1 Mag, +0.5 Spd, -0.5 Def and -0.5 Res. Functionally no difference, but the Lv10 Axe Fighter path gets into the better promoted classes with higher Mov and better stats significantly sooner. And in this case, at least Axe Fighter can hit armors with Hammers and gets to use tomes sooner, while Martial Monk is stuck with Arts off of pathetic 4/7 Str/Mag bases (I'm not even gonna consider second sealing her to Mage if you want her to go High Priest. If your goal is for her to make money you're not paying for *two* Second Seals just to get her into her class)
      I also never once actually said that Anna was bad. At best I said that Chloe and Louis are better during the earlygame, which should be uncontroversial. I certainly didn't compare her to Clanne (although for the record I do think Clanne's on average gonna contribute more than Anna to the part of the game before Pandreo shows up and blows both of them out of the water) Anna is not what you'd consider an efficient choice, but I don't actually have a problem with a beginner's guide saying "hey if you want to make Anna useful, you should make her a magic class". I just don't think that High Priest should be the class that's recommended first and foremost (nor that Luck should be what her classes are primarily evaluated by) because the "benefit" of High Priest's higher Luck is vastly overrated. The video does at least mention alternatives, which makes it better than others, but only as a footnote to High Priest and its Luck growth.
      Sage and Mage Knigh are both better options for a magic Anna. Sage's stats are pretty much a flat upgrade over High Priest (meaning she's better at getting the kills required to get *anything* out of her personal) and they still have the staff access and Mystical class type, while Mage Knight sacrifices a bit of damage for a significant Speed lead especially with Chaos Style, and also benefits in terms of Emblem synergy like being on a horse for Cavalry Bonded Shield (especially useful on a high offense, low defense unit like Anna, who you want to be the part of your horse wall that gets attacked) and having your pick of physical weapon type to use for breaks or Engage attacks (like Levin Sword Overrides, or if you really wanna start cooking, Hurricane Axe Great Aethers) Mage Knight is what I consider to be the best class for Anna that I'm aware of, so I'd always recommend that unless you have plans that you need her being a Mystical class for (or you really need the extra staff user)
      After going to Lv20 in her promoted class (not impossible to reach, but solidly late- to endgame territory) High Priest, Sage and Mage Knight Anna have an average of around 24, 19 and 16 Luck respectively, and equipping Byleth (probably her emblem of choice anyways for the Mag and Spd) boosts that to 34/29/26. That means that on average, getting a kill with her will earn you 170G with High Priest, 145G with Sage, and 130G with Mage Knight. Now none of those numbers are impressive at that stage of the game (because again, her personal skill only gets you half an Iron Sword and is bad) and the difference of up to 40 whole Gold per kill certainly isn't anything to be worth overall worse performance in all other aspects, but even then, a High Priest (or Sage) getting one kill on player phase and then having to be protected because she's frail and dies to everything is gonna make less money than a Mage Knight enemy phasing 2-3 or even more enemies from the safety of Bonded Shield. So even if you're trying to max out your Anna money, High Priest isn't the option to go for.
      (incidentally, these numbers are without Tiki. With Tiki, the comparision makes High Priest look even worse, because all three options get the same flat Luck boost of .15 per level, making High Priest's lead comparatively smaller. You're instead looking at 190/165/150G per kill, which is also still nothing to write home about. Also, don't waste her SP and skill slots on +Lck skills. Give her skills that make her better at killing things instead, because being better at killing things will improve her money gains anyways, while also actually being useful.)
      tl;dr
      - I have nothing against magic Anna but please put her in a class that's good and not High Priest
      - High Priest's Luck lead is so unbelievably insignificant with regards to her personal
      - Luckstacking on Anna is in fact bad advice because luckstacked Anna is not only worse overall but even gets outclassed by her other options at the one thing you're luckstacking her for. Because of this, High Priest Anna should not be recommended to anyone, least of all beginners looking to have an easier time with the game.

The luck cap is only 2 points lower than high priest, and the extra speed and survivability allows her to proc her personal skill more reliably on the enemy phase than if she were a frail magic class. Other comments have pointed it out already but Anna is not, in fact, the secret tech to make money, she's a money sink and training project that takes up resources first and foremost and only pays off when you no longer need her to, and I have numbers to back it up.
    So, Anna starts unpromoted in the Axe Fighter class. That means to get her into High Priest (or alternatively a class that's like. good) you'll need both a Master and a Second Seal, which runs you a cool 5000 Gold. So already, if you want Anna to be an asset to your finances overall, she starts with a -5000G hole to climb out of before she gets you any net benefit whatsoever (technically if she uses a seal that you got from an enemy drop or something, you don't directly pay 5000 for her, but a seal she uses is a seal that another unit like Chloe can't use, and by extension a seal you'll have to buy for Chloe instead. She uses 5000G worth of very contested resources is the point. You won't just have the extra seals lying around with no one who wants them.)
    Now to get back the 5000 you spent to get her into High Priest, she needs to trigger her personal 10 times. The chance to do that starts at a very cool and reasonable 3% because her base Luck is awful (fun fact Anna is tied for having the lowest base Luck in the whole game) but let's be generous and use the 10 Luck she'll more or less have after promotion, because that makes the numbers nice and easy. That still means she needs to kill about 100 enemies before she *breaks even* on the resources you bought for her to even do her job.
    Now Anna isn't exactly a juggernaut that you throw into enemies and kill everything with. She's frail. Most kills she gets will only come from others weakening enemies first and her getting the kill on player phase, which also means that unless you play very slowly to deliberately force feed her as many kills as possible, she'll maybe get 5 kills per map, especially early on when your tools are limited and you don't have many options and resources to make her a strong unit yet. At 5 kills per map, it'd take *20* maps for her to pay off her own usage cost. Even if you get her 10 kills per map, a herculean task for an underleveled frail unit that will require multiple dedicated babysitters and for your whole army to hold back lest they accidentally finish the chapter, she still takes 10 maps, just to break even. And remember, we're generous with her Luck stat here. Realistically she's not even gonna be promoted yet for the first couple of those maps - if you want her to promote, the fastest way to do that is by spamming Micaiah staves and Great Sacrifice, and if she's doing that she's not getting kills and by extension not getting gold.
    Beating Chapter 14 gets you 40,000G. That's the 8th chapter Anna's around for. By that point she's lucky to have gotten you maybe 2000G if you *really* fed her a lot of kills, which means she's still a net negative of 3000G by then.
    Anna doesn't make you money. Progressing the story makes you money. Don't use Anna for money, use Anna because you want to use Anna anyways and take the money as the occasional neat side benefit that ultimately doesn't matter. I don't think anyone who's made an Anna gold farming tutorial has ever actually done that, and if they did, then they didn't keep track of how much money they actually made off of her.
    In fact, if you do want Anna to make the most money she can (it's never gonna be a lot until maybe late in the game when money isn't an issue anymore) High Priest isn't even the class to do it with. To make money, Anna needs to get kills, and High Priest's stats are not good at that. Instead, you can have her go Mage Knight, and stick another Cavalry unit with Lucina behind her to use Bonded Shield. Now she's an actual competent unit instead of the bad mage you begrudgingly drag along with you and painstakingly feed kills to because a youtube tutorial told you that's how you make money, and she'll get lots of kills on enemy phase because enemies see her low Defense but not her invincibility from Bonded Shield. Her Luck is only about 2/3 of what it would be in High Priest, but she will get about five times as many kills, so she'll still make three times more money than the High Priest build.
    And now she's even doing productive things like pulling and taking out groups of enemies instead of fighting for scraps that your good units left over to maybe get you the money to buy half an Iron Sword 10% of the time. That's what it is. It's half an Iron Sword, every ten kills. Anna's personal skill is *garbage*.

    • @_RoyalBlue_
      @_RoyalBlue_  Год назад +1

      Lots of fair points here. I included Anna in the guide as just a potential option for those who do in fact want to use Anna and having her gold personal skill is an added side bonus. Merely pointing out the potential benefits of her skill and possible promotion paths that offer more luck than others. By no means is it an easy or surefire way to make lots of gold without some investment. Investing in her is something you CAN do but absolutely isn’t required. I think I mention it in the video but I have never personally invested in Anna this way. I’ve actually made more gold using Lief on covert units and that required almost no investment gold wise.

    • @slanax

      @@_RoyalBlue_ On rewatching that section, it at least doesn't explicitly call Anna a good way to make money, but there's still some glaring inaccuracies in there that suggest that, like "making her a High Priest definitely isn't a waste" (it is, both of money and of her potential as a combat unit) or "Byleth comes so late that it defeats the purpose which is to make as much money as early as possible" (Anna will will not make you money before you get the Byleth ring, and Byleth is absolutely the best ring for Anna - she likes the extra damage, likes the extra speed, and likes having her bad Luck stat patched up a little bc it'll still at best be middling by then)
      Oh yeah, and something I didn't even realize initially: High Priest needs Arts proficiency to go into. If you don't have the DLC, the earliest ring that gets you Arts proficiency *is* Byleth. And when you get Byleth you also get 40k gold. Good news in a sense, because hopefully getting all their money problems solved for the rest of the game made at least a few beginner players following bad advice like "High Priest Anna is worth it and a good idea" reconsider and save their Second Seal.
      (though High Priest literally being locked behind the solution to any money problems you may have does support my theory that not just you, but no one who made any of those "beginners guide tips and tricks for Engage" videos ever actually used High Priest Anna, that the build is purely theoretical, and that they left it to the target audience, beginners who don't know better, to find out that their theory is junk.)

      When I said making her a high priest isn’t a waste I’m referring to the fact that her good magic growth would be utilized along with the potential luck. And of course again, this is all just said for those who WANT to invest into Anna. If people want to use Anna as a main part of their roster then most people would want to put time and resources into her and wouldn’t care about the cost. That’s at least how I am with the characters I like. Again, this is just to outline what you CAN do with Anna if you want to try and utilize her gold personal skill. But you’re right. I don’t explicitly lay out the cost and investment needed to make it work at all. Everything in the game takes some investment and it’s just up to the player to decide what’s worth it to them. That’s why I love Fire Emblem. I have the choice and customizability to do what I want!

      @@_RoyalBlue_ I'm not saying you can't use Anna or that using Anna is incorrect. I'm not even saying that you can't ever put her into High Priest (though if your goal is to make her the best unit she can be, you shouldn't) I'm saying that "if you're having money problems you can consider Anna" is bad and counterproductive advice that doesn't belong in a guide for beginners.
      In theory, you can beat the game with your entire army in Armor classes. It's harder than if you don't do that, but the game gives you the tools to still beat it. That still doesn't mean that "reclass your entire army to Armor Knight" is good advice for a new player, even though you can do that and it's possible to beat the game like that. In the same vein, you can use High Priest Anna, and she might even pay off her own usage cost by Chapter 20 or so, but it still doesn't make "use High Priest Anna to make money" good advice for a beginner who wants to know how to have an easier time with the game.
      The video is explicitly framed as useful advice for beginners. "Helpful Gameplay tips" is in the title. But putting an investment project unit that costs money first and foremost into the "here's how to get the most money" section directly implies that putting in that investment into that unit will pay off and get you more money than you put in, which isn't true. Beginners who will look to this video for advice will not be able to accurately judge whether or not that investment is worth it to them, because the advice that they're following is misrepresenting the potential gain (namely, by saying the Byleth ring comes too late, you are directly implying that she pays for herself and then some before Byleth. This is just not true.)
      Anna having a high Luck growth in High Priest is at best unrelated to money management and at worst actively misleading about how best to get more money in Engage. That's why High Priest Anna doesn't belong in the money section of a beginner's guide. "What you can do with Anna if you want to try and utilize her gold personal skill" doesn't belong in there (and even if it did, improving her combat with Mage Knight will do that better than focusing on where her Luck is the highest number) That and only that is my issue with the video. Sorry that yours had to be the one that I dump this whole rant under, but I do think that this particular piece of advice will actively make the game harder for beginners that believe it and now sit on a subpar Anna 5000G in the hole on seals.
      Good advice for beginners about Anna would instead be something along the lines of "Anna has potential as a strong magic unit but it will require a lot of investment to get her there that you should only spend if you really want to use her. You may think that she's useful to train up because her personal skill can make you extra money, but in practice, the activation rate and money gained is going to be very low for a lot of the game especially relative to the investment you'll need to put into her. Because of this, using her specifically to make money isn't recommended because it takes too long to actually pay off, and you should focus on her potential as a combat unit instead if you want to train her, rather than only focusing on her Luck." This frames Anna's personal in the context of a playthrough while also pointing to her actual strengths and weaknesses as a unit.
      (will also admit that as someone already plenty familiar with Engage, seeing this pop up in my recommendations and it being a relatively recent video I did literally only click it to see if High Priest Anna would make an appearance. So if I seem a bit hung up on that, it's because I'm only here on a quest to save the new FE players from the beginner trap that is High Priest Anna.)
      again, sorry that you were the one beginner's tips guide that I ended up going off on. the rest of the video seems to know what it's talking about and you aren't even that all-in on anna being good for money making but she still has no business being in there.

      @slanax I totally get where you’re coming from. In reality, unless you blow your money on donations or sink it into too many items and other things to purchase, 5000g or so won’t really harm you. Maybe my wording should be more clear or the distinction between “what to do to get more money” vs “what you CAN do if you’re already using Anna and want to utilize her Magic classes” should be more clear but in the end, it’s just a tip from someone who sees it as a small side bonus for an Anna lover. Haha it’s really just not that serious. All “tips” are optional to follow. Just things to look out for if you’re completely lost.

    What I wish I knew sooner is that units that have fallen behind too far get borderline unusable at some point.
    Sure, there are some ways to make them catch up but they feel more like exploits than anything.
    This is especially annoying if you consider classic can take away characters permanently. There should be a more reasonable way to build up lower units.
    "It has always been like this" and "Just choose what units you want right away" are stupid excuses for this kind of design.

      i do appreciate the sentiment of the video, its cool your trying to help out new players who are trying to get the game 9 months after launch, its pretty admirable imo since most other youtubers moved onto other games.
      also a couple more things about the prior video, you shouldve mentioned tiki being dlc since alot of people look for tips might be confused when they try to get her for anna luck strats and the shop discount card.
      also i dont think training skirmishes are a part of maddening if I recall correctly . maddening skirmishes are just bloodbaths with units who scale to your strongest and always have permadeath iirc.

      I really appreciate your comments man!
      I figured if someone was confused about the tiki ring and it being DLC they could always look that up. I thought it might be pretty common knowledge but I’ll keep that in mind for future vids to be a bit more comprehensive with that kind of stuff.
      Also, I believe I did a training skirmish myself on my most recent maddening run. But I could also be misremembering.
