- In this video I showcase the sonic & knuckles zones of the sonic 3 1103 prototype except for lava reef.
NOTE: I can't hand out the rom, it's W. I. P.
It's currently in development and the creator of this hack is The Hiding Hider.

Strange when loading into Mushroom Valley Sonic spawned in Knuckles’ path instead
Man, Knuckles' Sky Sanctuary here looks like Sonic and Tails somehow got themselves in hell
What I'd like to see is the final Mushroom Hill stage layout superimposed over the object layout that's in 1103, and see how well they line up. Considering there's also partial palette data, just how far along was that Zone before they decided to scrap it in favor of saving it for S&K?

Sandopolis looks like it was mixed with Wood zone, an unused zone from Sonic 2, and it honestly looks cool
Probably cos it was build up on top of Wood Zone. I belive that Sonic 1, 2 and 3 were made on top of each other.

Sonic 2 was made off of sonic 1 cause of the nick arcade build having alot of leftovers from Sonic 1
Sonic 3 was made off of Sonic 2 cause of sonic and tails sprites in the 1103 prototype

I think they should used the layout of the SK levels used in the cancelled Sonic 3C's first prototype.

Sandopolis looks like it’s coming together slowly, the texture for the level are still messed up though

If only Sega was smart enough to begin development on a 24 megabit cartridge seeing as how a lot of games developed around this period did such, because there was no way to fit everything onto a 16 meg cart. I'm pretty sure Sonic & Knuckles was only tauted to be a huge 30+ meg adventure because of the chip for blue sphere and for knuckles in sonic 2. Also, they really shouldn't have set up the McDonalds toy stuff for February lol. Although this prototype was dated November 3rd I feel like it'd have to be a month earlier, because the final Sonic 3 we got was finished on 11/20/93

i like the sound of the bass in this version of the song but it defenitely doesn't fit mushroom hill so i can understand why they remived it. Still, in the soundtrack there is never a bass that sounds like this and i think it would have fit other zones' themes but oh well

Well. No idea, as the hack is not mine, but from The Hiding Hider, the hack is making good progress tho, they managed to port knux in 1103, along with the title screen and some 0408 layouts.

Whats with the color pallet and music being all wacky and stuff? I understand the collision to some extent but not the rest
I think it plays early or WIP versions of the songs before they were finally finished in S&K
I mean, this is a prototype. There're limited colors unlike the final release. And some instruments are wrong but I'm not sure why
The reason why is because the disassembly rejects the new palettes, and the music is always like that in the prototype, yes I’m the creator of this ROM hack.
the color pallets are probably leftovers from very early in development, possibly when hydrocity zone was chemical plant and angel island was emerald hill, predating the 1103 prototype
Lemme correct you, the color palettes are scuffed up glitched versions of the wrong types of compression, (the graphics were ported from sonic 3 & knuckles thats why) , and chemical plant isnt ID 02 like Hydrocity, but its ID is 0D which is leftover from early stages of the game's development, and its purpose is unknown
Why is the flying battery boss always the default boss that gets loaded regardless of the level? I've seen that happen in other prototype shenanigans videos in numerous levels. I'm just curious.

That's because it's the second part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Both games were supposed to be one single cartridge, but due to time constraints and a deal with McDonald's, they had to split the game into two and delay the second half. You can play them both as one game via Lock-On Technology.

Because there is no title card art for SK zones included in this prototype. So they forced the game to load the last title card file "launch base"

Ok, so what you wanna do is select a random Genesis game, click on it, start playing it, and clicking on the 3 points, then click on the "back" Arrow, and click on "load game" select the folder where you have the rom, and select it.

the prototype of Sonic 3 still used Sonic 2's sprites, since it was built off it just like Sonic 2 was built off of Sonic 1.

the reality way to use Debug Mode in this early Sonic 3 Prototype is just pressing "UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP UP" A + Start, for me when playing on a computer, i press S, and hold it while being in the Level Select to pick either a Zone, Bonus Stage, or the Time Attack Mode
