If you use masking tape on the back of the wheel hubs when you’ve prepped wheel, it saves having to remove excess paint after. When the wheel comes out of the oven the masking tape peels of easy 😉
I need to get mine done too, but I now understand more than ever why it’s not a cheap process. I would get mine ceramic coated afterward as well, to minimise brake dust sticking.
I painted my sets myself with spray paint, it cost £40 a wheel and obviously I needed another set of wheels if I wanted to use the car, I think that was around £280. Makes perfect sense for me as I put on winter tyres and refurb the summer. Cheaper and the job is only as good as your will too put in, but it beats the quote of £580 excluding VAT.
The first wheel you had balanced is still buckled! And not where is was welded... you could see when they spun it before the welding, that it was buckled twice, and they took out the worst buckle with the weld. Does it run true on the road? With a rear buckle you will feel it in the seat not the steering etc.
The one question I have always had about getting my wheels refurbished is once the wheels I have gone through the process, is the resulting finish as hard wearing and durable as the original treatment. Or are my wheels now going to be less resistant to future damage and wear? It’s really hard to get an honest answer, because the wheel manufacturers tell you that no they aren’t because they want to sell you new wheels, and the repairers tell you that they are because they want you to have them repaired. Every answer is a business based decision not a true evaluation.
Hello i am always mistakes in tight area with clear paint can u make some video how to spray clear paint in tight area without drops fall or orange peel
Nice video. OEM colour was 100% the right choice. So many nice BMWs especially e36s and e43s going around with absolutely criminal alloy jobs. Your e60 is not one of them!
@@GeorgeAusters ive got project for you but its entirety up to you. ive got golf gt d mk gun metal grey 09 plate metalic rims on it front damage my car had an accident a month ago and air bags have poped out and its not recorded 180k on clock but its a beautiful car atm cant offered to fix so i thought if you want to have look at it and buy it for low price and rebuild it into gti replica etc for your RUclips or even u can take the csr apart and sell the parts ... let me no what you think
the paint is removed on the hub ... for the heat to leave from the brakes through the alloy aswell .... if not wheels can warp .. .... paint stops this ... use the proper mask discs not a blade ...
Resuming the video, the most important part you left out. You missed the straitening part of the job. I think dat is the most interesting to know how is made. the rest is striping the old paint and repaint.
What does that convert to US currency? To look at your wheels before they were done, I thought they looked great. I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and they look like junk. I would like to get mine refinished.
How much did they charge you???? this is so everyone that watched your vid can get an idea of the value. If I missed your price - I can not understand why you would not say, then please allow me to apologise.
My fav alloys. When both my mates bought a E60. One listened to my advice to make sure he got the spiders. The other didnt listen and regrets it. Doesnt wsnt to do wheel swaps.

Excellent video. I would have liked to have seen how they straightened the wheel.
Went there last week for a refurb on my diamond cut 19 inch M Sport wheels. Superb, thanks for the video
Glad to hear, did you let them know you saw my video? 👌🏻

Damn I’m pretty sure Alloy Refresh charge less than you paid to do them yourself 😢
They look absolutely stunning!! Fair play getting hands on with doing them too mate!
that Is the best job I have seen In a long time. no dad is gonna wanna do that, in his garage all day and night. perfect jobs.
👌🏼
I just got mine done also George, I got them in gunmetal grey with silver flakes, I’ll try send a pic
Nice one man!
Just getting mine refurbed at the minute on my F30 320d - they were a right state!
At Alloy Refresh?
@@GeorgeAusters Unfortunately not - I hadn't seen your video until last night.
Thanks George, really good to see behind the scenes on the alloys getting the VIP treatment 👍
Cheers Stephen!
They look brilliant, George. Makes me want to ship my 1er rims overseas to the UK for a refresh!
Haha tempting isn’t it!
Brilliant job. A lot more involved than I thought. The cost is easily justified :-)
Certainly is!
How much is the cost to do something like this?
Carl Froch is that you?
Superb video, very well explained
Thank you!
Superb video. My 19 inch M sport alloys from my 435xd need tidying as the lacquer is coming off, will give them a call
Cheers mate, make sure you mention this vid and they'll sort you out!
perfect time to change the colour...go for a gunmetal or something similar but u stayed silver 😱
It’s a grey car so grey wheels would be too much in my opinion... I much prefer the OEM look👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters must admit they did come up well
Off topic, sorry. Could you explain how they lifted car to place jack stands and where? I'm assuming he did it one corner at a time.
2 on front subframe and 2 on side jacking points👍🏻

They’re painted from factory and powder coat is generally harder wearing
Bmw wheels are powdercoated from factory as are 97% of oem wheels, if the refurbishment is correctly done using powdercoat it will be just as durable
Hello i am always mistakes in tight area with clear paint can u make some video how to spray clear paint in tight area without drops fall or orange peel
The OEM colour looks so much better than 'The trend' to have the black/grey (looks like hub caps missing look). Excellent.
Totally agree
If you don’t like the trend then don’t simply as that
@@user-rn4tt9gw2p What a strange reply!
Bloody hell, these wheels looked pristine compared with the state that mine were in before I got them refurbished.
Yeah was just normal curb rash
Can you please update sizes of the front and rear tyre size with fit to wheel 172
?did anyone spot the warp in the balanced wheel?
Fresh wheels look sooo good.
I'd be scared to drive it though 😂
Great video dude was thinking of having mine done but I might be selling it jan-feb next year so might not bother
I would actually think the opposite. Having perfect wheels would actually help sell a car!
Ye true that’s a good point 🤫mmmmm lol how much does it just.powder coated? I have the 18” mv’s?
@@simonpeters888 Try sunset powder coating in Dudley they did my spiders for £120 all 4 alloys

OEM colour is not a powder coat! This is a cheaper way of replicating it. The OEM way is painting ontop of a powder coat primer.
what is the typical cost of the job.?
Give the team at Alloy Refresh a call or message them via their Facebook page.
Looks amazing mate how much would this cost
Best to get in touch with them for a quote mate👊🏻
Good job!
Hi, can I ask, what is silver powder name or code you guys using?
Not a clue sorry
what powder colour did you use and is that a clear coat put on at the end
Yes
Alloys look,amazing 👏👍good job!
Yep they sure do a good job!
George how much, time they need for a job?thanks
Excellent video thanks 😊 👍
Welcome man!
Awesome man! But how to they fix chips etc which can't just be sanded down as it would leave an indent?
Most chips are just in the paint which is then removed once dipped in acid.. If there was any real damage to the bare metal then it could be welded
@@GeorgeAusters ok great, cheers!
Wow Carl Froch telling us how to refurb alloys 😂
Haha!
Ha ha ha professionale 😀😀 the first one curbed after balancing😀😀😀
What sand paper grit do they use.
Not sure
How much does this process cost?
Look amazing! Is that the OEM colour code used on your wheels?
Cheers mate, yes it’s a flat aluminium 👍🏻
I always thought that powder coat is based on electrostatic adhesion. This looks like a simple paint with clear coat...
It’s definitely powder coat👍🏻
How long does the refurbishment process take?
Best to call them for an accurate time but generally you're looking at 1-3 days

200 for 4? In the USA this service would be $200+ per wheel.

Ouch. The repair guy scratched the wheel
What you mean?
I got as far as watching you reverse the car through the gate and by then I lost patience, why? What has reversing a car got to do with alloy wheels?

Les nuts des tires, n'on pas été séré correctement.
Ce n'est pas la façon de faire que j'ai appris!

❤️
first wheel balanced is bent :: shrug ::
It’s all sorted now👍🏻
When that wheels getting balanced is it me or does it look bent 🤣😂
It was buckled but they repaired it
So you sandblast which keys the surface then you stand there and hand sand to key the surface 🤷♂️😂
Sandblasting is to remove anything left on the wheel
It keys the surface as well though so no need to then re sand wasting time and effort
I’m not sold on that. I’d rather buy a new set of wheels.
New set of wheels for £2000?
No. For my Volvo XC60 R design
