Guy you are a life saver . I haven't done my pool cleaning right since I've bought, I didn't know what I was doing wrong, I bought said filter from a family friend so I didn't get all instructions. After about a week the stickers to the damn pump washed off after a few hard rains. So for about to months maybe three smh yeah I know I didn't know I needed to have the drain hose hooked up for back wash, that it was only for the rinse cycle. But lol about a day ago, I was multi tasking with fixing a carburetor on a four-wheeler. while I was doing that I took a wrong step to cleaning the pool. I ended up hooking up the hose during the backwashcycle I started to notice that the glass that supposed to tell you what's going on with your water started to work which it didn't ever work so that's why I knew I felt like I was doing something wrong so I was like oh my gosh I think I figured it out finally but then I guess debris got around the pump area and it started making a really loud noise so I thought I broke it so I turned it off and I let it sit overnight thinking that I broke it it's about a $200 to $250 pump so I was scared lol. Wow guy you my friend are -my- life saver because not any where else did I see that step anywhere I want to thank you you are a God blessing. So much!
I take back everything I said. I've been doing it wrong and didn't realize the backwash was on the opposite of the filtering because it was scratched off!! What a dope I am!1 Thank you
Thanks great video easy to follow and understand. I bought my home which came with a beautiful pebbletech inground pool. I knew nothing about pool care but was determined to learn and that's what I did from videos like yours. You can't always go by what neighbors and friends tell you because they may not know. Like I had an in law volunteer to get me started. He had me back wash the filter once till it ran clean then add the DE which I later discovered was over twice what the Hayward 3600 took. The filter elements kept clogging between each other.
Thank you for this. Just tried to backwash mine without any hose hooked to the end. Wasn't given one and directions don't state to install one. Just sprayed water everywhere lol. Searched and found this video, now I understand why I just made such a mess. I need a hose on that end!

So I watched your video and went outside and did what you said WOW!!!! That water was nasty green and omg I can't believe that. SO thank you so much :)

Thank you very much for the video. I'm a new homeowner and the house we bought has an inground salt water pool. I have been in touch with a pool company and they tested the water sample I brought in and it had a chemical in it that shouldn't be there. They advised me to drain the pool a couple feet at a time and refill it and repeat that a few times. The only problem is I just figure out how to backwash it with this video and I'm not sure how to drain it. Instead of having a hose coming off the filter to drain on the ground it has a pvc pipe going in to what I assume is the city sewer. Is there anyway you could explain to me how I would drain the pool. One other thing is when I backwashed the filter the clear glass has three slots in it and water started shooting out of it. was I doing something wrong? Thank you very much for the video.
No sand should not shoot into the pool. You may want to shut the filter off then set to the rinse cycle until the site glass is clear. Then switch back to filter setting. Hope this helps you out.

Hello great vids .I have a problem with my Sand Filter, can't figure it out, I am getting no pressure showing on the gauge when the pump and filter are running in filter or normal mode, i also do not see water in the glass that is attached to the sand filter. The water has good flow, the pump sucks it into the skimmer then into the filter and returns it to the pool with excellent flow but it shows no pressure on the filter gauge, the gauge is new,, when i backwash it the glass on the filter fills with dirty water, when i rinse it ,,the glass fills with water but like i said when i run it in normal of filter mode i see no water in the glass, and i see no pressure on the pressure gauge ,also the return is sending some sand back into the pool. Thanks
@@andrewfuller5836 Hey Thanks for the response, I've been standing in my pool shed for 7 years waiting for an answer.Maybe this year I can finally swim throughout the summer. Lol just joking .Have a great summer.
Back washing pulls water through your skimmer to backwash junk out of filter. Just be sure to rinse after back washing. My daughters pool installer did not tell her this, and she was wondering how sand was getting in her pool. 😆😆
It depends how dirty the bottom of the pool is. If it's not too bad you can use filter. Then back wash and rinse the sand. If it's really dirty you may want to vacuum on waste so that the algae and debris does not end up in the filter sand buy instead bypasses the filter and goes out. This video will explain the different filter settings. Thought it might help you out ruclips.net/video/zXQbpJqhbmU/видео.html
why is it that I just bought my sand filter and im trying to backwash it but when i turn off the system im opening up the drain hole to connect the pipe...water starts gushing out...not able to attach the holes. am i doing something wrong? my pool is dirty and trying to clean it....Im suppose to backwash, rinse and filter...when you first buy the sand filter right????
Mayra Acosta there should be a knob up near the pool that "locks" the water coming thru the tubes. I lock them and that seems to reduce all the water gushing out while I'm preparing to backwash. I don't know what kind of pool you have so I might have just confused you. also, yes, it's backwash, rinse, filter. make sure you shut the filter off when changing those settings.
mayan zamir You could probably back wash some of the water out. If you need to drain the entire pool you could use a garden hose and siphon it out, it may take a long time, but free if you have a garden hose.
For several years I was using the waste out to backwash. The handle is always in the filter position 12 o'clock blocking the backwash (6o'clock) and was scratched out so I never saw the backwash setting. the water was always clean when it came out and never had an issue filtering. I changed the sand after 6 years and now my multiport valve is leaking after the backwash or the waste out. I was going to repair it but the spider gasket is $32.00 so I got a brand new multi-port valve online for $67.00. IF I DIDN'T SEE YOUR VIDEO AND IF I KNEW THE BACKWASH WAS AT 6 O'CLOCK. (scratched out) I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN. I THOUGHT I WAS THE POOL MAVEN!! NOT. Everything in your video was spot on about the sand issues and now I have a new valve and I know where the (BACKWASH) IS!! You had to see all the green stuff coming out after I had leaf scraps and dirt in there! Now I know as much as you!! Thank you again!! Karen Now I am at %99 of my pool knowledge!:-)
Your actually working the switch to the pump that's the only way to turn the filter on or make it work. That's why you get used to saying,"turn the filter on or off". The pump runs the filter that's where everyone is getting confused.
i accidentally set the handle to Closed so the gauge went above the red level and now the handle won't even budge. I just turned off the pump and now i need help!
it's fine now. I figured it out. I just had to unscrew the air valve beneath the gauge as air was trapped inside the filter. the moment i did this, the indicator went down to green instantly. It's a very sneaky trap every pool owner should be aware of.

Thanks for the video. By the way...what's the recirculate setting for?
Bypass filter and just circulates the water
Its usually used for salt water pools. When you out in your salt bags at the beginning of the season, it bypasses the sand filter so the salt chunks can dissolve and not affect the filtration system.
So do you then have to get a hose and add back water to the pool that you just lost from the backwashing?
It depends how long you leave it on. If it’s just to clean the algae out, you shouldn’t have to.

Thanks
Hey Guitar Hack, LOL, It sounds to me and what I have experienced? That you have to much Sand in the Filter and it is Plugging your lined up?
@@andrewfuller5836 Hey Thanks for the response, I've been standing in my pool shed for 7 years waiting for an answer.Maybe this year I can finally swim throughout the summer. Lol just joking .Have a great summer.
isn't there supposed to be a rubber gasket in the multi port valve...
I am new to sand filters, when I backwash do I need to plug my skimmer up? isn't backwashing pulling water from my pool?
Back washing pulls water through your skimmer to backwash junk out of filter. Just be sure to rinse after back washing. My daughters pool installer did not tell her this, and she was wondering how sand was getting in her pool. 😆😆
Thanks a bunch.
Thanks for watching. Hope this helped you out.
Turn filter or pump on?
is sand suppose to come out the sandpro filter when in back wash?
No is should stay out n the filter
What's the recirculate setting do ??
It circulates the water around in the pool
It bypasses the filter.
But what if the pool water is swampy? How am I suppose to know?
After I vacuum on backwash i put the setting back on filter..at that point i see alot of sand shooting into the pool? Do you know why this happens?
I'm not sure. After the backwash you should set it to rinse and then filter. Let me know if this helps
Hi, I did that and sand still shoots into the pool ? I took apart the filter and inspected everything and it looks ok still doing it ?
hi, i got the same filter u had. my pool so dirty how to clean it
Check out our other pool videos they should help you
So do I do this after I vacuum the pool???
***** Yes, That will help to clean the filter out
so every time you vacuum, you suppose to put it on backwash? I have the filter off when I vacuum. Am I doing it wrong?
It depends how dirty the bottom of the pool is. If it's not too bad you can use filter. Then back wash and rinse the sand. If it's really dirty you may want to vacuum on waste so that the algae and debris does not end up in the filter sand buy instead bypasses the filter and goes out. This video will explain the different filter settings. Thought it might help you out ruclips.net/video/zXQbpJqhbmU/видео.html
HomeOwnerRepair oh ok thank you
I tried to back wash to get everything out the pool but it looks like it not doing anything... Any suggestions?
Are you trying to clear a cloudy pool, or are you trying to clean out your sand filter?
i dont see the water moving in the glass container when im backwashing the filter
why is it that I just bought my sand filter and im trying to backwash it but when i turn off the system im opening up the drain hole to connect the pipe...water starts gushing out...not able to attach the holes. am i doing something wrong? my pool is dirty and trying to clean it....Im suppose to backwash, rinse and filter...when you first buy the sand filter right????
Mayra Acosta there should be a knob up near the pool that "locks" the water coming thru the tubes. I lock them and that seems to reduce all the water gushing out while I'm preparing to backwash. I don't know what kind of pool you have so I might have just confused you. also, yes, it's backwash, rinse, filter. make sure you shut the filter off when changing those settings.
Why is the water not shooting out of the hose when in backwash mode??
After the pool filter valve is placed in the backwash position, once you turn the filter on water should shoot out of the outlet.
+HomeOwnerRepair hence the problem...it is not shooting out, just slow flow 😕
+HomeOwnerRepair but it doesn't!!
Does this cause your pool to go low on water and have to top it off?
If you run it on backwash for a length of time yeah it will lower the water level in the pool
hi dude....can i take water out of the pool with this sand filter ?
mayan zamir You could probably back wash some of the water out. If you need to drain the entire pool you could use a garden hose and siphon it out, it may take a long time, but free if you have a garden hose.
mayan zamir Check this video out ruclips.net/video/yEMd0Aq2a_A/видео.html
I would l think it shouldn't take more then 30 seconds. Your water looks fine!
Thanks Karen, I take care of my pool. Love to swim, it's awesome exercise.
Thank you sir
And the rinse cycle resets the fingers after backwash.
Thanks for watching.
I put it on backwash and water is barely coming out. What do I do?
There has to be something messing up the hose or valve.
I'm new to owning a pool and the video was helpful, but he kept saying we have to shut off the filter but never showed us how??
Your actually working the switch to the pump that's the only way to turn the filter on or make it work. That's why you get used to saying,"turn the filter on or off". The pump runs the filter that's where everyone is getting confused.
When do I unplug it since I don't have a timer
+Jr Fields Usually I'll let it run for a few hours in the morning and a few hours at night
What do the other settings do?
This video should help you out ruclips.net/video/zXQbpJqhbmU/видео.html
very helping
i accidentally set the handle to Closed so the gauge went above the red level and now the handle won't even budge. I just turned off the pump and now i need help!
karim banhawy Can you press the handle down to relieve the pressure inside?
it's fine now. I figured it out. I just had to unscrew the air valve beneath the gauge as air was trapped inside the filter. the moment i did this, the indicator went down to green instantly. It's a very sneaky trap every pool owner should be aware of.
duleep jayman .like to do swimming pools back wosh
Whats the recirculate for ?
To by-pass the filter and recirculate to pool water
But doesnt the regular cycle do that ?
The filter setting goes through the sand, recirculate by-passes it
Greatly appreciate the video. I learned a lot because the douchebags that installed my pool threw away the manual.
Thank you so much!
So what is the Waste and Recirculate settings for?
This video will explain what all of this settings do. Hope this helps you out ruclips.net/video/zXQbpJqhbmU/видео.html
I have the same machine. My psi is about 40. Can anyone help me on what to do. Thank you
The sand needs to be changed every 3-5 years so your sand may be muddy with debris causing the high psi.
Thank you!
Thanks
