Instead of a constant humming noise it sounds like a humming then a break,if that makes any sense..lol Also the needle is in the green but it jumps a little,still in green area but goes up & down? I had a friend hook up the system, I am alone so I don't have any help,maybe you can tell me what to do about this situation. Thank you!

We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

any chance you can make a video about how you vacuum with your current setup? I had the same exact setup I'm having issues with using a vacuum plate in the skimmer and too much power being drawn from the sand filter. the best thing I found online was to drill holes in the vacuum plate I've done that and it just killed the suction power of the vacuum.

When i put it on Filter, the flow pressure back into the pool reduces to about half of the 'Neutral' setting. Then after 10 minutes, it reduces further to a trickle of about a 1/4 of the N setting. Too slow to filter the pool and so the Algae is beginning to build. Tomorrow I will check all connections for any partial blockages, but am wondering if I also need to do replace or do anything to the sand or sand container? The pump and sand were new last year and stored dry in October with lid open for 9 months in my garage til this June. I used a leaf-blower to extract out the top dust, (dried bugs, leaf particles etc,) and I didn't shake or disturb the sand in the white barrel. I just carried it to the pool and attached the connections. Did I do anything incorrectly? When would you replace the sand or mix it about? Sorr for so many questions, but I do appreciate any and all positive responses 🙂
Guiding Bolt - first year using this pump. I drained the pool and am now taking everything apart. I didn’t realize I needed to backwash and rinse prior to draining. Is there any way to clean it out now?

Thank you for the info! My neighbor gave me his pool and pump and I’m trying to figure it out. When I turn on filtration there doesn’t seem to be suction, does it take a certain amount of time for pressure to build? I don’t want to burn the motor experimenting!
As long as there isn't air in the system already ,it should start up right away with good suction. Assuming you have the same or similar setup as mine. I would make sure you have enough water in the pool to fill the stock skimmer basket before the Intex filter sucks it out. If you aren't getting enough water in the tank attached to the pool the Intex will throttle back when air gets in the system. Then the skimmer tank will fill again, but now there is air in the collection basket that has to be released before it starts full output again.

I was almost certain I understood these settings and you helped me confirm before I vacuumed my first time junk settled on the bottom (foggy stuff. The filter works great however the stuff I am trying to get rid of seems to constantly recirculate because it is to fine for the filter and for the Dolphin robot. Also I had no idea about the rinsing. THANK YOU!!!

I was struggling,had my hoses run wrong, wouldn't backwash of course no pressure from gauge , which I knew it needed, but with my intake hose installed wrong after watching your clip I got hoses correct, pool looks clear as well, water.thanks again for your time and effort to upload this, I know it took time.
The N is neutral, and it is used for long term storage/winterization. It keeps the lines open so the water can flow freely. So if you live in a climate where it freezes it will let the water move and help prevent damaging the filter.
@@johndoe3981 It's not meant to be operated in neutral. I'm not sure what would happen if you did. That being said I've seen at least one person comment that theirs only ran in the neutral setting.

It's the neutral setting, for long term storage/winter storage. Allows the water to flow freely through the system so it can drain or freeze and expand.
How does the FP setting work when dissolving salt? What setting would allow debris to go into your Leaf basket but not generate chlorine. basically just to keep pool free from fine debri. Your video is one of the most intuitive ones that I've watched. Thank you.
Hey Carolyn - Sorry I don't have a salt system. However, for the debris question basically any setting that is running water through the pump is going to be collecting debris in the collection basket. You'll mainly be using recirculate and filter which will both collect waste there. For the chlorine you really should use a float. Even though people sometimes place it in the collection basket it's not recommended as the chlorine levels build up and aren't good for the motor. Hope this helps!

TY so much for this video. We got one of these filters for a great deal used and I was worried because it wasn't flowing very well. Now, after 4 backwash and rinse cycles with the drain part open it flows really well and the brown water is gone !!!!! Ty so much.

never mind sorry! i found a reason for it. filling my pool up but i may not be around at the moment the water reaches the intake. i want to cleanse the sludge from the sand so i’ll put it on recirculate till it reaches enough depth to be able to turn on the backwash. this way i don’t get all that sludge from the sand into the pool. Hey Molly - I just check the sand level each year after I pull it out of storage, and the sand is good for 3-5 years. I haven't looked into a pool heater yet. Currently I use one of those bubble pads that sit over the top of the pool. We live in Wisconsin and go swimming in Lake Superior a lot as well, so we're used to cold water. ;)

This was really helpful.. I just bought a second hand pump to upgrade my original pump but the settings have worn off. Any tips on determining which is which? I am going to try it using your picture here.
Ooh that's tricky.. You should be able to pick out the waste/backwash/rinse because they will all use the drain port. Then you can try and narrow those down from there. Backwash will produce dirty water/debris if it hasn't been cleaned in a bit, and you should see sand in the sight glass. Rinse will shoot the water out but it shouldn't gather in the sight glass. Waste just drop some grass right in front of the inlet and see if it shoots out the other side. It will have to be small enough to not get caught in the collection basket. Hopefully if you get those identified plus the picture in the video you can figure out the rest. Good luck!
Great video, very informative. But one question when is the best time to run the filter is it before or after or while swimming? And for how long? My swimming pool size is 5.49 meters And how ofter i need to do backwash?
I usually run it for 4 hours a day, if you have the same model there is a turn dial setting you can adjust. Normally I kick it off in the AM, or in the evening (if I shock it). Backwash until the water looks clean, usually takes less than 30 seconds, and remember to rinse afterwards.

This was so helpful!! But I still have a question, so that clear thingy that’s next to the meter, what do I do if there’s sand in there? I backwashed my new pool & filter & I let it go for about 10 minutes & there’s sand in there now & I don’t know if that’s a bad thing?
Filter --> For normal filtration and regular vacumming of the pool Waste or drain --> For vacuuming directly to waste, lowering pool water level or to drain the pool Closed --> Prevents all flow of water from entering the filter media and pool Backwash --> Reverses water flow to clean the filter media Recirculate --> For circulating water back to the pool without going through the filter media Rinse --> For intial startup cleaning of the sand and leveling the sand bed after backwashing
Thank you, very informative. I have a saltwater system attached to my sand filter pump and find that after an hour the flow drops so that the salt water turns off. I then run on N, open the valve and it works. It seems I have a build up of air each time but cannot locate the source. Any thoughts welcome.
I did the same. I also removed the skimmer and the flow reducer on one side and whaddyaknow....it ran all night with no problem, saltwater system still on boost. It's been the skimmer slowing the flow this whole time. Not sure how I'll ever get the vacuum to work.
I was wondering what timer number mode is set on your pump .. I'm not too sure but it looks like you might have the same type of pool pump that I have on mine .. And in the back of the pool pump next to the extension cord there's a knob with numbers... What number is your set on ?? thank you and have a good day good night.
I always vacuumed on the recirculate or filter setting. Waste is designed to pump water/debris out of the pool and out the waste port so you would lose water very quickly using that setting.
You can use the recirculate option to keep water moving without filtering it, for faster movement. This might be desired when using such a chlorine floater, or during chemical adjustment or a shock treatment. It's also an option to disperse a flocculent treatment to settle cloudy water's contaminants prior to vacuuming it.

How often do you run chlorine tablets in the basket on recirculate? And how many? Also, how often do you keep it on filter? Thank you for the help!
I filter mine for about 4 hours a day. I would actually suggest picking up a floater for chlorine treatment as that keeps high concentrations of it out of the pool filter itself. Plus, they have some pretty fun ones these days (link below). They usually take from 1-3 tablets. I just remove it when the kids are in the pool. amzn.to/3a9WS2R
Great video! This may be a silly question, but I am not sure so I'll ask. Do you rinse it while the cap is still off after backwashing? Or put the cap back on? I am struggling with our pool being green and today I noticed that after backwashing and rinsing, whwn switched to filter" very obvious green was shooting back into the pool. I am so discouraged by this whole pool process I just want to take it down and be done. My kids would be devastated though so I'm trying to figure this out. Thank you!
We recently bought this pump and can't figure it out. The manual doesn't answer the questions. What setting should the pump be in the clean the water? Filter? If so, it works on filter for a little bit, the flow is not strong then shuts off. What are we doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Have a few questions. I have almost no suction and very little output. I’ve followed the backwash and rinse process several times with no success. It has been very difficult to keep pool clean. Hey Karen, are you covering the hole on the side of the pool where the water flows into the tank? The Summer Waves should have come with a black seal plate that fits over it to keep the water from continuing to pour out. However, you will have some water flow out when you change the collection basket regardless.
How long have you had the filter? It's recommended to swap out the sand every 3-5 years. I would pop the top off the tank and inspect it to make sure everything looks good. If you didn't give it a good backwash/rinse when you stored it I would suggest doing that first to clean up the inside. Then you should be all set to start filtering.
I have one more issue, the pump doesn't have pressure when the water return to the pool. I order new sand bag just in case that it is the issue. Do you know what can be the problem? Thanks!
You'll find that most of the time you're running it on filter. I usually use recirculate in the evening after I've shocked the pool (once per week typically). It's typically good for 3-5 years, but you should check it yearly to make sure there isn't buildup on the top and clean it out if needed.

The collection basket will fill with water, but it shouldn't look swollen or anything. What kind of pressure readout are you seeing on the tank?
Guiding Bolt mine is the same. Low pressure on the gauge and the basket is filled with water. Can someone please help!?!

I was struggling,had my hoses run wrong, wouldn't backwash of course no pressure from gauge , which I knew it needed, but with my intake hose installed wrong after watching your clip I got hoses correct, pool looks clear as well, water.thanks again for your time and effort to upload this, I know it took time.
What does the "N" mean?
The N is neutral, and it is used for long term storage/winterization. It keeps the lines open so the water can flow freely. So if you live in a climate where it freezes it will let the water move and help prevent damaging the filter.

@@johndoe3981 It's not meant to be operated in neutral. I'm not sure what would happen if you did. That being said I've seen at least one person comment that theirs only ran in the neutral setting.

What does the N setting mean?
It's the neutral setting, for long term storage/winter storage. Allows the water to flow freely through the system so it can drain or freeze and expand.
How does the FP setting work when dissolving salt? What setting would allow debris to go into your Leaf basket but not generate chlorine. basically just to keep pool free from fine debri. Your video is one of the most intuitive ones that I've watched. Thank you.
Hey Carolyn - Sorry I don't have a salt system. However, for the debris question basically any setting that is running water through the pump is going to be collecting debris in the collection basket. You'll mainly be using recirculate and filter which will both collect waste there. For the chlorine you really should use a float. Even though people sometimes place it in the collection basket it's not recommended as the chlorine levels build up and aren't good for the motor. Hope this helps!

TY so much for this video. We got one of these filters for a great deal used and I was worried because it wasn't flowing very well. Now, after 4 backwash and rinse cycles with the drain part open it flows really well and the brown water is gone !!!!! Ty so much.

never mind sorry! i found a reason for it. filling my pool up but i may not be around at the moment the water reaches the intake. i want to cleanse the sludge from the sand so i’ll put it on recirculate till it reaches enough depth to be able to turn on the backwash. this way i don’t get all that sludge from the sand into the pool. Hey Molly - I just check the sand level each year after I pull it out of storage, and the sand is good for 3-5 years. I haven't looked into a pool heater yet. Currently I use one of those bubble pads that sit over the top of the pool. We live in Wisconsin and go swimming in Lake Superior a lot as well, so we're used to cold water. ;)

This was really helpful.. I just bought a second hand pump to upgrade my original pump but the settings have worn off. Any tips on determining which is which? I am going to try it using your picture here.
Ooh that's tricky.. You should be able to pick out the waste/backwash/rinse because they will all use the drain port. Then you can try and narrow those down from there. Backwash will produce dirty water/debris if it hasn't been cleaned in a bit, and you should see sand in the sight glass. Rinse will shoot the water out but it shouldn't gather in the sight glass. Waste just drop some grass right in front of the inlet and see if it shoots out the other side. It will have to be small enough to not get caught in the collection basket. Hopefully if you get those identified plus the picture in the video you can figure out the rest. Good luck!
Great video, very informative. But one question when is the best time to run the filter is it before or after or while swimming? And for how long?

I usually run it for 4 hours a day, if you have the same model there is a turn dial setting you can adjust. Normally I kick it off in the AM, or in the evening (if I shock it). Backwash until the water looks clean, usually takes less than 30 seconds, and remember to rinse afterwards.

Do the rinse function after the backwash. That should clear it out.
Filter --> For normal filtration and regular vacumming of the pool
Waste or drain --> For vacuuming directly to waste, lowering pool water level or to drain the pool
Closed --> Prevents all flow of water from entering the filter media and pool
Backwash --> Reverses water flow to clean the filter media
Recirculate --> For circulating water back to the pool without going through the filter media
Rinse --> For intial startup cleaning of the sand and leveling the sand bed after backwashing
Thank you, very informative. I have a saltwater system attached to my sand filter pump and find that after an hour the flow drops so that the salt water turns off. I then run on N, open the valve and it works. It seems I have a build up of air each time but cannot locate the source. Any thoughts welcome.

I did a long back wash and then a 1.5 minute rinse and it appears to be working better for now at least..
I did the same. I also removed the skimmer and the flow reducer on one side and whaddyaknow....it ran all night with no problem, saltwater system still on boost. It's been the skimmer slowing the flow this whole time. Not sure how I'll ever get the vacuum to work.

I always vacuumed on the recirculate or filter setting. Waste is designed to pump water/debris out of the pool and out the waste port so you would lose water very quickly using that setting.

This is my question as well.
You can use the recirculate option to keep water moving without filtering it, for faster movement. This might be desired when using such a chlorine floater, or during chemical adjustment or a shock treatment. It's also an option to disperse a flocculent treatment to settle cloudy water's contaminants prior to vacuuming it.

How often do you run chlorine tablets in the basket on recirculate? And how many? Also, how often do you keep it on filter? Thank you for the help!
I filter mine for about 4 hours a day. I would actually suggest picking up a floater for chlorine treatment as that keeps high concentrations of it out of the pool filter itself. Plus, they have some pretty fun ones these days (link below). They usually take from 1-3 tablets. I just remove it when the kids are in the pool.

Great video! This may be a silly question, but I am not sure so I'll ask. Do you rinse it while the cap is still off after backwashing? Or put the cap back on? I am struggling with our pool being green and today I noticed that after backwashing and rinsing, whwn switched to filter" very obvious green was shooting back into the pool. Yes, both the backwash and rinse should be done with waste port open.
We recently bought this pump and can't figure it out. The manual doesn't answer the questions. What setting should the pump be in the clean the water? Filter? If so, it works on filter for a little bit, the flow is not strong then shuts off. What are we doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Have a few questions. I have almost no suction and very little output. I’ve followed the backwash and rinse process several times with no success. It has been very difficult to keep pool clean. Hey Karen, are you covering the hole on the side of the pool where the water flows into the tank? The Summer Waves should have come with a black seal plate that fits over it to keep the water from continuing to pour out. However, you will have some water flow out when you change the collection basket regardless.
How will we know when we need to change the sand? How often do you change the sand in your unit?
Between 3-5 years is when it's typically recommended to change the sand so you should be set for a while.
how much sand did you put in this one. This looks like the big one I have. One 50 lb was not enough. wondering if I need one or two more bags.

How long have you had the filter? It's recommended to swap out the sand every 3-5 years. I would pop the top off the tank and inspect it to make sure everything looks good. If you didn't give it a good backwash/rinse when you stored it I would suggest doing that first to clean up the inside. Then you should be all set to start filtering.

Very helpful first year for a sand pump do i always keep it on filter
You'll find that most of the time you're running it on filter. I usually use recirculate in the evening after I've shocked the pool (once per week typically). I was told that Recirculate is rarely used, but works when you won't be around the filter to backwash, but want to maintain good circulation.
