    Thank you so much. I had the exact same problem with the hub cap crack. The laterals were perfect and I would have assumed that all was well had I not watched your video. I pushed it in just like yours it was loose and broke off. I wonder how many people clean their laterals off and reinstall it only to find the same issue with poor filtering and nice new sand in the pool. I haven't seen any other videos or comments on this failure. Seems like a design flaw...

    Very important to fill the filter with water about half way before adding any sand.

    never did you show me pouring the sand into this thing, how does one put the black octo foot back inside, hit the little center tube and then get sand inside? Sand has to go in after the octo foot?

    My brand new sand filter's vavle handle is very hard to turn after I vacuumed my pool for the first time, it was working fine before that. I did manage very difficultly to move it to backwash then rinse but that didn't fix it. After running my filter overnite I wake up to it in sleep mode because of low water pressure. What do you think is going on and how do I fix it?

    • @DIYeasycrafts

      Sorry to hear that. I am no expert. Just figured out how to fix my problem. My guess is maybe a bad o ring in the valve handle. They are pretty easy to take apart and it would be visually obvious if o ring is bad. Goof luck

    i have the Hayward in ground sand filter. Great video by the way. My problem isn't the laterals but the center pvc pipe that you dont want sand to go in. However after sucking all the sand out I came to find the pipe broken off the lateral assembly. Can I replace the pipe with the same length pvc? My other problem is where the pipe broke there is still a small piece inside the assembly. May be glued in,any way of removing it to place in a new one?

    My return would lose flow every half hour...it's a brand new hayward pump with a hayward 100 lbs sand filter... I changed the sand and bought a new lateral for it... after days of frustration I took the top off the filter and it was filled to the top with water.... I'm draining it now and will replace sand... I don't know what to do next if this continues!!!

    I have a question - I had taken the top off my Hayward sand filter last week simply to replace the sand (pool has been OPEN for a month, opened by our pool guy), and there was no water inside, just sand. I was told this was an issue. That there should be water inside while running, otherwise the filter is broken. Any tips on this??

    hello. my pool turned into brown color after adding chlorine and muriatic , were using well water, before we managed to turned brown into yellow to green then clear blue but now after continious filtering we notice the filtering process is very slow. we backwash and rinse ofteen to remove the brown color on the sight glass of the filter , but still the water that coming out from the returns is not that clear, it seems the brown water is just circulating going back on the pool. what could be the cause of this, does the elements on my sand filter has a damage or crack from my laterals? no matter how i backwash and rinse the water coming out isnt clear. we just replaced our sand just lastyear.

    Great video, thanks. I did just this procedure to my sand filter last year. One thing I found, though, was that the idiots that owned the property prior to us had apparently repaired the filter, and they GLUED the valve assembly onto the lateral assembly down tube! YES, they were that stupid. So when replaced the sand last year, I had to cut the valve assembly off the downtube, and then had to buy both...the lateral assembly AND a Hayward valve assembly. I was soooo pissed....they were IDIOTS.

      I could not figure out why the spider wasn't coming out, and realized, once I saw the sloppy glue job, that it was glued. SO I had to use a hacksaw and destroyed a good valve assy and spider tube. I have no idea why they did it that way. Cost me $120 for both assemblies, not including sand.

    • @rickjames4882
      @rickjames4882 7 лет назад +1

      They did it that way to save the $120 and then sell it which seems like it worked.

    Thanks for making this video! I need your advice/help please. I have the Hayward 310s and I have a very small crack on the sand filter that is spraying out water. I have tried putting water-weld putty on the inside of the sand filter where the crack is and on the outside also. I let that sit for 10 hrs and then turn the filter back on but it still leaks, I also tried apoxy but having no luck. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

      Usually if the actual canister is cracked it will need to be replaced. Most repairs just will not hold up under pressure. You could try to empty the canister, clean and dry it out. then use marine grade 5200. available at any boating store. It goes on like silicone. I would press some rubber into the 5200. Maybe cut a pc out of a tire tube. Give it a full 24 hrs to dry. Should hold up pretty good.

    I think I'm missing something. You show you putting a tennis ball on this tube. You even say to tape it. Then you show you putting the piece back on it without the tennis ball. There is no taped ball on it. I don't see the point. I don't get it. Why even bother?

      you don't want to allow any sand to fall in to the pipe when refilling the filter.

    • @epicdad0197
      @epicdad0197 6 лет назад

      I just put a plastic cup over the tube. You can then pour sand in. A little at a time to ensure tube stays in center

    • @bradsnapp8437
      @bradsnapp8437 5 лет назад

      I think he was saying to put some sand in to begin with but don't put it all in until you are sure the lateral pipe will line up with your valve. If you put all of the sand in and then line up the valve you will not have any play. Once you know it lines up you can put the rest of the sand in.

    Let me guess....Trump supporter? Wow dude , settle down. While a home inspection wouldn't disassemble the pool filter it, a proper inspection would show the filter needed maintenance, at which point they would have found the glued parts. You know more than me about some things and I know more than you about some things and other people know more than both of us about some things. Just because the previous owners glued the pieces together doesn't make them "COMPLETE IDIOTS"....
