    Thanks for the thorough and clear explanation. I wish all "how-to" videos would do as good a job with sharing information as you did here! Now I know what I need to do and what to be prepared for.

    Great vudeo ..if worried about the upright staying in place what I did is add a little sand water and then add some more sand. And I open the bags of sand and use 4 cup measuring cup to fill it up slowly but surely. That way I can keep my hand on the upright and make sure it stayed and by the time I got one bag in with some water in it that thing was locked in the place no problems. Hope this helps someone especially if you're limited mobility and don't have the strength.

    I haven't seen a single video in which filter blades are changed.

    I have a question, when I vaccuum my pool, the dirt specs I pick up from the bottom of the pool start coming back out from the return lines. Sand has already been changed... could it be bad laterals? Before I would vacuum the pool and the filter would stop vacuuming once it was full so I'd backwash and repeat. Thank you for your time.

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  2 года назад +5

      Could be bad laterals or a bad multiport gasket which is letting some of which your vacuuming up pass the filter altogether and flowing back to the return lines through the recirculate port on your multiport vavle. Really tough to say for sure but taking the screws out of the top of the multiport valve and checking that gasket is easier than pulling out all of your sand first.

    My tube is stuck inside the top mount and won’t come out, what do I do then?

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  8 дней назад

      There is a oring in the top mount that seals the tube tight, if that swelled I have seen them seized in there a couple times. All I did is worked it by small wiggles and back and forth movements. I have gotten a couple loose this way and 1 other I broke and had to replace the whole stem. Sorry to hear your situation and hopefully another viewer sees this and has a similar situation and cure. Just haven't ran enough of them to know a quick solution.

    I have Purex sand filter side mount the laterals have a screened side on the bottom side not on top should all the screen side be facing the bottom of tank because that’s the way they were when I empty the sand.

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  2 года назад +4

      I would try to get them in all facing the same direction but if you cant the filter should still work

      @@Poolelementary ok hey I have a lil green dust on the floor of my pool should I try to vac it

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  2 года назад +3

      Yes you should be good to vac and your sand filter should filter it out.

    I've closed my pool for the winter, and I've drained the pool to just below the skimmer, so I have no water running through the pool at this time. Should I wait until I open the pool in April to change out the sand, since you recommended to backwash the filter after the change out?
    Thanks
    Paul

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  8 месяцев назад +2

      You can change the sand while the pool is winterized just put a note on the multiport to remind you to backwash when you open everything up in the spring meaning start your pump in the backwash setting

    I was replacing the sand in the filter, tried to put the valve back on the lateral to make sure it was lined up and when I went to take it off, it pulled the lateral back up overtop of the sand. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I tried scooping the sand back around so the lateral assembly could sit flush with the filter, but it went go back down. Any suggestions? Do I have to dump all this back out to get the lateral back flat?

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  2 дня назад

      Yes you will probably have to take the sand back out to get it properly in position again.

    Somehow, i can't close the lid to the pipe, i have like half a inch that is open. Is there any trick for that or should i remove all the sand and restart

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure what you can do besides remove the sand if for some reason the pipe floated up a half inch. I would definitely make sure everythings good on the multiport valve where it slips over the pipe first before pulling the sand out.

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Год назад +1

      Sometimes also I put some type of lubricant on the pipe where slips in to help the fight of getting it completely in there.

    Glass is a much better filter media that is non carcinogenic, needs to be replaced once a decade, and it filters down to 5 microns instead of 20-30

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  3 года назад +7

      Thanks for the feed back and giving the viewers a better option for filter media. In the video I'm using a filter media sand which is made of Quartz which is a bit safer than the traditional filter sand. So if you are using regular filter sand definitely wear some kind of mask or respirator while working with it because J matthews is 100% correct, it is very bad stuff to be breathing or ingesting! Thanks again J matthews and i haven't used much of the glass filter media myself but am gonna put it in my arsenal because I keep hearing such good things about it!

      I have a DE filter, but if I had a sand filter there is no way I would use sand. Glass is infinately much better, and am shocked that not everyone uses it.
