      The recommended filter sand to use is # 20 silica. Using this grade of pool filter sand is standard in the industry. Some of the much larger filters (500 lbs and over) use pea gravel over the laterals at the bottom and then the rest is sand. You can do either all sand or pea gravel at the bottom with sand and you will be fine. Thanks for watching.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies

      Depending upon what filer you have will determine how to remove and inspect the laterals. Hayward filters typically have the umbrella assembly which allow you to fold up the laterals to remove from filter. Pentair filters usually have a twist lock or treaded lateral connected to the hub assembly. Once you remove the laterals inspect them thoroughly for any breakage. If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call. We are closed Labor Day weekend.

  • @tonimarley6889
    @tonimarley6889 2 года назад

    Hi Mark, Do you have any video's that talk about low pressure? We turn our pump on and it shoots out like a canon at 1st and then it after a couple of minutes it slows way down and the alarm on our salt filter goes off and says low pressure and it turns off. If we turn the pump off and then back on again it repeats the same cycle.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  2 года назад

      First put your system on recirculate. If the pressure is running well, then you may just need to backwash the filter. If this doesn’t help, you may need to change sand. If you put the system in recirculate and the problem continues, you may have a clog or a suction leak. If you want to talk in further detail, give me a call.

    We have been told to put pea gravel in first. Then sand. What are your thoughts on this? Any advantage or disadvantage?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  2 года назад +1

      Pea gravel can be used to cover the laterals and rest would be filter sand. This is very common on commercial tanks. The pea gravel helps keep the laterals from getting clogged, however too much gravel can affect filtration. On an above ground filter it's not really needed, but it does not hurt anything if you did it.

  • @louisd95714
    @louisd95714 2 года назад

    I have a DE filter, and based on what I read, it is said maintaining a DE filter requires more work than a sand or cartdridge filter. But I sort of disagree. DE has to be added to the pump whenever it's backwashed, and, of course, oened up every now and then for a thouragh cleaning, especially at the end of the pool season. But in my opinion it still is less work than having to change the sand in sand filters every few years. That appears to be a time consuming task. And with cartdridge based filters, the cartdridge still has to be rinsed off every few weeks or so. Am I wrong about this, or am I just used to o doing harder work?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  2 года назад

      Doing a thorough cleaning on a DE filter is about the same as a sand change. How often depends on types of chemicals used, how well the pool is maintained and environment. Sand filters overall are move commonly used for residential and commercial pools.

      You must push the multiport down tight to the tank. Then the band will go on. You need to tap the band, as I described in the video. If you have any questions, give me a call.
