My dad did debt collection in the early 70s in America. He could find anyone in the country without the internet or cellphones. He says that today it’s way easier than ever.
its completely different in America people have guns
The next issue is that these days people are less socially connected and disconnecting from the internet can very well be enough.
Plus theres more people now, with hella lot of places to hide.
@@yakamarezlife😂 guns were a thing in the 70s too champ

I owe 7 trillion dollars, but nobody can find me. LOL LOL LOL
Am I the only one who finds a gentle rap and “Can you come to the door please sir?” through the post slot, more intimidating than yelling and cursing? 😂
Well-mannered, clear demands in a yelling conversation is like the calm before a storm.
It's calm, but you very well know sh*ts about to hit the fan.
And when she said, "we're here to help"! Riiiiiiiiiight😂
That's because you seem to have a strong moral compass. I agree with you. If someone is cursing at me and yelling, I find it MUCH easier to ignore them since they clearly have not shown me any courtesy.

Oh man this narrator is awesome. He's a fairly famous actor in Britain- Paul something but I can't remember. I love it.
The dog on the stairs is so cute! He’s like… ‘I’m not moving, you can’t take me!’ 😂
i hope they don't repossess dogs... luckily for most dogs that have very little monitory value.
@@you2uber530here in Austria (Europe) they can even take your animals if they are of a good breed and worth money. That's hard
Why aren't asking him for the money. "Can you pay this, sir?", "Wuf, wuf!"
Respect to the one guy who said let me call my lawyer, talked to him, and called right back and paid. I mean it should never get this far anyway, but still that is rare.
These people are way too nice. It’s like trying to rationalize with drunks or small children… boot the damn car and take it away.
Yeah, but that's additional burden for them to auction the goods. It's way better and cost efficient for them to collect money in cash or bank transfer.

I remember those days with 240p xD
To be fair, they did not tell him the price would go up over 50 percent once a tow truck was on the way.
Yeah, that was crazy. The truck wasn't even there.
@lukjad007 but it was dispatched. If it hadn't left the lot, then yeah it wouldn't make sense but since the tow truck left and was already on route to the house, that is money clocking by the km, as well as the service itself.

Why should they? You want to play games then you win the prizes... It's stupid

I am amazed that all these people who owe money drive these high cost cars but won’t pay bills.
But it worked 😊
Typical greedy living above their means type of people. We see a lot of them on here while usually i imagine its mostly people who cannot pay the bills the ones showcased here are greedy and perfect for tv lol
You could afford to drive a Mercedes too, if you didn't pay for rent, or debt bills!
Rather pitiful. They all want to keep their Porsche or Mercedes or BMW, but they don't want to pay their debts.
Imagine the death rate if this was a thing in the U.S 😂
Full body armor, SWAT Team of 10, tow truck drivers, staff to clear the house, a lawyer present, Red Cross staff, and of course every community group in protest per site.
F-uk for all its nonsense the whole royal family should get a rit for all the gems they have stolen from all the countries of the world
They will equip like bounty hunter if we have them in the US.
Just to prevent that, we have NAV Merkur kommando for this. Look it up. Its real.
People here in the US can file bankruptcy.
The burring your head in the sand is so true. I did it for 10 years I didn’t answer unknown numbers didn’t open unrecognized mail hell I didn’t answer my door unless someone had called first. After awhile everything fell off my credit and it took me another 10 years to build my credit back up to be able to purchase a house. Now the only bill I don’t completely wipe out at the end of the month is my mortgage which I always pay an extra 10% to wipe out early.
I love it when they repo cars, like ripping out someone's heart. 🤣Business shell game, debts in one person's name, and business in another.
Shut it Down, a restaurant without a stove, a bar without a refrigerator. Neither a borrower nor a lender be.
Wait and play games, the tow truck gets paid whether they tow or not. This stuff goes on for a year or more before someone has to pay for it to go through the high court, and then to have bailiffs go out to deal with it. There is an office to handle paperwork and make sure it’s all done legally, movers and storage and it all costs money! If you put it off, it costs you more. Facts.
Funny as hell. When they lifted the car up he paid up.
So the municipality doesn’t renew his license to keep a tenant, but they don’t let him evict the tenant either or stop sending him the money. Then they then they fine him 10,000& for having an illegal tenant… got it. Britain sucks! The remedy should be not sending him money if he doesn’t have a landlord license. If it is his fault a few hundred quid fine are most.
I don't understand why they need a landlord license in the first place. Maybe it just because I am use to USA.
Exactly. This is soft tyranny here. Authorities bullying a man for no actual reason. There is no victim besides their own political ego. SO stupid. Pisses me off to see regular folks bullied like this. Its so wrong. So VERY wrong.
@@james64468 they also need a TV license to watch TV… the BBC issues licenses for it. They even go door to door to harass those without licenses
The main problem is that the people who owe money think they can argue their case with the collectors. They are not the judges. It’s past that point and the case is decided. If they disagree, they have to go back to court.
Mr. PubMan at 9:50 Me...when he got in the car, I would have been seriously tempted to stick my thumbs in my armpits and flap my arms while doing a silly little dance, in honor of silly-chickens running away, buuut this is likely a sign that I might not be the best at that job! :D But...well, being an obnoxious bully-boy and THEN turning tail and fleeing, he IS being a coward, so there it is. Good for them that they maybe take the higher road. I'll have to watch the rest of this episode and see. ^_^
It’s easier to find some people but depending on the area harder to catch them, my son (a minor13) was mowing someone’s yard and a guy with a badge serviced him. The person was on vacation. I called to tell the person and the collector he’s 13 and was only there to mow yard. The man actually said if my son didn’t pay he was going to jail. He was so scared, and I was beyond mad. These officers did it correctly not threatening a 13yr old just mowing grass for pocket money.
Don’t want to pay £4K but drives a Mercedes 🤦♀️
Because he didn't dare get a license to do what he wants with his own property? Screw that and screw the court telling you what they do and do not permit you to do with what's yours.

Come to Oregon we have lots of rain it’s raining right now
8:48 Just noticed the pub owner’s car has different colored plates on front & back. Is that usual? I know Europe has much better plate recognition software than here in USA - a means to avoid detection?
Our laws are different in the US, and they prevent people just taking your stuff. Also we don't have "councils" that own all the properties and then rent them out. They couldn't even enter our properties here. Plus they take whatever stuff including cars unless the proper owner can prove it's theirs without getting into the car. That equals a felony here in the US, which allows you to defend yourself from the felony. Even auto repo must prove the car is the right one including the dash VIN, or they get arrested and will be fired.
Also jacking the amount 50% higher "because a tow truck is on the way" would be illegal here. Tow fees are set by law by each state at a normal amount, usually about $100-$150. Stealing a n auto worth $30k for a 2k debt and then you jack it up cause the tow truck is on the way.. highway robbery by thug companies given permission by what I'm told is a corrupt law system.
Their tactics are absolutely Dickensian.
30:00 he says he was paid rent for a long time, even though he didn't have the license to rent out.
Its really quite simple, you could have declined and returned the money, but you took it. That means you're guilty.

yeah, in the US we have debt but they dont come and grab things out of peoples houses and businesses because it would be a bad day here.

The woman bailiff handled her case correctly she gave practical options like payment plan doable by the old gentleman but how come the BMW bailiff didn’t do that? Perhaps the man didn’t have the $2k+ money on hand to pay 😮

The fees are outrageous. A loan shark would be cheaper.
I don't understand these people. When my husband and myself separated I sold my jewelry to keep food on the table and bills current. It's hard and I cried a lot but you have to pay your debt.
I've learned over the years, it's good for the soul to have a big cry. Several if needed.
Try and stop me getting into that car.
Then say hello to the police.
The thing I find cold about things like this is like that one guy said. "I am entitled to seek legal advice on a matter I have no knowledge of."
As a young man who knows nothing, I understand, verily. But the first thing about law is that "Ignorance to the law excuses no one".
The thing that bothers me though, is that this is making them sign a payment plan (A contract) under duress, is that part of things being legal, if laws are based on ethics and morals, isn't it against the morals of contract law (because usually, contracts are either unenforceable or voidable when one of the parties are forced to sign under duress.)
You're forgetting that there was a years-long legal battle, that led these people to the point they are today. They aren't being blindsided. Whether through defiance or inaction, they were directly responsible for the situation getting to the point it is at today. They may, in fact, be innocent... But they had numerous opportunities to argue that and they didn't.
@TheEvox81 Yeah I don't doubt that, been there done that, askin for years and when I turn up suddenly I'm the villain.
But what I wonder is if supercedes duress, because in my country, stressing out the person signing the contract is grounds for invalidation. Like if the groom asks the bride to sign a prenup on the wedding, even if it was discussed in advance because social/emotional pressures are coercion/duress.
Here in the US if you sign and put under duress with it.. it's ruled invalid.
I appreciate the difficulties of the agents doing their jobs, but I don't agree with them looking thru the postal slot into the house. That's an invasion of privacy. You should not have to have peeping toms looking thru your door.
How can it go from £2000 to £5000 if a car is towed? I could see an administrative fee and a tow fee and a storage fee for maybe &500 at most? Since when is it £1500+ for a tow truck? That’s criminal
"Public services"
1700poubds for a tow is kinda steep. Prolly be a 400 maybe 500 or 60o dollars in an expensive US city.
That’s robbery it’s usually 250 in the states
It’s not just that. Secure storage etc etc etc. it’s not going to a local yard. All the paperwork for the possession of goods inventory and on and on.
These are repeats!
I would watch this but you spend time explaining the same thing over and over
That’s what the fast forward button is for.
they all wait and incur extra charges,,stuoid
Are these guys a private bailiff company or do they work for the UK Gov't? Thanks
Private contractor company, they are not part of the actual UK Govt. It's on the notices they post in the upper right corner.
Imagine if Dickens was still alive. This show would give him enough material for 3 or 4 more novels. 😮
Not really. These people order goods or services and then don't want to pay for them. They often have expensive cars, live in nice houses. They usually have what they owe in their account. They're just trying to get away with something. Imagine if you had a small business and people tried to get away with not paying. Hardly Dickensian poverty.

The man didn’t fill out his paperwork, lost his license and kept accepting the money for the rental for his buddy to live there. Wouldn’t pay a solicitor. So much easier just to bitch and protest.
Dislike Britain where neighbourhoods have all the garbage cans lined up in front of the houses. Yuck!
These row-townhouse neighbourhoods are hundreds of years old and have no side spaces in between.
The bins are put on the sidewalks on collection day and pulled back behind a front wall if possible.

A tow truck does not cost over a thousand dollars. Whatever justification you try that is robbery
What is a middle aged American woman doing in this decidedly British show? That upper midwest accent should be in an episode of Fargo!😄
The debtor alone needs to be bullied into paying. No one else. I otherwise like the idea of bailiffs to collect debts..
If the debt climbs by £1,700 just for a tow truck? Is Britain really that expensive or are these agents just becoming goons? I can understand if the tow truck fees are around £200 then that person may have paid it.
Exactly.
lmao if that person didnt ignore the debt until collection bailiffs had to be utilized, tow fee is a non issue
That $200 climbed after year, after year of ignoring that bill, same as not paying your cc bill that amount climbs
No, it’s towing, storage and auction fees. If you have. A general court order with court fees, then have to pay to have it taken into the High Court, and then you have to pay the office to verify addresses and do car ownership and whether there is any money owed (lien) and the bailiffs to travel however many times it takes to enforce the warrant. They take deposits with payment plans also….They aren’t goons. They are a lifeline for people who have had favourable decisions made by the courts, or everyone would just ignore the decisions of the courts.
@@candacecurtis5739 I’m not getting into the issue of the debt. The fact that there is a court order it means due process has been carried out. My point was that the tow truck was only called. It had not even arrived on scene. Storage and all subsequent expenses don’t even enter the picture. Asking for £1700 is absolutely ridiculous.
They should change the name of that pub to "The Royal Douche".
The whole "I've been here for an hour so I'm increasing your debt 50%" is BS. Debtors get SQUASHED instead of settled
Then they should have paid when it was a regular court judgement and far less money, before the claimant had to pay to have it sent to high court and then to hire a bailiff company to collect the debt.

So many hostile comments. It's simple (not necessarily easy)- borrow, pay it back. Sell possessions to do so if necessary. It takes a long time and a lot of money to go through the courts to come to this point, including in the US. Don't get violent about it, just renegotiate the debt if needed, but pay it. Then this isn't needed.

Yeah but remember we don't have bailiffs except for the court system in USA. All they do is protect the judge and people at court. Some of us just have a American view we don't look past our own nation. I have made a friend in New Zealand. But I believe some of my fellow countryman and countrywoman are ignorant of different countries. We do have liens on people assets in USA. If someone owes another person money a lawyer can put lien on that person property till they pay or they go to court.
The added fees while on doorstep is disgusting, those fees are for the company these enforcers work for.not the debt

Yeah, seems fair. Can you imagine this happening if the British still had their firearms? LOL, I can't.
This doesn’t happen until *after* the debtor has his day in Court. They are straight up lying when they claim they had no idea. And yeah, if this was the USA and the agents were met with a gun, the escalation would be immediate and not end well for the debtor. Guns are not force fields and don’t entitle anybody to ignore their debts.
