Wait, did she say that pepper spray over there is considered a fucking fire arm?
That was poorly phrased. Pepper spray is classified as a prohibited weapon in the UK under Section 5 of the Firearms Act of 1968 so officers have to sign it out like a firearm since the inventory is tracked because possession outside of LE use is illegal.
Section 5 also covers offensive knives like butterfly knives, switch blades, etc. Basically anything designed or intended to inflict injury or harm to another person.
@@cruisinguy6024 not even mace. What a silly country.
@@TheLateKnight4785 its really not needed. Do you know anyone OTHER THAN law enforcement that’s needed pepper spray? I doubt it. The mace industry sure wants Americans to think it’s needed but nobody ever uses it in defense.
Pepper spray is illegal in many, if not most, developed countries.
One advantage of this is much more peaceful police interactions. In the US police kill around a thousand Americans every year whereas in the UK it’s just 2 or 3. In other countries it’s almost unheard of.
@cruisinguy6024 I've had to use my pepper spray in multiple occasions. Lol
@@TheLateKnight4785 I find that hard to believe
Only in the UK would the pepper spray my daughter has on her keychain be considered a lethal weapon!!!
We definitely need laws in America that make people over a certain age pass a health exam and prove they are still capable of safely driving. I'm having this problem with my own mother.
I am an expat living in Spain, and you have to have to have checks the older you get, then more frequent they get
Funny, we can let a demented old man run the country but you worry about health exams for older citizens. Show me the facts that older drivers are the problem you make them out to be.
Same as Canada medical after 70 and then every 3 years
In my state, there's an eye exam every year after a certain age. My mom was having issues with her vision and voluntarily gave up her license when she no longer felt like she could drive safely.
If you feel she is a danger, take the car keys from her. If she refuses, contact the state and explain it to them. They have the right to revoke the license. Your mom could appeal it and see if she gets it back.
I don't understand why they don't auction them off? Use the money to recover some the costs.
I’m pretty sure you can only impound it for up to a certain amount of time, and then they have to pay like $1000 or so to get it back.
My thought exactly, why would you scrap a perfectly good car? Just sell it off to recoup your losses. Then again, I live in a place (Canada) where I have seen cars that were written off from a crash that are restored and made into a viable vehicle again.
They probably tried that once but cars kept on getting recycled. I remember this fellow living across the road from where I worked. He racked up a huge amount in fines and obviously could not pay them. And furthermore he basically did not care. That was until the cops came along and seized his car to crush it. Man, did that change his attitude. he came across the road and complained to us. It was a 'poor me' whine. Getting his car crush certainly got to him. It had been his pride and joy.
Some of the cars are not worth the time and trouble of selling them at auction . If the car is in good condition they do go to auction
@@WJCTechyman Some of the cars are not worth the time and trouble of selling them at auction . If the car is in good condition they do go to auction
If the person at 7:14 can't understand what is happening then he should not be driving any vehicle.
This is why we here in Australia have bloody high registration because we pay taxes and insurance included in the registration but we pay extra for full coverage I.E. Fire, theft, and extras.
In Canada a lot of our taxes are in the licences (plates and the card) as well as fuel. Then there's driver's insurance. A number of people find paying insurance premiums to be a bit over the top. Probably the biggest expense isn't the car or fuel, it's maintaining the licences and insurance.
In Australia we have compulsory third party insurance it’s a part of your yearly registration. It basically covers you if somebody gets hurt or killed in the other vehicle and you are at fault. It definitely frees up police to be out doing more important things. That system looks like a money maker .
That's right, they are all money makers, kind a like 'yearly registration' LOL
Yes mate you would be rite about that to.
The most basic insurance in the UK is " third party fire and theft " , similar to whet you have . After that comes fully comprehensive which covers you for damage to others and repairs of your own car
Considering these idiots raise ALL of our premiums by their uninsured antics, I have no problem with them being impounded. The cost of getting it back is MORE than they would have paid if they had just gotten their insurance!
They used to build cars that didn't fall apart with fender benders as well and the car was not a write off . I believe this has adversely affected the cost of insurance . Perhaps insurance should be covered like health care. uninsured antics included affects all as well.
Typical narcissistic behavior, blame everyone else for the negative consequences of your actions or inactions.
I got arrested and locked up for not paying a $18AU that blew out to $389AU that I was not aware of 4 years before. Now here in Australia we can't reregister a car with a fine attached. My girlfriend came with the money to pay the fine or I would have been locked up for 4 days. I had no idea that the fine existed, I presume a kid took it off my window playing funny buggers but it was a shock to the system when I make sure everything is paid for.
Sounds like a form of lien on the vehicle.
Same happened to my mate in Queensland, his mate got a parking ticket that he didn’t know about, so they suspended his licence. It wasn’t until he got pulled over and they charged him for driving without a licence.
Range Rover driver: In essence, I drive a Range Rover, laws and regs don't apply to me.
Must be some kind of record in UK - having your car impounded by police after owning it for less than 20 minutes.
How long would it take to insure before driving away?
@@brianbickle7395 Depending on the insurance company maybe 20 - 30 minutes
Must be another record that a garage will let someone drive away without checking that a car has been insured ... !!!
That makes them as liable as the unlawful driver.
@@user-oe1mb9hu9i No, it's the responsibility of the driver not the garage or car dealer
They should be able to boot the car until the tow truck comes for the people with multiple tickets. Instead of playing the game to see if the tow truck gets there before the driver
Agreed, this is the dummest fucking rule I've ever heard. 35 tickets and they just let it go. In my county we would be put in jail for that many unpaid tickets
@@brandonlinkbullwhips Well, if The Simpsons told me anything, a fed up driver would rather tear out the fender and put pot holes in the road before anyone came to get them. Also, signalling left while turning right.
its also strange to me that they will scarp a perfectly good car if not claimed in i think they said 14days? why don't they auction them and get more than scrap prices? and the ones they are towing for parking tickets i am surprised they don't do like they do in the us and boot the car or i guess in the UK they call it clamping it
This is one big scam. A friend of mine takes tow trucks and police cars to a guarded parking lot, and then the police and towing companies are surprised that they have to pay to get their car back.
A lot of the cars are not worth the time and trouble of sending to auction . If the car is in good nick then they are sent to auction .
So the guy with L plates couldn't find anyone to accompany him, but he can call someone to come and pick him up! Amazing.
Unbelievable that a car salesman will let a car drive off his forecourt without checking that it's not insured !!!!!!!!!!!
I’m 73. In Australia, the medical profession can report concerning health conditions to the particular state licensing authority, which I have no difficulty with.
You are providing a service that goes a long way in ensuring the safety of countless others. Keep up the good work. 👍
If the US took DUI's that result in crashes half as serious as the UK takes droving without insurance or a license- we would have a WHOLE LOT LESS DUI's and deaths related to them.
What? I forgot to renew my insurance and I was allowed to have my a towed home. Glad where I Live in Canada there are no mandatory inspections.
I wish that the US was more strict with the uninsured and people with no license. In America, I've seen it to where some police do what they're supposed to do and arrest them and I've seen it to where they just let them go it's more ridiculous when they're dealing with foreign nationals and people like them. You know they're going to throw that ticket out and you know that they are not going to get neither insurance nor a drivers license. I'm wiling to forgive someone who just accidently forgot their license at home or mixed up the old insurance or registration with the new one but they have the paperwork, it's just at home.
easy answer...just move,,,,
In the uk cops can check instantly if you’re licensed registered and insured. If you’re not, it’s impounded with a set time to reclaim or it’s scrapped 😊
In my state you can just pay the state an "uninsured motorist fee" and be good to drive without any insurance.
@@Molon_Labe1776 so you leave someone paraplegic in a crash and the state picks up the tab for their injuries, care, loss of earnings, special housing??? Wonderful.
"Major Police Operation Infuriates Drivers that are breaking the law"
There,I fixed it for you
The UK actually takes handing out driving privileges seriously. Here in the US it's kind of a joke. Anyone old enough with more brain power than an encephalitic slug can get a license and it definitely shows on the roads. Way back when I got mine I had like 6 hours class time, a similar amount on a closed protected course and maybe an hour total road time. I got maybe another 5 with my parents supervising and then too the written and road test and boom, I was legal at 16 years old. I did ok, but there was no way I had enough practice time to be a good driver at that point.
In Denmark there is rules for how many theory lessons you need, driving lessons you need minimum, you need to take first aid classes, go on a special track where you experience the car spinning out and so on.
My daughter just got her license, we paid about $3000 (£2300) for the card.
If it's on private property how can they take it😊
What how they collect unpaid bills over there. They do what they like, it seems
I like this show!
In New York State, your new vehicle is NOT released from the dealer ship with the car being registered and insured with the paperwork in order.
That Land rover driver... I kinda knew his from the south pacific with his accent, and voilaa!! his from Fiji... Bula and hello from Fiji
Ever heard of booting the cars, so they can't just drive away. Duh.
"Stop and check" isnt legal in the us. But if they stop you for speeding etc, in some us states they can impound the car if not registered and insured.
I was going to ask that. Is this not an unauthorized search and seizure if they do not have probable cause? Oh, it DOES happen in the US. There is a famous video of the police pulling over motorcycles en masse for docs check. Not sure what State though.
Road safety and compliance checks are legal, checks for non-driving related are not without probable cause or violation are not. You should learn the difference between
Actually, most states have drunk driving checkpoints so we DO have stop and check. And if your car is out of mechanical order or expired tags, they can stop you. The British are just more honest about it.
Gladly no other country follows your anarchist model.
Why isn't the car dealership fined..In canada you have to show license and insurance before driving away
In the US too, I’ve never been able to leave a dealership in a new car without showing proof of insurance
@@JonnyRicterin Austria you only get license plates if you have a proof of insurance.
Same in Denmark....They will not let you drive off, if you have no insurance slip
In Canada and the rest of the English speaking world, License is spelled Licence.
1:11 She seems to think that she has to justify that they are impounding illegal vehicles. The drivers know if they risk driving without insurance, no tax or a vehicle not road worthy that they’re taking a risk of being caught. Mean while the crime they’re committing cost those that respect the law, especially insurance are costing them higher rates to pay for those trying to evade paying. Not to mention that vehicles in terrible conditions, like bald tires are putting lives at risk. It’s no accident victimless crime!
Still better than the “Parking Wars of Philadelphia” where getting you’re car back in this lifetime is questionable.._
Quite weird. You can have all those fines, yet literally minutes before your vehicle is impounded, come back and drive off in it..?? Weird indeed....
Come on... why do you insist on showing this like they're always perfect... do one where the police/impound people screw up!
Here in NYC if a car is in default of paying tickets the put a boot on the car witch is a half round lock on the car tire and the o2 er can't move there car then the tow truck comes and takes it
I'd hate to be cop in Britain, here in NSW Australia it is mandatory for every police officer to carry a firearm. They carry a 40 cal glock which is in the process of being changed over to a 9mm because of ease of recoil on the 9mm. CS spray is also carried by uniformed officers. Here in Australia every time you pay your yearly registration you have to provide proof of third party insurance (done electronically by the insurer). Comprehensive insurance is a separate policy. The third party insurance is transferred with the sale of a vehicle.
this is just weird. a whole industry setup for no reason..... just dont make insurance mandatory like Australia. what power do the police have to stop you purchasing insurance in front of them?
SO I don't understand. This Person that Moved her car before it could be towed away... Why can't she, or other people that are in the same position have their Car Wheel Locked, If she/they have Un-Paid Parking or other outstanding tickets, And then the Wheel Lock Removed when she/they proves the Out-standing Ticket(s)??? are paid? That logic is no different then someone having a warrant for their arrest, the police find the person but they can't arrest them because they aren't doing anything wrong at the time???
Does everyone drive Mercedes I the UK?
You can't fix stupid.
Everyone says they are there to help?!?
Lmfao watching them legit weigh cans of pepper spray had me dead. The UK low key has become so pathetic. Also if someone is literally getting insurance while being stopped then that should be sufficient. It’s ridiculous that they seize the car, someone else’s property, especially when they’re getting insurance as you speak. Seizing someone’s property for what is quite obviously a civil offense is the most obvious kind of predatory money grubbing. Even with the guy whose vehicle was insured and got seized anyway is just ridiculous. He should be paid for the inconvenience in general. Like these absolute losers are just standing around not saying anything about how she could just move her car and they’re deliberately staying quiet about it hoping she just lets them take her car lmao. Like does no one understand how slimy and lowlife this is?
The Lady on here from the recovery company you do it because it is a good earner stop trying to be so pious
victimless crimes , blocking people from using the roads that they own ! under common law equity = ownership , if you buy a car, you have ownership rights, do you ask for permission to use your car ? your taxes pay for the road , you own the road, and do not need permission to use it. Blocking the road is a violation of rights under the color of law.
I,m sure protecting the public is the Reason you are assisting the coppers, nothing about the money your making out of it
If everyone bought insurance like they are supposed to, your premiums would be about 20% lower, at least...
In Holland , you cannot cancel your insurance until the new owner has their insurance activated , therefore UNinsured vehicles do not exist in Holland
@@johnshaw4140 That won't stop uninsured people at all, they just will stop paying.
A good source of revenue for the government if nothing else.
Why can't the car with numerous tickets be booted and taken? The debt collector will boot and remove. So, why can't the police?
Do they grab people in the country illegally with no license or insurance?
They set up in lower income neighborhoods.
Steve knows he's doing something wrong.
Again foreign nationals ... disgraceful
The longer it takes to delay the release the more storage fees they can collect ! the police doesn't care !
legal stealing of your car
I also wish they wouldn't scrap the cars, I wish they would just donate the cars.
To much liablity
Why not let the guy buy insurance on the spot. He will still get a fine and points.
I love how they make it sound like they are "saving the world" by seizing all these cars!
I think you've missed the point.
They're out to save other road users from dangerous drivers and vehicles.
How does an uninsured driver cost insured drivers more money?
Because you pay for their accidents

Why do they scrap the cars instead of selling them on auction? Seems like a waste
They are selling car parts, making more money than selling all car on auction.

Holy tax land
There is always a language barrier when they have to deal with the police! And how in hell did she pass the written exam, road test without any knowing, speaking any English!
Why don't they simply have a law that allows them to clamp a car, instead of having 2 officers waiting for hours for the owner to show, only to have them drive the car away without any way to stop them. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Because those 2 people have the ability to negotiate payment plans & accept payments on the spot... Most repos end up in default but keeping the option of getting them to pay, last minute, is the optimal outcome for everyone...
This is where not being truly free has it's problems. Tyranny's can do whatever they want to you, and there is always some employee who is happy to take a paycheck in exchange for the opportunity to victimize the public. A great example of the bad actions of a few now adversely impacts everyone.
First, it’s “tyrants,” not “tyranny’s.”
Second, you clearly do not understand public policy. In the UK you get a license in part by promising to obey all the rules and regs. So what do think should happen if they’re caught? The laws benefit everyone if they’re enforced so what would be the point of having these laws if they’re not enforced?
@@diogeneslamp8004 First "Tyranny's" was in reference to those governing bodies exercising tyranny over it's subjects.

If you know your car can be seized it’s an incentive to stay legal 😊
i get that but they are seizing them then just destroying cars that are road worthy. just dont insurance or the driver didnt have a license.
here if it sits in the tow lot and the fees equal up the total of the vehicle the lot sends it to auction instead of just crushing it and taking the like 200 dollars for a cube. gets the tow yard and city some money back.
I'm a 30 plus year law enforcement officer in the southern US and when we do DUI checkpoints it's very common for people to try and get through and a few times they have tried to run us over but unlike Britain we carry firearms so the result can be very different.

That's because what you do is unconstitutional and ethically wrong. Also, fuck you in no uncertain terms.
Are we seriously running emergent to catch an unlicenced driver?
This is shi tty way to do business! Why all that circus and people time wasting? Yes people drive without any right, so did I. Do you ever understand what side effect it have if tolerated properly? So nice driving skill. I followed every sign, speed limit, everything. All that to avoid detection. I made zero accidents and I was happy it was tolerated before. Sure, it can not last forever. Only 1 thing is sure, insurance is SCAM.
These people can make that service very costly. They have right to take the key out from the vehicle and before that lower the windows. It means that, the secure place owner must store it inside the building, not outside. Also they must use the lift. They can not just use the plastic film because it leaks the water. If vehicle does not start or have damages, it is 100% their fault and they must cover the damages. It is nasty way but takes out their profit
“Insurance is a scam” until you need it and don’t have it.
It's not what you do that wrong it's the ridiculous charges you charge to recover them.

Luckily we have a fourth amendment in the U.S. that says police can't just set up a checkpoint and pull everyone over to check their papers.
Oh, wait...
They don’t tolerate uninsured vehicles in the UK . Take em off the road until fines , insurance , and tax is paid . Safer for everyone on the road .
Most of them are foreign nationals….
so in the UK you don't have to renew your driver license every so many years? in My state here in the usa it every 5yrs

Most countries have 10 years.
Old boomer licenses expire until they are around 70 ish years old. They then changed it to every 15 years here in Denmark
So glad I live in America
Why? No taxes and insurance needed there? 😂
So why do they distroy all cars rather then sell them? Especially perfectly good and legal cars
UK police don't carry guns either unless necessary sitting ducks
Law enforcement in the UK is sus af. They can stop and frisk anyone they please, including drivers. The way they conduct their policing of traffic also is sus af, @32:40 does not help either. Both officers knew there was a language barrier ( may or may not been bs) that look and whole vibe of the female officer clearly reaffirms my suspension, they need to get rid of her ahh for that one. She on camera could've been atleast a little discrete lol
They just crush the cars? That's absolutely insane. That's the most wasteful thing I've ever heard.
