      They are absolute scum.
People are on the bones of their ass. They genuinely do not have the funds to pay these outrageous amounts which the uniformed thugs known as bailiffs are claiming.
These thugs must be called out for what they are. Uniformed thugs.

In the US they are only allowed to repossess what has been used as collateral. For example if you have a Chevy Aveo that you owe $3000 and a Mercedes that you own outright they can only take the Aveo. Then they auction the Aveo & get $1500 you still owe $1500. All the creditor can do is file collections & sue. But the Mercedes can't be touched.

Plus the problems that are shown in all of the "Baliff type" shows, they purposely sell the stuff they take for way under the actual value. They'll take 100K worth of stuff for a 20k debt and sell it for 10k and claim you still owe over 10k.
Also they just said they can take a car because "She's on the insurance".. Try that here and you'll most likely got shot.. ownership is by "title of ownership" not accident insurance.. again another UK craziness.

I've known many people who were routinely harassed by inapt car dealers, who either were horrible with records or just didn't care. Repo agents were even sent after these people's cars. My mom was one of them. She had all the paperwork saying she had paid off the car more than a year ago when it happened for the first time. That tow truck driver was stopped at gun point in our very long driveway while we waited for the cops to show up. After the police left with the car still in the driveway, the office said the realized their mistake and fixed it. It happened a few times with the same result. Eventually the dealer was sued and went out of business. The others I knew that had the same type of thing happen from other dealers did the same thing more or less.

The debt collectors on the show don’t appear to be the sort of private collectors normally envisioned in the US, but rather appear to be officers of the court.
In the US, a Levy is pretty much the same thing, in which officers designated by the court, can seize assets and cash to satisfy a judgment.
The rules for a property levy are quite stiff in the IS though, as many household goods, and even jewelry and vehicles (notwithstanding a lien) up to a certain value, are off limits. Additionally, the burden of proof for ownership of items is on the collector. (This does not appear to be the case in the UK, so roommates beware).
Given the restrictions involved, imposing a levy without being certain of the debtor’s assets, is likely to prove fruitless. It seems that in the show, the collectors are relatively certain of the assets of the subjects, as to do otherwise is a waste of time.
Wage garnishments are more common in the US.

The UK has got to be the easiest country to get over on the system. First lesson learned here: Indebted immigrants are schooled in changing the name of the company they are trading under every time they want to scam a creditor. Second, the number of rent scams is intolerable. I can't understand why landlords even rent out property in this stupid country. Third, the number of immigrant and illegal migrant debtors should be held up as proof these people are a scourge on the UK.

The way it works, and I don't really agree with it, is after they take property it sits for about 14 days and in that time you can provide them proof that it's owned by someone other than the debtor. If you can provide that proof they are required to give it back. Otherwise it goes to auction.

So in the UK you have to confront or try to receive the money on the spot before taking the car? Lol my best friend is a repo guy here in Detroit. We just yank them. I say we cause I ride with him all the times. It's a hell of an adrenaline rush and it's not something I think I could do but that's just me.
We hit blocks, grocery stores, parking lots, bars, hotels, motels we hit everything. The cameras scan both sides of the streets. Traffic coming towards you traffic next to you it doesn't matter it's collecting and going into a database. It will Pick up a plate in the front or back doesn't matter. The repo truck has cameras all around it. If a vehicle hits he has a special tone on the lap top from Dave Chappelle that says GOTCH YA BITCH 😂.
Just remember if you're in the United States. It doesn't matter if you're up for repo or not your plate 9 times out of 10 is in the system just from a repo truck passing you on the road. It picks up everything and it stores that data just in case in the future a person does come up as a repo then the information is already in the system. I didn't know that's how it all worked until I rode with him and I was blown away.
It is not a job for the weak I promise you. You have to separate feelings from the job especially ones where there is contact with the owner. 80% of the time you don't even see the person you're just grabbing the car. One time we drove through a Meijer parking lot. For those of you not from the six states that have a Meijer it's a grocery store. We went up and down the aisles and a car hit. He called it in to his agency and once it is confirmed he can then grab the car. Once the car is grabbed hell pull off down the road and contact the Police department wherever he may be and let them know because most think their car was stolen before they realized it's the repo guy. My point is. Hooking that car that day. I just had this thought in the back of my mind of a single mother of 2 maybe 3 just barely getting by maybe fell behind And is grocery shopping and comes out and the car is gone. That's the hard part.
I tell him all the time to upload shorts and videos but He says one day he will upload footage and I have seen shootings and s*** that would blow your mind. One dude was sleeping in his car one day. He scooped it up. Starting driving away pulled onto 7 mile and all of a sudden you just hear the horn. We thought it was alarm. There was a dude sleeping in the back. He instantly dropped the vehicle. Because technically he could have got in trouble for not getting out and checking the vin etc ... Biggest comment I ever wrote 😂😂😂
