I'm so excited, I followed your instructions exactly, and it worked perfectly. The "SERVICE REQUIRED" message had been showing since the day I serviced my 2019 Discovery Sport. I even took it back to the garage, but they couldn't fix it. However, the issue was resolved in less than 30 seconds after I followed your advice. Thank you so much
Colin, glad you like it and thanks for the positive comment. New cars are still the same as old cars under the plastic covers, an engine and four wheels, they just need repairing a different way sometimes from how we used to do it.
Tried this in the past and it reset to 8,000. Then it ran down to 0 so tried again and it only reset to 1600 to next service. Now currently at 1500 and just won't reset whatsoever. Went to Land Rover and the mechanic said he has never heard of resetting the service internal this way. He then said the only way to reset is to book it into Land Rover to do it on the diagnostic machine. I had this car fully served by an independent garage last year for half the price of Land Rover and they used all Land Rover parts. Land Rover puts these electronic vehicles together but makes it so difficult for the owners to actually do anything to maintain their own vehicles. This is surely a restrictive practice that should be outlawed.
Well that’s interesting because i got this reset procedure from the JLR service manual… that said if your is a MY18 car or MY17 car that has the software updated to essentially make the service indicator count down more slowly due to dial in oil dilution then this could be the reason
@@mercedes_and_more I recently bought it from a Mercedes dealership who had done a service, but not reset the counter…so this was a massive help to me - many thanks again 👍
Thanks for useful video. I have Land Rover Discovery Sport 2015 and can't find service information on dashboard. Also changed oil and filter but can't reset service regard. Any advise?
JUMA - I think service advice was only from MY16 (along with slightly different middle graphics in the dashboard). I would have to look in the dealer service manual but away for a couple of weeks so I can't give you an immediate answer
Hi. I have just tried to do this on my 66 plate Disco Sport but can’t get it to work. Should it still work? I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Had an oil change at a local garage and now just need to reset the service indicator. Thanks.
It should work on upto MY17 cars. My only thought is that your car went back into the dealers and had the service software update done which JLR quietly slipped out in 2017 to adjust the oil service algorithm so that it stopped showing the need for a service every 7k miles? It didn't solve the need for the oil change but that's another story.... This update (I think) stopped this reset procedure. I can't help any more as I don't own the car anymore and I stopped following the forums about the diesel in oil issues cause by poor Partical Filter location on this engine.
M & M thanks for the prompt reply. I had the car in the dealership for a recall a few weeks ago which included a software update. I imagine that that has stopped it doing the reset. Again, many thanks.
I have MY17 car - reset works but only adds 7k miles to next oil service! At least it doesn't come up all the time saying need service; can aways do it again half way through the oil life as normally get 14k befre it comes in...
👍👍 sounds like your car escaped the JLR software update which essentially put the MY18 (lying) algorithm in place which lengthened service intervals but didn't fix the diesel in oil issue (a by product of which was that the service reset didn't work). Good news for you 👍👍
Any update for the 2017 models as this does not work for mine HSE LUX. I've tried it 3 times and my mechanic had these instructions downloaded from the net and he couldn't get it to work either.
Not sure. Mine is an MY17 model. I know for MY18 cars the reset doesn't work or for cars that have had the oil service counter update. That is to say in the service display you see three pieces of info, oil change due, service due and remaining AdBlue - does this help you?
I don't know as my MY15 car only did 9000miles before I sold it so it was never serviced by me. My gut feel is yes as the online info came from a very early workshop manual. Grateful if you try it and does to keep the Channel up to date 👍👍
@@mercedes_and_more Looks like there is no more messages about service interval, so i guess it cleared it out, but restricted mode is up! Car doesn't reach full performance. I doubt service intervals would cause it?
It's likely as a 2017 car it has had a software update that blocked this feature - it's when JLR adjusted the algorithm to slow down the counter for when it needed an oil change due to the poor scr Design causing excessive pdf regeneration leading to excessive oil dilution from oil.
@@mercedes_and_more Thanks for your reply. Yes, My car had just recently updated the software in couple of months ago. Is there any alternatives to do the SERVICE REQUIRED reset?
Daniel Rocha-Garcia it is not Ford any more, but even those who had them after ten years hold more than 50% of value. Than can not be say from any Ford.

That’s fantastic!
Thank you so much for being so thoughtful as to put this video up as a resource.
yup keep it coming! thanks
Thank you sir for your knowledge.
You are very kind - thank you.
Eric, no only the service indicator. AdBlue counter remains unchanged and resets itself automatically when you top up the AdBlue.
Works thank you M17

Follow the same procedure, but with the bonnet and door fully open before start this procedure.
Thanks 👍

Honestly I don't know but I suspect it is pure coincidence. Maybe you knock a sensor or similar renewing a filter?
@@mercedes_and_more Thank you!

Doesn't work - was this first released on April 1st?
No it wasn't. If it didn't work I wouldn't have posted it. Think it stopped working on my18 onward cars (so Aug/Sep 17 onward production)

Thanks for the reply @@mercedes_and_more , let see if any one knows the reset trick with out a code reader, if I come to know will share it here.
@@g.shanmugasundaram1747 Did you eventually find a method to reset DEF light? Or you just took the car to repair service?
Se puede hacer con un scanner?
Es muy probable, pero ya no abro el auto, así que no lo sé.
Service information not reset the method didn't work 😕
There is an opinion that this won't work on MY18 cars and later, but I can't comment as mine was an MY17. Sorry
Hello , fir my 2018 model doesn’t work it’s saying counter rest but when I go in info 0 miles
Sadly I think this only works upto MY17 and only those MY18 that escaped the dealer call back for software updates. Sorry.
What’s a bonet
A bonnet? Sits over the engine between the wings
the front hood over the engine
Your car is a way overpriced ford
Maybe once, but this has JLRs own Ignenium diesel, was a much better car when owned by Ford as it has a Peugeot diesel. Still an inciteful comment.

Ignorant and uninformed comment.
