Thanks for the video! Independent mechanic shops try to charge an arm and a leg here in the States...."because it's a Land Rover" for an oil change for my wife's Disco Sport. They wanted to charge us $100 for the filter alone. Long story short, I ordered a filter directly from the JLR dealership, factory part, and it cost me 14 bucks. Probably the easiest oil change I've ever done.
LONG TIME SINCE IVE MESSED WITH CAR ENGINES AS AM 65 NOW, BUT WHEN R/ROVER SAID £500 TO CHANGE THE OIL & FILTER I DECIDED TO GET THE OLD SOCKET SET OUT AGAIN AND DO IT MYSELF FOR £65, GREAT VID THANK YOU BECAUSE I COULD NOT FIND THE OIL FILTER LOL
Maybe the spec has been updated or the spec of the oil downgraded but i can absolutely say at the time this was the right oil for the engine. I did much research as this was the only thing i could find at the time that wasn’t some hideously expensive Castrol product that LR were peddling.
Thanks for your positive comments. I had an MY15 that was shocking, an MY16 that was good and an MY17. The last one was terrible. I have heard newer ones are better but I can't comment. All I know is my current E Class feels like a Rolls Royce by comparison.
thank you, that's really helpful. cannot believe they don't seem to have resolved these issues - I'm basically looking for a way to justify getting one but it's not really possible with this level of reliability! @@mercedes_and_more
We won't even talk about fuel dilution, fragile balencer shafts or the lack of passive dpf regen due to poor design. Shame as the car itself is a fantastic piece of packaging.
Great video, I bought the oil and the filter you suggested. How does the filter cartridge come out? €54 for 10ltrs was good, cost me £34 for 5ltrs at trade!!
Good to know you found it helpful. I will have to do another oil change soon and edit in this info. However, all you need to do is unscrew the housing off and then pull off the filter from inside the cap. To replace, just push the new filter into place until you here it click home. You need to prise off the old oil seal ring that is in the filter cap and replace with the new one. Trust this makes sense?
Hello everyone and congratulations for all your videos, really very useful and detailed ...... The video on replacing the fuel filter would be missing ..... Can you do something?
Not sure? However when I watched the video last night I realised I had edited out the piece we filmed showing how to pull the old oil cartridge out and slot the new one in - sorry!
I don't, but usually they are not that tight (well they shouldn't be!). I THINK it's about 25nm. In all my years of doing this sort of thing I normally tighten it stops turning without any force and then just a tad more. I do have the workshop manual so will check and let you know.
Because mine was completely replaced by LR because of a huge leak. And when I look to your video I think that like my ZF 9 speed, they forgot to put these 2 elements. D you remember having them ? Do you have a private email ?
M & M , what was the problem then that u have ur automatic transmission oil seal replaced? I had my engine replaced under warranty since then the transmission changes is not as smooth as before like from park to reverse it jolts the car. And from 3rd to 4th gear change its like have a slight pause before it engaged.
Do your own service and "put a stamp in the book". Where do you get the stamp, toy town garage? You dont need to drive the car to warm the oil, about 2 minutes will bring it to around 100 deg, not hot enough to burn you, but hot enough for it to flow easier. For those with the car on a sloped drive, you need to level it! Put the recommended quantity of oil in, "just above the minimum" is just above the minimum, not the correct amount!
Thanks for your inciteful comments. Engine oil will not get that warm in 2 mins, especially in a modern diesel fue to the thermal efficiency of the engine (that's why unless you have an external heater) it didn't really get any warm sure to the crib for them first 10 mins. Once out of guarantee many people will do their own servicing so no stamp is required, or you may wish to do your own intermediate oil change, especially as this engine in the DS installation is known for excessive diesel in oil dilution as a result of poor pdf location and lack of exhaust temperatures to promote passive pdf regeneration. It conducts much more active regeneration. I am looking forward to your new perfectly correct video upload - please be sure to let us know when you have uploaded so that we can enjoy watching it and understand our many mistakes.
a woolz, I no longer own this car so cannot verify, but you will have the old PSA 2.2 engine (?), the car in the video equipped with an Ignenium engine.
I had to buy the 90mm 15side tool off eBay for £9 to get the filter undone, it was actually really easy. Otherwise it was exactly as you said I this video. I used some Wynns oil flush before draining and the oil fired out slightly further than I thought!! Strangely 5ltrs got to halfway up my dipstick. Great video.
Officially 2 years or 22000 miles. In reality it's about every 7500 to 10000 miles as the oil gets dilluted from having to do active DPF Regeneration as the design of the engine and ancileries is poor and little passive DPF Regeneration takes place.
Hi M & M and fellow Disco owners FYI you can purchase the oil filters from Autodoc GmbH info@pkwteile.de for EUR 11,95 +P+P. My Service warning flashed up so I went to the Local Dealer (in Germany) they said there was a call back for a software update and as I have only done 8600 km the car does not require a service , they did the update and cleared the warning. the next day the warning message is back, and not wishing to pay the Garage price I will do it myself. On another note what was the problem with your gearbox? I had a rumbling noise from mine(Automatic) at 1500 rpm after only 500 km, the dealer says to observe if the noise gets worse and they have informed Land Rover of the problem.
@@mercedes_and_more I had the same leak on my 2017 model, LandRover Slough wanted to charge me £13k for a new gearbox...joke... I had it fixed by a independant LR specialist for £1.4k ... result

Well done great informative video, ps honda motorcycle filter tool fits perfectly.
Thanks for the comment; great to have been of some help.
Very helpful and informative. Thank you
Brilliant job thank you
thanks, great video and straight to the point.
very good video, thanks . Have you done one on how to change the Fuel filter?
Glad the video was helpful. I didn’t have the car long enough to do that one I’m afraid. Sorry.
2-points (1) Cover the turbo device with a cloth to stop getting burnt. (2) Purchase an oil filter cap extractor, eBay about a fiver.
Hi
Not sure that the Petronas 7000E oil is to JLR.03.5007 spec.Communication from a couple of reliable sources say it should be 7000FJ which does .

Thanks for this. Can you please make a video for Discovery sports spark plug change?
Hi. I can’t I’m afraid as my cars were diesel and i no longer own a Landrover DS.
Are you sure that the oil filter is hand tight because I can’t open it with my hand and I cannot find the wrench for this oil filter
It is supposed to be done up to about 20Nm, however, heavy handed mechanics and heat cycles don’t help!
How are you finding the petronas oil, any difference or issues while driving? Great video by the way 👍🏼
Car is now sold, however, real difference was that it hot about another 2000 miles between oil changes. Apart from that no change.
Good job

It’s a 65mm 14flute

For petrol engine the oil filter is under the motor.
