Not sure if Mama actually did know that there would be days like these, but here we are anyway. Had a good time this morning with the Shirelles and some ‘verbed out, laidback sounds. Reina del Cid is a singer songwriter and leader of the eponymous folk rock band based in Los Angeles and Minnesota. Her song-a-week video series, Sunday Mornings with Reina del Cid, has amassed a devoted and diverse following made up of everyone from jamheads to college students to white-haired intelligentsia. In 2011 she began collaborating with Toni Lindgren, who is the lead guitarist on all three of Del Cid’s albums, as well as a frequent and much beloved guest on the Sunday Morning videos. The Sunday Morning videos also feature a rotating cast of bandmates, special guests, and occasional random bystanders.

"Mama Said" written by Luther Dixon and Willie Denson. The Shirelles hit was a faster tempo but once again Reina
and Toni make another song their own. This song was the inspiration for Van Morrison's "Days Like This".
I wondered if this was going to be the Van Morrisson song. You can definitely hear that it was inspired by this song.

A favorite song from long ago. Sung and played so well. What makes it sound so good is that perfect tempo. Reina’s best singing. Toni playing the keyboard as well as she plays a guitar. Great, rich videography. Well done.

I’m continually amazed at this duo! The rich tones in Reina’s voice and the fact that I have lost count of the number different instruments Toni can play, can play well. Amazing. Keep it coming.

Do you have a different mic or something else different in the recording chain? This recording has an exceptional vocal tone.
I've been somewhat irritated with the setup they usually use, with a single mic when both of them sing. With Toni standing two or three feet away, I believe the mic gain has to be turned up pretty high, so Reina, in close, has to almost whisper. Alan Williams I know next to nothing about audio, or how to get the best out of the equipment. That being said, this may be the first video they’ve done where I’m not straining to hear Reina’s vocal. She has a lovely voice, and an unusual voice. Hope we get to hear more of it.
There's a slight reverb on it, and they actually mixed the audio to perfect levels and dubbed in the piano. Usually they just record everything live at the same time and "pre-mixed".
@@snailer06 I like the live stuff better, just because everyone's in the same space and time. This does sound really well mixed tho, smooth and velvety.
When old is new
I looked this up. It was recorded and popular in the early 60s. You know you're in the presence of artists who have mastered their craft when they interpret something long forgotten and make it fresh (if not timely). Someday you two will be more widely known like Dylan, Simon, Cash, Cohen, Mitchell, et al., and other greats. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later.

My mama did say there'd be days like this, after living through WWII and the depression. She lived a long beautiful life and taught me how to crack an egg with one hand. I am amazed that you can play that Tele with the maple board. They make me snow blind. . Beautiful work girls.
