If you would have told me when I was twenty something, that someday one could sit in their dining area or den, grab their guitar, take a sip of wine, and sing a song, then post it on RUclips for potentially millions of viewers, I would have said..”no way!” Now that I am 78, I truly understand that change can come in small waves, or in giant tsunami’s. But the platform or social media is never better than the thing posted, and when an old and mournful, pleasing folk song is played and sang by a superb artist, it is a delight to behold. The rich history of folk music goes on. If we would all just stop to appreciate it, the ballad, the story in a song, the narrative of a life lived with ups and downs, success and failure, happy times, and even depression, well, all I can say is…..there is a universal longing, artistic expression, and a message for each of us. Let us all keep looking for it. God bless.
@@dreamalittledo I’m not from USA but I think this kind of music and performance is more popular there than what goes for popular music. For the few big money stars there are thousands making or supplementing a living. This song is Americana genre, which I see as a fusion of folk music from many countries. I think you should check bluegrass music if you haven’t already, a root of Americana, and itself rooted in Scandinavian folk music.
Thank you young lady. Not only did you make this old man smile but I’m sure there’s a man named John smiling down by the Green River where Paradise lay.
Greetings from Germany and thank you for this beautiful tribute to John Prine. There is no better way to do it. I am sure he would be very happy about it and he would be proud.
The dress, the table, the colour scheme, the guitar, the ice cold beverage and of course, you Toni. It all comes together in one beautifully inspired masterpiece. Thanks Toni!
True. Nice dress, nice painting, nice table, nice plant. Real nice sound. Actually, at the end, at 4:05, the pattern of the dress and the pattern on the side of the table come together with the shapes of the paintings on the walls. Nice work all around. Again, nice voice and playing.
Everything about this performance is stunningly beautiful, starting with the clarity of the guitar and circling to the mellow tones of Toni’s voice. A keeper.
So glad Blaze Foley is getting the recognition he deserves, I found this song about a year or so ago and have been obsessed with it since. Seeing more and more covers coming out makes me so happy.
I love this song and this cover is so beautiful. Fun fact: feeding pigeons clay protects them and heals them against certain things. It made me view the lyrics in a more beautiful light.
wow amasing tallent break up cords i am 76yrs i would like to play one day like you. gods tallent mam over hundreds of hrs i can hear your voice n your playing I LOVE IT. GOD BLESS
Great performance of one of the best tunes ever written. The legacy of Texas songwriters like Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark is an absolute gold mine.
Those names you mention help make up my playlist. It’s remarkable to me why not everyone knows those names. It’s uplifting knowing that Toni, Elle, Carson McKee and Josh Turner are keeping those names alive. Toni is my favorite guitarist by far now. Carry on guys.
I've been playing and singing this awesome song for years. Blaze Foley's story has a very sad ending but John Prine gave the song some exposure. This is a great version. Thanks Toni!
So did I . I grew up near Fond du Lac long before she was born. Hopefully someday I will have the opportunity to meet her and Renia and see them perform live
Literally everything in this video is beautiful to look at, then it's soaked in beautiful music. That took me away...and I'm still sitting here...frozen....
Thank you Toni. Straight to the heart. John is an American icon. One of the three kings of American folk music. The other two are Bob Dylan and Robert Hunter. They are American icons Toni, and so are you. 🫂 John Prine RIP Robert Hunter RIP God bless you Toni.
The simple niceness of the setting and Toni's slightly-modified style perfectly matches her performance of the song. The genius of Toni and Reina lies in their ability to get this kind of thing just right when their musical talent alone might seem to guarantee their success. It's a craftsmanship which many musical stars didn't seem to develop before RUclips. It's not the best platform for _everything,_ but it is the best for this sort of thing!
Performing this at the low end of her vocal range gives a definite Prine effect. Masterful playing - left hand like a spider's legs (in the very best way).
As Inhave said before many times, you are one of the tastiest lead players out there. Now you show a mellow smooth voice and melodic finger picking. So much talent and an inspiration.
The way you channeled Mr Prine's sound, voice and guitar, is truly amazing. Many of yours and Elle's covers are creative and inventive modifications that I appreciate. I love this one because it is so close to the original but in a (wonderful) female voice.
Ah Toni, that was beautiful. First of all great choice on the song. Your picking was spot on as always. Your vocals are a joy. I can remember leaving a comment a long time ago that singing low and quiet was difficult to do well. So I suggested you sing to the back row., and not be timid. It has been a real treat to hear more of you in recent months. I enjoy all the combinations we get from you and Reina and all y'alls friends. I really enjoy hearing you step out and sing. Keep doing what you obviously love to do Toni. Make music. Always looking for what's next from you. Thanks for this vid.
The best song writing is story telling that is real and relatable. Thank you for introducing me to this song Toni. I am not actually from the younger generation, but I have had a huge void in my knowledge of such music. My appreciation of well done covers has gone up so much since I started following you. In a world of mega production and super concerts I greatly appreciate the pure beauty of a well played acoustic guitar accompanied by a sweet, humble voice.
OK here’s the deal. Virtuoso on guitar, soothing beautiful voice, very pretty lady. Toni you have stolen my heart. You and Elle are one hell of a team. Do more singles.🎸
Beautiful sang ,interpretation and arrangement ,Toni my friend ! Excellent performance! Congratulations and great like ! Best wishes from Austria !🎶🎤🎸❤
Great song. Great guitarist. Great singer. Great cover. There are so few performances anywhere that can match this. Your taste in all you do is impeccable. Proof, for me, is how fast the tears welled up as soon as you began to sing. More please, the world needs you...
I've been listening to Toni, Riena, Josh and Carson for a few years, saw them live in Portland or, a couple years ago, the best part is I get ideas to improve my own guitar playing, at 73 that and my wife Juli and the best parts of my life, keep picking y'all

so it was the big bottle of wine🎉... just jeerin... well said... cheers
No ice in wine
Well put. ❤
You're a legend brother. Age like fine wine!
Take care and we'll see each other on the Isle of Avalon.
She has the most beautiful timing and touch on all her guitar playing. She's in a class of her own. Love all her and Reina's music!
Eh she’s okay lol
I adore Toni. Not so much Reina. Reina does not love the unborn child.
Just a woman, her guitar and a ton of talent,... a superb example of 'less is more'! Thank you, Toni, for enriching our lives with what you do!
So well said! And so true!

@@paulembleton1733 hi Paul, good tip. Not sure about the Scandinavian influence though -- Scottish, Irish and English definitely
Well said indeed
You made an old man cry.
I can't believe how talented this young lady is,,, she's awesome, her playing warms this old mans heart
The finger playing on the guitar and singing voice is something out of the ordinary
This woman knows what she's doing.
Thank you young lady. Not only did you make this old man smile but I’m sure there’s a man named John smiling down by the Green River where Paradise lay.
I count myself blessed to have met Toni on two occasions. A wonderful talent and very sweet girl.
For the first time on her videos, and those of Reina, Toni in a very pretty dress 👍👍
Sometime a simple "thumb's up" is not enough.
I wish I could give it a big warm hug. Thank you Toni. The fairy fingers lady.
I was struck with the same. For some reason the dress really kinda stood out as a cool touch.
yes the table is also amazing!

Nice
Pure class.
You did Blaze and John proud.
There is a beautiful sorrow in your voice, then your fingers find a joyful hope that lifts my heart!
❤ TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT STEPHANIE 🎉RAY TWELVE STRINGS U.K
This is the first time I've heard anybody play great renditions of John Prines songs not easy.
It’s a Blaze Foley song.
Everything about this performance is stunningly beautiful, starting with the clarity of the guitar and circling to the mellow tones of Toni’s voice. A keeper.
Jaw-dropping. Simplicity and style.
the lioness of acoustic jams
So glad Blaze Foley is getting the recognition he deserves, I found this song about a year or so ago and have been obsessed with it since. Seeing more and more covers coming out makes me so happy.
She makes me happy and sad when she sings and plays. What a beautiful lady.
My god. I wish I had 1/10th the talent you had, Toni.
Magic, one of the best all round guitarists of this time.
Great version of this John Prine song! With her voice and emotion she seems like a “soul sister” of John.
blaze foley
You are 99.9% pure and you inspire me.
My grandpa has Alzheimer’s and he loves this song, especially your rendition. He showed it to me today and I’m learning it from your video. Thank you🙂
Like the way you sing the way you play the guitar. And the way you are
I love this song and this cover is so beautiful.
Fun fact: feeding pigeons clay protects them and heals them against certain things. It made me view the lyrics in a more beautiful light.

Absolutely deep and heartfelt emotion
Beautifully played and sung Toni, love your voice. Great to hear these great songs being kept alive!! Have a lovely evening 😀🙋🏼♂️
Always enjoy watching and listening to Toni sing and play.
She wasn't just playing and singing a song a lot of hurt in her past sure came out in her voice and in her guitar. A very heartfelt piece!
A beautiful young woman with a beautiful voice. Perfectly playing a beautiful instrument. Oh how beautiful.
Great performance of one of the best tunes ever written. The legacy of Texas songwriters like Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark is an absolute gold mine.
Man, that Texas songwriter roster is solid.
Played by one of the best from Wisconsin
Those names you mention help make up my playlist. It’s remarkable to me why not everyone knows those names. It’s uplifting knowing that Toni, Elle, Carson McKee and Josh Turner are keeping those names alive. Toni is my favorite guitarist by far now. Carry on guys.
Beautiful. Toni Lindgren is fabulous.
I've been playing and singing this awesome song for years. Blaze Foley's story has a very sad ending but John Prine gave the song some exposure. This is a great version. Thanks Toni!
Glad to see Toni's channel growing. She deserves it and so much more.
I have watched this 10 times it always makes me cry
Taking that slow drink before your performance was so Rock Star.❤️
and with every one of my 1000 views (and counting), it gives the thrill of a moment of anticipation! She is so awesome. :)
Your excellent guitar was fun, but that deep voice, so full of emotion, brought chills and tears of joy. Thanks, Toni
A wonderful performance. Thank you for sharing the talent so well displayed.
Love Toni’s guitar playing!… UK fan.
Beauty and talent that makes it a pleasure to listen to her work. Congratulations.
Brought me to tears. Thankyou Toni.
A contented sigh and a smile, thank you.
Less is more, and this performance is perfection Toni............
Love the "Wisconsin" lyric, "changing the word the song" and making it personal.... Excellent!
So did I . I grew up near Fond du Lac long before she was born. Hopefully someday I will have the opportunity to meet her and Renia and see them perform live
You’re certainly doing that wonderful HD-28 justice my lady. You just made my day with this performance. Thank you so much for sharing this.
AWESOME song and Guitar picking and I'm 73 but I never listened a lot to his music but should have and will!! Thanks Toni!!
Nobody can sing this better than John Prine, but I have to say you have come very close. A wonderful rendition thank you.
Blazes original is my favorite
@@gonzoreader7391 Plus it doesn't have the random line change that makes the song less personal
Blaze is the one
Literally everything in this video is beautiful to look at, then it's soaked in beautiful music. That took me away...and I'm still sitting here...frozen....
This is the new best version of this song.
Love this great cover of a John Prine song! Warm voice. Exquisite guitar picking. Makes it look easy. Jeez - if only!
Great job, Blaze and John would be so proud!!!😍😍😍
I was smiling the entire time you played that song. Thank you for the joy you placed in my soul
Same here.
Beautiful lady, beautiful voice and a beautiful song. Thank you Toni!

Fine example of a simple song saying so much. One of my favorites of John's.
Great job Toni. That is the best rendition of that song I have ever heard. I like your playing even better than Foley's. Great singing too.
Those eyes... That voice...That song...Everything is so beautiful
Awesome Toni!
Thank you Toni. Straight to the heart.

Thank you Toni for paying a tribute to Mr. John. He is truely missed. Thankfully we have his music to remember him by. Well done as usual.
I like this song. Learned from it by listening to John Prine's version. I like all your singing and Reina del Cid too. Greetings from Barcelona, Spain
Wow, perfect playing, vocal and so cool habit with coffee cheers at first 🌹👋

Beautiful. That last little triplet on the C chord, chef's kiss. You are such a great instrumentalist, and have a beautiful voice!
John Prine had a cadense in his verses and delivary that mastered imagery with a soul . Great job on a great song .
