To the Petersens, I understand your desire to sing it from a woman's perspective. But can you go through the lyrics again, I find discontinuation as you replace I with you, especially, when "some other woman's cryin' to her mother 'Cause she turned and you were gone" From the beginning, it is a woman who is singing and the man is stable in one place. The Petersens are a family in which music instead of blood flows through their veins. It is simply wonderful to be able to experience them as a musical family. Many thanks for that.
There is more talent in this one video of 4 minutes and 10 seconds, than I have experienced in my whole 66 years of living. Rare, beautiful, lovely talent and happy, close, loving family...it shows in their music!!
Did anyone else notice the cat? 😊 A couple announcements... 1. As we noted in the description, the song was written by John Hartford! The video is titled "Glen Campbell" because our versions sound more similar and he made the song famous. We love and respect both of these amazing artists! 2. Our next song will be an original AND a live performance! As always, thank you all for your continued support! Pretty wild... I discovered them about a month ago too! My wife and I have a cabin near Branson and we're going to have to try and catch them next summer!
I had just listened to two different versions of this great tune before I stumbled across this one, and it brought me to tears. I can imagine that this is exactly the way John Hartford would have wanted to hear it. Love Emmet's dobro.
wow! I just stumbled upon this clip in my feed, and discovered the Petersens (where have I been?!). Listening to this rendition of Gentle on my Mind had me in tears. Just beautiful...
I cannot love this version of this classic song enough. I've been listening to it everyday for the past week-and-a-half. It's just...phenomenal and perfect.
Wonderful performance of this classic. John Hartford wrote this, Glenn Campbell made it a hit. I’m so glad there are young people that appreciate it and do it justice.
I just can’t hear this song enough! Your family performed this as beautifully as I’ve ever heard (outside of the first time with Glen doing the original)! I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in 1968-69 when I was a young Marine combat infantry officer in Vietnam. I was down near China Beach in DaNang and heard it playing. I was in the mash unit being treated for wounds and said to myself, “I’ve got to learn that song when I get back to the world!” I did exactly that, thanks to God for getting me home safely. There’s no song that I’ve ever played more...over...and over...and over. Just can’t get tired of it. I’m 76 and I remember when I heard the news that Glen died....I just broke down and cried! Thanks for the memories, kids (and mom!)...I believe Glen would have loved to hear your rendition...and maybe he just did! ;) Jerry Glazener, Capt. USMC, ret...and still picking in Texas!
Captain, first of all thank you for your service to our great country. I would like to refer you to John Hartford's version of this song if you haven't already heard it. He is the writer of the song and an immensely talented musician. Blessings to you sir...
I'm 69 and was fortunate to be watching the Glen Campbell Show when he first sang this. I am so happy for you that you returned from the Nam, only wishing that all could have done so as well. You had it SO tough. Every time I visit the Wall in Washington I am moved to tears.
Captain Glazener. Thank you for your service in the Vietnam War. Those of us that served later, and were treated right by are fellow citizens know you Vietnam vets got a really raw deal from the American people. Well, this citizen at least, really appreciates you. Glad you lived to learn this song. Oh, folks should always remember, "Don't Mess With Texas!"
Has anyone else been binging on their music lately? Every time I think one sibling is the most talented I watch their next video and change my mind. LOL.
Covid 102-105 degree for 6-8 weeks... I don't know day it is, or even if it day or night. You KNOW I gotta be binging on them, to maintain my sanity and remember what happiness used to be. I'm confident that I'll live, but I've about a month of abject misery yet to endure. You can only play the hand you're dealt. Play it wisely.
@@MarkWilsonMSW : I'm feeling much better. But being treated now for some serious liver thing. Ah, the fun never ends... LOL. But now that I'm conscious again, time for some more Petersens.
Me too. I've listened to this about a hundred times, and every single time I listen, it gets better! Plus, I'm a total sucker for the Petersens' vocal harmonies, yet there's not one note of vocal harmony in this! Something about this song makes it perfect forJulianne's unique voice, and the musicianship of the rest of the band here is just stellar.
I'm crying, I love the interpretation, so many sing but as a group you lend life and light, I love you all. Thank you so much , I am humbled greatly and still crying. Bless you.
Yes, of all the videos I appreciate Matt's guitar more on this one over all the others. I came to the Petersens after obsessive listening to the You Tube video of Glen Campbell on this song, identified by (terrific guitar break) when doing a You Tube search. The corresponding instrumental break by Matt and Emmett before the final verse corresponds and is done differently but is marvelous.
Julianne Petersen has a voice that gives me goose bumps, she has such a great resonance. I can listen to the song again and again and that as a Linkin Park fan.
I used to tease my mother because Glen Campbell was her favorite singer. It was years later and many a song past that I realized how talented he really was. What do you know, mom was right again. May her and Glen both rest in peace. And once again the Petersens do justice to and old favorite. If I may, may I suggest Houston, by Glen Campbell. I would love to hear your rendition.
*LYRICS - Gentle On My Mind*
------------
It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And keeps you ever gentle on my mind
It’s not clingin' to the rocks
And ivy planted on their columns now that bind me
Or somethin' that somebody said
Because they thought we fit together walkin'
It’s just knowin' that the world will not be cursin' or forgivin'
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you’re movin' on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And for hours you’re just gentle on my mind
Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines
And the junkyards and the highways flow between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother
'Cause she turned and you were gone
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face
And the summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you
Walkin' on the back roads
By the rivers flowin' gentle on my mind
You dip your cup of soup back
From a gurglin' cracklin' cauldron in some train yard
Your beard a rustlin' coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across your face
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can
I pretend to hold you to myself and find
That you're waitin' from the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
Ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind

The Petersens are a family in which music instead of blood flows through their veins. It is simply wonderful to be able to experience them as a musical family. Many thanks for that.
There is more talent in this one video of 4 minutes and 10 seconds, than I have experienced in my whole 66 years of living. What great musicians, they will bring so much love and emotion to the world, happiness and bliss will rule the gatherings! Rare, beautiful, lovely talent and happy, close, loving family...it shows in their music!!
What I like about this is the wholesomeness. Such a reprieve from all the toxicity being heavily pushed.
Got that right a sweet heavenly sound.
You might also enjoy Mat & Savanna Shaw's RUclips performances.
Agreed 100% Shawn... well said.... !
Hear, hear. And kudos.
How can she be so cute, and have so much talent ? Sweet voice. Beautiful group. They are all so positive and peaceful.
The three daughters, three wonderful and splendid voices
Did anyone else notice the cat? 😊
A couple announcements...
1. As we noted in the description, the song was written by John Hartford! The video is titled "Glen Campbell" because our versions sound more similar and he made the song famous. We love and respect both of these amazing artists!
2. (Edit) "Gentle on my Mind" is available now for download!
iTunes: music.apple.com/us/album/gentle-on-my-mind/1486990638?i=1486990640
Spotify: open.spotify.com/track/6W9BUBMF94fLkBJsIT8rRR?si=1XeCPYQrTKqTHataJtA5Ig
3. We've been seeing a lot of your requests for live audio. We loved the idea but did not have the equipment to record live until a couple weeks ago. Our next song will be an original AND a live performance!
As always, thank you all for your continued support! Our family loves making music together and people like you make that possible. - The Petersens
What cat? I was too busy watching how you were playing!
No, I totally missed the cat, going back for a rewatch. That’s a beautiful version of one of my favorite songs.
I only discovered the cat because of this clue. It's a miracle that banjo and violin didn't miss their bet. :-D
That is great news that this will soon be on iTunes and Spotify. The cat just added to this wonderful video. And maybe someone here will know how to start a Petersen Family "Go Fund Me" for some amazing microphones & other sound equipment that you need?! God answers prayers!
Greyyy
So glad I discovered y’all on RUclips a month ago. Some of the most beautiful music out there
Glad you are enjoying it!
Pretty wild... I discovered them about a month ago too! My wife and I have a cabin near Branson and we're going to have to try and catch them next summer!
Yeah, finally a proper suggestion by YT, subscribed after watching(hearing) two clips lol
Matt Atkins Yeah RUclips has opened up a great many talented musicians for me too 💁🏻♀️🇦🇺
I had just listened to two different versions of this great tune before I stumbled across this one, and it brought me to tears. I can imagine that this is exactly the way John Hartford would have wanted to hear it. Love Emmet's dobro.
Every time I listen to this young lady and her band sing and play this song, I feel better, they have helped me feel better about 50 times so far.
I feel better too.
Jeff Orr totally agree
And this young lady even stole the show back in 2011! Here is Julianne back then! ruclips.net/video/gLp-lLfPWZA/видео.html
It's been 3 years since I have found this video, and I still come back to it when I have a bad day.
100%! I'll bet I've been back 30+ times.
Glen would be so proud of your rendition of Gentle On My Mind. You guys are so awesome. I'm a follower for years now.
Just fantastic!❤
Must have watched and listened to this video at least 100 times now and still love it !!❤
Love this rendition. The sweet voice and great instrumentals. Top notch!
One of the happiest songs on RUclips...beautiful..
Bless the Petersens... Master Level! When big brother takes the dobro solo, I always tear up a touch.
He is GOOD! Wow
With every song I hear, my favorite member changes. A new dimension arises with every tune!
Probably Julianne's best performance. Her voice is so pleasant and she comports herself well.
I actually listen to this song with her singing several times a day--on one of their CDs while in the car and then via You Tube here on my computer.
"Wade in the Water" might disagree...
@@italia689 Well, that's another good rendition of that song and which she does so very well.
No matter the sunshine...
...your smiles somehow shine even brighter! 😍
wow! I just stumbled upon this clip in my feed, and discovered the Petersens (where have I been?!). Listening to this rendition of Gentle on my Mind had me in tears. Just beautiful...
A day does not pass without me listening to this epic performance. It always makes me smile! Probably the most attractive family on the Planet
All of your songs bring me to tears - such purity - such honesty - just as it should be. Your family are blessed above and beyond.
David Duff, completely agree
I thought it was just me!
Amen brother!
I also thought it was just me. Hearing them play, and particularly this song, warms my soul.
At the end of the day, I wind down listening to this great rendition, so eloquent, so gentle on my mind.
Thanks for the memories, kids (and mom!)...I believe Glen would have loved to hear your rendition...and maybe he just did! ;)
Jerry Glazener, Capt. USMC, ret...and still picking in Texas!
Captain, first of all thank you for your service to our great country.
I would like to refer you to John Hartford's version of this song if you haven't already heard it. He is the writer of the song and an immensely talented musician.
Blessings to you sir...
Thanks for serving!!
@@andronikostheophilos Read "The Pentagon Papers."
Wow! Just wow! One of the best versions of this wonderful song. So much heart!
Gentle On My Mind has long been a favorite song of mine and one that I wish I could have written. This is one of the best versions I've ever heard.
I love her voice and this family.
@@deanchampion6777 Best wishes, brother.
@@MarkWilsonMSW : I'm feeling much better. But being treated now for some serious liver thing. Ah, the fun never ends... LOL.
But now that I'm conscious again, time for some more Petersens.
I'm a "newbie" and I am blown away!!!!!
I can't help but watching Ellen so off-the-charts proud of her little sister!!! Great Job Julianne!!! your voice is gold.
Liquid gold voice for Julianne, what a combination of the instruments which perfect for the country music, thanks to The Petersens family
Why do Julianne's seeming voice breaks add so much for some reason?...
She sing from her heart when she sing ..she has a golden voices I agree
All three of the girls has golden voices
So beautiful...Julianne...that voice!
This group is so fantastic I will travel halfway across the world to hear them live
I needed this! Watching this country fall is so sad....but there is hope - in people who love the Lord Jesus, like the Petersens.
I'm listening again, just loving it more every time, musically brilliant Julianne perfect.
Bless you.
Can we talk about Matt's superb acoustic playing on this song? The entire intro with just him and Julianne is marvelous.
Holly cow... there’s more than one sister who sings like an angel?
----------> 3
As does the brother
yup 3 of them and their brother holds his own too
Julianne Petersen has a voice that gives me goose bumps, she has such a great resonance. I can listen to the song again and again and that as a Linkin Park fan.
The father can sing 2.
Delightful rendition of the best country song ever written. Wonderful instrumental arrangements and improvisations.
This is music. Real powerful music. Gotta love it. Everyone is so incredibly talented.
Something about that girl. She is electric. So great.
