Scott, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that you don’t hate my truck. I’m quite surprised. Right after Christmas I just bought a brand new 2022 Gladiator Rubicon. With the 8 speed auto and a V6. Also got a 120k mile warranty too.
Hi Scotty! I have a 2014 Ford Fusion Se with a 1.5 Ecoboost engine and was wondering if you could explain why they have so many issues. I had to get my transmission rebuilt, had to replace the water pump, and Fuel Neck Filler etc etc
This is February 2024, and I just bought a 2023 Gladiator for $39K, plus tax and License. They have a lot of them around. Mein has a hardtop, tow package and no spin differentials for traction control.
We were seriously considering a Tacoma, Frontier as well but ended up with a Gladiator Rubicon V6 it does ride really well and handles much better than older generations. But can also handle a LOT on the trails and haul gear easily. Love it ❤ and to hear Scotty likes them makes me feel even better!
That’s what I love about them. So much you can do, and parts are so readily available. Have you done anything yet? In December I bought a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon because their new models were coming in and I got it for $8k under MSRP. So far I’ve done a Tonneau Bed Cover, both front and rear bumpers, and 12,000lb synthetic winch. From the research I’ve done, sounds like you can put 35s on without a lift. I only have 2K miles on my truck, and I’m not into wasting money, so I’m going to wait until these factory tires are good and used before going bigger. But when that time comes, definitely going bigger. Other than that, got a screen protector for the media center, Jeep floor mats, and a 12 volt adapter that sits flush and doesn’t protrude to where you can still close the cover. Oh! And an OLED Nintendo Switch that doesn’t leave my truck, with a Pro Controller and a 12 volt power adapter
My 23 ecodiesel gladiator came with a 100k mile warranty from the factory.... currently on a 3.5in lift with 37in tires.... I get 27-28mpg highway cruise set to 70... 21-23 with mixed driving...

I have a 2 door JL sport with the base V6 with the manual trans and its a great daily driver. takes me anywhere i need to go, the motors ok ,clutch is weird but the trans shifts like butter.
My Nimrod neighbor purchased a used Ram 1500 with the 1st generation Italian V6 diesel, has been nothing but trouble. The only saving grace has been the extended warranty he bought with it.
And remember to change that ZF 8 speed automatic transmission fluid and filter every 30,000 miles, just as the CEO of ZF said. It's best to use Amsoil Fuel-Efficient ATF, instead of the MOPAR ATF for 8 and 9 speed automatic transmissions.
I just got a 9speed cherokee at 130k miles. The car was maintained in AMAZING shape but i doubt the driver ever changed the fluid or filter. Would it be safe to change either now? Or should i just leave it alone since it might rely on the dirt build up now?
@@GulagPapi It shouldn't hurt. Modern automation transmissions even have sensors to even detect if the transmission fluid is very dirty with the engine malfunction light or check engine light. In that case the ATF and/or filter needs to be changed. Scotty Kilmer did do a video on the Check Engine Light on, in which the transmission had an issue by using the scan tool.
@@TimJoseph08031990 yea i just watched a video on a 8/9speed specialist and he confirmed the same thing. Basically the filter doesnt need to be changed because it will wear with the transmission regardless. But a drain and fill of the fluid every 8 years would extend it the best. Luckily i have a 30k mile warranty. So next month im gonna have them cover it😎😎🤔
Hey Scotty. Great review. Driving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JL with the 3.6L V6 and 8 Speed Auto Transmission. It's a great ride and gets me anywhere I want/need to go. 16MPH / 23MPH is spot on if you're driving it like a Jeep. I like mine and it is much nicer than my previous 4 Jeeps.
I have the same model and year. Its great but I did have problems with cams and cylinder heads at only 34k miles Which luckily was all under warranty and basicallygot a new motor out of it.. I just extended the warranty on it though cus I really love it. It looks great lifted and mean looking
I lived in Arizona for well too long. Got a new job in Utah and spent the worst winter in the last 50yrs driving in a 2015 Nissan Juke. Oh yeah, I also work at a higher elevation, too. The Juke was a beast I would make it to work and some trucks didn't want to even try. So I got some bragging rights 😆 I'm looking for something capable of snow driving, and my wife loves to snowboard. I think I may just have to pull the trigger on a 2023 Gladiator.
The ZFHP8 is a great transmission . . . you find it in BMW's and other high end cars . .better than the HP6's which are solid enough but over time the seals between the valve body and the gearbox leak and the gearbox will get rough - although the seals are cheap and not that difficult to replace. Change the transmission fluid every 50K for longevity.
But the 8 speed behind the Jeep 3.6 is a Jeep made transmission, made in the USA under license from ZF. ZF makes the transmission for the 4xe, but not the one behind the 3.6 because ZF could not keep up with production numbers
My truck!!! Just got a Rubicon! With an 8 speed auto and a V6. Would have gotten the eco diesel if they had one. Thankfully I didn’t. I love it. And with my 120k mile warranty, no worries. If I come see you can you remove the auto off for me? I hate it, and I remember you saying that the most stress on an engine is starting it up. I turn it off with the button, but sometimes I forget.
Great review. Jeeps are interesting…people seem to either completely love them, or have such a hate on for them. Yota drivers chirp chirp chirp all day long against Jeeps, it’s really annoying. I’m not brand biased but it’s made me hate Yota.
Just to attest... I have a 2017 Sahara unlimited wrangler and I'm at 237k miles. No issues with engine. The only issue I had over the years were mechanical and the coolant housing cracking. My jeep is manual so there is some truth to was scotty is saying. I'm driving mine into the ground, I love it
I’ve owned lots of Jeeps over the years. Gonna buy my first new wrangler, thought about the 2.0L turbo, heard a lot of bad stuff. Decided to go with the 3.6L V6. I’m not worried about fast or cost of fuel, I want the bulletproof proven reliability because I don’t plan on ever buying another Jeep. After watching this video, I feel completely confident in my decision. Thank you for your honest review Scotty, love you bro!!!!
I was never a fan of jeeps until my parents bought one to tow behind their rv. Was actually very impressed with how reliable that vehicle ended up being. 160k miles when we sold it and the only thing that comes to mind was a leaky axle seal.
I just got one of these as a rental car today. I was quite surprised with it, and I came here to see what Scotty would say about it. I am looking to see whether or not I want to get one too Thanks Scotty!
Nice video, Scotty, thank you. I special ordered a 2021 Jeep Rubicon Gladiator (in 2021 of course) with all the bells and whistles and the standard V6 with the automatic transmission, paid MSRP, no extra dealer markup. It has been a great vehicle, no issues at all, surprisingly smooth and well-mannered handling. I absolutely agree about the idiotic start-stop "feature", what a stupid idea, it reminds me of the "automatic" seat belts that were installed on cars in the late 70's, the government trying to force us to behave! I installed a start-stop eliminator in my Gladiator, problem solved! Amazing that we have to pay extra to get rid of some stupid, lame "feature" that the government tries to jam down our throats!
Hell froze over?!? Oddly, I’ve had relatively few problems with my two Jeeps (used - manuals) in the past. Definitely not quiet though. Thanks for the video.
Definitely not quiet. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, but I don’t know what he’s talking about. My 2022 Gladiator Rubicon is the least quiet vehicle I’ve ever owned. So much road noise.
Go test drive a 70-90’s Jeep or even 97-2006 Jeep Wrangler and you will hear the difference in the sound and road noise right away. The new Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator are so much quieter with either top option.
It is still to be seen but the 2024 model year is providing big noise improvements to the wrangler and the gladiator. Google it, think its alot of sound deadening foams, and thicker glass, thicker weathersealing.
@buckaveli No, but I just had both batteries go out on me, and that was an odd experience. Windshield wipers came on by themselves, and gauges went crazy.
I have a 2020 gladiator and the steering is soooo loose. I don’t know how Scotty didn’t mention that. It’s a solid axel too which makes it even more difficult. I bought mine for $38k but it was just an automatic, max tow and an axillary package. I bought it as a “work” jeep and it tows up to 7,650lbs. But Scotty! You didn’t notice the steering?!
Because this is a 2023 and they solved that issue. I believe that problem has been taken care of since the 2021 models. I just purchased a new 2022 Gladiator Rubicon back in December , and that was one of my primary concerns, until I looked into it. Drives like a dream.
@@NothingButSilicone No…. The issue hasn’t been taken care of. I’m not talking about the aluminum steering box replacement with a tsb steel one. I’m not an amateur, this problem hasn’t been fixed.
There's a service bulletin that provides you a free steering box upgrade through chrysler dealerships. Call jeep customer service with your vin to see if you're affected
I bought one of these at the end of last year and I love it. I watched so many videos trashing this vehicle and all the points made are either no concern to me or simply whining from people that obviously use Wet One's immediately after sex. I remember the old AMC Jeeps and drove them with caution. This vehicle handles very good (almost great) for this type of vehicle and is way better. Keep in mind this is not a Lexus. People who expect refinement of that level - please do not buy this vehicle. Fits my needs and I respect Scotty's opinion and review.
you can turn off the stop start thing with the "A" button under the volume button, but you have to push it every time you start up the truck. I own the Mojave Trim of the vehicle and it is a fun truck to drive.
I have the 2022 Rubicon. Love the hood that the Mojave’s have. I don’t live at the beach or near a desert though. But yeah, half the time I forget to push that button.
Maaaaan, I was so happy to see this review. The last time he commented on the gladiator was 3 years ago and he shat on it, which had me a little worried as I bought a 2023 Mojave last week. I love it and did a good amount of research but I trust this man, so I was concerned, especially considering how much I spent with prices being so high right now…but now he came out with this. Music to my ears. Happy trails and dunes, *jeep wave*
But the Multijet Italian made fiat diesels were among the best diesel engines ever made. Well the engine was co developed with Gm india and Fiat india. I had a Suzuki swift and now a fiat punto with the same 1.3L turbo Multijet diesel makes 75hp and 200nm torque, never had any issues with anything clocked over 200k kms and could run forever. In our country the 1.3L Multijet and the 2.0L Multijet are very popular engines and they are so good that they are still in production and being an old engine it could comply with modern day emissions things too.
You impressed me Scotty on your knowledge of vehicles is down right impressive. Thanks for the content. I myself am an Aviation Tech since the 1985. Your a trooper!
Great video, Scotty! One remark though, ZF is a German company. The shortening ZF means Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen. The city of Friedrichhafen is located near the Bodensee in the southern part of Germany. ZF operates globally nowadays but the headquarters is still located in Friedrichshafen 😏
A company out of West Virginia sells an Auto Start/Stop Eliminator for $100. I put one on my Wrangler Willys. It throws no codes, doesn't affect the warranty, and took about 10 minutes to install!
Scotty my neighbor has one of these only about 2-4 yrs old and along all the wheel wheels where that cover is is to keep the mud kicking up along wheel wheels are starting to rust badly!! It's looks awesome he got a snorkel and everything!! In another 2-3yrs daylight will be showing through maybe even a year🤷♂️😮💨
The new 2.0L Turbo is even better than the 3.6! I have it on a 2-Door Rubicon Wrangler (EU Spec), and it drives super smooth; tons of acceleration and pulling power with even better MPG than the 3.6!
I JUST bought a 2016 cherokee that has a ZAF 9 speed transmission. I only did it because i hear zaf makes the same trans for toyota and honda minivans, and that week scotty made a video talking about how in 2016 fiat didnt ruin jeep yet. But now it feels AMAZING knowing that he’s also backing the same tranny here🤣🤣
This gladiator has an 8 speed. The cherokee has a 9 speed. Two different transmissions but both made by ZF. The 9 speed is for front wheel drive vehicles. The 8 speed is for rear drive vehicles. As someone who owns both, the 8 speed is much smoother and shifts much quicker. (21 ram 2500 with 6.4). The zf9 isn't bad though imo (2019 cherokee with 2.0). The zf9 has a bad reputation due to poor performance in earlier versions of it. I cannot speak on the reliability of the zf9 yet.
@@Jay-ns5ub fast forward and it died after 170k miles. Come to find out when I bought it, the OG owner got EVERYTHING replaced brand new, but Skimped out on a transmission filter change. I got a good 30k miles out of her before she died Though
@@GulagPapi the ZF9 has to be dropped from the vehicle and opened up in order to change the Trans filter. The fluid is easy to do a drain and fill though. There is a built In drain plug. Bummer yours died. I wonder if the original owner ever changed the Trans fluid on it. Jeep claims the trans fluid is a "lifetime" fluid. To them, "lifetime" probably means warranty period. I change mine every 50k despite what jeep recommends.
What about the recall on the Gladiator 6-speed transmissions with the catastrophic exploding clutches/pressure plates that overheat, explode, and rake out your legs as the shrapnel exits the confines of the bell housing!!!! 😡
the problem with those diesels is, they were designed for Europe and are used extensively there with few problems. Europe doesn't require the EGR and DEF nonsense that the USA mandates, so those engines have to be adapted to US spec, and they can't run with all that extra heat that the emissions crap creates. As for the Jeep, I'd like to see them come out with a two-door version with a bigger bed, rather like their old J10 pickup.
One bad thing about the chrysler engines is plastic coolant parts. I've seen several engines blow do to overheating because these plastic parts fail. I'd recommend changing plastic thermostat housings every 50k miles or 5 years. Which is a good time to do a flush anyway. Just my 2 cents worth.
Scotty!! You got me again lol I see that Sad thumbnail and I think your dead or something. I'm kinda new to your channel and I'm loving every moment of it, don't stop anytime soon you've inspired me to start fixing my car and my family's car. Thank you!
There may be a push button to disable start stop. Chrysler has made millions of V6 engines. Perfected like the ZF-8 Speed Auto. I'm guessing that the transfer case lever is actually electronic solenoid actuated but for asthetics the designers chose a stalk. Nice Jeep. But at $45,000 my driveway won't have one until it's a decade old.
i think something that size should have a small v8 . not a big fan of the pentastar 6 seems like it would like lack end torque but it does have a 6 speed but don't pull with it.
Scotty I get better fuel economy in my 2019 challenger RT. My wife and I just went to Florida running about 80 with me playing and I still got 19 plus MPG.. I think the 5.7 would be a better choice for this vehicle. Less taxing on the motor vs a smaller 6 cylinder unless Stallantis wants to make an inline
Jeep is giving large discounts now for Gladiator - they are not selling well. They are discounting from the MSRP. Probably a good buy if you want one. Short bed is due to manageable off-road departure angle. Good Review. I had a Wrangler for 5 years and traded it for a Grand Cherokee. Both are excellent vehicles IMO.
@@Gio-m 15% off from Jeep on 2023s, and most dealers are adding significantly to that. In all honesty, this is just removing the greedy attempt by Jeep to gouge the market, and brings them down to a more competetive level.

I parked next to one of these recently & wanted to know more about it, as they are cool looking. *Thanks* Scotty, ya read my mind.😲😲😲
They are cool. We love both our Gladiator, and Wrangler. No regrets.
Throw your hat in... Scotty for President 2024. His platform is no more garbage vehicles. A Toyota for everyone...🙂

Just to attest... I have a 2017 Sahara unlimited wrangler and I'm at 237k miles. No issues with engine. The only issue I had over the years were mechanical and the coolant housing cracking.
My jeep is manual so there is some truth to was scotty is saying. I'm driving mine into the ground, I love it
I have a 2022 jeep gladiator Rubicon great vehicle love it.
Dealers have huge inventories of 2023 Gladiators. $8-10k+ off MSRP.
“It idles so quietly….oh wait, the car turned the engine OFF!” LOL
I’ve had my 2020 JT Rubicon and the truck has been reliable. Bought it new November 2019.
I just bought one today! So excited to use it more!
Love you and the work you do Scotty! You’ve saved me so much time and money!
Amazing that we have to pay extra to get rid of some stupid, lame "feature" that the government tries to jam down our throats!
bmw uses ZF transmissions a long time now, very reliable. my E90 has 330k km already and no problems. every 60k km oil change
the 8 speed for Jeep is actually made by FCA under license by ZF.
I just bought a V6 2021 gladiator with 14,000 miles last week.
@@Dwq47 Have you had yours replaced with the steel steering box?
There's a service bulletin that provides you a free steering box upgrade through chrysler dealerships. Call jeep customer service with your vin to see if you're affected
@@NothingButSiliconewell i cant speak for older models but my 2023 is loose
@@JimmyDShea I did the exact same thing. Bought the Mojave 3 days ago. Came from a Ram. Really wanted the door off experience. Love the Mojave!
I decommissioned my 2013 Hyundai Veloster for a 2023 Mojave Gladiator (standard), and I absolutely love it.
I disabled the start/stop feature and removed and bypassed the worthless auxiliary battery. It runs great. (2021 Gladiator, 6 speed manual)
Scotty wish. You can do a review on a mahindra roxor with a ecu reflash.....
I got that same transmission on my 2018 jeep grand Cherokee good transmission 👍🏿
My gen 3 ecodiesel in my 2022 ram is fantastic
No issues at 20k miles 29 mpg average on highway
I was really effy with the 8 speed auto at first but once I drove one that went right out the window. It drives great and it avg 22 mpg😮
The Gladiator rocks. Even in its most stock offering. It'll take you anywhere you want to go.
Thanks Wikipedia
THANK YOU SCOTTY! I'm going to buy one with the Italian Diesel engine.
HAHAHA!!!!
Always do the opposite of Scotty says
Scotty Italians are capable of building good diesels. They used to build a 1,9 diesel that was indestructible.
In another 2-3yrs daylight will be showing through maybe even a year🤷♂️😮💨
They look good, but I've been a lot of rotted out not very old Jeeps, and anything else made by Chrysler.
Hello Scotty! Always learn a lot from your car reviews thanks👍
1:31- instead of rusting, now they will be cracking haha 😆.
Don't look now, but there's a guy in your back seat. (he was in the yard, earlier) YIKES!
Enjoyed the humour! Just got a 2023 Jeep Gladiator.
Afternoon from Houston Scotty.
Thanks as as always Scotty!! Hope yer having sum well earned fun!!
The new 2.0L Turbo is even better than the 3.6! I have it on a 2-Door Rubicon Wrangler (EU Spec), and it drives super smooth; tons of acceleration and pulling power with even better MPG than the 3.6!
I bought a Willy’s 2 door with the 2.0. It’s been good so far. Hopefully it will hold up.
The fuel savings is negated when you have to fill up with premium. I will say that the 2.0 is much more responsive to throttle input though.
@@kyleshutic9279you do NOT need premium with the 2.0
Lol won't last
Scotty for president..
Much love from Mauritius..
Come to find out when I bought it, the OG owner got EVERYTHING replaced brand new, but
Skimped out on a transmission filter change. I got a good 30k miles out of her before she died
Though
@@GulagPapi the ZF9 has to be dropped from the vehicle and opened up in order to change the Trans filter. The fluid is easy to do a drain and fill though. There is a built In drain plug. Bummer yours died. I wonder if the original owner ever changed the Trans fluid on it. Jeep claims the trans fluid is a "lifetime" fluid. To them, "lifetime" probably means warranty period. I change mine every 50k despite what jeep recommends.
His voice is really excited! 🙌 Keep it up! love your videos
He’s on crack
What about the recall on the Gladiator 6-speed transmissions with the catastrophic exploding clutches/pressure plates that overheat, explode, and rake out your legs as the shrapnel exits the confines of the bell housing!!!! 😡
I very much appreciate your knowledge however lately your way to repetitive but you are one of a kind. Stay safe and well enjoy your life.
Rented from Enterprise because he didn't want to be arrested by Hertz....ha ha ha ha Good one Scotty!
Always appreciate the great info!
I work at a jeep , ford, GM supplier so keep buying those 8 and 9 speed transmissions we make seals for ...I just bought a new malibu
I got a 21 rav 4 with 30000 miles on it and dore is rusting bad with no damage fun stuff
the problem with those diesels is, they were designed for Europe and are used extensively there with few problems.
Thank you!
The best is when you can fix them yourself. I do the oil changes in my driveway it takes me less than 20 min
I get 23 highway easy with 33's. Also it's easy to disable the start/stop feature.
My son bought this exact same vehicle with the six cylinder gasoline engine, motor had to be replaced at 80,000 miles
At least the transmission won't fail 😆

My first car in 1986 was a CJ-7. An itch I’ve always wanted to scratch again. If Scotty likes it, a Gladiator might be on my list!
Had an 83’ cj and bought a willy’s edition gladiator in june of 2021. No regrets!
I remember in the early 80s Jeep made a pickup called the Golden Eagle
Comanche pickup too?
I love my Gladiator. 6 speed stick.
Short bed trucks basically have "convertible trunks".
Nope, cable linkage.
i think something that size should have a small v8 .
not a big fan of the pentastar 6 seems like it would like lack end torque but it does have a 6 speed but don't pull with it.
Yeeess, Scotty just said the manual car like Miata or Jeep, can last a long time. And they can be reliable, too.
Just bought a 6pd M/T majove and that was music to my ears
Scotty I get better fuel economy in my 2019 challenger RT. My wife and I just went to Florida running about 80 with me playing and I still got 19 plus MPG..
I think the 5.7 would be a better choice for this vehicle. Less taxing on the motor vs a smaller 6 cylinder unless Stallantis wants to make an inline
I know 4 people with diesel no problems 29 highway 26 normally
Scotty, there's a button right below the infotainment screen that turns the stop-start "feature" off...only until you restart the car.
I hate that. I really wish you could really turn it off. Half the time I forget after starting it.
Wow really? Is this nationwide or only state-specific?
@@Gio-m 15% off from Jeep on 2023s, and most dealers are adding significantly to that. In all honesty, this is just removing the greedy attempt by Jeep to gouge the market, and brings them down to a more competetive level.

Why did jeep use an Italian diesel, instead of the Cummins diesel?
ZF trans are infact great, they a built by Arnold
I probably won't ever get a newer Jeep. My 05 TJ had very few electronics to fail. 4.0 straight 6 with a 6-speed manual...
The 3.6L V6 is the only option now available in Australia. Unreliable means death in the outback.
Unreliable like the ford ranger 3.2, 2.0, 6 and 10 speed trans and rear diff, can't be fixed, need replacement
Thank you, Scotty!
You better give a good review Scotty bc I just bought one😅 Thanks Scotty I m happier now with my gladiator 👍
