Scotty I own a 2018 Jeep gc limited 3.0 litre diesel it’s done 105000 kms now and I get 1000 kilometres to a tank , being a retired Landrover mechanic I find this car brilliant 👌 anything made in the Us always is 👍 I’m over the water in Australia we love the Jeep brand now so much better than in 2010 👌I hope one day you’ll come here 🙏Cheers

Hey Scotty, I live in the Newport, RI area, and I've got a Nissan Sentra 05 with a broken spark plug with the threading still threaded into the cylinder. Now I heard of the easy-out tool, and I was going to use one, but I bought the wrong easy-out and got it stuck in the threading. Now I am at a wall and need help. I really enjoy my car and would like to keep using it until I absolutely need a new one. What should I do because no mechanic will look at it for me?

The median US salary is $56,000. Keep that in mind when considering the cost of any vehicle. Also, a good rule of thumb, as per Dave Ramsey, is never buy a vehicle worth more than half your annual salary. So your average American should never buy a vehicle that costs more than $28,000. And if everyone actually took that advice to heart, prices would start dropping.

I’ve thought about this and you maybe correct in a way but it’s fine to buy a vehicle that is worth as much as a full year salary because that’s why payment plans exist. If you love the vehicle, who cares, that’s what leases are for, you can always give it up at any point.

I have never even bought a new vehicle. I am 49 years old and only buy used. I also only spend 50% or less of my annual salary on said vehicles. Dave Ramsey knows how to be responsible with money and what is and should be important to help us live debt free
@@motorcyclemichael2182 Nothing wrong with buying a new car. I have bought three new cars. Two of them are in my driveway. I see my neighbors changing their used cars every five years. I drive my new car for 15 years. It’s about total cost of ownership per year over time, not new or used.
At a time when good jobs are almost impossible to find, $80,000 for a Jeep is just plain nuts!

The top-of-the-line Bronco is the same price. And there are more jobs than people to fill them right now so I don't know what dream world you're living in maybe you should get more qualified

To be fair, I don't think he ever had a problem with the Wranglers or the older ones.
Now the newer ones that are basically re-skinned Fiats, well...
It's hard to go wrong with the 392 Hemi and ZF 8-speed. It's a fantastic combo!
I always liked the idea of these, the only thing that sucks is the price tag
And the repair bill... the gas cost..burning oil.... electrical gremlins.... envelope leaks.... etc etc. ;) respectfully
If u want one, i suggest u buy an older one. I just bought a manual 2003 Sahara Sport with all of the options for very cheap. i can guarantee its almost as fun as the newer ones. im only 19 so i dont need anything super nice😂 but im buying a 5.0 f150 next week for more rigorous situations. i would suggest u do something similar because im not paying any more than $25k for both vehicles and theyll serve me good for years and years.

Went in to my Mitsubishi dealer 3 years ago "cheapest on the lot, new". Gave me a great deal on a leftover '19 Sport, 5 spd manual.
I could have easily afforded the most expensive, no thanks.

I have a 2010 JKU; I love it, and it's easy to maintain. The whole idea with a Wrangler is to perform easy maintenance because you have to have the capability to fix it yourself! They're getting more electronics and more complex. It's becoming too much to handle for an average person.
My 2015 Rubicon is 100 times better then the 91 YJ and the 97 TJ we had. Definitely they figured something out when they made the JK.
Newer Jeeps are terrible. Nothing but problems. They haven't made a good Jeep since the AMC built 4.0 inline 6 and the Aisin 4 speed (AW4) transmission went away. That combo is one of the 3 most reliable engine/transmission combos ever built.
TJs with the inline 6 were the last reliable actual Jeep that they made…. JKs JLs.. 🚮 🗑️
@@offthewallsurfer1 Truth! The last new Jeep I purchased was the 2006 Wrangler sport. I bought it just as the 2007s came out and I saw that 2006 would be the last year of the real Jeeps. It was stickered at $30K and I got it for $21,500 due to my employer discount. I can't imagine paying 80K for anything "Jeep" is producing these days.
I've seen it worse than that. I've seen them selling for $95K. These seem to be the new "status" symbol for people who have money.
It really is just that now. The ultra rich or the fools who easily part with their money can have it.

Both the Jeep Wrangler 392 and Ford Bronco Raptor are gas-guzzling Vanity Vehicles, plain & simple. They have no useful/practical application either on the hwy or trail. They're just "look at me" vehicles for "adult" adolescents.

definitely, they up sale the engine way too much. everything else equal the v8 and trans upgrade from 8hp50 to 8hp75 cost 25k extra.

Jeep knocked the JL out of the park. The ZF 8 speed is fantastic, I bought a JL the first year. I’m to almost 90k and 4 of us take it on a 1200 mile one way trip every year. Another thing that has consistently amazed me is the quality of the soft top, no leaks, looks brand new, and I have never parked it in a garage. Oh, and built in Toledo, Oh.
Love it! What this 392 Jeep gives is smiles per gallon. The evidence: Scotty behind the wheel of this Wrangler.

Land cruisers were always expensive. At least in the us. But unlike wrangler, they’re worth the money. They’re overbuilt with the highest quality.
@@ryanwashere21 We had a Land Cruiser 80 with 160k miles that we gave to my stepson last year. It still has a lot of miles left but it takes a lot of gas.
I haven't had good luck with Chrysler Corporation vehicles over the years so I would pass on a Jeep unless it had the 4.0 straight six and a manual transmission.
Why? My 97 straight 6 burned its oil up.
I've never seen you so excited about an engine before! My smaller eagle hemi is sedate most of the time but can cause tingling when I put my foot into it.

I am glad Jeeps are still made in my hometown of Toledo, OH since the beginning. I wish I could have a 392 Wrangler, but I am happy with my 2021 Jeep Gladiator! I love my Jeep!

Scotty, that's not a Jeep, that's a four wheel drive Fiat. I have a 1995 Wrangler, I paid about $15,000 when I bought it new. It's a 6 cylinder (they also made a 4 that year) and now has 369,000 miles on it. I had a new engine/transmission put in at 325,000, due to wear and the rear seal was leaking. Roll up windows and the old leaf spring suspension. Gets 19 mpg on the highway! I've kept it up, but it's has been the best vehicle I've ever owned and many parts like the starter are original after 28 years. Sure, the suspension is a little stiff but it's a Jeep!
The price has gone up about $1000 every year since. Gotta say that they hold value for what it is. I miss roll up windows.
Straight six engines last the longest because they are inherently perfectly balanced

Bought a '21 Wrangler Unlimited Altitude Sport for my wife. We ordered it well equipped new and got it for $45k. Has the Turbo 4. Sure, it doesn't have V8 power but it still very responsive. Gets mid 20s gas mileage as well. It is a really fun vehicle to drive around town in as well as go off road with.

@@charlessmith3492 EPA rating is already 22 combined. My wife usually gets 1-2 above that with the driving she does (mixed but some moderate highway included). I would never have believed it prior to owning it. I think the Altitude is a little lighter than some other models (Rubicon, Sahara) which helps. Plus, the 2.0 l engine is a pretty small displacement, efficient engine if you don't regularly test the turbo.
I rented a Wrangler Sahara with the 2.0L in Colorado and was super impressed with the engine and was more impressed with the 28mpg I got driving in the mountains. I ended up buying a Rubicon with the 2.0L. I’ve been getting 22 combined and 24 on the interstate. Fantastic engine and plenty of pep. Yes it does sound like a weed whacker but who cares.
That Italian turbo is junk.

I have V8 4Runner that I plan to keep forever. I've never really needed the power, but I just love the sound and feel.
I like the idea of an SUV that has the back side top convertable for use like a truck. Very few options exist, those that do are expensive as hell, jeeps being one of them.

Yeah.. and likely replace the transmission after 80k miles. Jeeps are fun but are notoriously problematic closer to 100k miles.

Toledo Ohio's finest. And yeah, $80k is steep, but theres actually a waiting list for those. The plant here has two shifts making the Wrangler and both can crank out over 500 a shift when everything runs good, but still only make maybe one or two of those a shift.

I'll keep my all original 1956 CJ-5 instead. I paid $2400 for it and the 135ci L-head four-cylinder still runs as smooth as silk.

Hemi tick coming to a jeep near you. Also it's 480ftlbs of tq getting multiplied by gears going through dana 44s.
If you're getting the Rubicon, I recommend going for the diesel engine. They'll get over 20 mpg on the highway, which is still nothing to write home about obviously but compared to the gas version you'll save a lot of money.

I just got my 2023 wrangler unlimited rubicon with and eco diesel avg mpg 25 just amazing and tons of torque.
I don't care how smooth it rides or its off road capabilities. 80K for a Jeep is ridiculous.

These things will appreciate like crazy, only wrangler with the 6.4 that CDJR is killing off, not a dumb purchase at all
Had Jeeps going back to the 1983 CJ-7 !! Still have my 2004 TJ Rubicon, but really enjoy driving the new JLUR 392XR both on and off-road. Like Scotty says, ZF builds a world class transmission. It drives almost as good as my Suburban on the hi-way, and that's impressive. The exhaust sounds as good as any muscle car I've ever heard, and I still have my '72 Firebird Formula 455 (now a 532) that I bought new !! Just don't talk about mileage! lolol Probably the last V8 I'll ever buy, but I love it !!!
And you can get factory lifts and off-road setups on the 392 that will drive the MSRP north of $130K. No kidding.
A friend who had a Jeep told me they have all kinds of problems. This was for like the 2014 model year or something like that. I hope for $80,000, this thing runs perfect and has long-term durability.

Owned a 2014 JK, got one of these and it’s a night and day experience. Pricey but definitely fun, my other daily is an M5 and once you get a V8 it’s hard to go back. We keep a 4 banger Hyundai for when we need to chill out

Hmmm… It’s definitely cooler. But try a Tesla Model X, they are sick dude. As a daily driver EV cars are actually dope as long as you can charge from home. Unfortunately we can’t all do that or afford them. Take a Model X for a test drive, you’ll pee your pants they really are sick.
Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of real engines and muscle cars etc. But electric cars try one sometime, you won’t believe it some of them are nuts.

The sticker price is outrageous. But Jeeps really have serious flair, and that’s saying a lot in that heinous automotive timeline of ours made of “greige”, vanilla crossovers. That Rubicon looks (and sounds!) mighty cool inside and out.

Have you ever noticed every time Scotty gets to hear the rumble of a V8 he gets giddy as a schoolgirl.
I purchased a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon Farout with the Diesel engine. It’s amazing! Not quite as fast as the 392 but almost the same amount of torque. It’s fast! Plus it gets 25 mpg
I love my Ford Fiesta. I have 161,000 ish miles in it. Paid off thanks to Dave Ramsey great advice. I take care of my car & I’ve never had a bad problem with it. It’s had a few issues but nothing to bad or to expensive.
They have improved since Stellantis took over. My 09 was always in the shop my 16 has only had to have a new thermostat and thermostat housing. It has more power handles and rides better and a little better off road.

There are two new Rubicons sitting at one of my customers body shops right now... Both are total losses due to relative minor rear end hits that appeared to be simple "rear bumper jobs". One totaled due to unrepairable frame damage, the other needed a whole new tub. If you own one... do not get rear ended!
well , if you get rear ended, atleast you'll get the insurance money from the other people..and know not to buy another on of these for that much.. most of these new cars and trucks aren't made like they used be
@@richsweeney1115 - Guess what that results in? Everybody insurance go up no matter what you drive! Insurance companies never lose, just like banks. No modern vehicle should total out due to a 5-10 mph rear end collision. Frontal, side and rollover impact protection is rated and mandated, but not rear enders!

A lot of the jeep did look beefed up. But when your friend puts on a full size spare -- it appeared they didn't beef up the rear door to hold that spare. That will be an upgrade to get one that ties into the rear bumper?

I guess this is one reason why the dealership is offering me more money for my Rubicon than I paid for it. It funny, my wife hated my old Jeeps, but the newer ones ride a lot better. You still feel the bumps, just not as bad.
Very nice. I think this makes far more sense than say a G wagon for instance. However 80k is painful.

I had a 69 Dodge Dart that had 96,000 miles with the slant 6 in it. At the time I also had a 1984 Chevy pickup with the strait 6 as well. That slant 6 ran smoother than my Chevy's strait 6. LOL
The 6.4L Hemi makes the prices up bigtime. The 3.6 V6 Rubicon has on which are very very great but about $20,000 less
i’m guessing you can get the 392 in a charger or challenger for way less money

Two things:
1. Those "off road goodies" next to the swaybar-disconnect buttons, are the front and rear diff-lock switches. (Its off-road party piece, and the Rubicon also have them. Lesser spec Wranglers have a less effective limit slip diff innthe rear only)
2. Its governor is at 99mph, since many customers would have their Wranglers fitted with mud-terrain tyres, and mud-tyres are rated for 100mph only. (The all-terrains as fitted to the car in the video, are rated for 112mph / 180kmh)
Don’t forget the Mohave has a rear locker only
@@joshmyers8399 Thanks! I am not familiar with the Mohave spec, since we in South Africa only get the Wrangler V6 in Sport and Rubicon trims. (And 90% of the buyers go for the Rubicon - nobody wants the compromised Sport)

Scotty has always said that he likes old jeeps that were made in the USA. It’s when fiat (Stellantis) took over production that problems with quality began. I own a 2019 jeep Cherokee latitude and it is a fantastic vehicle. It’s definitely not a defective product

Scotty, I paid $24K for my ‘01 F150 Supercrew with 4.6… and, it just passed smog, again. 179384 original miles. Original owner, no carfax….never wrecked…still get 17mpg around town 21 on the freeway, cylinder management….
No kidding about the roads in RI, I live here and practically had to rebuild my front end of my truck due to the potholes. That Jeep is nice but for that price I would be afraid to go off road with it.
