Rip feels like a cool variation of Wylie Duke. Wylie is better if you can tap and untap him over and over, but Rip pays you off way more if you tap her once in a turn. Imo you basically take out all the untap cards from your Wylie deck and replace them with ways to buff Rip, and there you go.
I've been playing Boros blink for a long time. Right now it's Alena and Livio. The Jolly Balloon Man is what I've been waiting for out of a commander for a long time. Not the perfect Commander for Boros blink, but man the archetype is in a great place
Richard is always like "you can't play that everyone is just gonna kill you" and also "you shouldn't really play anything until the turn you can win" So how are people gonna kill you then :D I don't think 0/2 plants are enough
Except that you have to pay the mana cost for the exiled card. Norin is the ultimate bad card and if you build even a semi-functional deck around it I salute you
Show me on the doll where the enchantment decks hurt you. The last time they did an enchantress precon was Wilds of Eldraine and it was aura based. The only other time that I can remember was Commander Masters and it was constellation / enchantment creatures. Bello is technically an enchantment deck, but I would argue it's doing something very different. This is the first precon that is a fairly normal enchantress deck and can use all enchantments rather than specific types of enchantments or set-specific enchantment archetypes.
Not really. There has been 4 different enchantment based precons you didn't mencioned. 2 aura based Dogmet and Galea (to be fair half enchantments half equipment) and 2 enchantresses (Daxos andEstrid). Does this justify Tomer's apathy towards the achetype? Idc excitement is a personal thing but there are other equally popular precon archetypes that don't get this reaction from him like tokens, sacrifice, graveyard, landfall etc.
Also the "70% of the cards are gonna be generic enchantress stuff" argument is flawed because most of those cards are green or selesnya so I dont think its fair to say that about Aminatou or even Erriete from WoE (another non green enchantress commander) since she cared about auras specifically and she also wanted you to be casting stuff like pacify effects on creatures which isnt your typical enchantress stuff, also I think Aminatou is a really cool twist on enchanterss that wants you to basically play draw go control.
I was looking for this comment! There have been a lot of enchantment decks but they are all doing something relatively different. Enchantment value, enchantment Voltron, enchantment go wide, enchantment recursion and ETB’s. Then even non pre con legendaries that care about enchantments are doing something different like playing politically or theft. We’ve had so many +1 / +1 counters decks and legendaries and they all do the same thing and want the same cards. I would much rather have another unique feeling enchantment deck than another deck that feels like a worse Shalai and Hallar
She just seems boring to me. She's an Atraxa that cares about enchantments instead. Same problem where if you include any blink or copies she's already broken. It's great to be able to build a commander with less restrictions but this feels like an Ur-Dragon situation to me where she's always the correct choice for enchantments since she's too flexible. Imagine if Jodah just said "creature" instead of "legendary spell". That's this card.
@@ThePancaked1 That’s only Marina though, Aminatou is a completely different story. Also with Marina you still have to cast all of those enchantments. They don’t go on to the battlefield like Ur-Dragon. This also can put you at a disadvantage if someone is playing more control because they see what cards you just put in your hand. If you put too many powerful enchantments in your hand this way, similar to Ur-Dragon players, you’re just going to get hated off the board. She also doesn’t have eminence or buff the board and cascade like the ones you mentioned, and like Atraxa doesn’t have the stat line to backup the ability. Marina won’t be the go-to enchantress
I am soooooooo excited for Arabella. I really like commanders that reward you for playing small utility creatures. Plus, she is like a mini-Alibou which is neat. Also excited for precon-Zimone, I just wish she was Sultai. I've been wanting to build a deck for a while that cheats one-shot creatures into play face down (like Phage and Blightsteel) and then make my opponents guess which random 2/2 they should block. I can still add Zimone to the 99 of a Kadeena list I have brewing, but she would've been the perfect commander for that strategy.
Happy to see an opinion on Winter that isn’t so doom and gloom. I’m super excited to build him, getting to reanimate a Portal to Phyrexia is going to feel crazy.
There is also some old red enchantments that decides attacks and blocks for Norin so should be possible to do something. Like Invasion plans. Could be a fun deck to put together honestly.
I loop my reanimations all the time so yes finality and anything else that exiles is the worst for my yard decks xD I'll bring the same thing back like 20 times in a game because it is funny.
Aminatou also has a loop in the precon. If you have secret arcade on the field and you play ondu spiritdancer you can copy ondu ininitely. Then you can pair this with several constellations effects as payoff. One of those effects ping you opponents for 1
Great list, but the one I would change is Marina Vendrell from C -> A (Great in the Commander Zone) I think you focused too much on the tap ability with the rooms & not enough on her ETB effect (When she ETB's look at the top 7 cards, put Enchantments into your hand & the bottom the rest). Focus on making her a Engine piece, cast her search top 7, then blink her & search another top 7 rinse & repeat. The tap ability isn't important (but decent if you play a few rooms in your deck).
I get that you are bored with enchantress Tomer but I think that it is a good thing that popular archetypes get precons semi often. Precons usually are only available for 1-2 years at a reasonable price so getting new precons maintains the ability for new players to start with particular archetype and maintain archetype staple cards at a reasonable price. Also with at least 4 precons per every set we can afford some repetition in theme.
@@eebbaa5560 yup, when the box art was released showing aminatou and it was called miracle worker I was excited for a new esper commander to build around since I don't have one yet. Then when the actual card got released I was disappointed because I personally don't need/want a new enchantment deck. no hate on anyone that buys or builds her she was just too similar to my anikthea deck.
I think it would be fun to build Rendmaw in several narrow but specific archetypes. Like going golgari enchantress and playing as many enchantment creatures as possible or the one I think would be fun to force, some sort of Golgari affinity deck with as many artifact creatures as possible. He seems actually so open ended.
Seen a lot of pays to play Jolly Balloon Man (JBM) already. Even seen someone show a full modular deck so copy a modular out, let it die and move the +1+1 counters to another creature and keep doing that till you got a massive creature. Not only that but most modulars are a 0/0 so making them a 1/1 flier is actually a plus and can be useful with an ozalith or other similar counter buffing effects.
You'll need a way to activate The Jolly Balloon Man at instant speed, like Thousand-Year Elixir. Otherwise pairing him with Aurelia doesn't work so well, since her ability grants combat after combat, no main phase, and TJBM can only be activated at sorcery speed.
I'm going to make a Kianne SorceryFlash deck, and maybe a Marina Grixis Enchantress deck, only using those colors for spells and some blink to draw the cards. And as a side note Gen is a graveyard enchantress in Mardu colors too 💫
Arabella is def hype I have a Zurzoth cavalcade deck that never really took off and I'm thinking of rebuilding it with Arabella. Also looking forward to the golgari precon with winter and rendmaw
Sans-green enchantress! Woah there! Risking playing a deck that makes a decision! The 5c room commander is probably the most boring thing they could have printed. Frame 1, they print a "room commander" and just hand the build to you. This era of design is half interesting stuff they finally have the confidence to print and half "do x to do y, do enough y and z happens." Snoozefest. The hate for exile and finality counters is being forced to make a decision. Having to think ahead about what the game is actually going to look like and reanimating specific threats, rather than just recurring the biggest idiot you can every turn, turn after turn, 40 times in a row.
every 5c commander is like this lol. they all just build a deck for you it’s so boring. as for your other point, i think graveyard hate is actually too easy to come by nowadays and all the finality counter stuff is just making reanimator a worse archetype imo. it’s already pretty easy to play around without all your cards getting exiled when they die.
Rendmaw is my 1st golgari deck. Feels both unique for that combinarion while also having a cool gameplan (summon the swarm for everyone to peck each other to death) to make it worth building, rather than the typical aristocrats/yard nonsense.
I've been messing around with the precon Zimone and while she's a good combo commander she makes an excellent sneak attack commander by using top deck manipulation and any type of fetch lands to drop haymakers turn after turn
The super powerful ones like kona and lord of pain are SOOOOO boring and the play patterns are gonna be lame and yawn inducing like the first game you play them. Way prefer stuff like arabella. Mindskinner is the coolest commander in the entire set BY FAR. So unique with how it does what it does
Suprised you didn't put norin as great in the 99. He's great in any deck based around attack triggers. You don't have to do any crazy combos, he just let's you attack without dying basically.
Behind you on the enchantress thing. I can hardly play mono-red in the recent years due to the amount of must remove enchantment decks and red still having no reliable enchantment removal.
Altanak is indeed great in reanimator style! But he can be a great budget mono green beatdown commander, 7mana 9/9 trample is very nice. I thought you were the budget master but i guess you didnt see the vision this time. Rather see someone play this than another thrun
Norin doesn't look that weak to me. What if you just fill your deck with cheap creatures that ETB for value. Like the ones that create a treasure token. If people block, you get value, if they don't they take damage. I bet many people would rather take 2-3 damage than give you value, but you would need some finisher for when they actually start blocking for their life. Also isn't Tyvar just a scuffed Zopandrel? I guess if you go wide and have one really tall creature he's better but.. Zopandrel

I count 5: this one, the 2 last year, the Daxos precon, and the Estrid precon. I can only think of Arm for Battle precon for equipment? Seems pretty clear that one specific archetype has too much spotlight, I mean 3 in 2 years is particularly egregious imo

how does the "winter, misanthropic guide" hand size effect stack w no hand size effects opponent's may have? i assume their effect overwrites it so this is jus bad at any table playing reliquary tower
@eebbaa5560 for one thing, needlessly rude. for another, if you're drawing a lot of cards (everyone is lol) it's nice to have a way to keep those cards that's hard to remove
@@x9nn reliquary tower is a dead card in pretty much every deck. if you consistently have more than seven cards in your hand and you’re not finding ways to progress the game state in any way by playing those cards, then you’re either a bad player, a bad deckbuilder, or both. ironically, stuffing your deck full of bad cards like reliquary tower is a surefire way of making sure that this happens to you.

Not the perfect Commander for Boros blink, but man the archetype is in a great place
i hope this thumbnail is clickbait and you don’t actually think that the precon valgavoth is good and that jolly balloon man is mid
Richard is always like "you can't play that everyone is just gonna kill you" and also "you shouldn't really play anything until the turn you can win"
So how are people gonna kill you then :D I don't think 0/2 plants are enough
I think with the right creatures norrin could put opponents in a sortof "damned if you do, damned if you dont" position on blocking
Except that you have to pay the mana cost for the exiled card. Norin is the ultimate bad card and if you build even a semi-functional deck around it I salute you
@@ryanmac895 just play creatures that are both good as attackers and have entering or casting triggers that make the mana investment worth it, silly
@@superdimentiobrolyX lol and by turn 12 you may have something!
The Mindskinner finally makes Mind Bomb good!!!! This is huge news!!!
Swarmweaver seems like a good commander because it combines two somewhat anemic tribes and makes a super tribal deck!
The Mindskinner looks awesome, but is so easy to keep off of the field 😭
I am soooooooo excited for Arabella. I really like commanders that reward you for playing small utility creatures. Plus, she is like a mini-Alibou which is neat. Also excited for precon-Zimone, I just wish she was Sultai. I've been wanting to build a deck for a while that cheats one-shot creatures into play face down (like Phage and Blightsteel) and then make my opponents guess which random 2/2 they should block. I can still add Zimone to the 99 of a Kadeena list I have brewing, but she would've been the perfect commander for that strategy.
There's an infinite in the Hakbal precon: Deeproot Pilgrimage + Reflections of Littjara to copy Kiora's Follower = infinite merfolk tokens
that deck is pretty good but it’s also a merfolk tribal deck. probably one of the more fun tribes but still a tribal deck
Happy to see an opinion on Winter that isn’t so doom and gloom. I’m super excited to build him, getting to reanimate a Portal to Phyrexia is going to feel crazy.
Finally an accurate assessment of Harrower. I see so many people saying he's bad. Insane
Tomer is a fellow Arabella enjoyer. I approve (I saw her and instantly wanted to build a cheap token go wide deck with her)
I wish Nashi had the text of Basim from Assassin's creed
Loreth of the healing house+Marvin+the new 5 color commander gives infinite lock/unlocks like u were speaking of
Kona is one of the reasons I'm not ashamed to keep my lightning bolts in all red decks.
There is also some old red enchantments that decides attacks and blocks for Norin so should be possible to do something. Like Invasion plans. Could be a fun deck to put together honestly.
Will be building Rendmaw & Marvin for sure! Two very different styles nether of which I have in my deck rotation, GOAD & combos respectively 🤙🏻
Arabella is being made immediately. One of the many uncommons
I completely agree with you on aminatou, was really looking forward to new miracle Commander but i dont want to do another enchantment matters deck.
The main difference is that now you can take long durdly enchantress turns during opponents turns as well as your own 😅
well she is not a miracle commander at all. she just gives enchantments miracle. it’s incidental
@@eebbaa5560 yup, when the box art was released showing aminatou and it was called miracle worker I was excited for a new esper commander to build around since I don't have one yet. Then when the actual card got released I was disappointed because I personally don't need/want a new enchantment deck. no hate on anyone that buys or builds her she was just too similar to my anikthea deck.
my friejds and i did some proxy testing and think the jolly baloon man is alot stronger than he looks, he made some really sick plays possible
Seeing prime numbers referenced in Magic makes this math teacher very, very happy 😁 not a good card, but I will be building that deck
Sad to see Toby in the trash! I might try building him with a bunch of sacrifice outlets and Sun Titan effects.
The jolly balloon man goes infinite with aurelia the warleader and a mana dork or without the dork it's combats equal to the amount of mana you have
You'll need a way to activate The Jolly Balloon Man at instant speed, like Thousand-Year Elixir.
Self mill from dealing combat damage has been on the rise since MH3 with cards like barrowghoyf
Rendmaw is my 1st golgari deck. Feels both unique for that combinarion while also having a cool gameplan (summon the swarm for everyone to peck each other to death) to make it worth building, rather than the typical aristocrats/yard nonsense.
I've been messing around with the precon Zimone and while she's a good combo commander she makes an excellent sneak attack commander by using top deck manipulation and any type of fetch lands to drop haymakers turn after turn
if you give Arabella lifelink it's even spookier because you gain 4X life instead of just X life, assuming you have 3 opponents still alive!
oh wait you already said that, mb, commented before finishing the video i'm a dumbo
The super powerful ones like kona and lord of pain are SOOOOO boring and the play patterns are gonna be lame and yawn inducing like the first game you play them.
Way prefer stuff like arabella. Mindskinner is the coolest commander in the entire set BY FAR. So unique with how it does what it does
The Mindskinner will be my new voltron commander
Spirit of the Night was the first of the ritual summon creatures.
Suprised you didn't put norin as great in the 99. He's great in any deck based around attack triggers. You don't have to do any crazy combos, he just let's you attack without dying basically.
Narci isn't really a graveyard enchantress at all, if anything she's more of a weird Aristocrat Enchantress
I'm torn, I've never built an enchantress deck, so a Miracle twist on it could be fun. Easy commander would be valgavoth but fun.
Hear me out: Norin + every red 1 drop. Just start jamming
Norin gunna be a house in my Yoshi Rograkh legends deck :)))
Toby is not trash at all you can play mono white blink with him and run token doublers etc. You did not see the vision at all here
I could see Norin maaaaybe going in faldorn
Norin doesn't look that weak to me. What if you just fill your deck with cheap creatures that ETB for value. Like the ones that create a treasure token. If people block, you get value, if they don't they take damage. I bet many people would rather take 2-3 damage than give you value, but you would need some finisher for when they actually start blocking for their life.
Also isn't Tyvar just a scuffed Zopandrel? I guess if you go wide and have one really tall creature he's better but.. Zopandrel
1:07:47 actually they have infinites in a couple recent precons. There are infinite combos in the precons energy matters MH3 precon as well in the most recent Bello animate trash precon
This is the first set in a while that none of the legends really do anything for me, both aesthetically and mechanically, and I'm a big horror guy as well. I don't want to be too negative, but imo, this set is such a disappointment.
30:00 I see the pun there
Tomer: “they have made to many enchantress deck. They done it like 4 time”
Also tomer: “a love this new boron equipment/aura commander it is only the 100th they have made”
lol they have only made 3 enchantress deck and all of them have been in the last year lol but I’m going to making aumanuto
I count 5: this one, the 2 last year, the Daxos precon, and the Estrid precon. I can only think of Arm for Battle precon for equipment? Seems pretty clear that one specific archetype has too much spotlight, I mean 3 in 2 years is particularly egregious imo
@@tomerabramovici32 fair lol but it was a joke more then facts because I’m sure there is not really 100 boras equipment/auras
@@tomerabramovici32 ok you are wrong there 2 in 1 year in the Abzan and know espa. Doxos precon was 2015 and estrid precon was 2018 and I said boros commanders not precon
Replacing Daxos the Returned with Victor. Daxos has just done nothing for me for so long that i would rather have surveil 2 in the command zone instead.
I really dont see what is interesting all that much about Nashi. We got Legendary matters in dimir recently with commander from ACR that are just better value than Nashi
I'm putting Nashi in a jon irenicus deck 😂
With Syr Konrad
Oh, throwing mindskinner in too
Dude use a dark filter extension for your browser its really painful to watch this white scryfall lol
Slamming tyvar in my abomination of llanowar deck
Marvin actually breaks the game...if you have him and Sakashima the imposter it causes a situation that has no answer currently in Magic.
Isn't it just resolved with time stamps?
There is resolution. You simply follow the rules of dependency as outlined under CR 613.8.
Excerpt from 613.8b: “If several dependent effects form a dependency loop, then this rule is ignored and the effects in the dependency loop are applied in timestamp order.”
@@mmlgamer can you explain that in simpler terms
No, there is. This exact “issue” has existed since Experiment Kraj. Just look up how that works with Sakashima and it applies to Marvin as well.
how does the "winter, misanthropic guide" hand size effect stack w no hand size effects opponent's may have? i assume their effect overwrites it so this is jus bad at any table playing reliquary tower
if you’re in a playgroup with people that still play reliquary towers they probably suck anyway
@@eebbaa5560 ok bro
@eebbaa5560 okay we get it you watch youtube shorts by mtg content creators.
I'm also so tired with enchantress... always so boring and exactly the same game each time
I’m a slut for enchantress so I’m eatin good
You did Marina dirty, you put ALL enchantments in the 7 into your hand and not just 1... So at worst you dig deep for a bunch of enchantments.
17:33 I really don't understand Marina. At all. Rooms matter? I get that's it's kinda the 2nd option but it became the 2nd option because Rooms are brand new + there really isn't a huge quantity of them
Nashi is awfu as a commander imol youre not doing that much damage unless you're voltron and if youre doing that why even bother with mill?
26:46 Just as a reminder, Niko's Pronouns are they/them. :)
glad I saw this! probably would have never heard their pronouns properly since I don't keep up with the story at all

Am I alone absolutely hating that word "commander" has taken over "legendary creature" in parlance when talking about a category?
Yes, among the hundreds of thousands of people who play MtG you alone dislike the prevalence of commander and its influence on Magic as a whole.
Hey i love commander but i really dont like that its warped every other format. I mean cmon, Nadu is a commander card that ruined modern.@sosukelele
@@sosukelele
I was very specific and referencing the video title that talks about "commanders" instead of "legendary creatures". I dont personally like that people refer the category of "legendary creature" as "commander" because "commander" is specific deckbuilding term. There are no "commanders" in decks 99 only "legendary creatures".
You appear to be a person who lacks proper reading comprehension skills and manners, so instead of calling you "rude" I will refer to you as a "redditor" because the terms have enough overlap here to justify its use as does the video title have justification to use "commander" as much as I personally dislike it because its good for the algorithm.
I would not be critical of the issue if this was the only case where I have seen it but recent in my local LGS I had a new player who purely started because EDH content in YT going through my trade binder referring to page of legendary creatures as "page of commanders" and it grinds my gears very much.
@@CrowQQnews flash, he's ranking them as commanders.
