London to Edinburgh in a Tesla Model Y Long Range | Tesla Road Trip UK 2022
So myself and my good mate Dennis did an Epic road trip in this 2022 Tesla Model Y long-range taking us from Tesla in Guildford up to Newcastle via Gateshead, on to Whitley Bay, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Keswick in the Lake District, then the fantastic Tebay Services to finish things off.
We decided to only use the Tesla Supercharger network to make the journey perhaps a little more challenging - find out how we got on with range anxiety, charging the Tesla, and more...
This video was made with NO UNFAIR AGENDA of any kind other than to genuinely see if a long EV road trip adds time and inconvenience on to a long trip. For the record, I love cars, not fuel sources. Tesla was kind enough to lend me the car but I have been under no pressure to show anything other than the absolute truth.
A full review of the Tesla Model Y Long Range is coming very soon.

As a Tesla Model Y Owner I can confirm that the Tesla supercharger network is great - I charge at home for 5p/Kwh so that's a massive bonus, the car does about 4 miles on 1 Kwh. My maths might be slightly out but thats over 550 MPG at present day petrol prices, the car its self is amazing but after having German cars for over 20 years I can see the difference in build quality but is not bad at all. Liked your honest review of the car and as I live in the North I loved to hear your thoughts on the area, Tebay is my favourite service station in the whole country and anyone passing should stop in and have a look.😀

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru

I've only had 2 Tesla's (both Press Cars) but the build qualkity has been superb on both. I know there are consistency issues and have certainly seen some poor examples but I try to take as I find and both have been great for me. Tebay is amazing!

Great video, good quality and good editing. The Tesla will be about £60k so too much for me and I've regularly done 600 miles in a diesel Mondeo in one day which cost me £1000 to purchase secondhand. 300 mile range is about where it needs to be but EVs have got to be nearer to £20k or sub-£200 PCP, though I think MG might get it there. If I get an EV now, I'll be paying 32p/kWh for home charging and saving over ICE fuel isn't much if any so staying with ICE is better for most for now. I know a couple of Audi e-tron GT owners and they bought them for the tax advantages but aren't impressed with the range at barely 200 miles.

Another interesting video - you just need to book better weather next time! The ability to use their own dedicated charging network is a definite Tesla advantage- I can't really understand why they are going to share their charging network as this dilutes their USP as many other premium brands are catching up on range. As others have said, in the sub £35K/£250 per month sector where many motorists including myself reside, I remain unconvinced by current EV offerings and prefer the latest non plug in hybrids which allow some pure EV range for city streets and more economical fuel consumption on a longer journey. Keep up the videos - all really interesting.

Thanks Mike, seems crazy to give up such an amazing USP but I'm sure there's wisdom in there somewhere.

Another honest video. I have looked at a few different electric cars.I agree that Tesla interior is very cold and bland.

Good video Jim, raising the debate about the diminishing financial benefits of fuelling an EV over combustion engine vehicles. Personally whilst I admire the instant torque of an EV I shall be a late adopter hanging on to the bitter end I’m sure.

Do we think the love affair with EVs is starting to die off?
    Great video though!

I’ve never had one. It’d be like saying you adore diesels - there’s a big difference between a Peugeot 306d and a 540d. I’m totally objective about EVs as I as always am with any car. I really loved the car though regardless of the fuel. Thanks for watching.

You got good range given wind and rain increases resistance. With my EV would never visit a charging with less than 6 chargers

As a Model 3 owner I'm sorely tempted by the Y. But living London, with it's conjested roads, is this car just a tad too large?

It is a big car. I’ve got a 500e on loan at the moment and something that size would be far better for London. A bit different though! Love the model 3 by the way.
