Watch my NEW updated video - Same trip as this one year on! ruclips.net/video/4rVeBa_PUsY/видео.html NOTE: If I didn't get FREE charging my total Supercharging cost would have been £34.12 for supercharging
Thanks Spawnpoint! Gave you a shout out in the video! I realised we did an almost identical journey! Loved your video too! We’re hoping to get back down to Cornwall in July!
Nice video. I've had a Tesla for more than 5 years and have done quite a few longer trips like Montpellier in S. France. Planning is important but actually what I find now is that its the destinations that are key. Stopping overnight in France on the way down is always somewhere with a Tesla destination charger. Overnight you get a full battery. Same applies to the holiday accommodation. As long as you can plug in even at domestic plug charging rates (circa 7 to 8 miles range per hour) it ensures you get roughly 70+ miles added to start the next day throughout the holiday. The supercharger network then handles the rest of the en-route charging requirements easily as you found. Lastly having charging at home is important to cut journey times back as you only need to get there with 10 to 15 % charge before plugging in and again letting the car do its thing overnight. Unfortunately at present despite being tempted by other EV models its still only Tesla that have the charging infrastructure to make everyday usage a viable option. Other manufacturers need to pull their fingers out.
Thanks Jeffrey, glad the video helped! I've got a few road trip videos on the channel and as you'll see the Tesla handles them all super well! Since this video went up, I'd say it's a lot easier finding chargers too
I enjoyed every moment of the video. The scenery are beautiful, your commentary is professional. The editing is amazing. And of course the Tesla is a jewel.
Thanks Mark, another great video. I've ordered a M3 LR and expect delivery before we take our holiday from Norwich to Devon, so seeing your journey really does showcase range anxiety shouldn't be a thing, even with small hiccups. That is why i went with the Tesla, the range is holds is beyond say the polestar coupled with the supercharger network just gives you confidence to travel long distances. Keep up the videos :)
Hey Will, oh great! That sounds like a good journey! Yes I think you’ll be fine! Also at worst we could have used the 3pin plug at the house, so honestly there is nothing to worry about really with the LR!
We have a LR MY we just drove our first long trip from Toronto to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Stated out with a little range anxiety because of the bad cold winter weather. That quickly evaporated when we realized the car was doing an excellent job of guiding us from supercharger to supercharger at the same time adjust as needed. It also was charging very efficiently by only charging what was needed to get to the next calculated charging stop. Charging ranged from 35 minutes to as low as 8 minutes. Initially we were using a lot of battery due to cold and heavy rains. As we went further South and the weather warmed up the range was excellent at 70mph (150 to 160watts/km) charging needs that were calculated reflected the increased range. Bottom line; enter final destination and any stopovers and follow on screen instructions. It really is that simple!! This was a two day drive with hotel stopover it is amazing!!
I’m sticking with petrol as long as possible. I couldn’t do with all this wondering where the chargers are, is there enough battery to get there stuff.
Autopilot is a dream. I've personally encountered less phantom breaking over time so it is getting better but never think it won't ever happen. Just always be alert. In addition, the new vision update should dramatically decrease phantom breaking exponentially as I think phantom breaking is due to radar issues.
Yes I love Autopilot too just makes the journey 50% less stressful! Yes it’s the only time it’s ever happened to me but I think when it’s busy I stay more alert
I did London to Torbay and then St Ives in June (Model 3). No problem. Now Cambourne - Near St Ives has 8 Superchargers. Opened recently. Making it even easier.
That 1 dislike is probably Gordon Johnson. Mark, dude... what an awesome channel! Your production value is off the scale! Really hope you blow up, would be well deserved! In the UK too, considering the M3SR+ or this M3LR. Decisions decisions...
Thanks so much, really appreciate the comment! Really glad you’re enjoying the production value, as we put a lot of time into it so glad it shows! Yes I think I would recommend the long-range, as it’s much faster, you get a premium sound system, rear heated seats, and 100 more miles (almost) compare to the standard range
Good video learned a lot. I came across your site by chance I live in the US I am interested in Tesla so I have been watching a lot of videos. What I liked a lot was your travels to different towns and cities the scenery was terrific. When I was working I used to visit England quite a bit including Wales. Your videos made me think about all the good memories I have of the trips I made while I was there. Thanks again.
Surely the best way to charge once at your destination is to plug in overnight where you're staying? I guess this wasn't possible in this case but it has to be the way forward for most people. All you need is a regular domestic socket.
Hey yes we were not allowed to this this at our rental, but could have done if it was a super emergency. The Tescos was only over the road, so it was a faster, easier option for us.
It won't be the way forward for city dwellers and this is the problem, the very place where an electric car would be the most beneficial, they are the least practical and who really has time to pause their journey for what can amount to hours for charging?
I can recommend The Tregathenan House B&B! You can charge your EV and it's right in the middle of Cornwall. We drove the Model S there from Switzerland in 2018.
@@MBrown We made two stops overnight. First in Calais and then Exeter, took it easy with some sightseeing. Made the Switzerland / UK trip about 6 times in 4 years back when my parents got the Model S. Looking forward to doing it again next year with my own Model 3.
You mention that there aren’t much chargers near st Ives? There are multiple 50KW fast charges at the A30 / st Ives junction. Should never have charge issue down there. Check out zap map! Osprey and genie point .
Hey yes there was one in St Erth, but it just would mean driving somewhere and sitting there for an hour on holiday as there isn’t much to do there. (They were my last resort options) luckily the Tesco’s down the road did the job for us! 👍
I have a 2020 Model 3 and we have a summer holiday in Norfolk every year and never have any range anxiety. Before the Tesla I had a Nissan Leaf for 5 years and range anxiety was part of owning that vehicle. There are some other benefits to owning a tesla. * No servicing required! , * No oil changes, * you never smell of diesel, * you probably wont ever have to replace the brake pads, * there is roughly 10 times less chance of being involved in a fatal or serious injury crash.
Hey Simon of nice! Where do you visit. Yes I never have range anxiety and since this video there are now a few superchargers down that way. (at the time there were not only no superhchargers but only a handful of chargers.)
@@MBrown We always go to the same place, a small village called Little Fransham. No super chargers around there, so we normally either charge while we are out, does not take long, or use the Granny Charger over night. I like the Super charger at King's Lynn, 250Kwh
Absolutely superb Mark. I have just ordered a Model 3 Long Range & this has answered so many of my questions. I regularly travel from my home in Essex to my office in Northwich, Cheshire. Your video has helped to allay some of my range fears, and provided some tips too! Great work. Subbed and liked! All the best, Marcus
Thanks Marcus and glad you enjoyed the video. You're welcome. i've got to say since this video I've done the same trip and there are now loads of Superchargers in Cornwall so it would have resolved all my issues! Thanks for the sb
Fab Video, just ordered my Model standard range plus for delivery sometime is Sept, so obviously not got the range of yours, and planning a trip to cornwall next year. hopefully more chargers will be available. After seeing this video i'm super excited about getting my tesla.
Hey David that’s great, you’re gonna love it! They’ve actually just put a load of new superchargers down in Cornwall so that gets rid of all of my charging issues in this video nowb
I'm currently in Almeria, Spain from London . Did London to Gibraltar last Year. Iberdrola have made this much easier this year - Now lots of 50KW charges plus a Promotion giving 2 months free EV Charging.
@@MBrown Yes. One night stay in France. No problems charging. Heading to Monaco later in month, then back to Almeria. Will use free charging I have with Iberdrola - which includes 350kw Ionity chargers.
Hi Mark, great videos, and I took delivery of my LR in mid March too. Had watched your video in the lead up. Travelled to Gordano services for first charge on a Super Charger - and realised after we had left, that you were charging next to us! You were just as friendly as you appear on your channel! My first e car - great machine! Keep up the videos!
Hi Mark - PodPoint app kicks you out every few days and you have to log back in - there is no indication you are logged out when you're looking at the app other than many of the charge points disappear! It's a peculiarity of the Pod Point app. Log back in and the missing charge points should reappear. If you get kicked off after 5 mins you have to unplug the cable from both car and charger and re-connect to continue using the PodPoint. Cheers.
Hey Paul thanks, yes that sounds like what happened as it just wouldn't show the charger to activate it. (It was first time I'd used the PodPoint as we don't have many near my house)
That's funny because near me in the southwest ther are many pod point most in supermarket car parks and they are free too. I have never been booted off apart from when I forgot to accept the charge cause if you don't it throws you off after 15 mins
amazing trip no doubt. but all it seems is. you spent an entire trip worrying about where chargers are and how you will get to the next charger. i’m looking at a model 3 LR for my mrs but we will also be keeping our estate volvo d3 for family long trips, awesome review tho. very good 👍🏻
We are in Penzance at the moment traveled from Nuneaton Nr Coventry. We have a SR+ and it was so easy. Places you visited are also places we are visiting this week so watching your video helped. All good
Hey Trevor that’s great! Yes if you get some sunshine Carbis Bay is lovely for a day at the beach and the Minack Theatre was really impressive! Have a great time!
Fantastic video Mark i really enjoyed this road trip you posted, one slight thing id prefer is the background music being a bit lower, it kinda dominates the video when you are explaning things about the trip :)
This vid has actually made up my mind to get one if these cars. I live in Cornwall and can confirm there is now a big supercharger site in Camborne less than ten miles from st Ives.
Hey welcome to the Tesla family! Use this link to get £500 off your car! (this is my referral link so you get £500 off and I'll get some charging free!) I've used the Camborne charger a lot, great coffee shop there too called Fibrehub!
@@MBrown thanks man. My difficult decision is a new RWD (in which case I can use the code). Or a used LR for same money. I really like the idea of the extra power and love a decent stereo so I'm thinking of the long range..... But I don't know.....ahhhhhh Thankfully I have a charger at home.
Absolutely agree about using heater etc. The infotainment system isn't going to really make any difference and cars with heat pumps also little difference. Took my Model Y for a long drive, met traffic queue and the autopilot was great in the stop start traffic was effortless.
@@MBrown Interesting video though. My wife wants to go that way (childhood reasons). I see there are a couple of superchargers down that way and I think we'll look for an AirBnB with EV charging and confirmed. :)
Charge number 5 wouldn't normally work for most of us at say city supermarkets because they use ANPR and limit your stay to no more than three hours. 90 at Waitrose!
Excellent video, thank you! Apart from the car, the report on St. Ives and surrounding area was tremendous. Cornwall's tourist board should pay you! Thank you again.
I’d really like one , they are £425 per month over 48 months based on 12000 miles per annum , nice blue model 3 with propeller alloys . Really good review , thank you .
That trip back home said 351 miles. Could you have mafe it with one decent stop? Just appears too much faffing about for me. Maybe the 'real world' range isn't quite there yet for me to change.
Hmm I see you have the same problem with trucks on the adjacent lane. The visualisation shows that it believes the truck to swerve into your lane, this was one instance where I encountered phantom braking!
Hey Mark, Just curious as to why you bought a Tesla? Other than the 0 emissions thing. Why not buy the new 330E (just an example) and be able to drive to and from work in fully electric mode? And then do a long journey like this using the hybrid technology meaning you would of done this journey without stopping for fuel or electricity? I love the Tesla idea and all EV’s point/meaning but I simply don’t think they meet the current demand that is required of us the consumer?
Hey Matthew, great question! So for me, I have a limited company, so you can pop an EV through a business now and there is no BIK taxes. In addition to this it helps reduce the companies tax bill, no emissions, cheaper fuel, no servicing costs (as there is no engine) no road tax plus I do a lot of long journeys so autopilot is very nice!
Excellent video as I live in St Ives and thinking about getting a Tesla. There are 4 IONITY super chargers installed at Shell in Hayle (5 miles from St Ives) which are about to come online any day now, so the infrastructure, even down here is getting better all the time. This video has certainly boosted my confidence in going electric. Thanks.
Hey Melvin you’re welcome! Oh I’m jealous, would love to live there! Yes that’s great, there is also a fast charger at St Erth station you should check out! I was going to go to that one of I couldn’t get the chargers to work
Some friendly advise... Radio wont affect battery, the impact is extremely small. Charging to 100 all the time also isn't great for your battery, if you can charge to 90 or even better 80. Obviously for the purpose of your trip 100 is ok, but if you can I would start on 90 and top up again to 90 if you want to preserve the life of the battery. Nice video and great production work!
Thanks Joshua, yes I only really do to 100 on long journeys just to get a bit of extra mileage should we need it (daily I just do 80-90) thanks and welcome to the channel!
if you can hose and wash your car at your house, im sure you could get a charger installed at home, but if the one at your work you get 4 hours free plus parking, save so much money
Yes weirdly it's about 1 metre too far, without diggin up the entire lawn... and as we might move it's not worth the £2000 it will cost for the digging and pipe laying.
I went to the Isle of Wight recently for a week, similar experience. Most of the public charging spaces are in hotel car parks but of course they were shut at this time. Luckily I managed to trickle charge from our accommodation overnight at no extra cost
Great video, highlighting the lack of charge points around Cornwall. The Eden Project has chargers available, but not a lot of the smaller attractions like Heligan, as you found out. As a local, I can tell you used your satnav instead of the signposted route to Heligan which meant the smaller roads, so for anyone watching, there is a larger road (it at least has white lines down the centre). We are wanting to go electric, and currently drive these little lanes in a big Audi A6. You get used to driving into greenery to avoid tractors. There's a POD charging point in Mevagissey carpark now too.
Hey thanks so much, we are heading back to Cornwall in a months time so I’ll be sure to look out for the larger roads, as it’s a bit of a nightmare sometimes going down the small country tracks. We are visitingCarbis Bay again
@@MBrown Have fun down in West Cornwall. The hotel should be fully functional now that G7 has finished, so your Tesla chargers should be accessible too. Today, after driving for 18 years, I've had my first tyre blow out (hit a piece of metal in the bottom of the hedge) and had the experience of changing a tyre on those very same, very overgrown narrow roads. Fun.
Mark, I drive a 2021 Tesla S long Range in the US. It seems easier here with the extra range (410 miles) and so many superchargers everywhere. Nevertheless, I loved your presentation because I did the same journey from Manchester all the way to St. Ives in an ICE car. It was expensive on fuel. But what a wonderful journey. We stayed with friends in Cornwall. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks so much Peter. Yes I bet the journey would be great in a model S! I’m hoping we get a few more chargers about here soon as Tesla’s are becoming much more popular here!
Really interesting and helpful Mark, thank you. Going to be doing the same trip from York later this year in a LR Model 3 but haven’t done such a big trip yet. Had already earmarked that Tesla charger that was fenced off so will be sure to check that out before we set off!
Hey Mark thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video, yes you’ll have a great journey, loads of supercharges up until Cornwall, the Carbis Bay should be open again around 17th May so fingers crossed if you can use that one that will be great!
12:10 Not a problem i guess. My gasoline car always says it can drive 800km with a full tank, when i get the warning sign 'empty tank' it says i can still drive 70km. While in real distance i only drove about 600km so 600+70= 670 while he always starts at around 800km range.
Had my 2021 Model 3 for about 4 months. I will never go back to ICE cars. Those with no home charging however should really do some research on local charging options as Ive not been able to home charge the last few days and charging options are ok but I have experienced broken and occupied charging.
Great presentation, really interesting. Would be really interested to know the cost in ££'s if you didn't have referral's, and also for you to show how long (in time) you stayed at each of your 7 charges? The same journey for me would have been fill before I leave, fill once for the back, so maybe 5 to 10 mins max. (Diesel car obvs.) - UPDATE Just noticed that you have alrady posted £34.50 for the cost without referrals', sorry!
Fair point. Only £35 more in my diesel and save hours in charging time, plus I bet that was spent in coffee shops. Great video by the way and electric cars are the future but the financial benefits aren’t big enough yet
This is actually even more useful than SpawnPoiints video. (Not saying his isn't useful) but the realities of EV ownership without your own home charging. It's quite impressive
Hi Mark, great Vlog on real world ownership. Getting there but still a long way to go with range and convenience. On long joint business trips with my Wife my 6 series BMW Diesel can easily achieve 600+ miles range , on a Manchester to our regular London, Glasgow, Cambridge(pre CV19)🥴 we will usually have a quick convenience stop, grab a coffee & switch over driving which takes 10-15 mins even a fuel stop is 10 mins. So for now it just doesn’t work to own an EV for lots of reasons. A massive innovation leap is still required in Batteries, charging & infrastructure. The manufacturers need to cap speeds and acceleration too as this seems to be an unnecessary selling point. Look forward to future Videos.
Hey Gareth, yes I was in a similar position to you, so was very worried about it. I think as long as you went for a Tesla you should be okay, as you can almost get a full charge in some superchargers in 10 to 15 minutes. However yes you are right you would probably need to stop a couple more times compared to the BMW. I had a Mercedes C class diesel and that seems to last for ever
I think Devon/Cornwall are the places to drive to after getting a Tesla! Last year me and the missus did the same journey from Newcastle after getting our SR+. Stayed in Mevagissey where thankfully they had a destination charger at the hotel. Super useful. Was thinking though Mark, if you were staying at a rental house could you have been cheeky and just used the travel wall connector you get with the car, connected to a 3-pin and charge at 2KW overnight if push came to shove? Might have meant having the cable out of the window but would have done the job… Great video, super informative…
Thanks Mark, yeah lovely places to drive around, really nice place. How did you get on with yours? Yes we did ask, however they were not keen. Push come to shove I would have used it, but thought it might be more fun for the video too seeing if we can survive on public charging. (for people who maybe have no access to the plug or a hotel with no destination charging.)
@@MBrown very true I suppose. This is probably why you’re the RUclipsr and I’m not 😄👍🏼. To be honest like you said, there was some planning on charging stops, etc but honestly it was absolutely fine, even with my SR+ model 3, never suffered from range anxiety at all. Super useful to use ABRP and ZapMap along the way as well. Watched your video on FSD trial, too by the way. I had the 2 week trail and honestly, I’d have been furious if I spent a few grand on it. It always wanted to pull me into the middle lane for no reason (making me one of those annoying middle lane drivers!) and the “smart summon”…well…nothing smart about it
Could you add a link to what it would’ve cost how do you not have had the free charging? Me personally I’m looking at getting a Tesla but it be via a car lease scheme as such I can’t use a referral code so these kind of prices are absolute key to my decision.
@@MBrown Yep. The sign is warning hotel guests since they'll be there longer than 2 hours. The cameras are situated on the entrance and exit to the service area. There's none on the hotel carpark. But I agree. Not clear at all.
@@MBrown You only need one. Well actually you don't even need charging boxes. If you stay at a large hotel that has a commercial kitchen they will have a house electrician. Any house electrician can hook you up.
@@MBrown How do you think 80eDays Rafael de Mestre drove his TESLA ROADSTER around the world in 2012? Then his MODEL S around the world in 2016 that year with at least 6 other contestants. It was a nightly routine arrive a big hotel ask for the manager, manager gets the electrician, charging was set-up. I arranged it on other occasions at hotels in Nice and Brussels. When Rafael was in China in 2012 restaurants helped him and when he was in the Gobi desert with his Tesla Roadster in 2012, tribesmen climbed up telegraph poles and hooked his Roadster up to the grid line.
I cannot wait to get our model 3 hopefully at the start of the new year we will get ours! With car, are you going to buy it out right or are you going to change it every 3 or 4 years?
Great video, but you should consider trusting Tesla’s navigation, since it’s best to arrive with the smallest amount of charge possible because the less amount of energy your battery has, the faster it charges
I would recommend telling the owner of where you stayed about installing a 7kw home charger! They may get extra customers at their rental! Great vlog and great quality video. 👏🏻
Thanks Adrian! Yes I was thinking the same, if anyone has an AirBnb they’re surely get a few more bookings in the year from us Tesla drivers alone! Haha
Brilliant content, scenery and detailed review! Top notch! Been thinking long and hard about whether my next car will be an EV. This video has really helped me decide the UK just doesn’t have the infrastructure for EV’s yet, especially if you don’t have a Tesla. Many will disagree of course, but we all have different needs. For me it’s one more petrol X5 (on order) and hopefully the EV options will be better
Hey Andy, no I don’t think it would be too much of a problem. I’ve actually moved to this area and there are tons more charges compared to when I did this video.
Great video. I’m still debating on SR+ or LR. You made the transition to LR, what was your reasons? I’ve seen loads of Road trips on RUclips SR+ in America. The best way to achieve the distance is charging little and often, don’t deplete the battery too low, better to stop for quick top up , avoiding range anxiety and lengthier stops.
Hey Michael thanks for the message. So for me the range was most important. I travel back to see my family who are 240 miles away and the SR at the time just wasn't enough range for me. (Its improved a bit since then.) I also like faster cars which was a bit decision too.
Enjoyed the video and the views of Cornwall. Could you have taken an extension cord and plugged in overnight at the house that you rented? I have a Y and initially used an extension cord before I bought a Wall Charger.
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed the tour of Cornwall. Yes I could have done that, however they asked us not too, so I thought I'd try the trip without to see how it went
I lived in the East Midlands for several years, nearly a decade ago and I think that's the same construction in Birmingham that I experienced back then. 😂
Tesla should update the navigation to add waypoints (so we mark the extra supercharger stop during the trip). And it would be great to set a charge level that we want in the destination, which is specially useful if we don’t have a charger in our destination point and we need the extra range.
Hey yes that would be great. I did notice though if you tap a supercharger it will navigate there, then say 'Continue your journey' when its charged which is good!
Podpoint chargers always only work for 15minutes unless you have signed in on the app and confirm the charge - if you do then it will continue. p.s. why didnt you charge at the house you were staying in?
Hey yeah for some reason even after activating it would cancel or just not show up on the map. In terms of the house, We could have done if we were really stuck but I wanted to see if we could get by without using tje 3 pin plug (more as a personal first test when having the car)
@@MBrown Sometimes owner of the property where the podpoint is have asked for the podpoint to remain off the map by default (my work's office does that as they don't want it used outside of work). You have to phone podpoint up direct and declare yoursefl as a patron or worker on the site. They will then activate it.
Looks like you off street parking at the house. Did you investigate charging from a standard 3 pin socket? I’ve done many holidays just using “granny” charging. No worries about needing to go out your way to find public charging.
Hi Mark Enjoyed your video, I only have one thing I think would have been useful for you to mention, and that would be to have included how much it would have cost at each charger as not everyone will have free miles in their Tesla accounts. I for one would be really grateful if you have made a note of what it would have cost to please share that information.
@@MBrown that’s fantastic mate, thank you for the info, my wife and I are currently looking into a Model 3 as a business lease so your information has been very helpful, even paying full price for charging is way cheaper than an ICE car.
Nice to see i wont be downgrading to an electric car anytime soon went to Scotland last week from london in my diesel 3 series bmw and got 850 miles on one tank👍👍
The phantom breaking thing I've had that, was wondering if it could be the big road signs on motorways that trigger it? I would not like to be punted from behind because of it.
Hey yeah I’ve heard it happens when you go under a flyover and the speed limit above is 40mph so for a split second it thinks you’re on the other road (although mine happened in the middle of no-where?)
Nice informative trip video. We have one thing in common - I don't have a home charger either, but I am able to charge for free at work on a 11kW Type 2 charger. I'll soon be taking a trip to north Cornwall from Hampshire, which will be around 175 miles one way, and NOT in a Tesla, but a VW ID.3. I'm fully expecting it not to be as easy as your journey, but I don't think it'll cause too many problems. I can't say it'll be free either, but I don't expect it to cost too much. In the region of £20-30 depending upon how much running around I do.
Hi Mark, I’m curious what the journey would have cost if you hadn’t had any referral miles (as other drivers may not have a friend who has purchased a Tesla through their link). I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what the petrol costs would have been, but U.K. still curious…
Hi, as I'm now starting to look into electric cars my question is, are Tesla charging points only for Teslas or are they available for other cars to use? Cheers.
Hey Alan the Tesla chargers are only for Teslas unless you find what is called a Tesla Destination charger (they can be used with any EV) however the super quick superchargers are Tesla only, so it you’re doing a lot of long journeys it’s one of the main reasons to pick a Tesla
@@MBrown It's too early for me to have a favourite but it won't be a Tesla as they're too expensive I'm afraid. I'm really trying to decide if I can make an EV work for me at the moment and it looks like the charging infrastructure in my area might be too big a problem right now but it's been really interesting finding out thanks to you and others posting their experienced on RUclips. Cheers.
Hi Mark, i am looking to buy tesla M3 LR. From youor experience could you tell me about what you do when you dont find a charging near by ? How do you deal with Range anxiety ?
Hi, so I have 2-3 rapid chargers within 2 miles of my house, then the city has a few free slow chargers so, so far it’s not been an issue. However if you live in an area with little to no public chargers it could be a problem. Make sure to check out PlugShare or ZapMap to see what chargers are near your home 👍

@@iamdwarmachine1427 hey it would have cost £35! Hope this helps
I have been sitting on the fence about getting a Tesla model three for quite some time and this video has persuaded me!
Thanks so much Khaled! Really appreciate your kind words and glad you enjoyed the video!
Can’t even afford a tesla but this is my favourite channel. Great video
Thank you! 🙏🏼
We also stayed in Mevagissey a few years ago in those new build townhouses on the harbour which you nicely captured in your video, nice memory :)
Hey Will, oh great! That sounds like a good journey! Yes I think you’ll be fine! Also at worst we could have used the 3pin plug at the house, so honestly there is nothing to worry about really with the LR!
A very professional video. Tesla’s are indeed great and the charging is not an issue at all.
Thanks so much Wim De Maeyer!
Hey Andrew oh wow that sounds like a great trip. Yes the car seems to do better as you drive too. A great car for a roadtrip
I’m sticking with petrol as long as possible. I couldn’t do with all this wondering where the chargers are, is there enough battery to get there stuff.
Hey yeah it's early days for EV's will be better in next 5 years (or if you can have a home charger?)
Yes that’s great! That would have resolved all of my issues on this trip
Yeah they do sometimes overestimate your battery consumption which I think is good because better safe than sorry
Hey Caleb, yes 100% 👍
Thank you Kenny! Glad the video brought back some good memories for you!
This was fantastic! Loved it. Thank you - super helpful info.
Thanks Bob!
Thanks Robin! I’ll check it out! Oh wow that’s a great journey, how long did it take you to drive that far?
@@MBrown We made two stops overnight. First in Calais and then Exeter, took it easy with some sightseeing.
Made the Switzerland / UK trip about 6 times in 4 years back when my parents got the Model S.
Looking forward to doing it again next year with my own Model 3.
Great road trip and very professional channel! Thank you for sharing your experiences. Greetings from Switzerland
Thanks Daniel! And a big hello to Switzerland 🇨🇭
@@devopssimon Good news, they are adding a few superchargers in Norwich at the moment!
Thanks for the sb
greetings from canada, loved the video. great mix of tesla content and what your country has to offer
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video. Planning to do a couple more my next road journey
Thats great! Wow thats a big drive, did it go ok?
@@MBrown Yes. One night stay in France. No problems charging. Heading to Monaco later in month, then back to Almeria. Will use free charging I have with Iberdrola - which includes 350kw Ionity chargers.
Hi Mark, great videos, and I took delivery of my LR in mid March too. Had watched your video in the lead up. Travelled to Gordano services for first charge on a Super Charger - and realised after we had left, that you were charging next to us! You were just as friendly as you appear on your channel! My first e car - great machine! Keep up the videos!
Hey Michael thanks so much! Ha no way! That’s great! Hope you had a great journey too! (Were you in the Blue M3?)
@@MBrown yes that’s correct! My daughter lives in Eccles, and St Ives is a favourite holiday destination, so will follow your advice! Thanks again
@@michaelmasters3327 ah that’s great! So glad you’re still enjoying the car! Hope you had a great journey
Connecting to the Tesco WiFi usually solves the not connecting problem. You can do this from inside the store.
Thanks I’ll do that next time!
amazing trip no doubt. but all it seems is. you spent an entire trip worrying about where chargers are and how you will get to the next charger. i’m looking at a model 3 LR for my mrs but we will also be keeping our estate volvo d3 for family long trips, awesome review tho. very good 👍🏻
Hey so at the time in 2021 there weren’t all that many chargers, however now you don’t even need to think about it, hundreds everywhere
Thanks Roy and appreciate the comments sure thing, I’ll look at that for future videos
Isn’t there a new supercharger site in Camborne now? Opened late 2021 I think.
Hey yes since filming this video it would be much easier, Camboure and one in Newquay about to go live too
This vid has actually made up my mind to get one if these cars.
But I don't know.....ahhhhhh
Thankfully I have a charger at home.
Very informative video and can I just say the videography has been fantastically done in this video 😍 great to see ! Keep up the great work
Thank you Ashley! Welcome to the channel!
After you experience phantom braking, tap the voice assist button and say “bug report” I hope it will help make AP better 😀
Yes fingers crossed they make some improvements!
There is a rapid charger at St. Erth station car park, just a couple of miles from St. Ives
Thanks Steve! Yes I thought I might use that one if the Tesco one didn’t work, it’s handy as St Erth isnt too far away
Absolutely agree about using heater etc. The infotainment system isn't going to really make any difference and cars with heat pumps also little difference.
Took my Model Y for a long drive, met traffic queue and the autopilot was great in the stop start traffic was effortless.
Thanks 👍 yeah it makes so little difference having it on, for the sake of sitting at a supercharger for 1 more minute it’s worth it!
Hey yes definitely there was another Tescos where it was only 15 mins so it's lucky this one is unlimited, plus there are 4 chargers.
Excellent video, thank you! Apart from the car, the report on St. Ives and surrounding area was tremendous. Cornwall's tourist board should pay you! Thank you again.
Haha thanks Nick, I’ll drop them an invoice 🧾 😂
I’d really like one , they are £425 per month over 48 months based on 12000 miles per annum , nice blue model 3 with propeller alloys . Really good review , thank you .
Thanks so much Norm!
I also checked those Tesla destination chargers in Carbis Bay Hotel shows for hotel guests only
Hey Mike yeah I think they are going to make it stricter. It might be worth calling them to see if you can use them
Thanks for the video. Do you find the screen protector blurry at all? Thanks again!
Hey I never purchased the screen protector in the end, I thought I’d leave it off!
The phantom braking is scary!!
Hey Mo, yes it certainly made my heart jump!
@@MBrown just glad you still got there safe! Honestly, your videos are brilliant!! Thank you and keep them coming 💪
That trip back home said 351 miles. Could you have mafe it with one decent stop? Just appears too much faffing about for me. Maybe the 'real world' range isn't quite there yet for me to change.
Hey Joe, I yes I could have made it back with one charge, however I don't have a home charger.
I don’t live in the UK but I sure do want to visit there now
Yes do it! Lots of nice places to visit! 👍
Yes Cornwall and Dorset nice for sure, even Brighton and Sussex
Hmm I see you have the same problem with trucks on the adjacent lane. The visualisation shows that it believes the truck to swerve into your lane, this was one instance where I encountered phantom braking!
Yeah it seems a bit odd when it does that
Hey Mark, Just curious as to why you bought a Tesla?
Great video. Really good production and video quality.
Thank you Lucas! 👍👍
The lower rate of charge at the second stop was because your state of charge SOC was higher than the first stop.
if you can hose and wash your car at your house, im sure you could get a charger installed at home, but if the one at your work you get 4 hours free plus parking, save so much money
Hey Martyn yes that’s good 👍 it’s nice to have the 3-pin charger as a last resort
Fun.
Great real world video review, very much enjoyed. Some really nice places down in Cornwall also
Glad you enjoyed it Steven, thanks so much!
That Manchester to St Ives round trip costs around £140 in an ICE car (varies depending on car obviously, more like £250 in a big SUV).
Yes it’s an expensive journey, it cost around £85 in electric when I did it again recently
A great and informative video. I love your style, diction and a lovely touch referring to spawn’s video.
Thank you kindly Andy! Welcome to the channel
Yes, it’s a great car, isn’t it? And I agree I couldn’t go back to a petrol or diesel car.
Thanks Graham!
Cheers thank you! Yes his video is great too!
If u where wondering the are Super Charges in pool
Great trip all my favourite places in Cornwall however it would have been nice to actually see how much it would have cost without your referral code.
Hey did you see my second cornwall road trip? I go into a bit more detail in this video:ruclips.net/video/4rVeBa_PUsY/видео.html
Might have meant having the cable out of the window but would have done the job…
Great video, super informative…
Hey Alan, i've just popped a pinned comment to the top (it was £35) within my next videos I'll try to display the costs without referal miles.
ANPR at Michaelwood isn't a problem as long as you aren't in the service area over 2 hours.
Yes I think they should make it clearer s it doesn’t say any where (they did say inside hotel)
@@MBrown Yep. The sign is warning hotel guests since they'll be there longer than 2 hours. The cameras are situated on the entrance and exit to the service area. There's none on the hotel carpark.
But I agree. Not clear at all.
How is the road noise on those long trips? Does your car have the dual pain windows?
Hey yes I have the double glazed in my car. To be honest I think its good. It's not as quite as a BMW or Mercedes E Class, but its not too bad at all.
@@MBrown thank you!
Charge at your hotel or accommodation that is a thing to sort out when booking.
Hey yes you can do that but even here in Cornwall there are only two hotels with chargers.
@@MBrown You only need one. Well actually you don't even need charging boxes. If you stay at a large hotel that has a commercial kitchen they will have a house electrician. Any house electrician can hook you up.
@@honesty_-no9he Really? I'd be surprised if anywhere just let you plugin to their business for hours? Amazing if they do
@@MBrown How do you think 80eDays Rafael de Mestre drove his TESLA ROADSTER around the world in 2012?
Hey Gary, yes since this video its all I use. (Its just in Cornwall at that time there were no Tesla chargers)
Mitigate overstay fines at Tesla chargers by setting the charge to 100%. Great video!
Thanks so much, Granville
My concern is that if there are very few chargers, what if somebody else is already using the only charger - for 5 hours?
Hey there are now some new superchargers in Cornwall so that gets rid of a lot of the issues I had
Thanks for this, my LR is being delivered next weekend and I travel a lot with work so great to hear all your tips, great video 👍
Thanks Alexandra that’s great, you’re going to love it! Let me know how you get on with the new car!
Thanks very much, glad you you enjoyed the video! Yeah i think if you wait a year or 2 it will be almost perfect
Would have been nice to know how much it should have cost had you not had free miles at superchargers, we saw one at 13.50
Hey Timothy, I did this journey a second time (video is on the channel) with a full cost breakdown, hope this helps
@markbrown imagine if you didn't have a Tesla, could the charging be a problem to them?
Haha it's always construction there and 50 mile an hour zones! I've never seen anyone working on it!
Wasn’t expecting to see Worsley 😄 I’ll be heading to Torquay in July. Looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve! I’ve never been to Torquay, would love to go though!
What would charging it have cost if you’d been paying for it?
Hey it was £22 if I was paying for the supercharger back then, probably around £32 since they put the prices up now.
Fantastic video and I had to subscribe. I love St Michael's Mont here and in France.
Hey Sean thanks so much and really glad you enjoyed the video!
Hey Frank, they weren’t too keen on us using it, so I thought I’d see if I could survive without it! (If I was stuck I would have used it.)
Hi Mark
Enjoyed your video, I only have one thing I think would have been useful for you to mention, and that would be to have included how much it would have cost at each charger as not everyone will have free miles in their Tesla accounts.
I for one would be really grateful if you have made a note of what it would have cost to please share that information.
Hey Scott thanks for the message, yes great point. The Total cost without discounts was £34.12 for super charging (Tescos was free)
Had the music on full blast the whole way and climite control on because it was -5 and still got back to London all on the same tank
Thats great. Didn't you stop for food or toilet, you just charge for 15 mins then and you're done
@@MBrown naa tbh I'm so lazy I went to the toilet once and mostly used drive throughs to eat 😂
@@tanner1189 Haha not for you in that case
The phantom breaking thing I've had that, was wondering if it could be the big road signs on motorways that trigger it? I would not like to be punted from behind because of it.
Hey yeah I’ve heard it happens when you go under a flyover and the speed limit above is 40mph so for a split second it thinks you’re on the other road (although mine happened in the middle of no-where?)
What's the point in a mileage predictor if its not accurate.
Yeah it needs improving
Mark do you run the car on battery % or remaining miles?
Nice informative trip video. We have one thing in common - I don't have a home charger either, but I am able to charge for free at work on a 11kW Type 2 charger. I'll soon be taking a trip to north Cornwall from Hampshire, which will be around 175 miles one way, and NOT in a Tesla, but a VW ID.3. I'm fully expecting it not to be as easy as your journey, but I don't think it'll cause too many problems. I can't say it'll be free either, but I don't expect it to cost too much. In the region of £20-30 depending upon how much running around I do.
Thanks Andy, hope you have a great journey, yes there seems to be a lot of chargers all the way down, fingers crossed it’s nice and easy for you
Hi Mark, I’m curious what the journey would have cost if you hadn’t had any referral miles (as other drivers may not have a friend who has purchased a Tesla through their link). I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what the petrol costs would have been, but U.K. still curious…
Ignore me, I’ve just seen your pinned comment! 30 quid, eh? That’s brilliant
Hey Mo, yes I meant to put this in the video, my appologies. Glad you enjoyed the video
Reassuring. It would be useful to state the cost for people who don’t have the free miles.
Hey yes I'll pop that in a pinned comment now at the top
Yes good point, especially now it appears the referral miles could be scrapped.
@@MBrown Thanks for the reply Mark.
@@alanmethven4437 you’re welcome and good luck with the EV search! Which is in the top running for you?
@@MBrown It's too early for me to have a favourite but it won't be a Tesla as they're too expensive I'm afraid. I'm really trying to decide if I can make an EV work for me at the moment and it looks like the charging infrastructure in my area might be too big a problem right now but it's been really interesting finding out thanks to you and others posting their experienced on RUclips. Cheers.
Is there no way to charge the batteries while driving? Better alternators?
Hey Bob it does actually charge them when you take your foot of the accelerator. (But only a tiny bit)
@@MBrown thanks Mark. I live in london. So hopefully as of now there are lot of street chargers.
