Jordan, you can open the charge flap without your phone by pressing on it as if it’s a touchscreen, sort of like a normal fuel cap, lightly press on the flap and it’ll open (It’s a bit annoying when clearing the car in that area, opens every time the sponge goes over it). The app, the screen inside the car, and the Tesla charger button aren’t the only ways to open the flap. Great vid
I’m sure someone else has already said that you can open your charging cover by tapping it with your finger. You don’t have to use the app or the chargers button.
Instead of drilling many holes in your wall for ever new charger fit a replaceable panel on the wall that keeps its fixings and you either replace or redrill for each new charger 👍
Jordan ,is the penfold unit still required for the new Tesla charger purchased recently? Also do you have any idea the set up for the following - power wall is already installed along with solar panels , does the charger wire direct back to the consumer unit or power wall ?
Coil the cord with larger, but fewer loops. I have the long cord too, even though I usually don't need the full length. My loops are large enough that when I park in my normal spot I don't even have to remove a second loop. It makes hooking and stowing SOOOOO much easier. And a bonus is that with fewer loops the plug is less obstructed when returning the plug to its holder.

Tesla Wall Connector. Great channel been watching your content for a while now. Nice to see some down to earth (no pun intended) issues that you guys face on a daily basis. Keep the content coming👍
The only benefit is the radio tag / button to open the cover remotely saving you the time to open the charger door and enabling the charger. It’s neat, but it’s not a CCS or J1772 “Level 2” AC plug. You won’t be able to use the Tesla plug with a non-Tesla. The pins are different to the J1772 standard. There are extensions and sockets to convert them, ie travel adaptors, but the charger has to be enabled manually for the non-Tesla car. Super chargers won’t work, because the radio tag identifies the car and charger remotely for billing. If you have a second car, you may need additional 32A cabling to a second circuit, or a 40A/63A circuit which can be shared/load balanced. This usually requires both EVSE units monitoring each other’s usage with a communication cable (RS485 modbus) and/ or CT clamp to detect and balance the load for each unit to avoid surge or overloading the charger/circuit. This way you can share a Tesla and non-Tesla wall charger in the same garage, only one needs to be the “slave” which compromises charging speed, but if they communicate together, they will usually negotiate the capped charge rate or step down to half so one will take priority, sic If you have 3-phase, you can get ~11kw on the Tesla charger, across 2 wall chargers, as they will talk to each other (RS485 modbus) for circuit/load balancing.
looks like you need to get a piece of sacrificial wood on that wall to screw the chargers to before your house is held up with plugs. top video, waiting for the next
Great video, lots of useful information. One thing I find interesting is that when you connect to one of these via WiFi, L1 to N, L1 to E, N to E and earth impedance are all displayed. My understanding of an O-PEN device is it monitors L-N and cuts all 3 if it goes out of the window. Given the Tesla gen 3 is clearly already monitoring this data (and more) it would appear quite straightforward for them to include o-pen monitoring via an ota update, which would be a game changer for UK installations. I'd love to hear what you think about this!
