Jordan, you can open the charge flap without your phone by pressing on it as if it’s a touchscreen, sort of like a normal fuel cap, lightly press on the flap and it’ll open (It’s a bit annoying when clearing the car in that area, opens every time the sponge goes over it). The app, the screen inside the car, and the Tesla charger button aren’t the only ways to open the flap. Great vid

Coil the cord with larger, but fewer loops. I have the long cord too, even though I usually don't need the full length. My loops are large enough that when I park in my normal spot I don't even have to remove a second loop. It makes hooking and stowing SOOOOO much easier. And a bonus is that with fewer loops the plug is less obstructed when returning the plug to its holder.

    • @Toliman.
      @Toliman. 3 года назад

The only benefit is the radio tag / button to open the cover remotely saving you the time to open the charger door and enabling the charger. It’s neat, but it’s not a CCS or J1772 “Level 2” AC plug.
You won’t be able to use the Tesla plug with a non-Tesla. The pins are different to the J1772 standard. There are extensions and sockets to convert them, ie travel adaptors, but the charger has to be enabled manually for the non-Tesla car. Super chargers won’t work, because the radio tag identifies the car and charger remotely for billing.
If you have a second car, you may need additional 32A cabling to a second circuit, or a 40A/63A circuit which can be shared/load balanced. This usually requires both EVSE units monitoring each other’s usage with a communication cable (RS485 modbus) and/ or CT clamp to detect and balance the load for each unit to avoid surge or overloading the charger/circuit.
This way you can share a Tesla and non-Tesla wall charger in the same garage, only one needs to be the “slave” which compromises charging speed, but if they communicate together, they will usually negotiate the capped charge rate or step down to half so one will take priority, sic
If you have 3-phase, you can get ~11kw on the Tesla charger, across 2 wall chargers, as they will talk to each other (RS485 modbus) for circuit/load balancing.

Great video, lots of useful information.
One thing I find interesting is that when you connect to one of these via WiFi, L1 to N, L1 to E, N to E and earth impedance are all displayed.
My understanding of an O-PEN device is it monitors L-N and cuts all 3 if it goes out of the window. Given the Tesla gen 3 is clearly already monitoring this data (and more) it would appear quite straightforward for them to include o-pen monitoring via an ota update, which would be a game changer for UK installations.
I'd love to hear what you think about this!

And as we drive mor model S and X who have the 16,5kW upgrade, i still love the old charger. But i understand your point of view about the safety features, but as you said, if you install a TypeB RCD the Safety issue is resolved. But as we learned, Model3 have not yet the capability to change with more than 11kW on AC, the new gen2 charge is the logical thing to charge a Tesla Model3/Y

HI, Love your videos and the electricians who fitted our heat pump yesterday said they watched you also. Love to have you fit your old Zappi you took off the wall as I collected my first electric car today.

Love what you do! I remember that I binged all your videos over few day/nights 🤣 at one point I felt like I was a electrician. so I’m a Uber driver just today I’ve ordered a Kia E-Nero for work. How can I get one please I live in a first floor-flat. What are my options?

Thanks, wasn't sure if you had to loop the single phase to all phases like some ovens. So only to L1 - Active/Neutral & earth easy,
Never heard of the pen fault protection device.

Do you need the tesla app to charge from the wall connector - and can you use it for other cars than Tesla

“Tesla Wall Connector” Technology keeps getting better and better. Is the Zappi no longer the goto electric car charge for you or is it sill competitive on price as well as safety?

Zappi is still the best but they have had some quality issues lately

Just checking does this work on other EVs? I’m sure it’s just a type 2 connector so should do but before we hit buy just want to check

How thick is the cable? Just want to know if it will fit under my garage door. The mobile cable fits but the cable on the gen 2 doesn’t.

Very insightful, thanks. I plan to get one when I move. Currently charging off a 3pin through the letterbox. It works fine, just a bit awkward to take out and put away.

Hi guys, my electrician just installed a Gen3 for me and said I don't need a PEN detection kit, is that right? He said it's already on a separate RCD so no need

Im interested but my holdback is the fact there is no load balancing option available for your home from Tesla. Or any other brand for that matter.

    Tesla Wall Connector
Getting my Model 3 in a couple of weeks and the charging point has gone out of stock, it looks amazing and will order (if I don’t win) once back in stock
