I sincerely hope you at least FINISHED Bayonetta 3 at the very least. I definitely think that game was the weakest in the trilogy but I’d be lying if I said that Singularity wasn’t the coolest final boss in the series gameplay wise!
Sounds great. For this video, I must say I'm confused what you see as a boss. According to a video by 'Esoterickk', there are 70 bosses in the game. Regardless of there being repeat bosses, you show a mix of repeatable and non-repeatable bosses which may or may not have alternate forms. I wish this was better clarified in the video somehow.
Absolutely love the thematic weight of the Heimdall fight. It’s literally a fight for Kratos’ soul. It’s him feeling torn between falling into his old ways and doing what he must for the right reasons. To see him come to the precipice and make the right choices makes it all that sweeter. Giving him a chance to live even though he’s so punchable is nice.
Yes, this. The weight I felt after killing Heimdall was so intense. I couldn't shake the feeling that there could have been some other way, and that now Kratos' fate was sealed. And when I looked back, I didn't see a God. I saw a dead boy in the dirt.
Yes, but I don't think this theme is done very well. Why should it be a big deal that Kratos tries to spare Heimdall once, when he spins elves into the air and plays fucking fruit ninja with them. It's either not very believable or weirdly classist, I guess?
@@KA1N3R it‘s a „classic“ divide between gameplay and story. Legacy and what has yet to come. The brutality is an unmistakable part of GOW‘s identity, yet remaining stagnant would‘ve undoubtedly been the incorrect choice. It‘s understandable why things turned out this way, but it still leaves a weird taste in my mouth
Heimdall was definitely a standout. It was everything we needed in a boss fight. A tough battle, a foe you absolutely want to beat the life out of, and huge thematic importance to the whole fight in general.
Personally, I'd swap #1 and #2.Not only was fighting Heimdall unique and fun, finally overpowering him and beating him to a bloody pulp was immensely satisfying.
For me, there is one boss fight game missing - Faye. Kratos told at one point that they nearly took each other head when they first met. Would be awesome that, during dream, we could fight Faye. And fact she gave Thor hard time - I can image how hard she would be to fight
You know that is a cool idea, if it was thought of the only reason to not do it would be if the devs thought it was a bad idea to limit the player to fists and the blades after having everything else for most of the game.
@@CrazyxEnigma It would’ve been neat if they gave us the fight against Faye, but it was in the same style as GoW 3. Not sure how well that would work in practice given it’s a whole different gameplay style, but it would’ve been a cool callback.
That's a weird statement. Kratos believed she was mortal, yet claims she managed to almost kill him like he almost killed her. He wasn't suspicious of her power?
@@chriskoloski32 I mean Kratos has fought against plenty of Mortals in Greece that gave him a hard time, most notably Thessus and the Barbarian King. and Birgir and the Wanderers as well as the various raider Chieftens show us that mortals in Midgard are no less powerful than they are in Greece.
I'm glad I'm not the only one raged against the triple berserker fight. An aggressive melee boss who is glued to your ass and two ranged fighters throw magic at you randomly, seriously?
I faced every other boss in the game on Give Me Balance. That triple boss pissed me off so much that I dropped the difficulty all the way to the bottom AND activated a few accessibility options, and still felt more "I'm glad that's over" than satisfaction when I won. Easily the single worst designed boss in the entire series.
I felt so annoyed I went and did it no damage on no mercy to prove to myself I could. It took hours… sometimes I must feel some serious self hatred lmaoo
This fight, on Give me GoW........ is an absolute NIGHTMARE. It took me way past 60 attempts (I know this because I stopped counting after 60) to succeed and by the time I did, I could EASILY kill the main berserker flawlessly, no hits. But in a fight where every single attack (from EITHER one of the 3 bosses) is a oneshot no matter what, the room for error is nonexistent. I have never been so close to actually throwing my PS5 out the window.
@@thats4thebirds That my friend is what I like to call "The gamer's dilema". It's that weird sense of "Ight mf....I'm tired of your ass but Imma still beat you fair and square."
I completely disagree about the Berserkers. The only time I didn't have a fun time fighting one was the necromancy dude, mostly b/c I did it too early and got too annoyed to quit. Other than that, I had a lot of fun fighting them. While I prefer the Valkyrie fights, this was a worthy successor imo. That aside, fantastic video. I love your ranking style mixing between thematic purpose of bosses, their overall difficulty, and how fun they are to play.
Completely agree the Berserkers were very challenging at least 4 of those battles are rage inducing it seemed like he lowkey complained about some of them actually being challenging
I liked the Berserkers more than the Valkyries from GoW 2018 from a gameplay perspective (the Berserkers generally looked like crap, though), and aside Gna, I didn't really have very strong feelings about the other Valkyrie fights. Hrist and Mist went by so fast that I legit forgot that I even fought them. The Berserkers definitely deserved a higher spot on the list.
Same but for the lovers one, I did it too early and was continuously 1 shotted by fister berserker. I really hate the wizard one though, too many unblockables. And the King kicked my as too much, it's still sore.
I love berserkers as well. Although some of them are very similar to others and the one who does spawn the poison scrubs with him is super lame for doing that.
Thank you for bringing up the balance between difficulty and thematic importance. It does not help a story to have a ballbusting boss ruin the cinematic take. My favorite experience in these cinematic games is feeling like I executed what would happen had it played out for real while not feeling like my hand was held to get there.
I LOVE playing on super high difficulties. I’ve done two playthroughs so far: one on Give Me Balance, and one on Give Me God of War. I spent hours fighting Gná in GMGOW, finally beating her only after I set the controller down and picked it up the next day. I also LOVE just how accessible Ragnarök is. No one needs to take on the optional super-bosses, those are for the punishment gluttons like me. Meanwhile, Thor, Heimdall, and Odin all felt remarkably possible, taking several attempts but never feeling so overwhelming as to frustrate me, and I was able to experience the full splendor of the narrative in those fights rather than focusing on how cheap they were. Challenges are fun. Making challenges optional is also fun, and anything that can bring a game like this to more people is good.
@@bellona0544 same! I love beating it on hard or gmgow but then I love tuning it back down and just relaxing. As much as I love and have beaten the souls games, I also wish I didn’t have to sweaty palm game them lol
@@bellona0544 I only play on GMGoW. It saves time and makes me better. Check out every boss in the game beaten on GMGoW without taking a hit or using rage on this channel. It'll make you want to only play like this too.
The shared Kratos + Atreus QTE for Hrist & Mist is one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced in a video game. Had me yelling out of excitement, such a badass moment!
You're lucky you met Ormstunga in the post-game! I encountered him (on No Mercy-difficulty) for the first time as early as he would be available, and that has to be one of the most terrifying boss encounters I've ever experienced. Little guy could 1v1 Odin I swear. Other than that, nice and mostly objectively true list! I probably like Alva a lot more than you (something about her reminds me Old King Allant) and found Thor a bit underwhelming difficulty-wise, but glad to see our boy Heimdall getting the recognition he deserves.
Straight up man. I was generally disappointed with Ragnarok and half of the reasoning is because ormstunga with an orange health bar wiped the floor with me for hours and after beating Odin 1st try I couldn't help but think, how the fuck is this guy controlling the realms when this beast is just chilling in a cave somewhere.
same shit! i even decided to lure him out into the arena on the street and along the way threw bombs at him to bring down a little life ) i had to try like 7 times
Took me 3 solid gaming sessions to get past her, because I refused to turn down the difficulty to get past. I hate that you could get trapped behind optional bosses in this game. One of the few complaints I had about this game
I have been playing 40 minutes against a red bar draugr with 2 axes. I can confidently say it was really satisfying learning every attack pattern, but jesus they're such a damage sponge.
I feel like this is one of the only times the devs listened to feedback from the fans the major complaint about 2018 is the lack of boss variety and they outdid themselves with most of the bosses
My biggest complaint about 2018 was how underwhelming the enemy variety was so I'm really glad they had a huge variety of enemies in this game. Now my only complaints are pacing and horrible map and traversal in areas like Vanaheim.
My first thought when finishing GoW Ragnarok: That was awesome! My second thought: There's a ton more bosses in this. I cannot wait for the Demod boss ranking!
Travelers are my favorite enemy/miniboss from the Norse duology. I just love the archetype of a guy with heavy armor and a massive sword, and Santa Monica Studios handled it perfectly. They have a very clear rhythm to them and it punishes you hard for deviating from it. Learn the dance of the Traveler or Kratos is becoming Kebabos.
(WARNING: Hel traveler simping ahead) Fr, they're my favorite mini boss gameplay wise, my fav traveler is the Hel traveler, that armor goes HARD, both figuratively and literally. If I was forced to become a gow helwalker enemy, I'd be the Hel traveler because even though I become an ice zombie, I get unmatchable drip. Anyway here is my favorite gow 2018/Ragnarok bosses in terms of appearance: 1: Hel traveler 2: soul eater (who knew magic rock golems could look so sick?) 3: einjinhar (idk how to spell it) captain (especially if they have gold armor) 4: hildr (niflheim Valkyrie, I'm a sucker for blue and gold color combinations)
I find it funny how they're the only enemy or boss in the game that can't be staggered by your runic attacks, which always guarantee staggering enemies. They're just dudes in armor, yet even the dragons, trolls, and gigantic drakes can be staggered by runic attacks.
The Heimdall fight was one of my favorites, I like how they built him up throughout the game to be an unlikeable asshole, then when Kratos goes to fight him and actually got a hit on him was so cathartic cause that’s the only thing I wanted to do to him as soon as we the players meet him
Omg I adore this game. I can see why you put Hrist and Mist as number 1, but Heimdoll was something else. After all the prodding he does all game, which elevates to pure malice towards Atreus, I became invested in his demise. The fight itself had really interesting mechanics that justified the draupnir with that fight alone. I loved every second of it and seeing Kratos use the detonation ability in a cutscene to blow off his arms left me speechless. Finally putting him down was so cathartic and I felt like even though Kratos may die because of it, it was worth to protect the boy. Heimdoll, Hrist/Mist, Odin, Thor, Puppers, and Niohogg were some of the best fights I've ever played. Well done SSM. I can't wait for the next game.
The Odin fight for me was unforgettable, that first phase we just jumped the ever loving crap out of that old man, cementing in my head exactly why Odin keeps trying to deal with Kratos in roundabout ways. Oh my god what a cathartic beatdown. We combo stunned so hard my combos were going off cooldown in between Freya and Atreus popping off.
GOWR truly had some pretty fun bosses but Gná was my favorite! I liked the approach of going away from just simple "oneshots" to actually give a boss mixups and make them much more unpredictable than others. Honestly can't wait for new game plus and see what they do with her lol
Really? Anyone I’ve talked too has all said that gna “was bad game design and not fun at all.” Which I personally am 50/50 on because I think some of her attacks are a little too unforgiving but she is pretty fun to fight. 😊
Personally having a visual queue when bosses gain hyper armor helped cut down Gna and Berserker difficulty considerably, but in all appreciated compared to the guessing game it used to be
Fighting Ormstunga on Give me a God of War difficulty to this day is one of the most rage inducing things I have ever done and that’s not to be dramatic. I 100% completed this game on the difficulty, and he was my greatest trouble. Fuck that guy.
If you had encountered Ormstunga at the earliest possible point he's accessible to fight, I'm convinced you'd have ranked him last. In addition to being extremely annoying with hit-and-run tactics, he can delete massive portions of your health bar with that red-ring leap attack (even on Give Me Balance), which is sometimes too hard to even see coming with the complex graphical fidelity of the background environment. Not sure how the hell that fight made it through playtesting.
He barely did the jump attack for me plus it's not that hard to avoid you were probably standing behind some thing when he did the attack he also didn't run from me
I fought ormstronga the moment I got the chance and beat him on my second try. To be fair I was highly overleveled because I do all the side quest I can before doing story.
Loved the list, but very surprised to see the Valkyries at the top. Thought outside the arena which was stunning, it was a mid fight at best, struggle to get it in my top 5
Yeah, compared to how epic Baldur was, that was kind of a let down. Still fun, just kinda disappointing it couldn't fill the massive shoes left by Baldur
It was right before the final fight. That's one thing I don't like about the story bosses, they're not properly paced. You'll fight a few of them in quick succession then there's a large part of the game with no unique story bosses.
In my opinion, the best boss ranking you've made in ages (and that is a high bar). the editing and jokes are on point, the analysis is thought provoking and thorough, videos like these are why I love your channel. Thanks Demod, can't wait to see your content continue in 2023
I was very surprised of how good GOWR bosses are. I did every major boss on the hardest mode with my kids and it is a experience I won’t forget in a while. Best bosses in a video game ever IMO.
@@tomasdelcampo2 I have platinumed every from souls game and most of their bosses consist on dodging and hitting (which I’m not saying is bad). The way the bosses are designed in GOWR to fit with the players tools is on another level IMO.
@@cletokings4302 thats a big understatement. i aint as good as you are, and ive only played the dark souls trilogy, and i never even managed to 100% them. theres a tempo or rhythm in the bosses, you ofcourse have to time your dodges, know when to punish and consider your positioning.
A plus for Hirist and Mist is where the fight took place ,the spark of the world is fascinating with double the trouble and they fight harmonically together Homelander: it’s was perfect
Honestly thought every boss was so fun to fight that I didn’t mind them being recycled. Shield throwing a dinosaur whether horned or flying is always cool as fuck.
Honestly the elve bosses i really like and i don't understand complaining about the range attacks when you could dodge and run them down and stun them out of it. And out side of the blue rings she was really easy to stun out of attacks
Favorite fight is Odin, Gungnir being a spear/ wizard staff combo was really cool as was him mostly fighting via ranged magic and the thematic weight and of course Sindri dealing the death blow. The boss variety was definitely a step up from 2018.
Demoodddd! Happy to see content from you! Just like your eleven ring videos, I’m gonna wait until I play the game to watch this video. Love your content man! Hope to see you one of these days back on twitch
Heimdall was way too easy for me personally. I like his first phase when you had to blow him up with the spears and he parried every attack; it would have been interesting if it worked similar to Mr. Freeze from Batman: Arkham City where I had to use different ways to get him close to the spears to blow him up. But after the first three times it became a kinda easy beat down session. Thematically it makes sense as he relied on his foresight to carry him in battle so he never thought to actually train, plus it was UBER satisfying to kick his ass. It was just a lil too easy for my liking
I played the whole thing on GOW mode and each encounter is like a boss fight to the point where the actual bosses are a nice relaxing break from the rest of the game.
The second Thor fight is probably my favorite all due to the amount of legit anger I felt towards him cause everytime as Atreus I felt this dread whenever his name was brought up so to finally put my hands on him as Kratos was so much fun and I loved it. That and the thematic moments in that fight with Kratos wanting to be better for their kids just I love this game so much
Although i wished we changed places once in a while. They could have thor fly you to different places as the fight drags on like the first fight, so we can see the whole Asgard as it gets destroyed by ragnarok at least before ending up in the great lodge.
That is strange, I wonder what made the Valkyries so much better than the Berserkers, because many of their fights are relatively the same too. And I wonder how Demod would fix this if he was the one designing the game Edit: Some complain Heimdall stop dodging, and they didn't like that. For me personally, I feel they could've continued it a bit longer, but as the fight goes on and you do more damage, it makes sense he starts not giving a shit about dodging and putting in actual effort
I think it's the overall visual design and symbolism. Defeating a legendary Valkyrie with their majestic wings and metallic asgardian style armor, their lithe figures. The berserkers are less prestigious and most of them are butt ass ugly especially with their weird ass chunks of glowing armor. It also doesn't help that most of their particle effects and projectiles look too similar to other enemies(compared to the valkyrie's golden particles and feather projectiles)
You mention of Alfheim had me curious... All realms ranked? For the record, I love Alfheim. The ascetic of the temple under Light-Elf control is cool and the story of the factions' ebb-and-flow of control over the light is solid.
The stinnir and sterkr fight really reminded me of smough and ornstein in ds1. One has a hammer, one has a spear. allthough smough and ornstein are way harder
I lucked out with the Gna fight regarding the boulder attacks, since I primarily use sonic arrows in combat by default, and my knee-jerk reaction to most attack windups is to volley the enemy with arrows.
Heimdall & Nidhogg we’re def the most enjoyable/Memorable fights for me in the game. I liked the duo Valkyries but I was just so invested in the story by that point I was just wanting to get past them already to see what happens next. Didn’t really take the time to appreciate it all that much I guess, Same with Garm. Amazing fight & Looking back at it would have also probably been one of my favorites but I didn’t really take a moment to enjoy his fight during as I just wanted to hurry and progress the story lol
Very much like this list and agree with a lot of your decisions. The only area I personally disagree with is your rankings of the phantoms, to me they felt so easy with attacks way to telegraphed. Being able to interrupt over half their attacks with well timed axe throws was a cool idea, but in practice created a boss experience that felt way too easy.
Hi Demod, love your vids. Have you ever thought about doing a community ranking for GoW? I don’t know if the interest would be the same as souls/FromSoft stuff but I would be really interested in the results.
At the time of me commenting this I just beat this game a couple days ago. They really improved on the boss fights compared to the previous game. My favorite bosses were Garm, Nidhogg and Gryla
My favorite boss (havent done all optional bosses) was definitely Nidhogg because it reminded me of playing Monster Hunter but cooler and with a vastly different moveset.
I love the Dreki fights, imo they are perfectly balanced, even the double Dreki fights are still perfectly balanced so that you aren't overwhelmed but are still met with a challenge that can be dealt with rhythmically
Almost off topic, but I’m a huge fan of Thor’s design in this game. He’s got that strongman build like a bloater looking Eddie Hall. Balder made sense with his build because he was a tracker. Thor just uses brute strength to solve all of his problems.
31:00 you’re allowed to not like the appearance if it’s just personal preference, but in classically mythology Thor is literally described as fat with a red hair and red beard. This is the most culture accurate Thor we’ve ever had in media
Crazy, Phantom would be the absolute bottom for me. Every fight I just threw the axe 7-8 times, then ran in to stagger, hit pillar, rinse and repeat. I thought they were awful.
Phantoms are cake. If he played on GMGoW he would have had a different experience and perspective. I beat every boss on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage. Check them out on my channel and you'll see who's really tough. Build and difficulty included in each.
It didn't even strike me to detonate the spear while Heimdall was holding it. Spent the entire battle throwing spears at the ground and detonating them when he walked past them towards me.
Gna was brutal, felt so satisfying when I finally took her down though. Really enjoyed the challenge she and King Hrolf Kraki provided after the conclusion of the story. For story bosses they delivered in spades. Hrist and Mist, Garm, Nidhogg, Heimdall, Thor, Odin, all great encounters.
Agreed. There were several boss moments that really gave me pause. Bjorn, when you realize you’ve been beating on your child for several minutes. Thor shattering the fourth wall to pull out his field defibrillator. Odin getting smacked around by three gods who united and overcame so much heartache to put an end to the mad kind. Heimdall going feral after taking just a single blow, unable to fathom an enemy better than him. But man, Hrist and Mist getting smashed and then my son and I raging out to bring their corrupted vision of Valhalla to an end, surrounded by the Spark of the World, the literal fires of creation? Oh, and my son turns once more into the bear that started this whole journey? Gods, that was an intensely narratively satisfying spectacle.
Purely from a gameplay perspective, Gna is my favorite boss. I love that the developers new we'd miss the Valkyrie fights from 2018, so they threw one in that was actually justified and foreshadowed by the story! She scratches the Sigrun itch on every level, with an endurance-based challenge with a wide moveset yet fair openings with a great back-and-forth flow to the fight.
Indeed. Only by playing on GMGoW can one see how Gna stands apart. I beat her on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage. Every other boss too. Check it out on this channel. Difficulty and build shown in each.
They are. Gna is objectively tougher. Quality over quantity. Check out both Valkyries fights and every other done on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage, on this channel.
5:19 I actually managed to get the good dance with her mainly because she was a quick one for me and I was able to dodge her unblockabled all too well. While the hateful was the most difficult boss for me to beat due to the gank and its movepool
I remember Freya saying “are you sure you want to fight that, he’s the alpha” when approaching the werewolf boss fight, and then proceeded to kill him without taking damage because he’s quite literally the same as the rest I thought. Still I wouldn’t say it’s a negative, I still enjoyed every fight I took in this game.
I'm surprised with Hrist and Mist being number 1. I honestly didn't even see some of the moves they use, because they are the boss that suffers the most from thr player getting upgrades and overleveling the fight. They die so fast you won't get much enjoyment even on higher difficulties.
Berserker duo: absolutely amazing fight, incredible multi boss that is rewarding to defeat. Berserker trio: ass garbage shit fuck piss shit. Such counter intuitive way of assigning aggression, and on GMGOW it feels like a luck fest.
I don't know think hrist and must shouldn't be too because I didn't find it hard or rewarding though it was a good fight. It might've been because I had just come from killing the Valkyries in gow 4 but idk.
I love how different the two final superbosses gameplay loop is. For hrolf, I felt so confident after beating the other zerkers so it felt like a dps race, using all my runic abilities to blow him up. Vs gna, she punished me hard for using abilities so I had to simplify gameplay and basically just use axe and swing. The two fights being so different yet designed to be fought around the same power level is so sick
I'm not. When you don't play on GMGoW you get away with such stuff. Check out this channel to see every boss beat on GMGoW without taking hit or using rage. Build and difficulty shown.
The last fight against Thor disappointed me as well. It lacked both spectacle and challenge. The first fight at the start of the game was way more intense which I thought was odd. Kratos’ diary notes Mjonir’s blow was “as heavy as he ever felt” so I thought ok sht Kratos finally met his match and its gonna be a crazy battle, but no, Kratos manhandles him without even trying too hard.
It would be amazing if we had the Kraken in this game that I think there would be a fight against him in Svartalheim and Midgard It's a shame he didn't put him in this game it would be an incredible fight and I think he could be that Durlin octopus that could come in the future becoming a boss like the Kraken we know and another is what happened to the Dragons we released in the 1st game If they appearing in this game as allies or we can fight against and kill them It would be a cool that's it shame didn't happen Just like the pets of Freyr,Thor and Odin the boar, wolves, goats and horse that did not appear and they were not used in the final battle They would be a great side quest going after them and saving them and seeing them in the game since they are very important to these Gods and not having them is a huge pain and makes no sense... a shame it didn't happen as well not have as many others Norse Kings/Heroes of Norse Mythology and not have more Gods of Asgard & Vanaheim and not have more Valkyries who did not appear In the game they are mandatory to be there It's a big pain in my heart that they weren't put in the game... Because they are very important and should be in the game and this game It had great potential that could be much better with these things and elements for the game's plot and in history what we had in the original who how easily could have put it in the Game but they didn't do that I hope they are included all of this in more story dlcs or the next game I hope that happens 🤔😭😔🤧🙏🙏 like and Bye!
I started the game in "no mercy". Took me almost 100h to platinum playing on this setting. Some bosses and even sub bosses were very challenging. The damage they deal is insane playing on hard. Even though it took much more time than i expected i enjoyed the battles (some of then made me rage quit a lotta times, but still was a good challenge, specially Gná and the berserker king).
16:12 I didn’t realize that Bödvar was one of the beserkers, lmao, I feel like if he was his own boss, they could’ve integrated some sort of bear related attacks, idk 🤷♂️
My problem with the Crimson Dread was that it was just buggy. I didn't get to actually do the fight instead I had to look up a tutorial on how to deal with the bug and beat him by using the spear to slowly push him off his perch and get him to fall out the world when he flies off and dies
Wasn't bugged for me. I beat it and every other dragon and boss on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage. Check em out on this channel. Build and difficulty shown on each.
Tbf i thought the phantoms were far too easy, once i figured out the goal was to stay back and spear them from afar, all while dodging easy to dodge attacks, they became basically a spear throwing contest for a while with no chance of fail
They are incredibly easy. You're not wrong, he is. I beat every Phantom including the Phantom challenge on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage. Peep em on this channel. Build and difficulty shown.
Totally agree on the checkpoints of the story bosses. If I died and didn't start at the beginning, I felt like I cheated and it robbed me of my FromSoft like feelings of satisfaction
Svipdagr and the Sister were extremely frustrating for me on GMGOW on my first playthrough. Really gave me the Foreskin duo vibes plus a cherry of RNG on top. Can't wait for NG+...
I took way too long making this, but had a blast. I hope it's worth the wait!

@@theanonymousfanatic so was Odin which was very disappointing I was expecting there fights to be way harder

Considering the first troll you encounter is IMMEDIATELY decapitated by Kratos, I think the rest of them sucking is fitting.
I was so relieved when that happened, absolutely sick of them from 2018.
@@tortoiseoflegends4466 yeah the devs literally spoke to us with that scene, they were like “we know brother, we know” 😂
Yeah the developers really TROLLED us with that encounter.
I honestly thought there were no more Trolls in the game and that the one you find and decapitate was a reference to that.
It is said on the journal that kratos killed that troll so fast because the wagon crash left the group in the perfect position to deal a killing blow
Personally, I'd swap #1 and #2.Not only was fighting Heimdall unique and fun, finally overpowering him and beating him to a bloody pulp was immensely satisfying.
Like kratos’s frustration
The end when Mimir fell onto the ground, that didn’t fill me with satisfaction…that filled me with fear of what was to come-🥲
I wouldn’t because the duo beat down with the quick time event was amazing
Agreed, strongly agreed
@@anthonyrodriguez8788 don’t forget The Last Spartan who is the second strongest character in the entire franchise
@thats4thebirds lol Same here I powered through the fight on no mercy out of spite.
@@gunpowderhoes3492 Yep the Berserkers were ranked extremely low. How are the phantoms and bjorn better lol.
When the raven keeper fight started and saw that it was a revenant I literally screamed “GULVIG!” 💀💀💀
Bruh lmao
🤣 🤣 🤣
"Bring me her bones, child!"
Not my beloved gulvig
Sweet revennnnnnge! 😂
Heimdall was definitely my favorite Boss. Throughout the fight I was like "dude, just stay down!"
Reaching that balance is super difficult, but this game does it seamlessly. The battle against Heimdall in particular was *chef's kiss*

The shared Kratos + Atreus QTE for Hrist & Mist is one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced in a video game. Had me yelling out of excitement, such a badass moment!

When I faced Hrist and Mist I thought I was over leveled because of the green bar, and then they started powering up, and I began dying a lot...
For real. I was in the same boat as you and that little s*** ruined my day
Both that, and the maven, did he rank the maven??? Or is it a pack with alva?
Omg same here, I HATED that little thing. My wife came downstairs and was like, "wtf is that? kill it!" "I'M TRYING I PROMISE". 😆
I love the fact you completely forgot / neglected to include the librarian, who's Alva, but worse.
dude I was stuck on her for so long she was purple for me and I couldn't skip her
Took me 3 solid gaming sessions to get past her, because I refused to turn down the difficulty to get past. I hate that you could get trapped behind optional bosses in this game. One of the few complaints I had about this game
@@dbjm88 dude this was literally what happened to me, she had a purple health bar.
Plus you don't even kill her which makes the encounter so annoying
Maven
I have been playing 40 minutes against a red bar draugr with 2 axes. I can confidently say it was really satisfying learning every attack pattern, but jesus they're such a damage sponge.
I'm happy to see Heimdall so high on this list. He was my personal favorite boss of the game both from a gameplay and narrative stance.
I just liked the fight since I wanted to kill his cocky @$$
(WARNING: Hel traveler simping ahead)
Fr, they're my favorite mini boss gameplay wise, my fav traveler is the Hel traveler, that armor goes HARD, both figuratively and literally. If I was forced to become a gow helwalker enemy, I'd be the Hel traveler because even though I become an ice zombie, I get unmatchable drip. Anyway here is my favorite gow 2018/Ragnarok bosses in terms of appearance:
1: Hel traveler
2: soul eater (who knew magic rock golems could look so sick?)
3: einjinhar (idk how to spell it) captain (especially if they have gold armor)
4: hildr (niflheim Valkyrie, I'm a sucker for blue and gold color combinations)
Imagine if they add hirst and mist move sets to gna for new game +
Really? Anyone I’ve talked too has all said that gna “was bad game design and not fun at all.” Which I personally am 50/50 on because I think some of her attacks are a little too unforgiving but she is pretty fun to fight. 😊
7:51 THAT TRANSITION WAS SICK
Personally having a visual queue when bosses gain hyper armor helped cut down Gna and Berserker difficulty considerably, but in all appreciated compared to the guessing game it used to be
Fighting Ormstunga on Give me a God of War difficulty to this day is one of the most rage inducing things I have ever done and that’s not to be dramatic. I 100% completed this game on the difficulty, and he was my greatest trouble. Fuck that guy.
Ormstunga literally took me 20 tries.
Yup, so true
Same lol
He's a beast. I got lucky I missed him early and went back supremely overgeared
I had a harder time on it than the 3 berserkers fight !
Her red attack is so BS.
Probably one of the hardest fights in the game for me
If you had encountered Ormstunga at the earliest possible point he's accessible to fight, I'm convinced you'd have ranked him last.
Yeah, it's kind of a messy fight and other than the setting the spectacles aren't that great either. I much preferred the fight with Gna.
That second thor fight could've been so much more...
Yeah, compared to how epic Baldur was, that was kind of a let down. Still fun, just kinda disappointing it couldn't fill the massive shoes left by Baldur
@@Yougotcaged102 But you also fight Odin afterwards
It lacked spectacle I guess but boss mechanics wise it was actually very fun
it could have been more epic not in gameplay but cinematically just like in the first fight
I’d personally put 2018 above this one, but it was still an amazing experience to have!
Compared to some other games like Fromsoft/team ninja ones or DMC5 they were mostly pretty underwhelming
@@tomasdelcampo2 I have platinumed every from souls game and most of their bosses consist on dodging and hitting (which I’m not saying is bad). The way the bosses are designed in GOWR to fit with the players tools is on another level IMO.
@@cletokings4302 Sekiro bosses would disagree.
@@cletokings4302 thats a big understatement. i aint as good as you are, and ive only played the dark souls trilogy, and i never even managed to 100% them. theres a tempo or rhythm in the bosses, you ofcourse have to time your dodges, know when to punish and consider your positioning.
A plus for Hirist and Mist is where the fight took place ,the spark of the world is fascinating with double the trouble and they fight harmonically together
Homelander: it’s was perfect
It really was.
Honestly thought every boss was so fun to fight that I didn’t mind them being recycled. Shield throwing a dinosaur whether horned or flying is always cool as fuck.
Dmod placing a double boss at number one is the biggest plot twist of the century *I'M SHOCKED!*
I've got Odin and every boss beaten on GMGoW without getting hit or using rage. Check it out on this channel.
The ancients have always been one of my favorite bosses, I know that their easy but their just so satisfying to fight.
Demoodddd! Happy to see content from you! Just like your eleven ring videos, I’m gonna wait until I play the game to watch this video. Love your content man! Hope to see you one of these days back on twitch
Planning to revisit Twitch early in the new year. Have some speedrun ideas to crossover with RUclips content!
Just finished the Platinum Trophy for this game, so you're right on time. Thank you! 🙂
Gna was probably the best designed boss
During Gná, Freya literally says “Soundstone!”, telling you that you can shoot a sonic arrow at it and destroy it beforehand.
That is strange, I wonder what made the Valkyries so much better than the Berserkers, because many of their fights are relatively the same too. And I wonder how Demod would fix this if he was the one designing the game
Edit: Some complain Heimdall stop dodging, and they didn't like that.
Just 100% the game earlier today. This couldn't come at a better time.
Gna in Give me God of War was hell, but extremely fair.
You mention of Alfheim had me curious...
All realms ranked?
For the record, I love Alfheim. The ascetic of the temple under Light-Elf control is cool and the story of the factions' ebb-and-flow of control over the light is solid.
I agree, God of War's elf designs are my favorites. The Light Elves look almost spirit-like and ethereal
The stinnir and sterkr fight really reminded me of smough and ornstein in ds1. One has a hammer, one has a spear. allthough smough and ornstein are way harder
Heimdall is one of my favorite boss fights ever. I love bosses that taunt you, then get more and more frustrated as you start to win.
I love the use of the persona 5 music when talking about the "phantoms" at 16:58
I lucked out with the Gna fight regarding the boulder attacks, since I primarily use sonic arrows in combat by default, and my knee-jerk reaction to most attack windups is to volley the enemy with arrows.
Glad you posted the video, this is one ranking video I been looking forward to
Finally someone who actually gives odins boss battle credit
7:51 THAT TRANSITION IS CLEANNN
Tweaking. Berserkers are more fun than Valkyries
Man the berserker king kicked my butt for several days, very painful but absolutely my second favorite fight under gna
I’m sad to admit Ormstunga was the hardest boss for me (I fought him after freeing Tyr).
Agreed. I thought the drakes and Wyverns were way better.
Right as he said "you stagger, I stagger, we all stagger." the video staggered by buffering. Could not be more perfectly timed! 😂
Welcome Back DeMod
We Missed ya....
The sonic spring when Kratos launched Atreus of the chains is genius and it needs to be in game 🤣
Build and difficulty included in each.
realm shift as a gimmick for heimdals boss fight was awesome sine realm shift was all i used in 2018
It didn't even strike me to detonate the spear while Heimdall was holding it.
Hrist & Mist is an example of a QTE done perfectly. I was so pumped up when i finished that fight
What about The Maven? The Light Elf librarian that Kratos spares? That was a boss.
"We all hate Alfheim"

I honestly thought that hrist and mist were one of the middle rank bosses
Bro last time I was this early Fenrir was still a snarling monster

I'm surprised he didn't know that sonic arrows destroys the rocks in both Valkyrie fights.
I'm not. When you don't play on GMGoW you get away with such stuff. Check out this channel to see every boss beat on GMGoW without taking hit or using rage. Build and difficulty shown.
Hrist and Mist, hands down the best boss battle.
Odin's battle on the other hand is the biggest disappointment.
Odin was a 1st try kill for me on GMGoW. Huge disappointment to put it mildly.
That chapter name for Gryla...

Because they are very important and should be in the game and this game It had great potential that could be much better with these things and elements for the game's plot and in history what we had in the original who how easily could have put it in the Game but they didn't do that
I hope they are included all of this in more story dlcs or the next game I hope that happens 🤔😭😔🤧🙏🙏 like and Bye!
Me right now!!
Wanna see not just Gna and Hrolf but every boss beaten without taking a hit or using rage on GMGoW? Well you can on this channel.
Damn, he back! Thanks for the content, Demod! Glad to see raven keeper was disrespected as much as she deserved

I didn’t realize that Bödvar was one of the beserkers, lmao, I feel like if he was his own boss, they could’ve integrated some sort of bear related attacks, idk 🤷♂️
IKR I’ve just made saves before each fight now.
I don’t beat the bosses until I’ve done the whole thing with one health bar
yeah I always made sure to do a manual save at the beginning of every story boss.
Svipdagr and the Sister were extremely frustrating for me on GMGOW on my first playthrough. Really gave me the Foreskin duo vibes plus a cherry of RNG on top. Can't wait for NG+...
