I love the Heimdal fight. The attention to detail in it just blows my mind. On the first combo Kratos is testing the waters, see how heimdal reacts. The second time he’s throwing tight fast punches and makes contact and once he hits Heimdal it’s already over, Heimdal begins to doubt his ability and he’s never had to train to actually fight. Such a good boss fight, a tad easy if I’m honest but still my favourite
#1 boss fight is the Troll in Savartlheim, with Kratos killing in all of 2 seconds. I feel like it was a nod with the community feedback of too many reskinned Troll fights in the 2018 game.
Garm to me is the perfect blend between old and new God of War. Kratos climbing a giant enemy to kill it like his young self only to spare it and turn it into an ally like his newly calmer self
I loved both Thor fights but I very much agree with you on the scale I think it could have been much grander especially because they both are ridiculously strong picking each other up and hurling each other like nothing
Yeah the trio Beserkers were rough. They amplified some of the issues with the combat and were a nightmare at the higher difficulties. Even when I was levelled up they were rough.
Seen people playing the game on lower difficulty while posting "give me GOW mode no damage boss fight" shits annoying, you can tell immediately based on their attack patterns and types of attacks they use. I was mostly interested to see your top 3 bosses and I can fully agree for your choices. Gna provides a fast paced and hefty challenge for new Valkyrie fighters, and for veteran Valkyrie fighters, felt like both a reward and a fresh test. She brings nearly everything Sigrun provided in the last game and then some to make her still a unique fight. Plus the way she and Freya play off each other and how, in moments when Kratos is caught by her, Freya is quick to step in and get you free? Real good stuff to help display the trust and teamwork those two provide each other. Thor 1 really set up the game perfectly didn't it? As you already mentioned the opening cutscene with the meeting with Thor and Odin was tense and engaging, and then the fight as a whole was a spectacle. Others things I liked is how it gradually escalates. The fight starts as just a good ol fashion fisticuffs. And while Kratos and whipping out combos and shield attacks, Thor's just clapping his hands and occasionally charging. We are doing everything we can, but Thor's barely loosened up. Bonus for the banter from Thor that not only calls out Kratos, but the player as well. I especially recall the one where he says "I see youre trying to remember your old moves". Called Us OUT. Then we get the axe back; But Thor is Still using just his hands and keeping up! We now have a weapon, but Thor doesnt even consider that a threat despite us nearly gutting him. A scene transition later and he Finally whips out the hammer. Fun thing I noticed is, Thor not only seems to be left handed, but the snapping to control his hammer adds so much more to who this guy is. He's not wielding Mjolnir like Kratos does the Leviathan Axe; Thor is COMMANDING the Hammer. After the final scene transition, Thor finally starts to go all out with lightning, hammer, and hand attacks. It's gradual but it builds up more and more til it is finally a complete spectacle at the very end and it is Glorious! And Garm being the top pick I cant disagree with either. It's a better version of the dragon fight from the first game, and not only that but how the whole mission builds up to this beast. Were hunting it for the most part and it keeps getting away. And when we try either Kratos or Atreaus's strategies; neither work for their own reasons. It's not til the last section where they combine their plans together that they can finally best him. A good example to show that neither of them alone will be able to handle Ragnarök and Odin. For the entire game prior, these two have been trying to handle it on their own, and Garm is there push to see if they can finally get along with each other to work together. And for me personally, since the release of GoW 2018; the one fight I wanted most back then was a fight with Fenrir. Little did I know the monkey's paw I apparently triggered from it. Cause not only did I have to wait til the sequel, but it wasn't even "Fenrir" I'd get to fight. And yet the fight still paid off all my hopes of what could come from facing a titanic, ravenous, and too angry to die wolf. And in the end? Fenrir was actually the reward for beating Garm! I was ecstatic with it all.

The berserkers were fantastic on hardest difficulty imo, think doing the combat correctly is a lot more satisfying. Agree the trio and the gank with smaller mobs were the most frustrating fights in the game. But the duo berserkers were quite well balanced with agro I thought. They never attack you at the same time.
The duo and trio Berserkers aren't random in their attack patterns, but, as you said repeatedly, you never really learned the fighting mechanics. For the trio, only one of the twins and the main Berserker are focused on you at any one time until either the main or twins are killed. They actually take turns with their attacks which causes you to have to account for both at the same time but allows you to block, dodge, or deflect the attacks depending on what they are. For the duo, the game decides which is the aggressor against you; you only get to choose the one you start fighting until the first switch occurs. They have an obvious tell that they are switching too. Both fights though come down to patience so that is up to you to learn.

These are genuinely the only real boss fights in the game tho, everything else is either a mini-boss. The game is amazing with its narrative but I don’t understand why they had to tone the cinematography with the boss fight to fit this narrative.
I think the lack of spectacle in the Thor 2 fight can be explained, with Baldur and Thor 1 they're both fighting to fight, it's not a very direct situation. Whereas with the Thor 2 fight he's fighting in probably the most dire situation possible, therefore would focus only on dealing with kratos as fast as possible
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with sprinkling in some of the old bosses/enemies from the first god of war, considering how many more new bosses/enemies we get in the game. I especially like how some of the older enemies have newer attacks or some mixups, like the travelers
Glad the Phantoms got some love, other then their cool visual design, I love their sound design as well! Their creaks and crackling sounds fit with the lore of them being living magic so well, plus it's just sounds cool!
One boss battle that you forgot that I liked was The Everlasting. I like it out of all the dragon boss battles cuz of the fire and ice powers that it has. Other than the, it's the same as the other bosses
The reason they don’t add NG+ at launch is because they usually add a good bit of content to the NG+ mode. NG+ in God of War 2018 came out four months after the games launch and added the best armor sets and relics in the game, as well as altering bosses move sets to be more difficult m. NG+ for God of War Ragnarok will likely come out in the following months and will probably bring a lot with it. I’m hoping we get the Zues armor set back.
I will die on the hill that GoW 2018 Valkyrie Queen fight is harder than Malenia. On standard difficulty, they're pretty comparable, but as soon as you bump up the difficulty, especially to GmGoW, it gets more difficult than almost every souls boss. Gna doesn't live up to that difficulty, and the berserker king it much harder. I think the fight is so hard because there's no healing, whereas souls games let you heal multiple times throughout the fight, and there's not as much stuff to cycle through. You also have a better dodge mechanic in souls, plus consumables, plus spirit ashes in elden ring. I'm only bringing this up because I think it's so wild that one of the hardest video game bosses comes from a game not particularly known for high difficulty
Fun fact: Dreki means “Dragon” I found this out while playing around with google translate, putting all the weirdest names through and seeing what they meant, I don’t remember what language it was though
From someone who has Platinum trophy’d this game, I like this list. And I am very particular about these bosses in Ragnarok. There are a few big changes I would make to this list but overall well done. And yes the Double Berserkers are the most annoying bosses in the game. They might’ve been tolerable if Freya could at least hold one off for a while and distract it from you. The King Berserker is amazing and Gńa was incredible. Odin was awesome but I was expecting a lot more spectacle and mind games from that confrontation. But I do like having both Atreus and Freya with you :)
I agree, Hrolff and Gna were incredible. i died about 100 times to each of them, but finally beating them was a satisfaction I haven’t experienced in gaming in a long, long time
U just earned another subscriber and yeah I get why u were mildly disappointed with the ending honestly i felt it should have been a trilogy where the second game is about the consequences of Fimbulwinter then the third game is Ragnarok
Gna fight is pretty similar to sigrun fight in god of war 2018 with a few additional eliments like bifrost. The reason why it feels unique because it has been used a lot in 2018.
I don't know what did it for me but the Thor 2 fight was amazing. I think the main aspect for me was the music the music just sold every bit of that fight.
Awesome list man I mostly agree. Great variety of bosses in this game and some really epic moments. I do kind of agree about the final ragnarok fights lacking a little bit of grandiosity and scale, especially compared to the original GOW trilogy, but even still this game probably has the best roster of unique and high quality fights in the whole series. Also I'd really suggest going back in on the top 2 difficulties as these bosses and the combat system in general really shine on these difficulties, I find defense in this game extremely fun and I think that's why it's such a brilliant system, parries, blocks and dodges feel awesome to pull off and master, just as much as OP runics and weapon attacks.
Because of all the previous Berserker fights, I got into such a flow state against King Hrolf that I put away my weapons for his last health bar and finished him off bare-handed to flex on him 😅 And I was on Give Me God of War
My experience with Gna and King Hrolf Kraki was a bit different. I think I died more to King Hrolf compared to Gna. Reason for this being my first playthrough was on Give Me GOW difficulty so he hit like a tank. I had little to no margin for error but I felt I had more leniency with Gna. She was faster than Hrolf but Hrolfs attacks killed me more often than hers. So I think I was more prepared for Gna as I fought Hrolf first.
The berserker king on give me god of war was pure agony for me. It was the last thing I had to do for the platinum and I absolutely POPPED OFF when I killed him.
I would really would have liked a more extended ending but other than that the only problem I have with this game is that I wanted heimdall to be more brutalised
If you haven't already you should play the Valkyries from the previous GoW! They only have ONE gank fight, which was the worst of them all obv. They're a bit recycled but have enough gimmicks to set them apart to make the fights enjoyable. So much better than the Berzerkers. All in all I liked this game more but the previous had better optional bosses imo
i personally enjoy thor second fight the most it is very fun and it shows his character development this is the only boss i had a hard time with besides the beserkers
This is such a good list, Also mild correction : (spoilers) Odin actually got killed if i remember correctly. His soul got put into one of those balls in which the giants reside, which sindri proceeded to smash with his hammer for revenge (if i recall correctly) so his soul got destroyed
The stonewall shield saved my ass against the three berserkers jumping me. Thanks Santa Monica studios but if you’re going to make a trio Bossfight don’t, make it a dark souls trio Bossfight because those suck ass.
hey guys, does someone know the name of the song at 11:19 ? it's so good Great video as well!! It's nice to reminisce about all the bosses in this amazing game
I love the Nidhogg fight but i personally think it's a bit messed up that the boss with one of the most brutal executions is the one who's the least deserving (iirc freya even says nidhogg isn't odin's beast). Odin and Heimdall would've been more satisfying to see get annihilated but they got off super easy in comparison.
19:16 I believe that the ö in Scandinavian is pronounced similarly to the u in "burn", the ea in "Earth" and the e in "fern" in English. It's a bit like the fusion between the e and an o, to the point of some translations using oe for it, so pronouncing the phonem e (as in the a from "may") with your tongue while moving your lips as if you were going to say o is a good tip on how to say it. So I think Niðhögg could be said like ""nith-hug"", the same with Jötunheim (""y-uh-toon-heym""), Jörmungandr (""Yur-moon-gand-r"") and Björn ("""bee-urn"""), but with more emphasis on the o in the "uh"s. Of course, you could always use anglicization. "Ǫ" from old norse is usually translated as ö I think to a merge in middle ages Iceland, but it actually sounded more like the open o in "not", "lot" and "thought". So Svartáljǫfurr from the last game could be pronounced as """svar‐ta-lyaw-foor""" or something like this. It should be noticed that many mythological names that use ö nowadays used the ǫ in old norse, so some of the names would sound different with an historical pronunciation.
I haven played ragnorok yet but I've seen alot of god Ragnorok content to feel confident in saying balder and sigrun could be the best engaging boss fights compared to ragnarok from the last game
Glad Maven kicked someone elses ass too, that was the git gud moment for me where I really had to learn the parry/dodge/combo mechanics. Since you can’t go level up and/or get ragestone once you’ve started the fight you just have to git gud
the dialogue in the game suggests that the Hateful was an Empress in life, which from what i know are normally women (i think mimir refers to her with feminine terms anyways lol)
If asgard looked more awe inspiring the final Thor battle would have been more epic. Not saying it's bad tho. Changing arenas mid fight through a sick quick time event would have been cool too.
There’s not much inherently wrong with the Soul Eaters/Ancients, and honestly, these guys & the Hateful are only there for the weapon upgrades (before the Draupnir Spear showed up, at least).
the trio is easier once u figure out the pattern. the more damage u do the more the sisters will attack and theres zero point in trying to take then out first tbh
Killing Heimdall was cathartic. He was just this over-the-top asshole that you usually don't see in these kinds of games. He reminds me of the rich trust fund brat that treats everyone like shit because they're basically immune to consequence. Speaking as someone who has dealt with people like that, choking the life from him comes with this sense of satisfaction that you just don't get anywhere else.
The fight with hemidal (sorry for the spelling) was good, but also disappointing. I thought that we would see more wrath, anger, destruction kinda like thor since he’s the god that can see everything
That why i hate playing in easy mode on action game, I couldn't fully learn the mechanics of the game because it was too easy but when the highest difficulty was raised in the middle of the game it made the experience so it's very messy because the difficulties experienced are suddenly difficult and make progress seem annoying because you haven't fully studied the mechanics in the game because of easy mode
I played God of war Ragnarok in difficult GMGOW from the start (mechanically it can only be played from the start), and I learned a lot of mechanical things even just starting, very difficult and torturous, but trust me this is satisfying
Watching boss gameplay on Balanced difficulty after completing the game on GMGOW is so uncomfortable lol. Like I have trauma from hits that one shot me on GMGOW but am watching them do 1/10 of your hp. I am absolutely cooked
Yeh it does feel like it's your first playthrough Also hrist and mist, tht is like my faverite fight in the game. Gna is second place, I fukin love valkyries
I woulda put heimdall at 3 tbh behind the first Thor fight and odin fight but heimdall was my favorite I only put him behind Thor and odin because they are bigger for the story
As a long time god of war fan, most of the bosses listed where mini-bosses, even bjorn. Saying he’s the first boss fight is not true in my opinion sure he may have the Health of one but Thor IS the FIRST boss fight, shit I don’t even count this version of the Light Elves due to the climatic ways the old ones and even GOW 2018 handled it’s real boss fights. Baldur and the dragon. Magni and Modi inspired more hype in me than the Heimdall boss fight😢. I mean it’s Heimdall a goddamn Aesir, I expected them all to fight like they going to Valhalla.
Heimdall was my personal favorite. Both a very creative and very satisfying boss.
I almost put him even higher, but it is missing a bit of the cinematic quality of the top picks. He is so fun to fight though
Too bad he doesnt have an unique music

NG+ in God of War 2018 came out four months after the games launch and added the best armor sets and relics in the game, as well as altering bosses move sets to be more difficult m. NG+ for God of War Ragnarok will likely come out in the following months and will probably bring a lot with it. I’m hoping we get the Zues armor set back.
@@lejenddairy fair point actually
The Hateful is actually a woman who was so angry she just didnt die

Reminds me of Taniks.
Man I just can't wait for a New Game Plus
Fun fact: Dreki means “Dragon”
I found this out while playing around with google translate, putting all the weirdest names through and seeing what they meant, I don’t remember what language it was though
I agree, Hrolff and Gna were incredible. i died about 100 times to each of them, but finally beating them was a satisfaction I haven’t experienced in gaming in a long, long time
I really liked this game. I cannot stop watching RUclips videos on it
I love how the dark souls 2 Majula music plays goes hard fr fr
Most underrated youtuber
The ending was disappointing but i think the entire journey to get there made up for it and it was still very good
Great vid, forgot raven keeper which you fight after killing all the ravens and returning to niflheim.
Because of all the previous Berserker fights, I got into such a flow state against King Hrolf that I put away my weapons for his last health bar and finished him off bare-handed to flex on him 😅 And I was on Give Me God of War
#1 - First Thor Fight
#2 - Garm
#3 - Second Thor Fight
#4 - Hrist & Mist
#5 - Heimdall
#6 - Odin
#7 - Freya/VANADIS
Solid takes. Anything above Vanadis could honestly be in almost any position!
My personal favorite is "The Corpse Eater," a dragon that can be found in Vanaheim.
Came for the Ruffle My Feathers, Stayed for the Rustle my Jimmies! Great Video! Subbbbbed.
I laughed out of my lungs when i killed the troll with 2 runic attacks
My experience with Gna and King Hrolf Kraki was a bit different. I think I died more to King Hrolf compared to Gna. Reason for this being my first playthrough was on Give Me GOW difficulty so he hit like a tank. I had little to no margin for error but I felt I had more leniency with Gna. She was faster than Hrolf but Hrolfs attacks killed me more often than hers. So I think I was more prepared for Gna as I fought Hrolf first.
You missed the story entirely on the hateful. She’s the same draugr every time. You fight her multiple times and learn more after every fight
The garm fight I couldn’t do it every time you hit it garm would cry 😂😂
Heimdall felt so good because it was the kind of encounter you would expect in GOW3. Maybe that's a hint to the devs.
i basically love all bosses i've beaten the game now currently on my second run now that i kinda mastered parrying i just love a challenge
The berserker king on give me god of war was pure agony for me. It was the last thing I had to do for the platinum and I absolutely POPPED OFF when I killed him.
that fight so so so so so hard, i kiled him fast and i did it no damage
This is such a good list,
Also mild correction :
(spoilers)
Odin actually got killed if i remember correctly.
The disrespect that he chose Majula(DS2) theme for the last ranked boss xD
You missed the raven keeper boss in nifhelheim followed by the dragon if you defeat it. You have to kill all the ravens in order to face those bosses
hey guys, does someone know the name of the song at 11:19 ? it's so good
Great video as well!! It's nice to reminisce about all the bosses in this amazing game
oh, just remember. God Skin theme haha
I am very disappointed that there was no finishing move for the drakes
Yeah looking back on the footage that kinda bummed me out too
I love the Nidhogg fight but i personally think it's a bit messed up that the boss with one of the most brutal executions is the one who's the least deserving (iirc freya even says nidhogg isn't odin's beast). Odin and Heimdall would've been more satisfying to see get annihilated but they got off super easy in comparison.
Loved the list! I would have ranked Heimdall above Odin. Odin's boss fight seemed slightly tacked on to me.
5:19 that was in god of war 2018 also as a upgrade you could get but it was only for breaking shields and that was it
I haven played ragnorok yet but I've seen alot of god Ragnorok content to feel confident in saying balder and sigrun could be the best engaging boss fights compared to ragnarok from the last game
Imo sigrun hasn't been topped but baldur has
@@friend4596 Sigrun will always be my favorite boss in the god of war franchise, from a gameplay perspective.
With the hateful. You do have 4 fights with the hateful but it's not 4 separate draugr. It's implied it's all the same one resurrecting
If asgard looked more awe inspiring the final Thor battle would have been more epic. Not saying it's bad tho. Changing arenas mid fight through a sick quick time event would have been cool too.
The final battle with Odin was so underwhelming I expected the fight to be way more cinematic like the Baldur fights or the first Thor fight
Never saw the giant fight to be so high
There’s not much inherently wrong with the Soul Eaters/Ancients, and honestly, these guys & the Hateful are only there for the weapon upgrades (before the Draupnir Spear showed up, at least).
Ya know for odin being such a manipulative boss i didn't think the boss fight was gonna be too good
Did trio berserkers on 2nd hardest diff with purple health bars, diabolical fight
I am actually ASTONISHED you put Garm THAT high up. Garms fight was quite meh.
good video is it ok if I ask you a question
My fav bosses are
1.1st thor
2.garm
3.king of bersekers
4.2nd thor
5.heimdall_alva
6.nidhog
7.gna
8.dreki
9.odin
10.the hammer berseker
Nidhogg was my fave for sure
It’s weird that Bodvar and Hjalti aren’t the duo instead because they are a duo in Hrólf’s saga.
You forgot the sleeping trolls and the sleeping Dragon
love the video but maven should be higher , that is a sick fight with an amazing side story
My list:
1. Odin
2. Thor 2
3. Hrist&Mist
4. Heimdall
5. Thor 1
Go back to 2018 god of war and fight sigrun, to me she’s 2nd to Malenia when it comes to difficulty
the trio is easier once u figure out the pattern. the more damage u do the more the sisters will attack and theres zero point in trying to take then out first tbh
I think god of war games do duo bosses better than most souls duo bosses
Killing Heimdall was cathartic. He was just this over-the-top asshole that you usually don't see in these kinds of games. He reminds me of the rich trust fund brat that treats everyone like shit because they're basically immune to consequence. Speaking as someone who has dealt with people like that, choking the life from him comes with this sense of satisfaction that you just don't get anywhere else.
The fight with hemidal (sorry for the spelling) was good, but also disappointing. I thought that we would see more wrath, anger, destruction kinda like thor since he’s the god that can see everything
No repeat bosses you said, dragons, phantoms beserker dreki are all repeat bosses though
I played God of war Ragnarok in difficult GMGOW from the start (mechanically it can only be played from the start), and I learned a lot of mechanical things even just starting, very difficult and torturous, but trust me this is satisfying
watching in 144p at the same time 1080p :')
Watching boss gameplay on Balanced difficulty after completing the game on GMGOW is so uncomfortable lol. Like I have trauma from hits that one shot me on GMGOW but am watching them do 1/10 of your hp. I am absolutely cooked
Yeh it does feel like it's your first playthrough
Also hrist and mist, tht is like my faverite fight in the game. Gna is second place, I fukin love valkyries
Can tell this guy played on balanced
My Personal Ranking of the Bosses from God of War Ragnarok:
22)Enemy Reskin Bosses
21)Ancients
20)Phantoms
19)Huntresses
18)Bjorn
17)Trolls
16)Grýla
15)Dragons
14)Drakes
13)Dreki
12)Magni & Modi
11)Hrist & Mist
10)Gná
9)Berserkers
8)Vanadis
7)Týr
6)King Hrólf Kraki
5)Odin
4)Heimdall
3)Nídhögg
2)Garm
1)Thor
I woulda put heimdall at 3 tbh behind the first Thor fight and odin fight but heimdall was my favorite I only put him behind Thor and odin because they are bigger for the story
It feels more like God of Tomb Raider. Still fun but that's what it feels like
As a long time god of war fan, most of the bosses listed where mini-bosses, even bjorn.
How do you call a boss fight disappointing but epic at the same time
