    2023 won't miss. Lies of P is another GoTY contender, and my favorite game in the Soulslike genre since Elden Ring itself. They've added a lot of minor tweaks to the formula that are refreshing with enough reverance for their inspiration. If you love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Elden Ring, you owe it to yourself to try Lies of P.
    Today, we'll be ranking the Lies of P bosses from Worst to Best, including Laxasia the Complete, The Black Rabbit Brotherhood, King's Flame Fuoco, Scrapped Watchman, Champion Victor, Puppet-Devouring Green Monster, Nameless Puppet, The Puppet King, Parade Master, and many more!

    Calling Scrapped Watchmen bottom three hurts, is definitely one of the best fights in the game. All of his attacks have a very consistent cadence to them that make parrying them very easy after you've seen them once or twice. And while on the surface, his three slam combo with lightning is still an opening, just at the end of the combo. Just gotta parry followed by a dodge to the side for each hit and after the last dodge of lightning I was able to get a charge heavy in every time, not to mention this allows you to quickly build up that stagger

      My go to is this. She uses that volley of like 6 lightning attacks followed by a fury attack about twice. Equip the perfect grindstone. It allows you to perfect block anything. Make sure it’s upgraded to have two of those, one for each of those lightning attacks. Throw 2 throwables at the beginning. Wait a second for her to get in the air. Throw like three more then pop the grindstone and block. By the time she’s on the ground on top of you, half her health is gone

    honestly i thought the brotherhood fight fixed a lot of problems with gank fights, you have a lot more control over the fight than usual gank bosses as ad spawns are hp based and elder brother becomes very passive when another one joins the fight unless you go near him. even on the 2nd fight, only one of them will be aggressive to you while others sit around throwing out projectiles and you can even kill last 2 at the same time so you can fight elder 1 vs 1 at spawn.

    • @gbtygfvyg
      @gbtygfvyg 9 месяцев назад +13

      The other members of the brotherhood also become really passive of you manage to spawn more than one. I accidentally had the sister and Buckethead spawn at the same time and the sister practically always kept her distance until buckethead was dealt with.

      They other enemies become very passive. No, it doesnt work the way the way they wanted to be (it almost looks like they are letting you win) & i fully agree with DeModcracy's claims. Maybe if they taunted you while they were passive & when the Eldest steps it would throw insults- that might be better- ie the passive enemies is not just a gameplay mechanic.
      While Lies of P is really good, it somewhat falls into the trap of busywork. And it not that good thing that a lot of the bosses fall into that category.
      Now that the market is starting to get really saturated, this made me really thing of which Soulslike i would recommend to other players (new or experienced).
      Lies of P greatest strength is the setting, but to tell the truth i would always recommend the Fromsoft games (they are the most polished) & most likely the Surge series/Code Vein. Because in the end its also about the fun as well.

    The thing is going for mostly dodging is just the wrong and harder way of playing the game. I started to learn the attacks of the boss early on and always tried to perfect block as often as possible. Whats also important is the use of Heavy attacks. Reflect and slap in that charged heavy afterwards breaks the bosses stance multiple times during a boss fight and it really shows that breaking a bosses posture is the way to play the game. Other than the Rabbit Brotherhood I never felt like a boss was too hard, just a lot of attack learning.

      There's also a Grindstone that you can get that will block any oncoming attack for a short time and be counted as a perfect parry/guard. Apply this at the very start of the second phase, and you can reflect about 3K damage to her on the spot without risking getting hit. The only issue I have with this Grindstone is that it barely lasts. You keep it for maybe ten seconds, which would be fine if that is the case for the other elemental buffs, but it's not.
      I understand it's likely for balancing reasons, as these fights tend to only last for two or three minutes on average (if even that as some builds can just nuke enemy health bars.) But if that's the case... why even add the Grindstone? Especially if it's going to last less time than the others? Regardless, she was a fun fight; I didn't even mind that she was a two-phase fight. However, I feel the devs relied too much on the latter half of the game's main bosses having two phases. But that's another debate altogether.

Not only the get reflected back to her and deal substantial damage, the moment the last bolt hits her is when she would launch her fury attack at you. And here I was rapidly dodging all those bolts then straining my eyes on my screen to notice a flicker in her animation and then deflect

    I know that this will probably get buried in the pile, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the awesome content you make and share with us, and for being such a beacon of relentless positivity. You’re one of a select few channels that I would happily watch and recommend, regardless of the type of content you produced, simply because of the positive vibes that you put out into the world.
    In what feels like an ever colder, more cynical era, people like you stand out as lighthouses in the gloomy dark, and I can’t say enough how grateful I am for that. The care and attention you put into all your work is amazing; it makes me want to try harder to be better as a writer and content creator, in order to live up to the standard that creators like you set with all you do. The love you have for your craft and the community that’s grown up around it is absolutely plain to see in everything you create.

    All the best, and keep ‘em coming!

    I always thought that the Nameless Puppet was implied to be the remains of Gepettos son Carlos or his first attempt to reincarnate his deceased son.
    Specifically, he calls the nameless puppet his son. The lore mentions that the nameless puppet was the first puppet to have a p-organ (but its destructive properties made him an unfit vessel for carlos, as well he refers to the p-organ as carlos heart, so its possible the nameless kings heart was also meant to be the same), not to mention his organic skin. Its like you have to kill yourself to become human and i love that.

    Very confused by your thoughts on Scrapped Watchman - not only are his deflects probably the easiest to read out of most bosses in the game, it was the boss that taught me how important perfect guards are. As for the delayed attacks, is it that hard to just read an animation? I didn’t understand this complaint about Elden Ring either honestly. Most of these delays offer some kind of tell the split second before an attack lands - your cue to guard. A genuinely great early game boss that teaches the player well, absolutely baffling ranking.

    • @rakeshraja5198
      @rakeshraja5198 9 месяцев назад +4

      I think the problem is that sometimes with the camera of the game, it's hard to read the animation cause the boss's limb is out of view. This can be the case with the scrapped watchman if you are too close and locked on.

    • @tehCostHD
      @tehCostHD 9 месяцев назад +4

      Well the problem with delayed attacks is that sometimes after the delay they come out too fast to reasonably react to, meaning you just have to KNOW when they are coming out. With the watchmen this isn’t a problem because his animations aren’t really like this, the swinging arms in the air attack before slamming down is very easy to read and deflect and same with his other attacks. There are bosses that genuinely do have this issue, but you are right when you say watchman isn’t one of them lol

      it seems like you went into the game with the approach of dodging everything and then Watchman tought you that parries can be worth it sometime - I guess that the boss may work in this role. However, Demod (and me) started the game with the opposite approach, trying to parry every single attack like in Sekiro. If you'll try it here, you're gonna have a very, very bad time.
      It feels like the game did well in communicating to the players "you should try parrying in addition to dodging", but they never really communicated "you should also try dodging sometimes" to sekiro-style players - from all the tutorials, I got the impression that parrying is a superior defensive option in every situation, which is just not true

      My problem with the Watchman is his second phase. I can even forgive the big guy for having his overheads out of frame and having to guess when it lands lol. But the deflect into ground electric puddles having you dodge ontop of that really made it hard to capitalize on small windows of opportunity he gives between combos. Really made the fight drag on and made me not want to bother even deflecting him at all.

    As someone who spent 60+ hours to complete the game on a full Technique build I can say perfect parrying is insanely hard, but infinitely rewarding when you get the timing. It literally feels like Sekiro when you get the timing as you can just dismantle bosses. I personally loved this way of playing as it constantly employed a high risk, high reward playstyle. I think Victor was easily my least favorite boss. I just did not find his wind ups and aggression that fun to fight. Laxasia on the other hand was absolutely phenomenal. That second phase introduction was some of the cooling shit Lies of P had to offer, even overshadowing the final boss. Id definitely put her at number 2 as she demands all of your skill and knowledge up to that point in the game. That being said, King of Puppets is definitely a good number 1 and fight that taught me the importance of perfect parrying AND dodging in the right moments.

      It's kind of like a combination of the methods for dodging from bloodborne and parrying from sekiro. Parry when you see swing and hold down the block. Even if you miss the parry, the damage will be reduced and you can quickly recover.

      Its all about timing with the animation. Lies of P actually has superb animation and very few attacks lack any frames of that animation. That means, if you watch closely enough, you can see the moment the boss is able to slam down which is the moment you press block. Lies of P is much more precise in its timing unlike Sekiro. Sekiro has a little bit of fuzziness in its timing allowing you to get away with a lot by simple mashing guard before the attack lands. In Lies of P, that is not the case. You have to watch and know exactly when that attack will land to parry it. And as someone who can perfect parry damn near every furious attack in the game consistently I can tell you watch that frame the moment the animation starts to descend. The swamp monster is the perfect boss to practice this.

  • @enlevementd
    @enlevementd 9 месяцев назад +9

    There is a rhythm to a lot of the bosses, Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood included, that makes consecutive perfect blocks completely viable and not particularly impossible to pull off; on top of that, they do build stagger so there is an important reason to study each bosses attack pattern and learn to perfect block.

    • @theDeModcracy
      @theDeModcracy  9 месяцев назад +6

      Definitely. I'm trying to master perfect blocking more in my second playthrough and it's been helpful. It's still quite difficult compared to something like Sekiro, at least for me.

      This would've been so much more fun to pull off..... If you had 50 stats pushes into stamina, that is
      Fail to deflect well 2 times and moree than half of that bs is gone already.
      Funny how they tried to implement parts Sekiro, while forgetting the most important reason as to why it works in said game in the first place......
      Tbf, deflecting really is only fun if you have a smaller/dex weapon, otherwise you do nothing but deflect, try to attack and get hit anyways, and roll away with a dash that's like 5cm..... Just to be immediately be completely outof stamina already smh

    • @infinitybelt
      @infinitybelt 9 месяцев назад

      @theDeModcracy Sekiro was definitely more generous than this game as you could just spam the block button and get deflects that way. This game's window is significantly more strict which I find to be infinitely more rewarding. I love Sekiro, but the fact that perfect guards are so much harder to pull off consistently in this game makes them that much more satisfying. Breaking the elder's weapon because you perfect guarded his 5+ hit combo flurry is the stuff of legend. Since I was technique all the way with 20-25 vit for most of my playthrough, perfect guard was necessary for me to master which made pretty much every boss a puzzle lol.

    I'm sorry but the brotherhood first fight is by far one of the best fights in my opinion. The elder brother being the main boss means that you only really have to get his pattern, which doesn't really change after the brother have entered the fight. This allows you to break his weapon fairly early(usually before spear brother for me, but by your description of the fight It sounds like you didn't knew) and the problem of him being fast and aggressive suddendly pummel to the ground since he doesn't deal that much anymore, nor has the same reach. I feel the need to defend the Brotherhood because, up to where I'm at (just after Romeo), the rabbits are my favourite boss. I like how the rabbits have that passivity that makes them less of a BS gank fight like certain bosses in other souls and soulslike games can be. I also don't quite agree with the Eldest being too fast. His spin, for example, is probably one of the easiest attacks to perfect guard in the game for instance. You're also rewarded for doing it here because it's one of the few bosses that you can weapon break in the game, which considerably brings his damage down. Also that introduction is beautiful. The fact they bring a coffin to the battlefield just shows a sense of suave cockiness that immediately made me love them.
    On the flip side, I'm not Romeo's biggest fan. I think it's the fact that it's just two entirely different bosses one after another. The King is designed to be a complete and utter tit just to drain all your healing with it's heavy hitting, really wide range attacks that just hit you twice sometimes. Romeo, on the other side, has that desperation move which takes what Demod says about dodging being the best method of defence, a point I agree with, and throws it out of the window by just sticking the boss to you to hit you fifteen times and set you on fire unless your stupidly lucky. I actually really like Romeo as a character, especially when you see the puppets mourning him after his defeat, and his design in both phases is incredible (especially love the jet turbine attacks he pulls out in the King's phase 2) but the fight itself is just irritating to me.

    I had 0 problem with the Black Rabbit Brotherhood, they were even one of my favorite bosses. The brother's moves really aren't that complicated or difficult to parry. I never felt that the deflect was too tight in this game. You can make it a lot harder on yourself if you tap the block button to deflect, which would probably be instictual for a player coming from sekiro. One key difference in the deflect system here, is that the deflect only lands if you are still holding the block button when the attack lands (contrary to sekiro). If you tap the block button, you are cutting the deflect window short. That could have been the reason you felt like the perfect guard is more difficult than it should be.

    I think some people suffer playing this game by discounting blocking as a viable defensive option. They either try to play it like Bloodborne or Sekiro and switch between those two modes, but forget that they can just hold block when needed. There's always the opportunity to Rally that health back too with a version of the mechanic that doesn't suck ass.

The way it combines deflections and posture of sekiro, the attack based healing from bloodborne with the classic level designs of souls. On top of that an insanely unique and fun spin on weapon customization with a beautiful aesthetic, and amazing boss fights. this game is truly amazing. I sincerely wish that we had gotten at least one or two of these systems in elden ring. Oh been waiting for this one, as I've been reporting as it's very VERY unbalanced when it comes to the bosses. Dodges, blocks and parry don't always work, on the master of puppets on the 1st phase I was hit 8 times in a row (not in a combo) whilst blocking and having full stamina and not trying to "perfect parry", the bosses and cross the entire screen in a heartbeat, no tells it's hope for the best which his bad design instead of rewarding learning and studying your opponent. You are expected to shovel a massive shower of sh!t to get some skills that would be expected straight away IE get off the floor quickly if knocked down. The lore, graphics, art direction all perfect, just that corner stone of combat is extremely unbalanced and bad at this moment in time.
    I'm at the puppet master boss and the only boss so far that have been balanced is the Iron giant as it's clean and plays fair.
    The devs are aware of the faults and issues and are looking into fixing them so it's actually balanced instead of a broken mess.

So not accepting the block that’s an issue with the game, the dodge being pointless in places since the bosses are stupidly fast, you have no poise and able to close the distance and perfect tracking.
      Even this video is admitting there are issues right in the first entry which repeats time after time.
