- UPDATE
A lot of people are asking if this will also work with other RTF kits and the answer is YES.
WARNING
Make sure you issue the reverse command (noted at the 4:40 mark in the video!) BEFORE you unplug your FC from USB otherwise, it will be bricked and you'll have to reflash the FW to the FC.
A lot of people asked if the EMAX Tinyhawk RTF controller could be used with a simulator and after a little research, this is the best solution...

How to undo this i cant get back into beta flight
Wow you are really helping the newbies out with these informative videos I can remember my first three drones I broke them before they even got airborne lol bricking boards... vtx wrong voltage... and a tiny whoop eating by my dog before I could figure out how to bind it now days it must be easier getting started thx to vids like this 👏👏👏
Thanks so much for this, bought the drl simulator and was thinking I would have to get a different controller to get it to work, but this simple comand worked, just had to calibrate it in the simulator.
This video was the last bit of information i needed before picking up this kit.
Did you get this to work? I'm struggling.
Didn't know this was possible with Betaflight. Thanks for sharing the information!
Awesomeness, thank you so much for sharing this. I had my EmaxTinyhawk stashed away after being tired of crashing it and not being able to fly it at all, now I can clock some practice worry free :)
afrer many crash it still work?
@@scorpioga3t6 yes, its very hard to break it
Thank you, as per your advice, I am going to give this a try with my GepRC TinyGo's transmitter (Gr8). I figured there might be some sort of "usb Radio Frequency dongle" somewhere out there, but this a clever work around.
There is a dongle out there but only for FrSky radios and the one in the TinyGO kit is not FrSky. However, using the drone's FC which is connected to the receiver that radio can talk to will work just fine. Just remember to re-enable the FC at the end of your session. A lot of people seem to skip over that part and then leave the FC in "joystick mode" and can't get it to actually fly later.
I will be sure to switch it back. Thank you for following up.
@@AlbertKimTV how do I renable the FC ?
Yo I actually followed you on instagram! Thanks for doing this video! I ordered my EMAX rtf tinyhawk today. EXCITED!
This is such a fantastic drone package! Thanks for the info updates on this kind of stuff, it helps a ton to know pros and cons this in depth. Super cool drone!
What a brilliant idea, a step stone for other kits? WOW... thanks!
Very useful information, I don't need it but there are plenty others who do. Thanks.
Has anybody had problems with hair getting tangled up in tinyhawk motors? I had a lot of issues last winter with a brushed whoop overheating so just wondering about this one
Yes, hair get in this one too so you have to be cautious.
T R - Yup, the TH sucks up hair better than a Dyson and just about as well as any other tiny whoop...I would know with three Siberian Huskies...Hair and Fur is a condiment in my house as it gets in everything. BTW those little dental plaque removal brushes (GUM Proxabrush Go-Betweens Interdental Brushes) work fairly well at getting the dog fur out but my wife's long hair nothing gets that out but hard work...lol *Rule #1 Vacuum BEFORE You fly.*
Mike Evans - You fly that in your house? Wow, I have an ET125 and it never even occurred to me to fly it inside the house...Here kitty, kitty...try and bat this one down...lol
Sweet! This is great since I am waiting for replacement motor from China and, as others said, worry free practice is what I need! Thanks again.
How do you bind the transmitter to another board if your one dies in the ready to fly kit.
Not able to find that information.
That's a nice added feature for this kit. 👍
I love this!!! Finally have a solution to using the cheapo flysky controller on the sim!!! The usb dongle for mine broke a while ago.
I need help. My controller is detected by windows 7 but velocidrone can't see it. Where should I look for a problem?
Does this work on lift off , brilliant video very clever
Yes, should work with all the major FPV sims out today.
This and your other videos are great to watch Albert. I would like an FPV whoop to practice around the house but am not sure about the availability if the tiny-hawk these days in Canada. Are there other FPV whoops that would interface with Betamax and allow practice on a PC simulator? Sorry this is such a basic question but this hobby gets very confusing!
Any worthwhile free quad sims, or one with a trial out there? Been trying a few weeks to get my controller and TinyHawk II to work with a sim. Think I finally have sims recognizing my controller but none of them work; controls are always messed up and it doesn't seem easy to fix. Configuring the controller it doesn't recognize zero or full throttle, and goes only from half throttle to full throttle, so I can't arm the quad. Anyway, just looking for a few free ones to try to see if it is working. Will consider buying only after I see the software works. So far, none of them do.
Looking forward to getting my EMAX TINYHAWK:)
Can you bind that controller to another Tinyhawk? I bought a replacement Tinyhawk for one I burned up and can’t figure out how to bind it.
I think the Tinyhawk RTF came with a manual with bind instruction in it.
Albert thanks for this, I was looping for this option but couldn’t find it.
Do you also know how to disable the fan in the goggle?
This is good to use on an FC board that has something broken, that prevents it being used in a quad. Such as a burned out FET on a tiny whoop F3 or simply an old F3 FC you no longer use but make sure it can power the receiver with USB if it's a regular FC, as some don't. I mentioned F3 only because it's the lowest still supported by BetaFlight currently. Hey Albert, is that TinyHawk controller any good? Can it re-bind to other quads?
This feature is not supported on F3 boards, only F4 and above. The RTF controller is really only good for beginners as just about anything else out there that costs more will be better. You could still fly something else, but it would require adjusting your rates to accommodate the controllers limitations.
Albert Kim - Really? I thought it was F3 too...my bad, sorry.
I've re-bound my OG TinyHawk controller to my new TinyHawk Freestyle. I had to remap the channels in BetaFlight, but it bound easily! First time ever binding a FC and receiver.
Well to make things more complicated I don’t have a computer, but it looks like there’s a couple on the PlayStation. Will this work around theoretically work for me too?
I have no idea. I don't have a PlayStation to test it.
Good to know it works thanks Albert
Can i use this remote with "free rider" simulator?
Cool post!!!! Really wana try a sim!!!! My old laptop won't run one!!! Is there a good one for a X-box 1?? I just got that and RDR2 for x-mas. 1st game i have played in 10 years and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its crazy fun!!!!! But i need a acro sim VERY BADLY!!!!
The Tinyhawk will now be the perfect alternative to the Frsky USB dongle...I mean can you even fly the dongle after you are done with the sim?
Albert. Any chance you'd consider doing a video on setting up the osd? I'm going to assume I may not be the only new person to fpv and the Tinyhawk. Despite turning things on in the active elements and saving changes I'm not seeing the info I'm requesting (via transmitter) Thanks for the consideration.
Not all things are configurable via the transmitter and require setup in Betaflight configurator. I do show a little of the transmitter changes in this video about 11 minutes in - ruclips.net/video/GcKVvJtnZHE/видео.html
@@AlbertKimTV Thanks for the inf, Albert. Firing up Betaflight now.
What about those emax box goggles, how do they compare to other budget goggles (for eg eachine ev800/VR D3)? Cheers!
Probably one of the best box goggles ever made but it doesn't seem like they will be selling them separately.
Perfect. And they even have real diversity or do they? Only lacking the DVR.
@@AlbertKimTV I just saw them on the emaxmodel dot com site --> Search for "goggles" and they retail $44.99!
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but Betaflight shows all channels working normally (~990 to ~2013 for all axis on both sticks). However, and I get into the sim, the left stick will only work on the top left quadrant, while the right stick will only work on the left bottom quadrant. All other quadrant just make the channel jump straight to a 2000 signal.
I thought it could be an issue with the sim, but I tried both RDS and FPC Freerider on two computers and all four tests show the exact same behavior.
Any thoughts?
Half-answering myself here, based on this: www.deviationtx.com/forum/how-to/7757-jumper-t8sg-usb-on-liftoff-real-drone-simulator
Apparently Windows reads the data from the TX in a -127 to 127 range (which I confirmed in the Windows Controller Calibration tool), but RDS and FPV Freerider expect a range within 0-255. When a negative value is read the software overflows, which translates to interpreting the value as a huge input in the opposite direction.
The workaround/solution would be to create a new profile in the TX, but with the TX that comes with the TinyHawk RTF kit this is not an option. I guess I'll have to just trust that Velocidrone works as expected and shell out the 16 pounds.
Change the channel mapping setting in your simulator
@@AlbertKimTV I did not find the options for that in neither FPV Freerider nor RSD. Seems like it is something that needs to be done in the TX, which isn't available for the TX that comes with the TinyHawk.
Did you have to change those limits in Velocidrone?
@@bralex6669 I have same problem. Have you found a solution?
@@enriquecordovanovion6069 Sort of. The answer is to map the data sent by the TX. This can be done with a "real" TX, like a Taranis, but not with the TX that comes with the Tinyhawk RTF kit. For this one, you'll basically have to use another simulator. I ended up using Velocidrone, which can be used directly.
I have watched your video many times, followed instructions on a PC and a Mac, still cant get the COM23 to show when the EMAX Tinyhawk is plugged in .... pls help
You need to fix your USB driver... see this video - ruclips.net/video/0mrJG7AOmRI/видео.html
Brilliant piece of information, thanks!
Hey, I has in velocidrone with the radio working and a few minutes later the betaflight close and now i cant connect the tiny hawk to betaflight because it stay as a controller, How I fix that?
You should still be able to connect to it. When you open Betaflight it sometimes defaults to a different COM port. Try one of the others.
@@AlbertKimTV When I open betaflight doesnt appear any COM and I have the quad plugin
@@AlbertKimTV Do you think that problem can be because of a driver?
maybe... have you tried a different PC? You might have to reflash the board if that doesn't work.
@@AlbertKimTV Im going to try with a different pc
Thanks for your help!! 😀
Hi Albert will this work with the Emax Tinyhawk freestyle 2 please.
Yes, the same procedures will also work with that model. I assume you are using the same transmitter?
@@AlbertKimTV yes it’s the same one Albert and thanks for replying.
@@AlbertKimTV just a update Albert it worked big thanks.
Would it be possible to do the same with Eachine Novice III kit?
Yes. Actually, this works with any FC
what's the map's name ?
Excellent video going to try it
Has anyone got this working with Liftoff? I have done everything in the video. Liftoff connects to the flight controller but the remote does nothing. Does it matter which position the shoulder switches are in? should i turn the remote on before or after i connect the tinyhawk to the computer? any help would be much appreciated
it doesn't work for me
Yes you have to calibrate it in liftoff then it will work.
does it work on Mac?
Hey Albert and the rest of you guys, will this solution work with TinyHawk II?
Yes, it works the same way.
@@AlbertKimTV Thank you for the reply Albert. One more quick question while I have you here. Can you use betaflight to disable angle mode on this drone, too?
I can not connect to Betaflight. What could be the possible reasons?
Could be a USB driver problem. See this video - ruclips.net/video/0mrJG7AOmRI/видео.html
I keep getting the "Failed to open serial port" error. What should I do?
Need some more context here but I here are some guesses. The USB driver needs to be updated. It's a PC not a mac? The firmware on the flight controller might be corrupted and needs to be reflashed.
Albert Kim Yeah, found out that the cable was a charge only cable... lol
+1👍 pretty dang cool. theoretically with any FC (not that i need it)
does it works also with limitoff? thank you
yes
I have been told that that using the Betaflight passthrough joystick like shown on this video will blow out the regulator on flight controller if used long term. Is it a true real risk?
Do anyone know if t can be avoided?
This is the first time I've heard this. Can you tell me where you saw this information? I can investigate.
@@AlbertKimTV RDS simulador support replied that I'm a email.
Yes I agree DO NOT unplug! You will have a heck of a time to get it back as an STM virtual com port. Been there.

It should but I don't have a Mac so no way for me to test that.
Hi Albert! Thanks for that nice video.I have a problem, I can't reconnect my drone to turn off that command, have you any solution for my problem?thanks
Did you not see the warning posted in the description. I mentioned it also in the video but perhaps didn't emphasize it strongly. The only way to fix the problem is to re-flash the board.
in the latest BF 4.3 to Win10 or newer, set "show all serial devices" turn off the BF, connect the drone and turn on the BF
Is it possible with other FC ?

Thanks for this video. it helps a lot. however when i tried to connect back into the drone it would not connect. you have to go to options>and enable show all serial devices. this allows you to connect to any of the serial ports in the computer which allows you to connect to the drone again and change it back. i am running betaflight 10.9.0.
i can now run liftoff from steam with my windows 10 computer.

I followed this guide hoping I could use my radio/remote controller for simulator because I'm not ready to fly yet and now I can't detect my Tiny hawk 2 freestyle in Betaflight anymore in order to revert. Anyone that can help me out?
There is a warning in the description... did you read that?

You have to issue that command before you unplug the board from USB otherwise you have to reflash the board. I mentioned this at the 4:40 mark in the video.
@@AlbertKimTV After setting this to ON, I had betaflight disconnect. USB cable still connected however unable to reconnect to drone. Likely this person experienced the same ? Albert Kim, can you please help me? i try this, but i can't connect my tinyhawk again in my computer with betaflight configurator. i'm on windows 7. please help.
First, try another computer. Did you turn off the simulator mode before unplugging it? If not, I think it is still stuck in that mode perhaps. You can try and connect in DFU (bootloader) mode and reflash the firmware and you can get the CLI settings from the emax-usa website to restore things back to the way they were.
