  • Oh man, I've been wanting to try out FPV for a long time! Emax reached out and said they were developing a ready-to-fly (RTF) kit that included everything you need to get started - tinyhawk quad, fpv goggles, transmitter, and battery/chargers.
    In this video (part 1 of a 2-part series), I show you what comes in the Emax Tinyhawk RTF kit, go over the software betaflight, and some beginner setup tips.
    Hopefully this video was helpful if you've been wanting to get into FPV too but don't know where to start. Don't forget to catch part 2 below!

    Pinning these tips/updates since I can't edit my video:
    - ANTENNA ANGELS: Put the antennas at a 90 deg angle from each other to limit dead spots.
    - POWERING UP GOOGLES W/O ANTENNAS IS FINE - Goggles can be on with no antennas, it doesn't matter (it's just receivers), it's the VIDEO transmitter on the drone you don't want powered with no antenna, as all the power bounces right back into the amplifier circuit and overheats it quite quickly.

      RC Girl. Awesome videos. I bought a Tinyhawk a couple weeks ago. Mine loses it signal however at about 60ft from me, whether flying in of sight or fpv. Your video looks like you have way more range than that. Might you have heard of this problem? What range do you have with yours? Thanks

    It's actually the video transmitter (vtx) that you shouldn't turn on without antenna on it. Goggles are fine, you just won't have very good reception.

    • @MidnightMarrow
      @MidnightMarrow 5 лет назад

      I was about to say the same hah. The transmitter puts out power and the way these are made ( as small and light as possible) they have like no cooling and rely on the antennas and ridiculous air flow from the props to remain cool. Without an antenna the VTX will fry quite quickly, with one you have enough time to setup and take off.
      Receivers on the other hand are literally just receiving and as such take the very little power needed to convert the energy from the air into information your screens can use and because it's not digital there is pretty much if any processing, which is why we don't use digital as it does add to the latency from processing. >;D

    Are there any special safety precautions on charging 2S batteries?
    - The 2S battery has two leads - do I plug them both in or just the larger one?
    - Can we use all 6 connections at same time - 3x1S and 3x2S ?
    - When do we use 0.2A, when do we use 0.6A ?

    If you want to avoid the problem with the rc transmitter interfering with your wifi then check if there is other firmware for the transmitter.
    In Europe (EU) RC transmitters are now required to have "LBT" firmware ; that stands for "Listen Before Talk" .
    It does exactly that; it "listens" to hear if the channel it wants to "talk"(transmits) on is free/ silent.
    Once confirmed silent it will talk if not it moves to the next channel or wait a little.

    about that battery connector; the "polarity" (positive/red, negative/black) is not a standard (the colors are) in this type of connector.
    Check with other batteries first if the red and back wire are in the right place or you can damage the quad.
    If you press the small flap inside the connector down you can pull the wire out and change the location around.

    I’m not an expert, but I think that PID/rate profiles are not the same as Modes (angle, horizon and acro), as you said in 12:12
    Apart from that, I think it’s a very solid review that can attract many people into this hobby 👍🏽

  • @RDsRCReviews
    @RDsRCReviews 5 лет назад

    Excellent video! Betaflight can be overwhelming. I'm still learning it myself. I missed the rate profiles so I made a follow-up video to discuss them. I was confused why it sucked so bad in acro then I realized it was in rate profile 1 (beginner's) so it lacked the thrust to fly in acro. I use a Taranis with mine which works really well. I worry about the RTF controllers being responsive enough for acro. My biggest issue with the Tinyhawk is the props. They fly off very easily from a crash and they include no spares and finding spares in-stock online can be a challenge. Great job Hayley!

    Really great video! I like your content a lot since it's on the level of where I am at as well. Actually, I'm even newer to FPV. I didn't go with a bundle like the EMAX setup, because I do know that I love flying already. I just went the wrong route by buying a "cruiser" type drone in a beginner package like the EMAX. I bought the Eachine E511S to be exact. It's a great little beginner package, but not my speed at all. Anyway, I added that to say that I don't mind investing in gear that will be able to be used across many whoops and eventually 5" kwads, while also lasting longer and giving me a better experience. I am already using a FlySky Nirvana NV14 on a SIM. I just bought an iFlight TurboBee 77R. I really like the build of it, it's pretty much a shrunk down 5". Carbon fiber frame and even a mini-stack in it, but it does have the prop guards for the inevitable crashes. I'm looking at the Eachine EV-200D goggles. I like the dual receiver module bays and the wider FOV. Keep up the great work. You gained another subscriber and bell ringer today! Happy flying!

    The charger is for LiHv batteries, but the replacement batteries are LiPo. The charger is not compatible with LiPos as it will overcharge them and possibly start a fire. I could be just being over cautious though. Maybe the charger is dual compatible but the manual is timing out when I try to download it online.

    • @RDsRCReviews

      This is correct. The charger doesn't have a 4.20/4.35v switch like my Snapper7 charger. 4.35v will ruin standard lipos. I just my Snapper 7 LiHV lips and they work great even though they are a lower C. However, standard lipos should be fine for angle mode but I'd want LiHV for acro.

    What antennas to run on the goggles? And will it even make a difference on a cheap pair like these.

      Both antennas should be straight up. Those aren't great antennas but should be fine given the short range on 25mw.

      @@RCDevotee Yep, so how does camera compatibility work? If I have the emax googles, what types of cameras will work with it?

    • @RCDevotee
      @RCDevotee 5 лет назад

      @@RCGirl Any camera will work as long as you are broadcasting on 5.8ghz which most systems do. I am sure the receiver in your goggles can receive the 48 channels most use. There are quite a few all in one camera and vtx combos out there for cheap that can be powered off very small 1s batteries. Horizon even has one I think made by Spektrum. Many of the plane guys I chase on Sundays have camera systems they just stick on top of even a UMX sized plane.

    The antennas are supposed to offer recieve diversity. So laying one horizontal and the other vertical makes good sense, much like the antennas on your router. Nice video and good to see a woman doing this :-)

    About antenna's these "linear antenna" are the most "sensitive" to the side and the least at the tip.
    Pointing a antenna in the direction of the transmitter is the worst angle and will give the least amount of signal.
    One antenna vertical and one sideways horizontal is a good setup.

    I’m looking into breaking into the FPV world and am considering the Tinyhawk, but quickly want to move up to building and flying my own 5 in quad. Do you know if the transmitter for the Tinyhawk can be linked to a laptop for flight simulators? I know I will eventually want to upgrade controllers, but would like to start with a flight simulator. Great video. Thanks!

    • @RCGirl

      I'm not sure about linking the controller to a computer...but in betaflight it does connect wirelessly to your computer so it has me thinking it's possible. but I'm not sure what sim to go with.. anyone on here know? I have RealFlight 9 for planes mostly, but it does have some quads in it too

      Just discovered that tronage has a whole video how to do this, and you were right, he does it through beta flight!
