If Howard had gotten better producers, he could have crossed and still have Jody eating out of his hand and her heart out.
It wasn't until '94 that Howard finally made a solid album with Mont from beginning to end (not just good songs here and there whether released or not).
I also heard that because his Caliber Records independent release was so good that Sylvia wanted to resign him to EEG.
I also listened to his '92 Allegiance album that Prince, ex-wife Nia Peeples & Whitney Houton's former producer Narada M Walden produced, and Elektra Ent. dropped the ball on him and sabotaged him by dropping him from the label. That was foul. He could have crossed over on the mushy power pop ballads on that '92 CD.

Oh…and you were correct about Elektra dropping the ball…but I asked to be let go from the label because their pop dept had dropped the ball on every album I gave
them! And when they released “Save You Sex For Me” as the first single I knew they didn’t understand me as an artist and we’d gone as far as we could go with each other.

You’ve had major success and half of those who criticize you don’t understand the forces behind the scenes and they also don’t know you’ve been in the industry for over 40 years and got to live out your passion- something you love doing
