Maybe he never received an Oscar, because he didn’t want to play the game. Not saying sex stuff, but maybe not wanting to be the type of person/character they wanted him to be. The world has always been a wild ride and as some people age, they don’t always like the things they agreed to at an earlier age to achieve fame, notoriety, wealth, etc. People seem to really change their stances around 55-60 years old. You’re beginning the downhill slide of life and the things that brought you joy 20 years ago are no longer the same.
"My mother was very ill, and I wanted to convince her that I was a miracle; then, I wanted to convince the entire world that I was a miracle - and now, I want to convince everyone that I'm just like them." I'm paraphrasing here, but this is profound.
He would've set a standard that would be impossible for them to follow up... Carrey is too good for SNL and the greats of the great always seem to have trouble making anything on their level on the show anyway.
True story about Jim: He took the time to autograph and send a headshot of himself when one of my best friends growing up was undergoing youth open heart surgery (we were maybe ten - tops) wishing him a speedy recovery and all the best. I'll always have mad respect for him and that little bit of time he took out of his day for my friend.
@@dondamon4669@dondamon4669 It means that a lot of people put on a facade to fit in and be accepted, they round the sharp edges off themselves just to fit in and avoid being judged poorly or being ostracised. (Some doing so after receiving judgement and bullying but not adjusting in a proportionate or healthy manner.) That means that they are either being inauthentic so become frustrated with having to water themselves down to be palatable, so build resentment and compressed potential as they don't let their authentic thoughts out, or do things which truly brings them joy. Or they let themselves be treated poorly and don't stand up for themselves because at the time they think it is easier, and mistakenly believe it causes a better emotional outcome, than being labeled difficult or weird. Or if done for long enough they can lose all hope and the colour, spark and vitality they once had, because fitting in and becoming gray was easier socially, and perhaps financially or career wise for them not to cause waves. Many compromise their own morals, especially in group social settings, they prioritize keeping social approval over everything. They are so busy taking the path of least resistance that they don't realize that they have become part of the problem. Some don't even recognize the person they have become. Others don't even know who the true them is because they have pushed it down for so long and it takes a lot of time and effort to rediscover their authentic self. Tl;dr So on a small scale they make themselves round, grey and a pushover, or not someone they would respect, or even like. If you always go with the flow you never show your differences so do not stick out, so you do not leave a strong impression with people; you are easily forgettable. If people even realised they were there in the first place. Also if you never disagree, or push strongly for something, causing waves, then you are incredibly unlikely to be very successful or create any large meaningful change, or significant impact, on the world. You do not leave any footprints on the world. (Thankfully many do eventually realize and decide to make personal improvements. Although it can take a lot of inner strength, time and effort to be more honest, authentic and expose their unique selves.)
Between Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, as well as a host of small stand-up comedians, I've become convinced that more often than not comedic talent is really just a coping mechanism for depression.
it certainly is. when seeing others smile and laugh become how you cope along with the fame and eyes on you. and you realize how fake it all is, some of eyes come off of you, and you have low periods. and low periods to people with life long depression can be life ending. don't forget to tell the people around you that you love them
I can attest to that, being both the "office clown" and also someone who's lived with major depression since childhood. Comedy (specifically absurdist or physical comedy) is like a counterbalance for the void of despair happening upstairs in your mind.
In 2022 Jim Carey announced that he was considering retirement, saying 'I have enough, I've done enough. I am enough' - he said he would only return if he were offered a script that he felt 'would be really for people to see'.... In February 2024 he announced that he would reprise his role of Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3'
Honestly, I did not think he would be a good Dr. Robotnik. I like Jim Carrey, and grew up with The Mask, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, and a lot of other iconic movies. I thought Robotnik would need a different energy than Jim could deliver. When I saw the end of the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, I knew that I was totally f*ckin wrong.
He always seemed like such an absolutely sad person, even when he was at the top of his game. Like a guy, who spent his entire life perfecting his craft so IF he ever got his shot, he'd be ready. But he got there and looked around in the rarified air and thought "I hate all of this".
Everyone forgets Jim Carrey was on trial for murder over an ex that committed suicide on his pills from him giving her *SEVERAL* STDs unknowingly to her. Jim is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
He's long been known in the comedy world as a guy with depression problems, even before he became famous. He's tried a bunch of different things...I remember him talking about giving Scientology a brief try. He's also not easy to work with...ask his makeup artist on The Grinch, who had to get therapy afterwards.
I worked for Jim as a prop man on Bruce Almighty. great human being. I totally understand now what he is saying. I retired after 35 years in the industry, You then realize, your work should not define who you are. We all just play a charter. My job is not who I am. I've had kids ask me, why did I leave Hollywood? I have enough too. I've done enough.
I remember hearing that the breaking bad showrunners picked comedians to star in their show because they understood tragedy the best. Crazy world we live in.
I Love Jim Carrey. My older brother was born profoundly deaf. We are late 80s babies. My brother grew up not being able to relate to anybody he saw on the tv or movies screen - EXCEPT Jim Carrey. Because Jim was SOO physically animated, my brother had someone funny and famous he could act like. And after we watched Ace Ventura Pet Detective, my brother would come down the stairs randomly dressed in a button up and a tutu with my dad’s army boots with his hair gelled into horns, and he would act out the entire scene where they were visiting the mental hospital and he has the football and then goes backwards in reverse until the water fountain and then on his knees to slam his head into our couch. We would just die laughing. My brother and I loved watching Jim Carrey movies and I especially looked forward to my brother mimicking his acting for the foreseeable months following! My brother became a Deaf Actor and has been in a few deaf movies as well as plays starring as the lead as Huckleberry Finn at Fords Theatre in DC and other amazing plays. He is very pro deaf community and chooses to not break into trying mainstream acting for any specified roles but he would do amazing if he did- and I don’t hesitate for a second to wonder if Jim Carrey had anything to do with my brothers interest in becoming an Actor!
His description of being on anti-depressants is incredibly accurate. "It's ok. There's no peaks or troughs, you're doing ok...but you're not getting any answers." That hits hard.
Yeah, everyone reacts differently to them. My old anti-depressants got rid of my fears to some extend, but I also just never felt happy. I decided I'd much rather have meds that did a little less of that if it meant actually staying... Human, I suppose.
Patrick CC, you knocked this out of the park. You ending notes were inspiring and the clip you showed of the "Truman Show" in context with Jim's actual life made me fight tears my desk at work.
Nah, he managed to pull of a variety of different types of weird... Then hit us with Truman show when we thought he was all jokes. IDC if I'm glazing, dude has entertained me for years@@barth9580
Yes and in a broader sense, self consciousness or any reflection of the self that manifests in thoughts of unworthiness are still just a murmur of ego, or "buying in" to the illusion of self. When one removes the self in "self consciousness", what are we left with?
Jim Carrey's retirement reminds me of something Tarantino said when asked about calling it quits after his 10th movie, basically saying that people are frustrated because they want to be the ones to reject him, and not the other way around. A person being at peace with the fact that they've done enough is such a huge threat to a society that thrives on people's desire for approval.
Interesting take and true of the most possessive but I also think it’s simpler than that. He makes good movies. He still makes good movies. We don’t care if we never get to see”reject him” we just want as many good movies as we can from him cause it seems no one else can even come close to capturing his style without it coming off as a cheap copy
@Qwazin that is some genuinely philosophical musing, my friend. Well said. Without the insatiable need for MORE this system we are in would evaporate almost overnight. But most people have been unable to place the Maslowian Pyramidion...
The part that stuck out is something I've done in the past. He asked himself "WHO is it that is noticing the thoughts I'm thinking right now?" That is a hell of a question to ask yourself and there are very few people ever come to a place where they can ignore all around us and seriously ask that question to ourselves.
If you’re interested in reading more, that exact concept is covered in acceptance and commitment therapy, specifically “self-as-context”. Tons of stuff on Google and RUclips on the topic.
I’m not sure people understand the meaning of this. Jim thought he had everything he ever wanted, and realized none of it had any real meaning. The words of a man who looked into the darkness and saw it looking back at him. Having fame, money, everything you could want doesn’t mean what you think it does. You’re still left with YOU, and if you’re not good with you, none of it will matter. Who you think you are, may actually be wrong. Jim has been to the ledge and looked off, he came back.
I think his breakdowns and issues are directly related to drug addiction. Same with any Hollywood actor that has mental health problems, 99% of the time its drug related. Many of them could not perform without drugs. Drug use is rife in the industry both illegal, and prescription.
@@tubester4567 I don’t have any first hand testimony but I don’t disagree with your sentiments here. Tbh if I had been rich and famous in my 20’s, I’d be dead already. Maybe I get help but having unlimited access to all that sh*t, idk I’d like to think I make it but I doubt it. lol

I was never a fan, but I think that he saw the true reality of what show-business/Hollywood is. Disgusting people are in charge.
Not exactly true. Fame is a drug, when you get invited to 50 talkshows, tour the world, get invited to all the best hotels and restaurants and get seen by millions or billions and then it starts to fade or the hype is over after your last movie how do you chase that high again? Drug use is just part of filling that hole. Sex, drugs, retreats, action, new movies, crazy stunts, assaults these are all some ways famous people try to get their fix because they all have a void to fill.
have you considered that some people didn’t “miss” anything and instead just didn’t like it? the people who come up with excuses like this when others disagree with them are hilarious. and of course it’s always the ones thinking spamming “criminally underrated” about everything in existence is a useful way to talk about movies, music, etc
89 - the mask used to scare me 😂 the music was creepy in the beginning when he finds the mask. The other movies were great though. Good old days in the 90s
A lot of people say Jim is empty and depressed, but I think he’s seen the human world for what it is and has dedicated himself to calling it out. I have mad respect for this guy.
yup.. funny philosophical people who think and develop their independent brain are considered negative or depressed but fake people with fake smiles and BBL and truck load of makeup naked caring only about their exterior and materialism with no soul development and only indulging their shadows are considered "normal" shame on humanity
I was born in 1990 and Nobody on T.V. made me laugh more than 2 people. Jim Carrey and Robin Williams. They were a huge part of my child hood and I cherish them both.
So, I grew up next door to Jim's sister..... We all lived in a cul-de-sac, and the kids/teens played road hockey CONSTANTLY. Jim was a (semi) frequent visitor, and always made time to grab a hockey stick and join us every chance we got. I really had no idea he was famous until much later, seeing him on old episodes of In Living Color..... Jim was a funny, genuine and personable guy, generous and kind. It spoke a lot to me that years later, he looked at the Hollywood Bubble he was surrounded by as the plastic, hollowed-out husk that it really is, and had no reservations in saying so.
Patrick nailed it when said Jim Carey was probably experiencing Ego death when he Sounded off about the ridiculous idea of celebrating Icons. While it may not be the true death of ego it may just be the subdual of the ego, but this opens you up and fills you with unbreakable strength. You become a river that flows out into the world instead of being a vacuum that sucks from the world. A person who experiences this in a setting like Hollywood will see it for what it is. A cesspool of desperate egos clambering to feel important. And disgusting people who use this to prey on others.
Saying a comedian is depressed is like saying water is wet. It almost comes with the territory, since comedy is often a tendency of humans to conceal the opposite emotion.
Fun fact: Five or six years ago Jim Carrey posted one of his drawings, depicting mussolini and his lover hung upside-down in piazzale Loreto. Somehow mussolini granddaughter, Alessandra, saw it and got really mad, like if it wasn't an historical episode. She called him a b...st..d and he responded that if she doesn't like the drawings she can turn it upside-down and pretend her grandfather is jumping and dancing.
He is still my hero. I have an autograph from him. My dad sent him a letter back in the 90s with a tape showing me as a kid doing impressions of him. The autograph says "Make people smile, but remember, its just an act! - Jim Carrey" Later in life, i always wondered what that meant, then when i saw him on the red carpet talking about all this is BS, it clicked for me. Love him so very much, and if i could do anything in the world, it would be have a conversation with him.
@@film_magician If you watch the whole video you definitely get the impression that Patrick isn't against Jim Carrey and is probably a fan of the stuff he's said and done. The title is just what he thought would make people click on it the most. edit: just realised the title literally says its hollywoods worst nightmare as in they wouldn't want someone speaking out against them like Jim Carrey has. The title isn't against him at all.
"Jim Carrey is just a character that I played" There are people out there, men and women, who I think this is going to hit like a ton of Bricks if they hear it. Some of us don't really know what we are doing in life, we don't know how to be "us" in life, and we find ourselves playing roles that are comfortable for the people around us but don't reflect the true person within. And it is really easy to feel trapped playing those roles, and despairing in anyone ever actually seeing the "Us" behind those roles, or finding that we ourselves don't even know what that "Us" is supposed to be and how cast adrift that can make you feel. I think it is a really brave thing to say, that a lot of people will just laugh off, but that the people who resonate with will understand and respect him all the more for.
This is a well-known theory in behavioural psych, we wear masks adequate to the social situation we find ourselves in. This is not some sort of pathology, it's how social groups and interactions work. It's only a problem when all you have are the masks and no real personality, but that's a lot of people and they wouldn't have a soul even if they lived alone on a mountain and didn't have to wear masks for social interaction. Incidentally, the way you get a personality is by reading books and thinking about profound things - the exact opposite of watching Hollywood movies.
@@paulie-g I'm pretty sure watching Schindler's List helped me develop a soul. You should consider that youtube commenting to repeat bland unhelpful psych terminology is a path to losing said soul. We all understand the common, even if some of us have trouble implementing it. It is the uncommon and extremes which might warrant the psych analysis. Books are just people's thoughts condensed into written format. If you are limiting yourself to reading books, you will have a stunted personality.
@@jiiaga5017 No. Reading these "just words" requires ideation and imagination, which have developmental effects. Watching films does not. Schindler's List is an exercise in whitewashing in the Arendt tradition, which you would be able to consider if.. you had read more books.

@@jimb762 No, we had a university psych professor lecture at my school for a couple hours each week when I was 9-10 on different topics in psych she considered interesting. This was one of the first lectures if memory serves. There's a bunch of work on this in behavioural psych, Jung had something to say about it (but who cares, it's just pseudoscientific ramblings), there's a related concept in Marxist dialectics and so on. What did you think of the book, is it relatively rigorous and worth reading or pop-sci nonsense?
"I have enough, I've done enough, I am enough." Hits home when trying to understand one's true purpose in life. Money and fame only make you a character. Self-respect makes you who you are.
It hits differently if it comes from someone who truly has little in life. Coming from someone whose net worth is close to 200 million dollars it's just...yeah. Yes you do have enough. Any other invaluable nuggets of wisdom to share, o multimillionnaire who can afford anything he could possibly want on a whim?
not enough for jimmy tho! or not enough of dr. robotnik in his life, evidently, as he signed for that role in sonic 3 after saying that sonorous gibberish you mentioned
I'm only 6 months older than he is but we were both underage when I saw Carrey at an open mic night at the Talbot Inn in London Ontario. I thought when I saw him - in 10 years this kid is going to be either famous or dead. I don't remember a single other act I saw that night. Carrey's frantic kineticism and his genius mimicry stood out in my mind for years afterward. When I saw him for the first time on In Living Color I was like "That's him! THAT'S THE KID!"
This documentary, which I enjoyed, is vastly incomplete without the mention of "Eternal Sunshine" and "Man on the Moon," which was Carrey's excellent portrayal of an important influence of his, Andy Kaufman.
I was an extra in “Once Bitten” in the Halloween party. Blue dress, peach ribbons in pigtails in my hair. When I saw Jim play “leg guitar” and other unique moves, I thought, “This guy really has something.” It was clear to me that he could be a star. I saw him again in Century City. He was on the phone so I waited to say hello. When he was done, he told me that his agent just told him that he got the “In Living Color” gig! So he told me before he told his wife! lol! I’ve watched him fulfill his destiny with a happy heart for his success.
once bitten is my childhood film that my sister showed me when i was like 5 years old lol, its a special movie to me. im going to rewatch it and look for you lol
As I was reading this I was thinking 'this sounds very similar to the story my friend Lauren told me about Jim Carrey' then I checked the name and it's is you!
Jim Carrey finally made it because of Damon Wayans. When everyone else was snubbing Carrey, Damon got him onto the cast of In Living Color, which was where his career really took off.
Man it’s powerful when he told the interviewer I don’t feel compelled, I’m given the opportunity so I have to take it. That’s part of the mentality that kept him going, if you get a chance no matter how crazy or insignificant it may seem you have to try or else you’ll never know what could’ve been.
I wonder if he thought that way before saying "What if I give my girlfriend massive doses of drugs? She'll probably die, but she just said she was mad at me for the STDs I gave her, so win-win!" Cathriona White should never have gone out like that.
Fum is another essential oils MLM/scam. Yeah it's wild he skipped over that film. It's still Jim's best serious role and it's one of the most critically acclaimed movies of his career and in general.
Cable guy was a movie I didn't understand from the beginning. But the older I get the more I can appreciate the film with dark humor. An underrated gem among his movie catalog
No one knows what a dark comedy is any more. A dark comedy is a film where the bad, evil, wrong, or dark behaviour of the characters is funny. Cable Guy is not really a dark comedy, it's a comedy that failed to be funny because it had too many dark themes. Shallow Grave (1994) is the perfect example of a dark comedy.
The Cable Guy was hated because people were expecting the blue collar comedy tour starring jim carrey. Instead they got a lecture on how abandoning your kid in front of the TV while you go out drinking will turn them into a social reject. To be clear, they weren't offended that someone called them a bad parent or even called their child a social reject. They were offended that someone said *it was their fault* their child became a social reject. For the parents of that era, popularity was the most important thing in the world. So obviously this point would specifically hurt them the most. Being told their kid's uncoolness is their own fault was a blow they simply couldn't recover from.
What am I without all my possessions and achievements? I am content. What I value cannot be taken away from me. My history, joys, hardships, happiness, trauma, acceptance, pain, love, empathy, everything I have experienced and learned on this journey of life. “There is only one thing that I dread: not to be worthy of my sufferings.” (Fyodor Dostoyevsky)
I love the last quote about 'enough'. We all need to know what 'enough' is. Reminds me of an anectode about a conversation between Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller. Both writers were at a party of a billionaire. Vonnegut asks Heller, "Joe, how does it make you feel to know that this guy makes more in a month than your novel (Catch 22) ever will?" Heller replied, "I have something he doesn't. I know what 'enough' is."

Happiness and contentment is quietly existing in large intergenerational families, majority of those seeking external validation outside of familial ties are harbouring a “lack” which grows into depression.
he's talented but a big part of his success is his looks. when his looks waned, his spirits waned because people no longer gave him the same reaction when he was young and good looking
@@cagneybillingsley2165 a lot of people’s success is down to this, and its because as human animals we psychologically objectify everything for survival needs but we still cannot shake this type of decision making around buying products and entertaining ourselves. Attractive people are exactly that, attractive and when they become less so they are exactly that, less attractive. Its all primal.
His dedication, even in the face of repeated rejection, is immensely inspiring. The Hollywood industry is indeed a tough nut to crack, and Carrey's story underlines how unwavering belief in oneself can overcome any hurdle.
I love Robin and I always love will however it wasn’t depression that caused him to commit suicide. It was dementia. He didn’t like the feeling of slowly losing his mind.
Great to see footage of Jim that a lot of other channels dont show when they speak of his transformation. I just hope he is truly happen and continues on with us on this journey called life. Great vid as always Patrick!
The spark in his eyes he had when he was young disappeared. It’s like Hollywood slowly sucked not just the happiness but the life from him as well, he turned into a shell of his former self. Really well put together video.
It just life. Most old people aren't as happy, smiley and full of energy as when they were youngs. Just having a jobs will do that to most human beings
As someone prescribed fluoxetine (Prozac) for major depressive disorder and anxiety I can say that it's an accurate description of what it's like to be on it when you are relatively ok. Things just don't hit as hard. I'm not sure about the highs being smoothed out, but the lows certainly are. In my case I was so badly off that anything that alleviated the intense despair was worth it. I'm still here thanks to the meds. I'm better now. I'm in a better place mentally, but after the events that lead to me needing it my life still hasn't settled back down into a stable and secured pattern yet so I'm still on it, because getting on or off the stuff messes with your brain quite a lot. Being on it is fine. Being off it if you aren't constantly in despair and suffering is fine. But the transition from being on or off it is hard on you, and I want my life to be otherwise stable, especially financially, before I take the plunge and get off it. It'll "only" be about three weeks of my brain going wonky on me, but it would be best if those three weeks are after I have secured a stable income. Better to stay medicated while I'm trying to get a new job and while I'm settling into it once I manage to get one.

I also have RUclips premium and in Patrick's defense. It's a very small sponsorship, and though I'm not a smoker. I can appreciate the product that he is is sponsoring. Because if you go from smoking nicotine to AIR. That is very. Impressive! Even if the effectiveness works on only 5 percent of cigarette smokers. That's still a improvement and would be saving lives.... Also, lol you can do what I do and double click the screen and fast forward through it lol

Gotta give the Waynes Brothers and In Living Color credit for having Jim Carrey. He wouldn’t be here if he didn’t appeared on the show and got the approval of the brothers.
I heard that story too, to be completely fair though a talent like jim was inevitable to rise to the top...there are a TON of people given platforms that go onto achieve great things, its always the person that achieved it that deserves the credit not the ones that noticed it.
He's not wrong. He's not crazy. Usually deep depression leads to the awakening of the true self if we're able to break through to the other side. It's the freest you will ever be in this life time.
Jim's movies play an important part in my life. The first date I ever went on with my wife was to see The Truman Show. We hadn't met before that day and we were both so nervous it was a huge relief to be in a dark theatre just sitting side by side holding hands, getting comfortable in each other's presence. Also, The Cable Guy is one of our favourite films of all time. We watch it at least once a year but usually two or three times. It's amazing.
I feel like a video about the Wayans brothers would go crazy. I think a lot of people aren't aware of how much people in comedy were put on by that family
17:40 , truly enlightening, he never worried about money, but he lived that life, and quote "we were makin money, but we decided to quit because we were turning into monsters"..........its a beautiful thing to see someone make it out alive
1:27 I was in an opera masterclass once, I was 30 years old. And the woman who was leading the class was a retired opera singer. I was nervous, but I sang a few lines of an aria and she hated it. For the next 30 min. I was verbally abused and ostracized out of the class. Then, the man who was my 'teacher' , a person I pay to help me, the next day, he continued the verbal abuse and called me a bad singer. I can take sticks and stones, but it hurt. And I went on to sing in an opera chorus in another city. But I never forgot those evil people and how horrible that business is.
Singing is such a in-person matter, as you yourself are the instrument. It's difficult to separate the singer from the person, but it would be healthy to manage to do. As a consequence, singers are not seldom quite egoistic, self-absorbed and frankly mean to other vocalists. The competitiveness becomes personal instead of professional, which may result in nastiness as you describe. I'm truly sorry you had to face such treatment!

When the MSM started calling him crazy it broke my heart, everything he was saying about Hollywood and the MSM is completely true, and they tried embarrassing him publicly to get back at him (like they do with anyone who defies the MSM).
@duked989 I'm honestly not sure what I took. I was told it was powdered mushrooms, but now I think there must have been DMT in it too. Or something. I literally just got lost in the void, saw a rectangular tile with the word, "self," on it, and agonized for a very long time what it would mean if I knocked it down. I did. I am new. I am transcended.
BRUH, Jim Carrey talking about the illuminati on Jimmy Kimmel was like the scene (entire netflix movie) “Don’t Look Up.” The way we react to news and the way the media controls the narrative and our thoughts.
Absolutely! 1994 Alone was Epic in those HYSTERICALLY Funny Movies! Only Jim could of pulled off the MASK with his Talented Impressions! One of the Best Comedians in History 😅!
35:30 for those interested to know, the drug dealer liability act was lobbied by actor Carroll O'Connor (the dad in All in the Family) after his son died of suicide as a result of heavy cocaine use. O'Connor fought hard to get his sons drug dealer for homicide, which he eventually did by lobbying. The drug dealers liability act became a law in 1997 where any drug dealer who provides drugs that result in overdose or suicide can be taken to peison for homicide.
16:45 Honestly, Jim Carrey would've been much better suited in the role of The Joker. He really would have been one of, if not the best, on-screen versions of that character.
I totally agree. He's played strictly comedic roles and he's a top of the line actor with passion. To have him play a character who is essentially a dark parody of comedians and the untold horrible crap that comes from being a failed, passionate comic, would blow the movie charts away. Plus it'll be a role that none of us are use to seeing him in.
And yet he made the most iconic riddler ever and reminded a whole generation of a better version of the 60s riddler. Honestly I’m glad he didn’t play joker because riddler is now one of the most iconic Batman villains ever for Carey’s addictions to the character alone
I like the fact that my favourite channels include more and more ads in their videos that I actually am interested in and watch them, take notes and enjoy the rest of the video.. :)
How method he got for the role of Andy Kaufman, not ever breaking character on or off set, had to have some effects on your brain. Dude thought he was Andy. I was surprised he didn't mention it.
What was good about Eternal Sunshine, Jim Carrey played it straight through the whole film. It was his costar Kate Winslet who was the over the top flamboyant, character in the film.
I started to gaslight myself about Man on the Moon and it's wild that almost no one brought up. I guess it would shine light through the thin threads of the premise of this video which never really delivers an original thought
The number 23 was my favourite movie. But for some reason nobody talk about it. It's always Mask, Ace Ventura, The cable guy.. I love all of them, but 23 was so unique for him and I was so exited to see him play a completely serious role. And he didn't disappoint. My favourite movie with him
I didn't like that one. And it's not that I don't want him to do other type of movies, it's just that I don't think he was convincing in that specific one. My favorite was eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind.
Hollyweird & the shadow cartel most likely just tried to ruin him because he stopped playing thier game... isnt that always thier typical move when someone tries to expose the man behind the curtain in OZ.... its so cliche and predictable to the point of absurdity now. As he said... I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough. *slow claps*, cheers to that. those who have eyes to see it... see it.
The moment you accept that the Schumacher Batman movies are spiritual successors to the 1960s TV show instead of sequels to the Burton Batman movies, Jim's performance as The Riddler becomes downright perfect.
Yes!Schumacher knew exactly what he was doing. I'm partially responsible because I didn't really get it at the time (like a lotta people) and so we never got the see the third Schumacher Batman which was planned all along but canned after the Clooney one was a critical flop.
The message I have received from Jim’s spoken words in the clips of this video and through his actions …. Is “blind faith “ in whatever it is that he is navigating through. That’s true wealth and is priceless. I remember how young I was watching him on in living colour…… I can’t imagine being under the microscope from then till now in my adult life and have people chime in on my successes and failures….. and still have the ability to have blind faith in whatever I put energy into….
The Truman show was so ahead of it’s time it’s one of my all time favorite films of all time. Jim Carrey intrigues me as an artist I loved all his choices looking back on it. Even the misunderstood cable guy.
I refer to it often when in general convo with people to give them a heads up on what this life might actually be without us knowing it's exactly like the Truman Show..
My controversial hot take: Even though The Truman Show ended up being the more popular movie, I think The Majestic was easily his best performance in a more serious role. Wildly underrated film. Highly recommended.

No award for The Truman Show is absolutely insane.

@@dondamon4669@dondamon4669 It means that a lot of people put on a facade to fit in and be accepted, they round the sharp edges off themselves just to fit in and avoid being judged poorly or being ostracised. (Some doing so after receiving judgement and bullying but not adjusting in a proportionate or healthy manner.)
That means that they are either being inauthentic so become frustrated with having to water themselves down to be palatable, so build resentment and compressed potential as they don't let their authentic thoughts out, or do things which truly brings them joy.
Between Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, as well as a host of small stand-up comedians, I've become convinced that more often than not comedic talent is really just a coping mechanism for depression.
it certainly is. when seeing others smile and laugh become how you cope along with the fame and eyes on you. and you realize how fake it all is, some of eyes come off of you, and you have low periods. and low periods to people with life long depression can be life ending. don't forget to tell the people around you that you love them
Love is strange, not necessarily positive or negative, but always tentative.
I can attest to that, being both the "office clown" and also someone who's lived with major depression since childhood. Comedy (specifically absurdist or physical comedy) is like a counterbalance for the void of despair happening upstairs in your mind.
That's what comedy is for, providing light in darkness

What a story.

I’m not sure people understand the meaning of this. Jim thought he had everything he ever wanted, and realized none of it had any real meaning.

That's exactly the same as me. I hated the film when I first saw it, but subsequent viewings have made me appreciate it.
@@yetanotheryoutuber4271wrong

"It feels like a low level of despair you live in... But you're living OK." Wow. That line perfectly describes how I feel.
That definitely hit home for sure. Some days are better than others but there's just a persistent feeling of being under siege.
