    I've thought about this a few weeks ago, but regarding hog nerfs: Why not make it so his hook has a charge up time of some sort? Make some animation where he spins his hook by the chain, and the longer its charged the farther it throws, like how doom's gauntlet works. It can have a loud sound cue like Rein charge, Sigma rock, Doom gauntlet, and would allow people time to react to his hook.

      I like this idea with a couple additions:
      - The longer you hold the further it goes
      - Travel time in air is 1.2x faster then current regardless of when thrown
      - hook can be cancelled
      - take a breather gives 1.5 seconds of anti heal to self (saw this in another comment)

      @@mrdhong2143 Well, it’s so that the hog doesn’t have to waste time seeing a hook miss, it’s like how doom fist can charge a punch but cancel it if there’s no targets around, it’s mainly about preventing lost value.

    When Flats was talking about the history of Roadhog through Overwatch 1, he mentioned that period of time where Blizzard reduced his damage significantly but increased his fire rate to compensate. Even if that version of Roadhog was considered weak, it was still my favorite iteration of the character by far. To me it felt satisfying to be able to apply consistent damage and pressure, and gave some much needed flexibility to his kit.

      ..... Imma be real with you hog could still oneshot there, it was just harder. They lowered it from like 450 to 300 or something, it stayed like that for years and then they bumped it to 330, where it is now. And the fire rate felt awful, the animation looked terrible.

      @@bladeclanhalo3 it was really wonky, ana was almost impossible even with melee. Then they messed around with the spread and made it way more consistent, made the reaper duel more even too.
      But yeah the fact that you could oneshot zarya was a good enough reason to nerf that damage.

      yeah hog is made stronger with Kiriko, but I'm p sure Kiriko isn't the reason hog has a hook and can literally 1-shot people lol.
      Proof: Hog was meta at the end of Overwatch 1, so yeah, when Kiriko didn't exist yet. And there was 1 more tank in play that could stop him/get in the way, (Double shield literally countered hog on paper but he was so good that orisa was substituted by hog at times, and playing sig + orisa was basically a 50/50 matchup against sigma + hog when it should've heavily favored the team playing double shield)
      Hog has BEEN a problem. It just got even worse when the game moved to 5v5 and 1 of his counters has counterplay. If you think Ana should just hard counter roadhog and kiriko is the only reason that isn't the case, then you're just bad at the game. Kiriko doesn't boost hog's presence in the meta as much as you think. The higher ranked player are just baiting/forcing her cleanse out before using CD's on the hog anyway. This isn't a new strategy, it's the same thing as forcing Baptiste to use his lamp before you throw out grav + dragon or throwing a dva bomb for example.
      Saying 1 support is solely carrying hog is such copium and such a copout it's insane.

      I remember a time in overwatch where you had to perma crouch or you would have loud af footsteps. Now they can jump behind you and you won't hear anything. And sometimes you hear footsteps but the direction sounds off. I dont know why they butchered their game sound. Maybe a silent buff for flankers.

      @@andirmiga they should make that a passive ability then. Characters like Tracer, certain healers, Reaper and Sombra have quiet footsteps while tanks all have loud directional footsteps

      This sounds really interesting. As in, Hog is extremlely obese, therefore he has trouble breathing, making him grunt a lot. Maybe even lower his movement speed so that he doesn't just run into the backline but he can get his normal speed back whenever he "takes a breather"

    I'm happy to see that we can respect people opinions on characters for their buffs and nerfs without being aggressive,without raiging or proving that everyone exept you is wrong.I appreciate the fact that Flats, even if he disagrees with that Hog solution form the video,still heard what the guy had to say,and shared his opinion after he heard the all thing.
    (I agree with the guy that doesn't want Roadhog to lose his one-shot,but I'm open to all kind of opinions in the matter)

    I imagine even just a small timeout on using the scrapgun after a hook, like half a second maybe, so that the hog has to rely on their teammates to secure a hook kill instead of just being a One Man Band, give hooked targets a split second to reposition etc.

      The thing that makes hog so good rn is the game being 5v5 rather than 6v6, the extra tank made it harder for hog to get away with trying to hook people while also making it harder for hog to hook someone in first place with a tank defending them, now with his increased health, only one tank defending the team and kiriko cleaning anti nade because of course she can he feels immortal and frustrating

      Yeah less stuns makes him way better now. I saw some person that said kiriko was the ONLY reason hog was any good. Guy was def a hog player lol. Im p sure Kiriko isn't responsible for less stuns in the game + hog being able to 1 shot people. Do your hooks get cleansed by the enemy kiriko often, or do your hooks even get cleansed by your own kiriko making sure you don't get stunned out of it? The answer is no, because it's impractical to try and do that consistently, especially the latter - not a viable use of her cleanse. His hook + 1 shot is the issue. Being able to punish him less is def contributing, but that comes down to his self-sustain...that has nothing do with kiriko. She cleanses your purple? Ok, now sleep dart the hog while her cleanse is on CD. Then what?

    The funny part about them taking away his one shot is that we have already seen what happens when you make the tanks do pretty negligible damage. Thanks to an experimental patch back in OW1 and it made the tanks just get bullied constantly

    If the problem with Hog’s hook is there isn’t enough wind-up or signaling, why not make it a wind up ability? You’ve got to hold the button down, Hog begins swinging his hook over his head or next to him, winding up for a sec or half sec or whatever, then he’s able to throw it. Locks him into the animation and better shows he trying to hook you

      I think that would be pretty cool. And you’d be rewarded for winding it up because you’d gain maybe more distance when casting it, or damage on impact, or the length the character is actually pulled into (so maybe the hook connects but doesn’t always pull them right up to hog, maybe only halfway unless it’s fully winded) that way you can’t just hit a button when you’re fighting someone and restrict them in an instant you actually have to wind it up first.

    This is entirely my opinion, I honestly think that the devs are looking at supports through a reactive lens instead of a proactive lens. In principle this makes sense because supports *support* their team, but that doesn’t mean they should be devoid of proactive abilities. I think that’s why Ana is such a fun and well-liked support, because she can use her abilities to protect *and* to put a disadvantage on the enemies, whereas mercy’s kit is solely reactive, a reason why she has a passive ultimate.
    You can definitely see the same pattern in Kiriko’s kit as well, with her suzu and teleport. While survivability is important in the state the game is in right now, I think this reactive lens is pushing supports deeper into the Dead by Daylight direction, where you’re getting flanked but the only thing you can do is use your movement abilities and pray your team pays attention to your pings, or out-aim them and outplay their abilities that are used solely to kill you. If I were a dev I’d have each support have at least one proactive ability besides their weapon, but still make the kits mainly reactive to support the team.

    I'd say that Orisa ult can get value under the right circumstances with the right combos. The simplest way to put it is that it can be used like a discount grav that can do a bit of damage too. I've seen teams get melted when a Reaper pops blossom or a Junk throws out a tire when Orisa pops her ult in the middle of the team, with the biggest benefit being that it pulls enemies towards her and slows their escape, which is honestly pretty good for the majority of dps ults (sorry Soldier).

    Also on the Tanks I think a big problem is the effective range of a few of them like the hook from 40m away is crazy with the 5v5 longer cooldown shorter range and maybe a snare after being hooked

    My idea for a Roadhog nerf (to start) is to just add a delay period where he can’t shoot after he hooks a target. I feel roadhogs hook should primarily be used to team coordinate, pull a target into your team and have them just demolish the poor Genji

      @@loganithink3349 it would give characters who are typically one shotted the chance to escape. for example reaper can get one shotted by hog right now, give hog a delay and reaper can use his LShift to escape.

    Honestly Roadhog’s nerf literally just needs to be that his Hook is on a Long CD. Thats basically it. He should only be able to do it once per fight, not every 5 seconds. Once it becomes an actual skill shot mechanic and not a cheap gimmick, that’ll make the “one shot” way less common

    I think Hog just needs to either slow himself down when healing so he can't heal and run, or take longer time to heal, meaning he can't hook or fight whilst healing for longer.
    OR give it a charge (like Rein's sheild) that slowly builds up when dealing damage that then he can use to heal.

    I really do feel like roadhog could be turned into a good poisonous Area denial character, with a poison bomb that could either scatter enemies to be separately hooked and picked off using maybe another close range character or to bunch enemies together so characters like pharah or junkrat can do splash damage and get easy picks.

      i wonder why blizzard is doing anything with butcher(roadhog/butcher = tomato/tomato)'s drive that makes him consume human flesh as some kind of energy source("aaah, fresh meat!"). maybe his sustain, that'll then be less powerful in grouped focus, can passively be tied to his damage output? requiring sufficient sustain would ideally become for those having a higher skill cap than it was when based more on a button and it's cooldown

It can be short if you want him to still retain one shot potential higher than the other tanks, but itll at least signal "hey, heres this big thing you gotta worry about" little chain lasso animation is all it would take

    Give Roadhog's hook windup that you need to charge before throwing a hook. And 2 options: 1. you can't cancel it, or 2. if you cancel hook goes 1.5x of normal cd time (12s)

    Flats, I have always been such a big fan of your takes, can you give me your thoughts on this.
    I believe Doomfist is so close to being perfectly balanced.
    If they reduced his punch cooldown back to 3 but removed the .25 second stun that his normal punch has, and made the meditated damage needed to empower 90 rather than 100, he would be so balanced.
    He should not have a .25 second stun on his normal punch, it’s just silly, allows me to secure kills so much easier and is annoying for enemy squishies

    A solution for roadhog would be to half the range of the hook and make that you can charge it for like 1,5 to extent the range of it, while he is charging the hook they could add a sound that tells you "hey the pig is about to hook you" like a laught or a chain sound. And make the hitbox to be more precise. That way roadhog wouldnt be able to hook you from a whole screen into your death without you being able to at least react and dodge and he would maintain his identity of "if you are out of position you are dead" and become a punish and reactive tank instead of a active tank. Maybe you could also make him louder, that way you will hear him coming from the flank, which still would be dangeorus but much dificult to pull it off since you will agaim hear him and have counter play

    I'm a main roadhog but with overwatch 2 I completely stopped playing him because he was so broken and frustrating to play against that I couldn't enjoy playing him anymore. I just feel the rage I have when an enemy is playing hog that picking him was making me feel angry even if I was the one playing him.
    I'm waiting for his nerf so much so that I can (hopefully) play him again

    Maybe hog should have a "wind up" period with his hook where you could see it and move or something. Like he has to pull his arm back to throw or something. Also maaaaaybe shorten that chain a little. It's not as bad as when OW1 came out but I swear I got hooked into Gibraltar from Kings Row.

    I think the big reason why Road goes unchecked and feels unhealthy is the only CC to stop his heal are on tanks and Ana. Thats pretty much it. Back in the day any one person could swap and make roads day a living hell with CC. But yeah, an unpunished mid skill one shot is pretty rough

    Roadhog can keep his one shot, as long as I can use my abilities while being hooked. Initial stun, sure, but let me DM after that, or ice block, or recall/TP, or boop him away, instead of just hoping the hog is bad and doesn't know how to one shot properly. Give me some kind of counterplay, besides surrendering space, or stopping everything else I am doing, to focus on dodging a single ability every 9 seconds or whatever it currently is.

      I think instead of hooking directly in front, the hooked player should be able to influence where they'll end up, say to the left or right of the Hog. Then the Hog has to guess to confirm the kill. It can also punish bad hook locations because if you can wiggle your way behind cover, you're safe.

    "Its insane how someone explaining a strat that is shown to work in a clip" I mean, anyone can cherry pick a clip against bad players. If I walk up to the enemy spawn as Genji, get a 3k with deflect on round start, and say thats the correct way to play Genji, doesn't make it right just because I got a clip of it happening once.

    I find it hilarious that these people actually think Hog is a better tank than Orisa right now. She’s unkillable, has 2 CC abilities, a CC IMMUNITY with over health, and half her HP is armor. Spear cooldown is extremely low and if you time your abilities Orisa just farms Hog all day long.

    I have a suggestion that probably isn’t great but I think it might be interesting to think about, like how Reinhardt has his charge and it has animation and you can dodge it if playing in good positions and have good movement, or sigma has his rock that needs to form before he can destroy you, what if you gave roadhog like an animation to his hook like him spinning it above his head first, it will give a sort of warning which would allow players to either stun him or shield the hook quicker or just move out of the way. Again it probably wouldn’t be the best solution but I think it would be alright to look into

    My question is why they don't just make his hook reactable by making it so he has to "wind up" his hook by swinging it in circles to build up power for throw distance and change his breather ability to no longer heal but a couple hundred hp with lower mitigation than currently. By making there be a visual cue and sound cue, it makes it so he can't just toss it on you for free and forces the roadhog to indicate they have their hook out and ready to use before it gets thrown like current hook.

    With hog, what if with 'Take a Breather' he receives less healing and damage reduction when he is moving but when holding still he gets the full benefit. Like his hps and dmg reduction would be 275hps and 40%. Of course, they want to get rid of the one-shot potential so idk if the idea would kill the character. Just a idea

    We noticed that Roadhog is getting lots of complaints. We here at overwatch believe that one shots and high health are unhealthy for the game, and so we have decided to nerf Genji.

    Also, another thing that sets the Sig OHKO from Hog’s is that if the person hit by the rock gets a lick of healing, they’ll survive. That’s not the case with hog.

    Maybe I don’t see things the same way but roadhog since conception has never been a take he’s been a fat dps which doesn’t make space but in turn creates an advantage, overwatch being a game of numbers and trades, roadhog may just need an increase to his hook cooldown but reworking him doesn’t feel right

    Reworks are good... till it affects the hero you like to play. Pretty sure Flats wouldn't say the same thing if they Removed Reins shield and hammer then gave him a sub machine gun. Because nothing utterly kills a hero more than changing their primary weapon, abilities and Ult like past reworks.

    I actually think hog could get his hook range nerfed by like half the distance and then nerf his take a breather in some way, either the hp, movement, or damage reduction. Maybe some cool down time nerfs. and I think he’d be fine, I don’t believe he really needs a rework

    here’s my road hog rework. Keep his 700hp and his breather, but give it only 10% damage resistance and a 10 second cooldown. Then, make his weapon deal much less damage but give it a fire rate similar to junk, and 10 ammo. Then, give his hook a 4 second cooldown but only a 10 meter range. Anything past 10 meters is not punishing “bad positioning”, it’s just punishing supports for existing within line of sight of hog.

    I wish ults were overall less powerful. I really like Valkyrie because it is tactical and impactful but its not a guaranteed teamfight winner like some ults are. They're more interesting and force the game to be much more tactical instead of purely about ult economy, and would make defense maps like 2Cp more entertaining because youre not just waiting for everyone to build their q buttons. The fact that something like Nanoblade, Tire or Gravitic Flux exists in this game is very frustrating.

    It's such an easy fix for Mercy. If she can't have game changing ultimate by reviving other players than they need to increase Mercy's own fun elements.
    Screw those 5 bullet increase but give her a desert eagle during her ultimate instead.

    The problem with hog isn't his one shot combo it's his one shot. His primary (and secondary) is the signal highest damage burst excluding ultimates. A tank having that damage output on their primary fire and a ranged secondary fire is what's broken.

    I think there's an argument to be made that Hog as a tank only works because of his one-shots. He isn't fast, he cannot block attacks to protect his team and he has no form of area denial.
    The one-shot means that you really can't afford facing off against him at short to medium ranges in open space and this in turn allows Hogs allies to occupy that space that is too dangerous for the enemy to be in.
    You know how Junker Queen isn't really all that good right now? That's because she's diet Hog. She does not do enough for her team in terms of creating space or denying damage but at the same time, she cannot reliably secure kills because she's short ranged and her weapon is slow and doesn't one-shot.
    If you were to take Hog and all you did was nerf his damage from 6.6 per pellet to something like 4.5 (which technically could still one-hit 200 and 225 hp characters, but only with an absolutely incredible hit where almost all pellets land in the head which doesn't really happen against anything other than maybe certain tanks because of the spread even at point blank), he'd just drop out of use immediately because there'd be no reason to use him. Instead, you'd just be seeing a bunch of Ramattra, Winston and Orisa again and Winston would probably have to be nerfed because there's almost nothing stopping a good Winston from getting free picks on supports and dps if the enemy team doesn't run Roadhog. That's how Hog ended up in the meta to begin with, if you recall, with Winston being incredibly dominant and Hog being one of the better counters.

    "Mercy Valk is a spectator mode" Opinion discarded.
    Sure, Valkyrie should be adjusted and made stronger for 5v5, but if you have this ultimate that makes everything you do stronger and all you can do is "spectate" then that's a statement about what you do OUTSIDE of Valk. Skill issue, you don't Valk to counter big burst ults like the Tracer ult in the video.
    It's okay to have ults that aren't game changing in the game, because usually those characters have VERY strong neutral games. Winston, Wrecking Ball, Widow, Mercy, hell, even Symmetra.

It's why he specifically mentions Orisa having had a rework, since her ult also was just a damage boost in OW1

    Hey flats, what’s your take on this; Since both sigma and rein’s one shot ability is present but allows opponents to react to dodge it, why not just keep hog the same as he is but add this “charge” time before his hook. Like maybe a spinning chain animation before he throws that hook out.
