As a support main in both MMOs and Overwatch I love it when people says "in MMO healers were supposed to just heal" as a base for the "healer=support" argument, cuz it's shows that they're a healbot even in MMOs. In MMOs like FFXIV and WoW, a healer's actual job is to constantly juggle between healing, CC, and dealing damage. For example, White Mage in FFXIV have the most powerful healing in the game, but they also have some of the best damage potency, rescue abilities, and CC in the game. Sure, you can get away with using Afflatus for just healing up until Stormblood, but when you got to a high-level raid and you don't feel like participating in the battle when the boss only got bee's dick of health left and decided to use Enrage and wiped your party cuz you said "b b b but healers were supposed to just heal :(((", you will 100% get flamed. I see one of the two as support and the other as a healer. One's main job is to provide support, with a side task of healing and the other's main job is to probide healing, with a side task of support
In FFXIV "Healers" deal damage 80% of the time. You only heal when you absolutely have to and otherwise spend every GCD possible on pumping damage. MMO guy means he plays WOW and gets carried bc he only spams GCD heals on a tank.
The reason you cant call a support a healer, but you can call an apple tree an apple tree, is because of the primary function. Supports are NOT healers. They heal the team, but also do other things. An apple tree grows apples. They are apple trees.
Even in MMOS healers are technically supports, their built to support your team along with doing damage when necessary, heal bots exist sure but good supports utilize their entire kit, not just heals.
Calling Support heroes Healers is like calling a Tree a Shade-giver. Yes, that's what all trees do most of the time, but they can also house animals, bear fruit, produce oxygen, stabilize river banks etc. It's better to call them a more general term that can imply all of those functions.

TO that guys apple tree analogy. It would be like calling a fruit bowl and apple bowl because you took an apple from it despite it also having a bannana, orange and pear in it as well.

You can't call an apple tree that specifically gives the benefits of apples a leaf tree
Yeah, I did that Roadhog ult thing just yesterday, I was super confused, first time playing him in the new game.
Healers in mmo’s are called healers but they also do things like dispel, cleanse, shield and pull agro off the tank and wipe the whole raid ssooo
Jay seems to have competition for most braindead take when it comes to "healers"
Even in MMOS healers are technically supports, their built to support your team along with doing damage when necessary, heal bots exist sure but good supports utilize their entire kit, not just heals.
but guess what theyre still referred a ill give you a second.....A HEALER
Calling Support heroes Healers is like calling a Tree a Shade-giver. Yes, that's what all trees do most of the time, but they can also house animals, bear fruit, produce oxygen, stabilize river banks etc. It's better to call them a more general term that can imply all of those functions.
Lmao flats misheard him was talkin about the Apple tree analogy
Bro I laughed so hard damn hard at the Bing Chilling part 🤣
I can’t believe flats didn’t know of bing chilling before this
3:01 if he used this analogy wouldn’t it be more accurate to say Apple giver? Because healer implies that’s all the support role does
I cant BELIEVE Flats didnt know about Bing Chilling.
1:50 and Flats finally gets the joke
2:26 is like saying since tanks can do mass amounts of damage we should call them DPS xD
to be fair full charge zarya is a dps hero
No because if I say go DPS, nobody is going to pick a tank, unless they are trolling. But if someone says go healer, they know exactly what you mean. And that's the only point the dude was trying to make. This is very hard for you guys lol.
@@lilfuzzballa We know what you mean. The problem is, what about the people who don't? New players who are just learning the basics of the game that the tutorial couldn't teach them.
@@strangejune Then I say "oh I mean support." And then they understand. But now they just learned that supports are also sometimes called healers, and business goes as usual. It's really not that deep.
@@lilfuzzballa Then you also have to explain that the term is a misnomer, that they don't always heal and that it isn't always their job to heal.
TikTok: "Why not call them healers?"
Flats: "Ford F150 go brrrrr"
So now my trees have identities. My mango tree identifies as an apple tree
Every time he’s said F150 I thought he was talking about the plane
4:00 I think he was trying to say Applebees but didn’t look back at the recording to redo the recording
I do sorta agree with the one guy saying supports = healers. Going by that logic of saying they are not healers then it should be the same for the damage role, they should change the dps role name into something else and the kit doesn't all have damage abilities.
TO that guys apple tree analogy. It would be like calling a fruit bowl and apple bowl because you took an apple from it despite it also having a bannana, orange and pear in it as well.
the way he doesn't understand bing chilling at all
im genuinely shocked he didnt know what bing chilling was
Flats accidentally made the same analogy is Ohdough.
healers in mmos are also supports at least in ffxiv cause they weave their abilities with dmg
“Bro Winston are you okay?”
“Winton”
As complex as Overwatch can be, it will never be more complex or more varied than Chess.
The support analogy, more correctly, would be that you don’t call an apple tree an apple just because it gives you apples, similar to how you don’t call support a healer just because it gives you heals.
u don't call a TV a console monitor... even if 90% of the time that's what u use it for... its still a tv
