The problem with hog is not that he punishes you for being out of position, it's that he punishes you for being remotely in the fight.
Hog's problem is that he's ONLY useful on one single condition: Landing his hooks. That means his entire reason to exist is literally to one-tap people. I mean, whenever a Hog misses a hook everyone just walks over him, he does so little to actually contest or protect space. He can survive, sure, but he's not a threat and he doesn't really do anything except land lycky one-taps once a blue moon and then rely on his hook for the rest of the fight.
This was tolerable with 2-tank lineup in OW1 where Hog's job was hard space denial and flank contest since he could rely on his maintank to hold the frontline during hog's downtime. But with only one tank in OW2 Hog just feels so bad to play and play against. All he is is a walking hook on a cooldown, and a fat blob when he has used it.

Bad positioning is when you're isolated from your team, out in the open or some combination of the two. You should be punished for that.
If you have enough skill and it's a 1v1 you should also be able to outplay the punishment to some extent. Punishment does not equal instant death.
You should not be punished for standing near your tank and getting pulled 30m across the map to an instant death.

My favourite thing about the Rein pin video isn't that Reaper can easily survive it, it isn't that it's a stupid point anyway (as Flats explained), it's that the Rein went over the edge and was falling to his death.

All Rein gets are 2 fire strikes on cool downs but outside of that he's all melee and getting that pin and living can be, and is quite the effort. While hog can still land fairly decent damaging headshots outside of his normal range with his alt fire, only having to stop and reload, while having a hook that allows him to stay comfortable with his team or wherever he is, with no risk to himself and securing a one shot, or if he's around a teammate having someone clean up for him.
isnt Flats also straw manning the pin argument too? they said 2 moves which in fact rein got that kill with two moves. I get why Hog is a huge problem but Flats didnt argue in good faith either for the 2nd clip.

Sigma: needs to wind up rock and the rock is thrown at an angle
Rein: needs to charge himself to get that pin kill
Hog: hook is nearly instantaneous, travels at a straight line, makes the target come to him instead of the other way around like rein, can walk away and heal with damage reduction.
Solution: nerf humanium
And the rock has some slow projectile speed, so its really only effective close range, even then is relatively easy to juke.
While hog hook isnt instantaneous, it travels FASTER than everything rein owns. It comes out hella fast, like 0.16s and travels 40m per second for a max range of 20. SO IT TAKES 0.5S TO TRAVEL FROM HOG TO YOU AT MAX RANGE + 0.3S for it to hook anyone back. So you're stunned for effectively 0.5s (stun timer + hook return).
For reference, a rein charge for 225 damage takes 0.6s to cast, gives a 200% movespeed buff during charge on a 5.5meter per second walking speed. And it would still be slower than a hog hook by 3/4ths of the speed. Why is that even allowed?????
What if they changed it to where he had to charge his hook up before throwing it, with an audio cue of idk metal clanging or something

honestly people seem to forget Hog's hook has a 20 METER RANGE, which in turn, creates a 40 meter across circle around him where you just can't be ever because if you do go in that circle, you're dead. Imagine if Rein or JQ had a 40 meter death circle, people would lose their minds
Also fun fact, the hook comes out at 0.16s, you have very little time to react to that pointblank. On top of that, it travels at 40m per sec. So it comes out fast, and hits fast at a very respectful (not lul) range of 40 meter across.
Rein charge takes 0.6s to cast, and travels at like 15m or less per second (not sure if its 11m per second or 16.5m per second, anyways still slower)
Like, come on man. How is this even fair. Hog hook comes out fast and deletes 300 hp targets with ease from absolute safety. Meanwhile rein if he ever used charge will be punished to hell and back.

This isn’t to mention that properly executed the one shot combo is almost completely impossible to react to on your end. Not just the hook, ALL OF IT is unreactable, the second the hook hits you already lost, no saving through, no skilled work around, you just die.

They don't have the ability to pull you out of cover and into them is the neat thing.
So you can just peek shoot them to death or just completely ignore them if you're in good cover spots.

@@gurimisenpai2358 People also don't understand how easy it is to deal with a Bastion. Turret form or not, he has an inherent weakness that holds him back, his big ass hitbox. It is incredibly easy to get a bastion to back off of turret form if everyone started to look at him for a second. Yeah sure, lower ranks don't understand how to deal with bastion, thats true just about every hero you can slot in for them. But once they climb, bastion is nothing but a risky tank deleter.

Rein Pinning a squishy means there's an opportunity to potentially punish an out-of-position rein. Hog Hooking a squishy means you need to burn your cds so that they don't immediately get negated.
As a dps and support main, I wish I knew I could just run from the hook.

Most hog players just yeet their hook in the general direction of a fight and often hook a target other than the intended one. That's how I get pulled in as a support.
@@ccricers As someone who's coping as Hog (with how shit rein is) this is accurate. I just toss it in the general direction and get 50-75% hook accuracy. Its so fucking charitable that it feels like it has triple the rein pin hitbox.
That thing about revenge is so true. It even works in real life like in sparring or fighting. If you hit someone with a leg kick for example, they often retaliate wit a leg kick. So if you know they are that type of fighter/player you can set them up for a counter

1:16 reminded me of this match I had yesterday. I was playing Rammatra and the enemy tank was a Rein and they just solely focused on trying to get me. They would ignore the DPS that would walk past, and wouldn't bother to protect whoever was behind them. 1.5 - 2 minutes into the match I had over 5k damage while they barely had 1k. It got to a point where I would walk backwards and lead them away because they were so desperate to finally get a kill of me that they would walk away from their entire group, leaving his team completely vulnerable. They were also so desperate to get a kill that their shatter became extremely easy to read and I would shield it constantly.

I get so frustrated when people say Hog doesn't need a nerf. I often pair up with my brother and we're support mains, we got so fed up with getting one shotted, I learned Orisa just so I could deal with the countless hogs. I now queue Tank when pairing up with my brother, so I can protect my supports.
And that's exactly what the meta centres around.
Because hog is so broken right now, you are obligated to either play him or Orisa to have the best chance at winning.
That means that supports and dps are centred around killing hog/orisa and sustaining them. It's really stale.
The people claiming that he isnt broken and he doesnt need a nerf are only saying that because they play him and it's inflated their rank.

I usually play Winston and if I win first fight the pig walks out and I pretty much have to switch unless the hog is straight garbage because of how bad a matchup it is for monkey and I need to help my supports

I still believe kiriko having a cleanse is a problem and will cause many issues and debate about other characters in the future since it remove the ability to counter strong characters with status
Well the problem is now things like Ana Nade is being buffed to counter the cleanse power so if cleanse is removed then other characters will have to change with that as well
@@matthewvest5191 yeah but introducing a cleanse mechanic was a very big mistake imo and it will really cause issues or limit future character designs like for exemple now they can't really use self heal as a mechanic anymore for tanks or we ll have the roadhog issue coming back

Cleanse isn't the issue. It's the invulnerability. Cleanse is actually decent utility but giving invul to low HP targets is a bit much
@@GaussianEntity I would even hazard to say it isnt even cleanse or temporary invulnerability. Zarya Hog wasnt ever a combo in Overwatch 1, zarya bubbles effectively did the same thing for hog as with a kiriko, just no heals from it. Yet it never became a meta strategy. I would say the change to 1 tank allowed hog to flourish, the nerf to zarya made her less popular on top of playstyle change made zarya selfish with her bubbles meant that anytime a hog gets a hook, it becomes harder to deny it or to prevent it in the first place. On top of that, shield tanks falling out of favour for the most part. Rein shield was relatively effective at denying hooks, Sigma shield as well with some prediction on hook times. Also the fact that, hog just kinda 1v1s most tanks? I cannot think of a tank that has an advantage against hog outside of Orisa. Those are my takes at least.
5:00 My favourite part about this, is Hog's hook has the same range and 3x the speed of Widow's grapple. You know, the thing the people complain about the sniper having too much mobility with, but it's on a shorter cololdown.
In the competitive pokemon community they use the term Checks aswell as Counters
Counters being, something scary comes out, you throw your counter in, the counter should win assuming RNG doesn't get in the way.
Check being, you're not "guaranteed" to beat it outright, but using it correctly to play around the scary thing you can use your check to well, keep it in check.
Yeah sojourn and hog are the equivalent of Ubers Pokémon being left in OU, and it’s ridiculous
the reaper hitting shift out of pin comment made me think what if they made the shooting after hook animation take a tad longer so people with escape abilites (ex tracer reaper moira) can just save their abilities to keep themseleves alive from hook
I think they should do what they did with open queue to 6v6 so we can choose if we want to play 5v5 or 6v6 and also have a gamemode that has 2cp so the new players can suffer like how we used to… 😂

Hog doesn’t need a nerf bc the solider was flanking, it is bc his heal is too good and he can hook you from another damn reality.
Rein's pin has a cast delay, a travel delay, exposes himself to the enemy team, gets him out of position, and Rein has no way to heal and reduce damage after he goes in like that
Hog has a small delay, it travels fast, it doesn't expose him, in fact even if the Hog is bad and doesn't one shot you he puts u in the middle of his team, and if he gets focused he just heals and runs
I'm kinda new to the game, but in that little time I have dodged Rein with FUCKING SPRINT, meanwhile Hog caught me many times in the middle of Mccree's roll with that funky hitbox

Yeah, it sucks that Sojourn is the type of character I've been wanting to play for years and have been looking forward to playing her. And then I have to feel guilty because she comes out busted.
Went through the same thing with Brig. I wanted to play a "Healing Reinhardt" since OW1 launched, then she came out and everybody hated her.

Hog isn't just unfair because you can get one shot by him (he would be unfair because of just that anyways). But you basically have to kill him twice thanks to his heal.

Here's how you deal with Hogs defenders. Ignore them. Most Hog defenders only like him for his one shot ability. As a reminder Hog is a great anti dive tank. So every time they complain that he'd be useless without his one shot it's probably because they only play him for the one shot.
As a reaper main it's an ultimate dishonor to let any cc hit you. Learning how to use wraith is the 2nd most important thing for a reaper. 1st would be aim/positioning. When it comes to learning how to target characters most of the time I'm going after enemy dps unless healers are giving a hard time. I don't hunt tanks that often mainly because it wastes time unless the tank is low or being targeted by my team atm to take them out.

Like if someone says Moira or Bastion or Rammatra or whoever is OP there's a lot of reasons you can explain why they're wrong; they're usually making a lot of little low-rank mistakes that add up and/or lack game sense in key areas. GM players will say that Hog is OP and the response is always like 'just don't get hooked'

You could Zen + Bastion + Sojourn/Reaper + Mercy/Ana etc etc to just blow him up nearly instantly when he comes in for the hook, especially if you have a tank that can block his hook for you, such as Rein or Sigma. But this is a problem similar to OW1 Bastion, you need your TEAM to play around that ONE hero who is being a menace to the game~

Hey flats I just had an idea I don’t know if this was implemented earlier in overwatch but what if one of the nerfs to road hog is that he has to charge his hook to get the maximum distance so say he has to hold it for 1.5s for a full range hook
Also cooldown should be based on if he hits the hook or not
That guy that talked about his gold gun choices likely started at overwatch 2 like I did, it’s pretty cool choosing who to give the cosmetic too after all your hours grinding for it.

Yep, If i didnt have the aim of a small child with an uzi I'd be picking her everytime as a DPS. I dont like her specifically because of how precise her railgun in.
If you cant aim properly she's pointless to pick. If you can aim she's an objectively better soldier 76 with one-shot potential, and can dominate matches.
@@rasmachris94 you dont even need to be precise, my ass is terrible at aiming. I can get like 50% railgun accuracy with ease, thats how easy it is to land. For reference, my best games on s76 has 35% accuracy

Depends, what tank do you play?
The way you deal with Orisa is to not deal with Orisa. If an Orisa manages her cooldowns right and has the support of her team she's basically unkillable. Try to go after her squishies; harass supports, try to deny the damage getting value, etc. You still need to peel for your backline and prevent the enemy tank from being to oppressive to your squishies, but in most cases dueling the enemy tank isn't the play. Orisa in particular won't be vulnerable until your team has a numbers advantage.

Bold take: The only reason Sojourn was underperforming at low ranks is because she was a new hero with an overpowered skill shot (one season of Sojourn with plenty of new and returning players isn't a fair assessment of her overall value at low level). Had lower level players had more exposure to her she eventually would have climbed and become overpowered. Just because she wasn't seeing good performances didn't mean she wasn't fundamentally broken.

There was a "feature" in Gears of War of War 3, where if the same enemy killed you 5 times or more they would become your "nemesis" and killing them would award you with an "insignia" that would count towards a medal, a cosmetic you could use for other people to see (kinda like the BP titles in ow2)
