Very roomy to carry 5 adults in comfort This particular model has big ground clearance and suspension specifically set up for Baja type of off road usage… Other vehicles available from Chev etc Buy what suits your particular requirements
The half ton class of trucks transitioned into lifestyle vehicles. Typical buyers in this segment are towing lighter trailers/hauling lighter loads and want the comfort of a softer suspension. Plus the ZR2 is specifically an off roader which further softens the suspension. Anyone that wants a Chevy pickup to tow or haul heavier loads is going to step up to a 2500 or 3500. The current payload leader among class 3 pickups is the regular cab F450 (still a class 3 in pickup form - GVWR/GVM of 14,000 lbs) with a maximum payload of 8,000 lbs/3600kg.
About the mirrors - I've been driving my 2018 Acadia with this mirror setup since new and I can say it is way better on the highway, way worse in the city, than the regular type.
I just bought one this week here in the states. Got every option but sunroof. I find it interesting that they make these more often than not without the moonroof. I couldn’t find one anywhere that had the moonroof, 6.2, and flex tailgate. But living in Miami Florida I never use the sunroof on any of my vehicles bc of how sunny and how it is here year round.
717kg payload. 350kg TBM, 100kg fuel, 2 adults and 2 kids 240kg, ain’t any payload left to put ANYTHING in that huge tub. The biggest downside to this almighty tow rig. Disappointing.
This is exactly my problem with these big trucks. I tow an American Rockwood caravan of around 3.5 tons...and I use an Audi Q7 with air suspension. I have a full 805kg payload, which I can use while towing 3.5 tons without exceeding the GCM, GVM, Rear axle load etc. If I had to "upgrade" to one of these American trucks, I would just gain a lower payload! I an very happy with the Q7 as a tow vehicle.
@@OlyMar83 They aren't popular with those who tow more than a boat or light trailer. The 1/2 tons (Silverado/Sierra 1500, Ram 1500, F150, Tundra) are family haulers that people use to tow small trailers every once in a while. If you tow a small trailer often or a mid-size trailer at all you move from the full size pickup segment to the large pickup segment. I personally wouldn't tow more than 8,000 lbs with a 1/2 ton and even less with a mid-size. My Ram 2500 was fine for trailers up to 14,000lbs, but is not suitable for my Big Tex 25GN 26000lb gooseneck trailer. Still waiting for Ford to build the replacement for the Ram.
@@noeleric28 At 3500kg you are maxing out your tow rating on a Q7. I won't go higher than 80% of rated trailer weight no matter what the tow vehicle is.

HUD , Adaptive Cruise control, rear mirror Camera built in, Bose sound system…. Biggest down fall is th DFM shutting down half your engine and running it dry then engaging it when you punch it . 2 engines ,12,000 km sold the junker
Nice looking car. However the cost to run is very exxy. At 19l/100 km, a trip from Brisbane to Sydney would cost around $330. I wouldn't like to pay the fuel bill going around Australia towing a large caravan. Even if i could afford a $130k vehicle.
Gold Coast/Toowoomba return with a weekend stay over 9.7l/100. Townsville/Gold Coast return 11.3l/100. Both trips not towing. GC to Birdsville to Mt Gambier to Walgett to GC towing 2.5t 16.7l/100 . GPS speed limit.
If you plan to tow a trailer of any size very often or for a longer distance the Chevy to get is the Duramax equipped 3500HD. Fuel economy will be much better than any of the gasoline/petrol options and the heavier truck will handle the load far better. That being said, both Ford and Ram are outperforming GM when it comes to towing at the moment.
Can someone please explain the science behind why these USA things all have like 700kg payload, when our much smaller medium Utes, such as ranger/hilux can get the 1T. I suspect it’s due to suspension setup….but surely they can’t be that different.
Suspension setup and because of the size of these things if they were rated to full load you would need an MR licence here. They have higher load capacity in the States buts rated lower so Joe Bloggs can still get one on his regular car licence.
@@matthewh8005 The bed payload is the same in the states. You can get up to a 1 ton payload if you select the right model but not on the ZR2. Unless you select the workhorse models then most of the US trucks have lower bed payloads. Its a mix of the suspension for comfort and performance in higher models and the fact that the size of the vehicle already has more weight on the rear than a Japanese truck. In general most people would rather have more comfort at the cost of a little bed weight considering most are not used for work. But yes if they did sell the models with larger payloads and towing capacity then it would require and MR licence fully loaded in Aus. I live in the states at the moment and I basically never see a low spec model unless its loaded up for work, maybe one in thirty trucks.
Both of the previous answers have some good info, but a lot of it comes down to the fact that we don't really use this class (class 2A - GVWR/GVM over 6,600 lbs up to 8,500 lbs) for heavy work. The class 2A trucks have suspensions designed to make them very comfortable over long distances. This is something that the stiffer suspension of the Hilux doesn't offer. Anyone planning on hauling heavier loads or towing a larger trailer (4.5t trailers are not considered large here, medium trailers start at 10,000 lbs) is going to skip the class 2A trucks and go straight to a class 2B (8,501 to 10,000 lb GVWR/GVM) or higher. We have the advantage of being able to drive anything with a GVM/GVWR up to 26,000 lbs on a standard passenger license. My daily driver for 12 years was a 2011 Ram 2500 diesel (class 2B) and it was also payload limited (around 1500kg payload). This didn't cause many issues when towing trailers up to 14,000 lbs, but it was not really suitable for larger trailers especially if they required a bed mounted hitch. Currently waiting for a factory order of a F450 pickup which will have close to 6,000lbs/2.7t of payload.
I almost forgot, the Rangers that we get in the US don't have a 1000kg payload rating. The maximum that we can get is in the stripped down 2wd Ranger XL which has a rating of 1,805 lbs/818 kg. By the time you get to a 4wd Lariat you are below 700kg of payload.
When y'all do the off road tests can you do a round without the rear differential locked? Would be nice to see the efficacy of the trucks programming without any additional helpers.
Why no testing lane keep assist in this review, glad to see the big grin it was bringing. I watched the F150 test yesterday and from memory this guzzler is down on power/tongue and acceleration with far worse fuel economy than the ford. The Cummins ISB is available in the 2500,3500,4500 and 5500 (4500 and 5500 are only available as cab and chassis). The biggest problem with the 2500 (my daily driver for 12 years) is that the engine is heavy (over 1000 lbs without transmission) and the 2500 is limited to a maximum of 10,000 lb GVWR/GVM (class 2B truck is 8,501 to 10,000 lbs). This limits the payload and can be a problem with trailers over 12,000 lbs when you have more weight in the truck itself. Plus the new 2500s have coil spring rear suspension which is less than ideal for mid-size trailers (10,000 to 15,000 lbs). If you want to go with the diesel in the Ram the 3500 SRW is a better choice than the 2500 especially given that there is almost no difference in price. The other thing to keep in mind if you are going for a short bed is that Ram had the shortest bed of the 3 HD brands. This can cause issues with cab clearance on tighter turns with a fifth wheel.
@@rich7447 mate, I appreciate what youre saying but all of that is irrelvant to Aussies. The 3500 is incredibly more expensive to the 2500 here in Australia and requires a light truck licence. We only get the 2500/ 3500 Laramie here and the 3500 as amazing as it would be is not something I can easily get or afford. Even the 2500 is pushing what I am willing to pay for atm
@@matthewh8005 It's unfortunate that they rape you so badly for the higher GVWR pickups in Australia. The difference between a Ram 1500 and 2500 is $7k in the US. Ram 2500 to 3500 SRW is another $2k. It should cost no more to convert a 2500/3500 to RHD since the cabs are the same as the 1500 and the steering on the live axle is much simpler than it is on the IFS. Light truck license for a 3500 is overkill too. We can go up to class 6 without upgrading to a rigid truck license (class B). I finally have a build date on my F450 King Ranch which will double as my daily driver when it arrives. It's a little over $100k out the door (truck prices have gone crazy) due to the higher trim, but no upgraded license required. With the conversion I believe that you are paying close to that for the F150 Lariat.
Lools good and nice note. Issues payload, fuel usage comparison to the other usa trucks, performance isnt great as f150 is faster, but offroad teck is good but without lockers is very lacking. Still no comparison to a ranger raptor as it's an arounder, i would almost go it but leaf springs and steering link box set up has stopped me but i want a bigger car i guess you need to make compromises
The trouble is, is that the 6.2 suffers from Dynamic Fuel Management valve lifter failures. There are multiple class action lawsuits against GM for it. Not very reliable.

How does this compare to the Holden Colorado Z71?
What’s the box in the tub? Aux battery?
You forgot to mention the lifter failures this engine is experiencing it’s one of the reasons Ram outsells them 3 to 1
Speedo view on back straight please!
I nearly bought one last year ! Decided on the Pan Am Amarok .. does everything the Chev does and $60k cheaper
Except it’s not a 6.2 litre Chev that puts a smile on your face every time you start/drive it.

So do GMSV do all the conversions in Melbourne ? ( Used to be called HSV 😪 ) And no radar cruise in 2024 is ridiculous...
Paul, use Cromo-FRESH Eye Drops. I get shocking hay fever eyes and that's the only thing that's made my eyes normal for the last few months.
🙌
@@CarExpertAusany truth to the rumour (Alborz or Geordie started) that ‘hay fever’ is code for something else since the RUclips fame went to your head?
Why do all trucks in AUS seem to have the rack in the bed?
Which app you using measuring 0 to 100 ?
can you make a side by side comparison to Chevy Colorado?
it's so weird seeing a silverado in rhd coming from america and canada
To be fair, Ive had my trail boss under 10LP/100 from Ballina to Brisbane. All highway of course.
You're a lead foot lol
What's the big black box in the trunk?
Optional accessory item.
It’s a lockable & weatherproof storage box.
For tools etc, etc…
Yes, for tools…
Need you to do different Diesel fuel brand comparison. I still looking for best diesel fuel brand. Anyone recommend any?
Will you be reviewing the MY24 spec ZR2?
It’s got a HUD, Bose speakers and bimodal exhaust, otherwise identical.
Id love to see you review the RAM with Cummins engine. The 2500 I think it is.
It has front & rear lockers, which were clearly demonstrated in the video
🤷🏻♂️
The steering box is the original factory item. It's mounted upside-down for right hand configuration
@murrayconnelly5063 so isnt using a linkage from the right side to the original left side
People buy these large American trucks for the towing capacity not to mall crawl while towing jetskis 😂😂
@@JamieWilliams-j9znope, it is converted completely
The new Colorado is way nicer now....
The trouble is, is that the 6.2 suffers from Dynamic Fuel Management valve lifter failures. There are multiple class action lawsuits against GM for it. Not very reliable.
Yes thats true.... It's better to go with the 3l Duramax diesel...
Why do you always have to use mid top range? Why can you not used base model level?
What about chevy? Looking at buying a silverado 1500.
Vs the humveee?
another 1500 review do a 2500 or 3500. what cant you get one to review ?
Not much difference in price starting from just under 130k then the ZR2 just over 130k is that the top end spec?
@10:37. Fuel economy of 28.3L per 100 Km. Wow.
I thought 2024 came with premium sound and sports exhaust. I think this is still 2023
Aussie models are a bit behind. What the USA calls 2023 we call 2024 due to the allocation and compliance process here.
@@CarExpertAus nope, you may have got it wrong… fy24 comes with active exhaust and premium sound.

Hi Paul,
I sometimes watch Motor Feed for US trucks: Similar model new 2024 but with Duramax diesel engine: us$52.500,-

Or move to the US! ?😢
Does anyone here actually benefit from the durometer test he does on the vehicles
No benefit at all. But just like The Straight Pipes’ visor test, I expect it and find it strangely interesting.
