Was picked up from the airport by my brother in law in one of these mountainous beast when I visited Canada last year from SA. Made a double cab look like a Mr. Bean Mini Cooper. Getting inside it felt like was sitting in a spacious lounge. Its like a luxury bus. Fit for purpose in the farming province of Saskatchewan, pulling water bowsers, motor home, and car carrying trailers.

I own the 1500 version of this as well as a f250, the capability these vehicles offer our farming business is supreme no duelcab ute comes close. Only gripe with the chevy is they use waxed chassis ,its a black wax coating that attracts thick dust and requires maintenance to address surface rust in areas where the coating has been depleted. Can't use lanolin or petroleum based oils on it as it softens the factory coating. We put it over a hoist every 12 months and clean and re-coat with cosmoline and black oxide which is the closest product to the factory coating..

Thx for the review. We’re in the market for a HD style truck to be a towing tourer, be it ram or Chevy, with a possible Tundra depending on weight figures once released. Would love to see a tow test for the Chevy at 4t+. Would be great if you could manage that. You mention that you could only Tow 3.5t on NB1, and needed NB2 for above 3.5t are you sure about that?

Toyo doesn't compete in the HD truck segment. The Tundra competes with the lighter duty F150, Ram 1500, GM 1500. All of these are class 2A trucks. HDs start at class 2B.

    • @frankmicallef2839
      @frankmicallef2839 4 месяца назад

The big issue is towing 3.5t or more is the payload at just over 700 kg is very restrictive. Remember if your van is 2.5t then you have to deduct about 250kg from your payload. 500 kg mean 2 people and not much weight in the tray, or 4 people and almost no further weight can be carried. Getting the car registered as nb2 is a lot cheaper than retro fitting it to that. So my advice is in almost all cases if you are towing 2.5 tonnes plus buy it as nb2 speced and you won’t have to worry about your weights again.

If u r referring to Tundra.
300 vehicles r currently with a specially selected group of people.
These people have the Tundra on a special lease deal from Toyota.
They have to report their thoughts etc on the vehicle
They don’t get to keep the vehicle
These Tundra r not necessarily how the final production vehicles will be.
If all goes well, and if Toyota r happy etc, the Tundra will officially go ahead.
Final decision from Toyota will b made by late 2024.
Tundra will then b available to the public, next year.
Unlikely Toyota will give any Tundra to motoring journalists etc, until at least, late this year

They keep saying there is no market for them yet we seem to keep proviing there is but still we are gettting shafted on prices. Bigger roll bars will help .

Most of these trucks in the USA end up hauling a fifth wheel trailer/RV .

Australia de-rates the towing capability on these vehicles to the point where you could fill every inch and still be able to tow at max Aussie tow rating. This truck is rated to tow 22,500lbs on a gooseneck in the US. We also tend to move to a 3500 for larger fifth wheels.

Tow rating in the US is 16,000 lbs/7250kg conventional and 22,500/10,200kg for bed mounted hitch. Then you add the 7,800 lb/3,500kg weight of the truck to get GCM. So roughly 10.75T conventional and 13.7T bed for gooseneck/fifth wheel.
Anyone using a 2500 for more than 16,000 lbs needs psychiatric help. I have run 14K on a Ram 2500 diesel many times with only one issue that was manageable, but would not have been with a lot more weight.
