Well it’s been a little bit but we are back with another diy video. Hopefully this helps someone out in the future.
I had hit a rock off-roading (yes it happens I know it and I’m not complaining) it messed my alignment up and made the steering wheel not sit straight while driving. The shop got the alignment dialed in but could not get the wheel to go straight with adjusting tie rods or anything else. So I took it home and looked into.
From the get go I figured something slipped (tooth) or something was bend/ tweaked. After checking it out, it was either separating the shaft under the hood (which is very hard to do) or going under the dash. I chose to go under dash and fix it. The video will show you how I fixed mine, keep in mind I’m not a professional.

Good information. Just toke my less than 300 mile 2022 TRD Off-Road mudding in the back of the property, got stuck and had to get the tractor to pull it out. Steering wheels is slightly out of alignment but she drives straight. I’ll fix it this weekend.
But did you have fun?! Usually if it’s off just a bit it just needs an alignment. Mine was definitely caused by being bound up between some rocks.

Thanks, 1997 Tacoma. New rack, and wonk on the steering wheel. I too have had trouble after alignment since the rack... Still not completely clear on what you did, like what bolts you had to loosen or did that cover come off all the way; but you give me hope.
I’m not sure on your year but this 2018 only had one bolt accessible under the dash.
Thinking i need to do this with mine. I almost ran out of thread to tow one side in more. Only way i can get my tie rods threaded in evenly would be to have a crooked steering wheel
I have one outer tie rod threaded on 18 rotations and the other one is threaded 15 rotations. Seems like they should be even but that would make my wheel even more crooked
Yeah the shop tried adjusting mine but they couldn’t get the wheel straight. So I just did this myself to get it back straight.
Did having the steering wheel off mess with your cruise control? My cruis control ig giving a malfunction error and the dealership is saying that it is due to the steering wheel being off.
Yes, it actually wouldn’t “hold” cruise when it was all messed up.
I having this issue, I have my trucked aligned and have stop cam bolts with the tierods being the same too. Did your truck drive straight just steering wheel was off center? My truck drive straight as freak just the steering wheel is off
Yeah, drove straight just fine. I was getting regular alignments lol. Wheel was just off and alignment wouldn’t fix it
Just did this and I couldnt find anything to spread the clamp so I put a thin piece of metal in there and put the bolt back in and as you tighten it will spread the clamp. So easy great vid. Also warfab is the tits
