Good video, but putting those tools and appliances to their intended purposes would be helpful. I have a 2017 Off Road and use the electrical outlet a lot, but it is obviously light duty. I charge my Sony DSLR, my Bose speakers, and other devices that can’t be charged from a 12 bolt outlet. Portable tools would certainly fall into that category at least, even if they performed poorly under a load. I also am able to run a small air compressor to air up when I get back to civilization. I never thought of taking a blender, but the concept of trail margaritas is certainly appealing! And the Yeti holds ice for days. I have even charged items while driving. Just make sure they are tightly packed. I leave my camera in its case, which is amply padded. Works great!

Used to power my son's JBL EON 1 when he'd set up to jam guitar in the park. 2014 Tacoma 4x4 TRD.
JBL is "380 watts of power, 118 dB max".
Also had a pedal board plugged into a power strip. Wah wah, boost, etc.
Performed flawlessly with engine off and I'd crank engine every so often so as to not drain battery.
Hed play about 2hrs , aeems like your truck should run a toaster!

Awesome video on demonstrating the power outlet. Thanks. I see you bike ride. That’s another reason I bought my Taco. Can you one day do a video on how you transport the bikes in the bed of the truck. I know everyone has their way of doing it and I’d like to get other people’s way of doing it. I sort of line mine up in the bed then strap them down. Since mine is the short bed I can’t close the tailgate. Sometimes I need to put in 4+ bikes in mine and it starts getting tricky.

When you turned the truck on did you bump up on the switch to 400 rather then 100? It appeared that you went to just turn the truck on not the switch in the cab, it has to be bumped up to 400 setting it was probably in the 100 mod setting, if you had set it @ 400 when you started the truck the compressor would had worked, just running the truck does not turn the switch automatically to 400 I have an 017 tacoma trd offroad my switch has 2 settings on it 100 & 400 using the 400 setting you can run the compressor no problem the ac outlet can pretty much handle anything as long as the switch is in correct setting just wanted to clarify that on this feature.

Most electrical items will tell you how much power they consume. I wouldn't be putting a 450 watt plus item on there, even if it seems to work, it won't for long. Damage to the item & the inverter is a likely result. A little common sense goes a long way.

It’s good for things such as if u have to cut something do a short job pump up a tire what not, but for me we have a camp we go to now and then and I thaught it would be great just to plug it into the truck and run lights and radio instead of using the generator, the problem I see with it is it only works with the key on the on position instead of accessories, which means the headlights and taillights are on all the time as well as interior dash lights radio etc ! Kind of defeats the purpose unless I’m doing something wrong

This is an assured test. Beginning with test number 4 at 100watts would likely be fail if tested properly under load. Instead of plugging in a drill and running it, try to actually drill a hole or cut something. More likely than not, the breaker would kick over or the fuse would fly.

One thing to bear in mind is that he only used each thing for 1-3 seconds. If he tried to actually make a piece of toast he'd have found out that the power will stop after less than a minute. Then you have to turn the vehicle off and back on and push the button again. At least, that's what happens in my 22 TRD Off Road when I try to use it with anything but a very, very low draw appliance.

Well you did not test the drill and the jigsaw under a load. If you’re going to do a test like this you really should get a white meter to connect in between whatever appliance you want to use and the output of the truck. What I’d really like to know is when you plug the toaster in did the RPM of the engine change as the load came up
. I do give you credit for trying

  • @mrperson296
    @mrperson296 6 лет назад +3

You really should not be trying to plug in all those devices into that outlet. 400 watts is not a lot of power. Trying to run power tools / kitchen appliances with heating elements is neither good for the tool or the trucks power inverter. Trying to run an electrical motor on less power than its rated for can burn out the tool, and trying to run a toaster / waffle iron can damage the inverter or at the bare minimum burn out its fuse. That tacomas outlet is good for things like utility lights, a television, and maybe some small amperage devices like a fan or a battery charger for your power tools.

I'm guessing it would do both. Using it for a ski iron would be a great use! With an electric blanked I'd worry about draining the battery.

If you don’t have electric converter in bed before buying Tacoma can you have it installed at dealership before you buy Tacoma, and will it be as capable if installed

How long can you run power from that outlet with the vehicle being off ? Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.

Ok but how do you get it to stay on while you are driving? Is this a possibility? As soon as I put my clutch in or am in gear it cute the power to it.

Would this run the dometic cfx345 while traveling? Vs cigarette lighter and having it in cab from point a to b? Then I could use the jackery once at camp when the truck is off. Any insight?
