Another great song that could be a 2020 anthem but unfortunately isn't very well known is "Keep Your Distance" by Richard Thompson, who's also one of the best guitarists in the world.
Peter Gabriel made to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for a reason because he’s simply eclectic, brilliant and an awesome writer and performer. I advise you to watch his induction ceremony performance. It’s awesome!
Back in the early Genesis days, he was really avant garde and that continued in his solo work. He has some great songs. I remember when Shock the Monkey was in heavy rotation on MTV.
Okay, you did "Sledgehammer" and "Steam" now you ought to finish up the round of crazy Peter Gabriel videos with "Big time" which is without a doubt his craziest.
I studied multimedia design at York University in Toronto in the late 1980s, right at the beginning of Internet. This interactive Peter Gabriel cd with videos, games, etc, was our model. Not just music and videos but you could insert it into your computer and interact with it. Groundbreaking!
Peter Gabriel was way ahead of his time....love him, creative, intelligent and talented. Surreal and conceptual, mind blowing along with great musical arrangements and deep lyrics. Jamal please watch him live with the Blind Boys of Alabama in Sky Blue.
Peter Gabriel is one of those unique artists who just go with what pops into their minds. Warren Zevon, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel...... a class of their own.
Please do more Peter Gabriel. Songs like big time, red rain, shock the monkey, mercy street, digging in the dirt, no self control, games without frontiers, and I don’t remember m. My mom before she passed away got me hooked on him. He is our fav artist.
The Brits were pioneers in video production back in the day. Many of the computer graphics were done in Britain. You can see it in Gabriel’s videos, “Hard Woman” - Rolling Stones, “And She Was” - Talking Heads. Even check out the extended version of Duran Duran’s “Wild Boys” videos!
As a casual Gabriel fan, I can say without hesitation that Peter Gabriel’s Secret World is one of my favorite concert dvds. Paula Cole guesting on female vocals.
Saw Mr. Gabriel at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal many years ago. He was wearing a jumpsuit, and was so fantastic. Also there was Tracy Chapman...closer was the Boss. Though I enjoyed all the artists, Peter was my favourite. Happy Saturday!
MTV is utter dogshit these days. Back in the early 80's right up to early 90's,it was essential for all music but then turned to populist, teenage crap that continues to this day. EVERYTHING was better before.
I remember back when the effects for this video was cutting edge! The shots of CG Peter Gabriel was mindblowing technology back then! Please watch some of his live videos, especially from the Secret World tour!
I mean, the man tried to do for CGI what Sledgehammer did for claymation. Is it kinda janky by modern standards? Sure. But do I remember it getting heavy airplay back in the day because it was just so awesome and weird and strangely horny in a way that Sledgehammer only hints at? Fuck yes.
Secret World is great stuff, but I'm very much a fan of the Growing Up tour - not only does still have a great voice, but it also included some material from his then recent album Up and did some fun stuff onstage with props and scenery that hark back to his Genesis days. Also, everyone in the band is dressed in black, all the guys have shaved heads, and all the roadies and techies are dressed like Buddhist monks. ;P
More Peter Gabriel please! He is amazing! Thanks for this beautiful reaction Jamel! You cannot NOT move to this song when you hear it! A man who really enjoys his craft!
Much love and recognition to Tony Levin who plays bass with Funk Fingers as well as Chapman Stick on Peter's albums. He's a huge part of Peter's sound and a legend in his own right.
Peter Gabriel's videos are so entertaining, but so are Jamel's reactions! It's hard to choose where to look. Thank you Jamel, for all you do. You are brightening everyone's lives with your content.
Always found peter gabriels songs to be positive and upbeat. the song"big time" for reaction a social commentary on greed in the 80s but with a fun twist, great song .cool and fun reaction jamal.peace ; )
Jamel: He's over there shaking that tree-- me: But "Shaking the Tree" is another song entirely! Us (the album this is on) is one of the albums that came out when I was 4-6 that was a Household Standard. (others: Diva, Annie Lennox; Second Wind, Todd Rundgren; Gordon, Barenaked Ladies.) "Come Talk To Me" is probably my favorite and "Kiss That Frog" is silly and fun, but the whole thing is excellent.
Peter Gabriel has some fantastic songs. “In Your Eyes” and “Solsbury Hill” are both great songs. “Games Without Frontiers” is a well crafted song with somewhat controversial lyrics. Controversial in that it’s not entirely clear why he is saying, and they were changed upon subsequent releases, creating some additional controversy. It’s totally understandable if you don’t want to tackle a song like that, but it is worth a listen.
As a teen in the 80's I was excited to get my first boom-box with a cd player, and Peter Gabriel's "SO" was the first music CD I bought (which I still have). He is such a great artist musically, visually and spiritually...one of the best!
Peter Gabriel was one of my mom's favorite artists and I grew up in the early 90s with _So_ on repeat in the car cassette player. Several years back I went on a new wave kick and rediscovered his stuff. "Sledgehammer," "Big Time," and "Steam" are probably my favorites in his catalogue, but "Shock the Monkey" is up there and obviously you can't deny the power of "In Your Eyes." I mean, his entire solo catalogue is full of great tracks, small though it is for someone as talented and influential as he was.
Music fans were the winners when Peter Gabriel left Genesis, we had that great bands music and his wonderful works as well! What could possibly go wrong? 😌
Having already seen this vid a few times I couldn't wait to just study your reaction all the way through. You didn't fail me one second, you little freaky deaky!!!
I heard Peter talk about the steam room scene where all their reactions were authentic because the set wasn't supposed to tilt back and forth like it did. So as they were working on it they decided to go with the set tilting each direction and everyone sliding around. Everyone had such a good time they filmed it and used it in the video.
Peter Gabriel's live music is even better than the studio recordings! Check out the "Secret World live tour"- "In Your Eyes", "Digging in the Dirt", "Solsbury Hill", and "Shaking the Tree" are all awesome live from this concert!
Love your stuff man, I live in this music era. So, as one comment on a different video said, "When I listen to my music, so do my neighbors." Never stop doin' what you do.
You really can’t go wrong with Peter Gabriel. “Blood of Eden” was our wedding song, 20 years ago this summer. It would make my day if you react to that!
I just watched a full live concert of his, where he did this one an many of his other big hits. His videos were the best ever, on MTV. Interesting, you get so wrapped up in the cool vid that it is is easy to forget that the music is great too.
Back in the day with Genesis (Phil Collins just the drummer then) He used to come on in the freaky deakiest outfits you ever saw. His wife's red dress and a flower pot on his head was one of the many! Amazing creative man.
I play this song to motivate me when I have run out of steam. I need steeeaaam. Outstandingly entertaining reaction from you. You really dug it. Stand back - the 2020 anthem
Peter Gabriel is on one hand a serious artist, often writing about serious subjects, but sometimes he lets rip with some seriously silly fun, this is one of those, and it is glorious.

This version of in your eyes is amazing
This song is so freaking addictive!!!
Digging In The Dirt has to be one of best music videos of Peter Gabriel.
A must watch!
You can tell when an artist loves their craft and Peter Gabriel loves his craft
You know where that imagination and creativity came from. Right?
He loves it, and how can you not love the performance!? ... real as anything you've seen!
"Stand back!" - the 2020 anthem. :-D :-D :-D
😂
Another great song that could be a 2020 anthem but unfortunately isn't very well known is "Keep Your Distance" by Richard Thompson, who's also one of the best guitarists in the world.

Jamel, You'll love his "In Your Eyes", "Solsbury Hill" and "Shock The Monkey"
Three good songs there alright!
The Secret World Live version of In Your Eyes is amazing.
The video to Shock the Monkey is epic.
All great picks!, shock the monkey is epic!!
Hundred Percent Agree with all these. Would also add on Mercy Street and Don't Give Up.
Really, all of the album "So" is worthy of attention.
Back in the early Genesis days, he was really avant garde and that continued in his solo work. He has some great songs. I remember when Shock the Monkey was in heavy rotation on MTV.
Yes. He and Phil Collins, co-founders of Genesis.
@@matthewmontegut9159 actually Peter was one of the founders but Phil was not, he joined as drummer on their 3rd alvum
For a trip, see Genesis’ 1973 live version of “I Know What I Like” , with Gabriel performing in costumes and Collins on drums.
@@matthewmontegut9159 Peter was a founding member, but Phil was not. Phil didn’t join the band until the Nursery Cryme album in 1971.

"Digging In the Dirt" is great too
Big time is the best.
Yup, check out Big Time
Not as surreal, but Red Rain would be great too.
yep, " a pillow for my big fat head"...a song for "the Donald" inadvertently
I've loved Peter Gabriel's songs for most of my life, but boy did his videos give me nightmares! 😅
Peter Gabriel has a lot of soul in his material. You can tell his musical influences included old skool R&B
Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey". Unbelievable vibe and the video is awesome.
Jamel, you will love the funkrock in Shock the Monkey.
Have not seen this in years 😄 it gets easy to forget how much fun videos can be. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I love shock the monkey live.
There’s no one like PG. no one.
HIS VIDEOS WERE VERY ENTERTAINING!!
So Peter what visual effects you gonna be wanting in the music video?
Peter Gabriel: Y E S
Peter Gabriel has had some of the best creative video's ever to go along with his amazing music.
Peter Gabriel never shy away singing about sex in his music, "Sledgehammer", "Kiss the Frog" and of course "Steam"
Peter Gabriel was always ahead of his time. He was one of the first - if not the first - to record entirely digital.
Donald Fagan did it first. 1980 night fly album.
Saw him at The Spectrum in Philly in '86. One of the best concerts I've ever been to and I've been to a few; just an incredible showman.

Peter Gabriel was known for breakthrough, cutting edge videos in the 80s & 90s. His live shows are visually innovative as well. Love him!
As a casual Gabriel fan, I can say without hesitation that Peter Gabriel’s Secret World is one of my favorite concert dvds. Paula Cole guesting on female vocals.

@@Excitable67 definitely agree,
Great gig that one and well worth a watch.
PG was inclusive LONG before it became fashionable as the musicians he chooses proves.
Thats Genesis for ya. Every member of that band were true artists.
Peter Gabriel is my favorite singer ever-you should watch the official video for Shock the Monkey-that one is classic, and bizarre.

This album has one of the greatest rhythm sections ever, with Tony Levin on bass and Manu Katche on drums! What an incredible combination!
From back when MTV meant actual Music Television.
The videos were the bomb & not crappy reality tv.

Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush do an awesome duet you should listen to on “Don’t give up”. If you like Joni, you will also like Kate Bush.
Yes! and a very different side of Peter from this and Sledgehammer
