Great song, one of the most iconic songs not just of the 80’s but in pop music history. I would like to add that when people say they don’t make music like this anymore, you have to remember we’re listening to the best of the best. There was plenty of crap made back in the day as well (and that applies to whenever “back in the day” is for you). And so in another couple of decades we’ll be listening to the top, massive, hits of today and saying the same thing (“Uptown Funk”, anyone?). There’ll always be great music. Thanks, Jamal, for bringing the older stuff back for those of us who remember when it was new and for those of you for whom it’s new now.

I tlked to Peter about this video one day, he told me that his part took a whole week to do and he hat to get a seperate phone line installed in his office just answer calls aon who made the video! He is a really nice guy, the compasny I worked for designed his studio at Ford, near Bath in Somerset. The girls in the office would ask him for autographs and he would spend time chatting to anybody and everybody in the place. He would just hang around talking until he was due to go and consult with the architects about the design. They made a model of the new studio out of stiff card and you could lift of the roof and look inside to the details. He was in his VW Golf GTI waiting to turn onto the main road the day I talked to him about this video, he didn't bother moving until we had concluded the converstaion and then he said goodbye and we went our seperate ways. Nice guy. I knew the Ardmans studio in Bristol and watched them doing the Wallace and Gromit movie, an intensive, time consuming art. They did this video.
@@dozer30 yes it was, I went to their studio in Bristol and I was shown around by a woman Nick Park had asked to give me a tour, I only went to pick up a PA for a gig I was doing in some field in Somerset.
"Three Little Pigs" by Green Jelly
It's an out there video.
David Clark yes!
Hell yeah! Green Jello sucks! Electric Harley House of Love!
They'll always be Green Jello to me!!!
@@brettmarlar4154 Green Jello sucks! Hey! Wolf face! I'm your worst nightmare.
@@mikeschroeder8594 Granted, they're no Scatterbrain, but they had their moment. I only said that because they were forced to change the name of the band after the lawsuit, which I found to be stupid.
Shout out to Tony Levin. His bass part on this song is legendary.
All of his bass, cello and Stick parts are legendary.
The bald man Jams.
The bass has a very walking groove under the melody
Tony Levin is great. This is a monster funk groove!
👌🏻
Saw him with yes
This song is beast! It never gets old to me, I was born in ‘89 and have loved this song and video since I was a kid. To me it’s one of those tracks that always picks me up when I’m feeling down.
Same and same. This was one of my favorite videos as a kid
The 80s was a truly magical decade for rock/pop music and music videos
Gabriel's the legendary ex lead singer of Genesis, turned legendary solo artist. Pls react to "Red Rain."
I agree!
don't forget about The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway!
Great story! Thanks for sharing
Thanks. That was great. I remember when this came out. Everyone was talking about it. The video was so groundbreaking.
whispjohn wasn’t this video made by Aardman Animations? I love their stuff.
@@dozer30 yes it was, I went to their studio in Bristol and I was shown around by a woman Nick Park had asked to give me a tour, I only went to pick up a PA for a gig I was doing in some field in Somerset. I saw all the plasticine models and how they created these videos, amazing place and cool people. That was before Wallace and Gromit.
Peter Gabriel was one of a kind. There's 80'x music, then there's Peter Gabriel's music. Can say the same for his videos.
The man can do no wrong, musically.
"I'm guessing this is the 80s, right?"
Aye... this was stop-motion- not CGI.
Every frame was taken as a photo and then it was all put together to make the video.
"In your eyes". Or anything Peter Gabriel has made. My favorite artist.
I was thinking the same thing..
Me too! Especially his Live In Africa "In Your Eyes" with his daughter and Papa Wemba. MUST SEE! I loop it over and over.
The live version from his '86 tour is incredible too... the video's crappy, but the sound is excellent and it's the only one i could find that has the complete performance...
ruclips.net/video/3z_OZOS-upw/видео.html
I love that song 🎵
And your respect for your viewers and your SUPER respect for the music and the performers who are in our history is why you are the most popular reactionary because we know if it's truly good, you will judge it to be worth remembering...
One of Eddie Van Halen's favorite albums ever. He tunes his studio speakers to this song.
Suggest “Games Without Frontiers”....”Shock the Monkey” and “Digging in the Dirt” Then it’ll be time to dive into Genesis and Phil Collins next.
Digging in the Dirt for sure its a really good one...
Peter Gabriel was to Genesis what Roger Waters was to Pink Floyd.
Yeeesssss. I was thinking this since I saw him do Pink Floyd
I'll second" Shock the Monkey".......
Digging in the dirt
Are you kidding Peter Gabriel let loose on MTV, I'm sure they had to keep him restrained. This is such a direct extension of all his stage acts from His past live performances.
Peter Gabriel is a genius. When this song is playing you have no problems.
The 80's were the era of the most creative music videos! So many unique artistic visions!
So true! I don't feel like the 80's gets enough credit for being so innovative
It absolutely tickles me to death watching your reactions to music from my youth. Glad you enjoy it as much as we all did at the time.
lockandloadshari I’m the same.....It’s so funny and nice to see his face and we get to enjoy it all over again...💕
@@kensyskye8965 exactly, I haven't seen this video in years, it was great to see it again and Jamal's reaction just makes it even better
You should give “land of confusion” by genesis a try.
That video came out when I was a little kid and it scared the crap out of me. Lol!
Was just going to say the same thing.
And then of course you have to check out Disturbed's version of the sam song.
@@nightthornkvala94132 ugh no disturbed please
Definitely!!!
100% creative...... that’s Peter Gabriel. He was always pushing the edge. That’s why he’s so great!
Peter Gabriel, First lead singer of Genesis, before Phil Collins took over!
"In Your Eyes", "Big Time", "Red Rain", "Shock The Monkey", "Digging In The Dirt", "Steam"...please do these!
*YOUR PROFILE PICTURE MAKES ME WANT TO SMACK THE DEMON OUT OF YOU.*
*~ HOLY SEE*
"Growing up" , "Darkness" or my all time favorite "Signal to Noise"
Yes please do "Big Time".
Yeah a big yes to all of those, fantastic songs.
Don't forget Biko, Come Talk To Me and Games Without Frontiers.
Peter Gabriel, “In Your Eyes” a must listen!
Absolutely - ruclips.net/video/JJmrWE1J5Hw/видео.html
The ending gives me chills to this day - on the live version.
@@willcooper7345 Paula Cole is awesome on "Secret World Live". When she sings on "Don't Give Up", it always gives me chills.
Hold's her boom box up
Gabriel Ramos the perfect love song, Peter Gabriel is pure genius
There was a band called Genesis, Peter Gabriel was the lead singer and Phil Collins was the drummer. Peter left for a solo career and Phil said I can play drums and sing! Both did very well!!
Yeah it’s true , when this first cane out I listen to this at work 400 trillion times a day when this first came out. Timeless
Tom Petty “don’t come around here no more”
Another very creative/ visual video
Tipper Gore (Al Gore’s wife) tried to have it banned and it was one of the songs/videos that started the “parents beware” labels
You should check out Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" live from the Secret World tour... There are some amazing musicians featured in the concert.
The ending gives me chills and is AMAZING
Mt favorite from "Secret World Live" is "Steam" with the introduction. I have SWL in VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray.
I went to the Atlanta secret world show. It wasn't an original tour date. The show was added to the tour after an overwhelming letter writing campaign demanding an atlanta show. That arena was electric that night. Top 5 live music experiences for me.
Ben Boyer I’ve just posted the very same thing!! I absolutely love it!! Goosebumps every time ❤️
@@johnbindert7046 "Steam" is great... My dad had the Secret World albums that we would listen to on long car trips and my favorites were always "In Your Eyes" and "Shaking the Tree", but every song on there is a masterpiece... Mostly we shared a love for "Solsbury Hill" and "Come Talk To Me" with those beautiful bagpipes!
I’ve seen Peter Gabriel twice and unbelievable live performers!! This was revolutionary video at the time and was on mtv like 10 times a day!!
The 80s never disappoint
I'm surprised you never talked about what Gabriel was actually talking about in the song. All the symbolism. S-E-X
He is talking about the lack of it. He says “if” you bring your blue skys back....I kicked the habit.....if you show for me I will chauffeur you. She don’t like him no more, and it don’t seem like she wants him back despite his little song. He musta done sumthin baaaaaaaaaaaddd.....
Yeah it was definitely an ode to his own well...Peter I guess! lol
That’s ‘cuz it’s pretty standard come-on stuff. Just there to give the sounds and style something to hang on.
In 1986!! I remember it so well because when I went into labor with my daughter, and I was put in a hospital room, my husband asked me what I wanted on the TV. "MTV!!!" was my answer to get my mind somplace else. And my daughter was born, as I watched "Sledgehammer". The 70's and 80's were life!
And now , Grace Jones Slave to the Rhythm. Another 80' Work of Art.
This man is an absolute genius who has been at it for more than 50 years.
"In Your Eyes"....Peter Gabriel. Wonderful song.
OH JAMAL !!!!!! TOU SIMPLY MUST DO A REACTION TO "IN YOUR EYES "....The one that hes on a circular stage with many musicians from all over....IT IS FABULOUS, DEEP, MYSTICAL AND ABOUT LOVE!!!!!!
Digging in the Dirt & Solsbury Hill.
The Lamb Lies down on Broadway....the. whole. album.
Shaking the Trees!
I Art Laughing The live version is Salisbury Hill is electric!!!!
Wow "Land Of Confusion" is STILL just as relevant today, I was hoping the message got through, but who knows! The official video is also a must see.
YES!
Double yes!
Were Americans aware of Spitting Image?
@@rhyswilliams1998 Somewhat. In addition to the Land of Confusion video, there was a Spitting Image television special which featured numerous U.S. politicians and celebrities.
Richard Moss cheers! I was young when it was on in UK so found it funny but didn’t really have much of a concept of life outside the UK.
Peter Gabriel is a phenomenal story teller.
He gain fame in the 70's and 80s.
Enjoy and onto the next musical adventure
No computers here, just creativity and a lot of hard work. The eighties, my years, the best decade in the history of music.
For those of us who grew up with 80's Music all I can say is that we were blessed !
"Runnin' Down a Dream" by the late great Tom Petty is another good song with a similarly quirky video, in its own way, for it. He also does an Alice in Wonderland inspired video for his song "Don't Come Around Here No More."
That 'Alice in Wonderland' video was amazing. I remember when it was on MTV and would just sit and stare when it came on.
Iconic videos? "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer, followed up by "Simply Irresistable."
David Mercury Great songs. Simply Irresistible is amazing!
And after he does addicted to love he needs to do addicted to spuds!!
I loved the 80’s best music ever! Nothing like it today! Im 57 & have 3 children, I always played the 80’s music in the car or at home & they loved it! I always played all types of music & the kids really grew up appreciating all types of music! They r now 21, 18 & 17!
To this day when i have the radio on w them & to hear them sing & know all the words to the songs thrills my heart to know end!! 😄👍❤️
We love the 80’s ! I love your videos sooo much, love seeing your reactions to all this music I grew up on! Keep them coming, your Awesome! 😎🥰
“In Your Eyes” is a Smasher. In fact the whole So album.
The great thing about these videos from the 80's is that the music video was still in its infancy as an art form and it was literally "anything goes" and creativity was through the roof. So many memorable videos from that era!
As a teenager at the time I was fascinated with videos and how well they worked with the song. Some, like this one, fit the music so perfectly that 30-some years down the road you can't hear the song without the video playing in your head.
This is truly a timeless classic.
This video was so groundbreaking for its time! Everyone was talking about it.
This video won *9* MTV Video Music Awards, an all-time record!
I showed my 1 year old son this film clip 3 years ago. He is now a mad Peter Gabriel fan. How could he not be?! Such a voice and artist. These songs saw me through my childhood! Love, love, love.
Robert Palmer "Simply Irresistible " he was the gentleman of Rock and roll. Do it do it do it :))))
Yes, the 80s WERE incredible!
Robert Palmer: Addicted to Love
Loooove that song
love the video more :)
Also, Simply Irresistible, by Robert Palmer
Love it
Plus, "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On"
I'm so blessed and thankful I grew up in this generation of music. This song clip is iconic. I was 16 when this came out and remember bopping to it.😍✨💜This era of music will always have a special place in my heart.🙏🏾
He was great in Genesis, and great as a solo artist.
