In truth, one of my least favorite YES tracks. I was big with their progressive 1970s works. Second concert I ever saw was on their "Tourmato" tour (Led Zep was 1st). When this came out around 1984 it seemed more of a pop track or at least basically structured in contrast to their previous works. Kind of a cool sound, but more commercial than I was used to. being more pop-styled, naturally it was more popular with the masses. I'm more of a "Perpetual Change", "Awaken" or "Gates Of Delirium" kind of YES fan. ruclips.net/video/59feSG8U5EQ/видео.html
Whatever is up, let the music play! Peace to all!

    Wow.
As a older Black man...Im amazed. Its good to see a brother into this music.
In the 70s and 80s, I got chastized and ostracized in my hood for listening to Yes, ELP and Zappa and other Prog/Fusion music. Brothers hated the philosophy in it, and Sistas complained you cant dance to it, because they kept changing the beat.
But I kept listening. Still listening. Great video.

Don't get me wrong we loved our 70's and 80's funk and R&B...but we hard rockers as well.

      @NoName-fx9zi 4 года назад +88

Trevor Horn (former bassist and singer for The Buggles: Video Killed The Radio Star) was the producer and largely responsible for the way this song turned out. He had to do a lot of arguing and convincing of the musicians involved to use samples, programming, tight drum sound and a more "tech" approach. The guitar solo was recorded, then cut into samples, then the samples were patched together over the solo track. Horn was a genius.

Prince - Kiss, Aerosmith/Run DMC-Walk this way, Madonna's True Blue album, Jody Watley, Whitney Houston's second album debut at No.1, Janet Jackson- what have you done for me lately/when I think of you both hits , Tina Turner released her second album th follow up to her huge comeback album, an unknown school teacher named Anita Baker released her first hit, etc. I think you have it backwards, there were lots of one hit wonders from '85 on but there were numerous songs that were hits just in 86 alone. 🎵 Owner of a Lonely Heart - Lyrics❤
    Move yourself
    You always live your life
    Never thinking of the future
    Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser
    See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you - and that's the only way
    Shake - shake yourself
    You're every move you make
    So the story goes
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Much better than a
    Owner of a broken heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
Say - you don't want to chance it
    You've been hurt so before
    Watch it now
    The eagle in the sky
How he dancin' one and only
    You - lose yourself
    No not for pity's sake
There's no real reason to be lonely
    Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
You've got to want to succeed
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Much better than - a
    Owner of a broken heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    After my own indecision
    They confused me so
    Owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all
In the end you've got to go
    Look before you leap
    Owner of a lonely heart
And don't you hesitate at all - no no
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Much better than - a
    Owner of a broken heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
    (repeat)
    Owner of a lonely heart
    Sooner or later each conclusion
    Will decide the lonely heart
    Owner of a lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start
    Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all
Don't deceive your free will at all
    Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all
    Just receive it

This is the first album Trevor Rabin did with Yes. He is a musical genius. Aside from his rock career and music writing. Those guitar tones were new for the time, no one else was doing that. He also wrote the musical scores for dozens of movies, including "Armageddon", "Bad Boys II", "National Treasure", "Gone in 60 Seconds", and many others. He brought new life to Yes. The love they lyric this song has. "You got to want to suceed" is such a great line. A owner with a lonely heart has never had love but has the chance to love and find someone while someone with a broken heart had love for a fleating moment but now has no love and is lonely without one. Has a great message. "Dont deceive your free will at all" is also a great line.

This was a great reaction. Thank you for reminding me how great this song was after not having heard it for a couple of decades.
Jamel--just want to tell you that your personal motto got me through this entire election season. I was getting stress to the point that it was physically painful between COVID-19 keeping everyone socially isolated and the twin hate-filled echo chambers that most of my friends were inhabiting on social media (I have large numbers of friends in both major political parties).
When I would remind myself to be humble, be kind, and just be a good human, spreading peace, joy, and love, it was the only time I could decompress and it became something of a mantra to me. Thank you for being a little beacon of sanity in the social media landscape, sir. The work you do on this channel is far more important than you will ever know.
