I have never seen a reaction channel where the person almost always "gets" the song on the first listen! Not just someone listening and overacting, but someone who truly listens to all the facets and seems to truly appreciate damn near everything. True, his dad died in WWII and his fathers father (Rogers grandfather) died in WWI. I think it's pretty obvious why Roger is so anti-war. If you get the chance to see the DVD of RW's production of The Wall he talks about both of their deaths with his own children and visits their gravesides, pretty impactful.
When I was a kid and I discovered Pink Floyd, it saved my life. Suffering from depression most of my life, and having a hard abusive childhood left me full of rage and hurt. I listened to the wall almost every night of high school, it would take me away and allow me to understand deeper nature of what was occurring in my life. I like experiencing these songs with you it takes me back.

Saw Roger Waters in...'06? The whole show was amazing but this song in particular was the high point for me. Katie Kissoon performed Mother's (Gilmour’s) parts. I cried.

But if you listen to Kendrick Lamar for example and his To Pimp A Butterfly you'll see Pink Floyd and him have similar ideas regarding social issues. Kid Cudi probably is the most Pink Floydish of them all. Even his album covers take a look at them and you'll be like "ok I see." Blues and rap aren't that far off historically.

Pink Floyd is the TRUTH: This music is in my humble opinion at another level above all the other great bands. Think of Patrick Mahomes and then all the rest at another level. Simply speaking this music is for the soul. I love all their music and it will always be played in my home. Peace.
"The Wall" has got to be my all-time favorite album. My wife thinks it's creepy, but I absolutely love it. Powerful isn't nearly strong enough of a word to describe it. I still get emotional hearing it and I've probably listened to it a thousand times.
There has never been a band that wrote more lyrically perfect songs than PF. Their singing is brilliant, their musicianship is brilliant but their song writing is just on another level. Just to be clear, I love both the Roger Waters and the David Gilmour eras of Floyd. Both are equally brilliant in their own unique way.
its a completely different experience when you listen to any of their albums from start to finish and on a format that doesn't have pauses in-between the songs... Put on some headphones and you wont open your eyes for the next hour or so!

This album is basically about Roger Waters, I can't really say more about it. Definitely watch the movie. I actually had the pleasure of working for Roger Waters about a decade ago. It really was unbelievable,being that pink floyd is my favorite group it really was a stroke of luck. 99.9% of people never get to meet the artist they admire the most, I was truly blessed that day and really enjoyed working for him. DUDE. I’ve been listening to this song for almost 30 years and I never realized what the last line meant. “Mother did it need to be so high?” is referring to the wall. It seems so obvious now, but I always thought it was referring to getting high cause Pink is so messed up throughout the whole movie “The Wall”. I was overthinking it. THANK YOU for clarifying!

My grandma passed a few months before I was born. My father and uncle would sing this to her (it was her favorite song) as she was on her deathbed. This song has a deep and special meaning to my family. Always will.
Every mother - every parent - does the best they know how. As a parent now this song sounds so different to me than it did as a teenager. I feel for the mother who has less choice in how she raises her child than I ever realized. And I know I can only raise my child based on how I learned. It’s both scary and freeing in some way. The incredible thing about this song, and the whole album, is that it captures both the sad reality of why others with power act a certain way, and also the horrible effect it has on those impacted. It’s not a simple one sided story. Maybe this is why it resonated with so many people and lasted as a masterpiece in ways the current dance anthems never will.
This is my mother. I played this for her in 1980 and she didn't see the similarities lol. But she's 82 now and I'm blessed to have her. And cursed. I hope she makes it to 100

There is not a band that has ever existed that will take you on the emotional ride that Pink Floyd can do. I've heard all their albums dozens of times and when you play the whole thing from beginning to end, as you should, it truly is a journey. Wow! Not only am I impressed that you did this song but that you also understand the meaning and symbolism. I was too young to go to concerts when this originally came out but I've seen Roger Waters do The Wall twice and it was beyond belief how amazing it was! I cried during Mother. Pink Floyd just ooze's Talent ! I was 14 years old when The Wall came out, I had never heard of Pink Floyd at that time, I was into KISS at that age. Then my late Mother, R.I.P. bought me the Album The Wall for Christmas. And the rest is History, I have been a Huge Fan of Pink Floyd ever since. I have seen them twice in Concert, how many people can say that ? I may be old, but I got to see all the Cool Bands back in the day !!
My most memorable time with this song was with my boys at age ~5 & 6. While making spaghetti sauce, one of my sons turned and said "he sure talks to his mom a lot". 😅

You need to listen to the whole album in order for it to really make sense. Members of Pink Floyd were all affected by their lives in post WWII England. The songs reflect a lot of that trauma.

My husband saw a Roger Waters’ entire performance of “The Wall” in concert at the Berlin Wall not long after it was torn down. He said it was a once in a lifetime experience. I was fortunate to see the group Pink Floyd in concert before they broke up so we both enjoyed their performances
This song strikes a chord in me. I won't get into it, but there's a lot in these lyrics that I identify with. Regarding Pink (the protagonist of the album), Mother's lasting influence on him can be found in "Nobody Home", also from The Wall. Love the channel, Jamel. Keep 'em comin'. 🙂
British baby boomers (Born right after the war) describe their parents just that way. Overprotective but inaccessible. That war was very traumatic for that generation and it effected their parenting. Probably effected everything they did after that war.
Roger Waters had a very diffiicult, painful relationship with his mother. His father died when he was young & she became so overprotective of him he felt suffocated. What this song shows is how complex love is, and how we are shaped by our parents in many different ways
His father died in WWII in a very well documented and important battle in Italy, Battle of Anzio. This entire album is attributed to WWII and the aftermath (and heavily on the Cold war) and his psyche from his entire upbringing.
Unfortunately, people don't understand that the concept of the overprotective mother doesn't only apply to mothers. Especially relevant these days is that this concept applies to governments as well, in their attitude towards people. And it has the same devastating consequences.
True story. When I was like 18 or 19; I decided to play this song for my mom, as to get her restroom to it. She sat in her chair; reading the lyrics, and listening quietly. When the song was over; she handed me back the lyrics, and only said "Yes". That's it; just yes. Nothing more.

I went to a Roger Waters concert a few years back where he did the entire album The Wall, from start to finish. Throughout the concert they had people building a wall around the band. Until at the very end they were completely behind a wall. If you ever get the opportunity to see Roger Waters I would highly suggest it. Thanks for playing this song... keep up the good work
I attended this concert as well and I was amazed at the range in ages of the audience I saw great grandparents and children it was an amazing experience. I was blessed to take my own son to experience this legendary album.

But if you listen to Kendrick Lamar for example and his To Pimp A Butterfly you'll see Pink Floyd and him have similar ideas regarding social issues. Kid Cudi probably is the most Pink Floydish of them all. Even his album covers take a look at them and you'll be like "ok I see." Blues and rap aren't that far off historically.

"The Wall" has got to be my all-time favorite album. My wife thinks it's creepy, but I absolutely love it. Powerful isn't nearly strong enough of a word to describe it. I still get emotional hearing it and I've probably listened to it a thousand times.
It's been my all time favorite since the first time I really sat down and listened to it. Just an amazing piece of art.

The Wall is the greatest Album of all time in my book and was a big influence for me in my 20's. I believe it is the genius of Roger Waters.
I honestly don’t find it creepy i just find it depressing but that’s not a bad thing at all.
There has never been a band that wrote more lyrically perfect songs than PF. Their singing is brilliant, their musicianship is brilliant but their song writing is just on another level. Just to be clear, I love both the Roger Waters and the David Gilmour eras of Floyd. Both are equally brilliant in their own unique way.

its a completely different experience when you listen to any of their albums from start to finish and on a format that doesn't have pauses in-between the songs... Put on some headphones and you wont open your eyes for the next hour or so!

Omg I still get choked up when I hear this song. I highly recommend watching the movie The Wall. It's a brilliant movie and album. This album is basically about Roger Waters, I can't really say more about it. Definitely watch the movie. I actually had the pleasure of working for Roger Waters about a decade ago. It really was unbelievable,being that pink floyd is my favorite group it really was a stroke of luck. 99.9% of people never get to meet the artist they admire the most, I was truly blessed that day and really enjoyed working for him. Great reaction, great song, and have a great day.

His first marriage is depicted fairly well in the movie, the sequence during comfortably numb depicts a time before a show where he needed to be medicated to perform, the fascist bit is up for interpretation, if I had to pick an album about syd it would be Wish you where here. I may be wrong if so my bad. It's all brilliant, the whole catalog.
DUDE. I’ve been listening to this song for almost 30 years and I never realized what the last line meant. “Mother did it need to be so high?” is referring to the wall. It seems so obvious now, but I always thought it was referring to getting high cause Pink is so messed up throughout the whole movie “The Wall”. I was overthinking it. THANK YOU for clarifying!

My grandma passed a few months before I was born. My father and uncle would sing this to her (it was her favorite song) as she was on her deathbed. This song has a deep and special meaning to my family. Always will.
Being the mother of a little boy, this song makes me sob.
Every mother - every parent - does the best they know how. As a parent now this song sounds so different to me than it did as a teenager. I feel for the mother who has less choice in how she raises her child than I ever realized. And I know I can only raise my child based on how I learned. It’s both scary and freeing in some way.
The incredible thing about this song, and the whole album, is that it captures both the sad reality of why others with power act a certain way, and also the horrible effect it has on those impacted.
It’s not a simple one sided story. Maybe this is why it resonated with so many people and lasted as a masterpiece in ways the current dance anthems never will.
Make sure that he feels loved but don't smother him. The boy needs to live in order to find himself.

Gilmore’s guitar playing on here is spine tingling. As far as music/lyrics speaking to the soul, this song goes deep....the visuals on this song (from the movie)are powerful as well.

There is not a band that has ever existed that will take you on the emotional ride that Pink Floyd can do. I've heard all their albums dozens of times and when you play the whole thing from beginning to end, as you should, it truly is a journey. I still get chills and misty eyed when some of their songs just hit right. Love you man, keep doing your thing.

If you have the opportunity, I'd recommend listening to the whole "The Wall" record from start to finish w/ headphones on. It's a very heavy story. The movie does a solid job of interpreting it.

Wow! Not only am I impressed that you did this song but that you also understand the meaning and symbolism. This is great song and can stand alone but is so much better when taken in context with the rest of the album. I was too young to go to concerts when this originally came out but I've seen Roger Waters do The Wall twice and it was beyond belief how amazing it was! I cried during Mother. Not because I have mommy issues or anything 😁, but because I couldn't believe I was finally experiencing it live. Such a beautiful song!

Pink Floyd just ooze's Talent ! I was 14 years old when The Wall came out, I had never heard of Pink Floyd at that time, I was into KISS at that age. Then my late Mother, R.I.P. bought me the Album The Wall for Christmas. And the rest is History, I have been a Huge Fan of Pink Floyd ever since. I have seen them twice in Concert, how many people can say that ? I may be old, but I got to see all the Cool Bands back in the day !!

You need to listen to the whole album in order for it to really make sense. Members of Pink Floyd were all affected by their lives in post WWII England. The songs reflect a lot of that trauma.

During The Wall Live, when Roger sing that, on the wall behind him compare the phrase "no fuckin way" and its translation (depend by the country, in Italy the phrase was "col cazzo").
My husband saw a Roger Waters’ entire performance of “The Wall” in concert at the Berlin Wall not long after it was torn down. He said it was a once in a lifetime experience. I was fortunate to see the group Pink Floyd in concert before they broke up so we both enjoyed their performances

Regarding Pink (the protagonist of the album), Mother's lasting influence on him can be found in "Nobody Home", also from The Wall.

It's a paradox; a parent who is overprotective, but at the same time is emotionally inaccessible.

British baby boomers (Born right after the war) describe their parents just that way. Overprotective but inaccessible. That war was very traumatic for that generation and it effected their parenting. Probably effected everything they did after that war.
Roger Waters had a very diffiicult, painful relationship with his mother. His father died when he was young & she became so overprotective of him he felt suffocated. What this song shows is how complex love is, and how we are shaped by our parents in many different ways
His father died in WWII in a very well documented and important battle in Italy, Battle of Anzio.
This entire album is attributed to WWII and the aftermath (and heavily on the Cold war) and his psyche from his entire upbringing.
Unfortunately, people don't understand that the concept of the overprotective mother doesn't only apply to mothers. Especially relevant these days is that this concept applies to governments as well, in their attitude towards people. And it has the same devastating consequences.
So, she was a "Smother", instead of a mother....

True story. When I was like 18 or 19; I decided to play this song for my mom, as to get her restroom to it. She sat in her chair; reading the lyrics, and listening quietly. When the song was over; she handed me back the lyrics, and only said "Yes".

I went to a Roger Waters concert a few years back where he did the entire album The Wall, from start to finish. Throughout the concert they had people building a wall around the band. Until at the very end they were completely behind a wall. If you ever get the opportunity to see Roger Waters I would highly suggest it. Thanks for playing this song... keep up the good work
I attended this concert as well and I was amazed at the range in ages of the audience I saw great grandparents and children it was an amazing experience. I was blessed to take my own son to experience this legendary album.
