I don't think you really caught on to the lyrics, Mugs. The album, and later the movie were about a boy who grew up during WWII and became a rock star. His father was killed in the war and was raised by his over-bearing, over-protective mother. She ultimately helped him to build a psychological WALL around himself and it did great harm in his life. The beginning of the song comes from the boy where he is asking his mother about all kinds of things that worry him. Like... "Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb? (England was mercilessly bombed during the war) or Mother do you think they'll put me in the firing line? (Will they make me go to war too?) "Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true (WTF?) Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you (not a good idea, mom!) Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing (at some point mama needs to let go) SHE WON'T LET YOU FLY but she might let you sing." (we all have to fly at some point or we'll die) Hard to really catch any Floyd song on the first, second, or tenth listen to - especially this album. But great reaction and the live version was a treat as well. Peace.
A teacher once told me: “A text out of context is just a pretext”. You are perfectly right. Understanding the context gives a text its real meaning. With Pink Floyd especially with The Wall and Animals, it's always necessary to know the context.
"maybe they shouldve played this when Jenny was going to jump off the balcoy in Forest Gump" is the most interesting description of Pink Floyd in a good while.
Mother is a chapter in the book called The Wall. That's what is funky about The Wall, you can pick a tune but you have to know where it falls in the book to get the full meaning. 44 yrs of listening to it. I saw the concert in 1980 at Nassau.
It's such a joy as a life long fan to watch people take in Floyd's beauty and brilliance and epic musical genius. To see the joy and expression on their faces....such a joy
Floyd’s lyrics are nothing but bars. Great to see people not from this generation are into this genre get Floyd. They are not a band, they are an emotional experience. David Gilmour can put more soul into one note on the guitar than most guitarists can’t do in an entire song.
Oh Man. This track is so great. When that first main beat drops after all the build up about a minute and a half into it, I feel it in my soul every time. "Ooohh Babe." "Ooohh Baby." "Of course Momma's gonna help build a wall." 🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶 So dope. Thanks for the reaction, broseph.
Belated "Bless You"! He is building a "Wall" around himself, with his "Mother's" help! That's why he asked his Mother did it need to be so high? Roger Waters, normally the bass player, sings the child's part, while David Gilmour sings the Mother's part in the song. he also plays the amazing guitar solos! I can remember listening to this complete album many times thru from start to finish! A true masterpiece!!!
I was lucky enough to see them in 89 in Cleveland when I was 19yrs old. The BEST show ever! Floyd was a big part of my youth along with a few other groups Mugs... thanks for the LIVE reaction as it brought back memories! peace
"Mother did it need to be so high". He's referring to her wall she made around him. This whole album is about walls, walls we build, walls we make in our minds (the matrix). I know mothers like this and they are mothers! They do more harm than good.
God damn bro! You got a new sub today! I absolutely love seeing your reaction to all the music i cherished growing up! You got me in the feels bro. Now if anybody needs me, I'll be binging these vids. ✌️
Zeppelin was a song band, Pink Floyd was an album band. While you are someone doing reactions song by song I highly suggest that at some point you give The Wall a listen from start to finish. It is a full on rock opera.
This was the fractured Floyd :( Rodger Waters and David Gilmore broke our hearts back in the day... I'm sure people will hate but you know I'm right ... They weren't the same after the break up :( :(
Welcome to David Gilmore rabbit hole. The man makes you feel the emotion he puts into making love to those strings, and his song lyrics catalog. He's now forever stuck in your brain
Looks like you're a little hooked on Pink Floyd, my friend. That is nothing but good. They are a lifelong obsession for me. Hopefully, they will become the same for you. Strap yourself in, the ride will get a little bumpy, but it's always worth it.
This album (and DSotM) were the sound tracks of my teenage years. But you really can't go wrong with any song you pick. I recommend Echoes off the Meddle album, it's my all time favorite Floyd song. I also recommend High Hopes, specifically the Live in G'Dansk concert version. That version has an extra solo at the end. No matter how many times I've heard it, I can't get through it without crying.
Pink Floyd man I was wondering if anyone was going to drop this live version which is better, I know exactly where you are coming from mama would tear my but up. Enjoyed the reaction. Be cool stay safe.
Gilmore’s extended solo but his vocals were sloppy, you could sense his tension in this period of the Waters /Gilmore friendship ending power struggle.
You need to check out the entire Movie, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" to get the entire concept of the story. In 2019 I went to watch the Lazer Show at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Showroom and they didn't play this. We were so bummed. 😭 Happy belated 4/20😁😎
lol me and my siblings still make fun of my mom and her elastic arm. When we were on a road trip and we were misbehaving in the back seat, she would slap us across the cheek from the front seat without losing control of the car. If she missed one or two of us, she would slam the breaks so we all flew forward and found ourselves within reach or the elastic arm. lollol God be merciful if you got jolted and landed in the front seat with her. Not only do you get your ass whopped, you have to spend the next 6 hours up front sitting shotgun with the seat belt on staring at the road while your brothers and sisters were in the back having all the fun. Seatbelts back then were used more for punishment than safety. You can't just send a kid to their room on a road trip. You gotta beat them till they cry and strap them in right next to you. lololol Moms. Funny creatures.
The next brick in Pink's wall is that of a mother who tries to compensate for the absence of the father by smothering her child with "love" and protectiveness. Quote from Roger Waters: "If you can level one accusation at mothers it is that they tend to protect their children too much. Too much and for too long. That's all. This isn't a portrait of my mother, although some of the , you know, one or two of the things in there apply to her as well as to I'm sure lots of other people's mothers.
Mugnify Reacts Pink Floyd is the tip of the tops. 40 years ago, when i was 9, i heard Welcome to the Machine and it totally changed my outlook and perspective on everything in life. I understood more than most kids my age, and totally undestood the mssg and sybomlism. I wish Tool would remake it so badly!!! Welcome to the Machine is still,to this day, the greatest piece of music ever written, orchestrated or performed anywhere at any time, imo. Definitely check it out and be Welcomed
Pink Floyd in TOOL or both to phenomenal rabbit holes to dive down. Gotta be in my top three or four bands of all time. Don’t ask you the other ones are lol great review.
Mother didn't need to be so high? He's talking about the metaphorical wall being too high. In other words mother did you need to be so overprotective keeping me from growing up by making my own mistakes!
Back in the day we would put on this album and "roll one up" if ya know what I mean 😂 and literally just kick back and chill 😉 one of my favorites of Pink Floyd next to Comfortably Numb ❤
Mother-son enmeshment. Not in a sexual way. These are how “Mama’s Boys” are made. Call me a brain-dead lunatic that’s into mentally torturing myself, but my husband turned out to be one. Dear “awful Mama” is 90, sick but ain’t going anywhere soon. It’s a heartbreaking song. And a song that causes me a lot of anger. BTW, “The Wall” is a movie. The first movie I went to when I started to date my husband-to-be. 1981. How ironic.
The bricks in the Wall are all the things that stop us from breaking thru and moving forward, overcoming every obstacle and living without fear, worry or anxiety at all about anything. We break thru by the power of God's Holy Word and the Holy Spirit, who raised Christ from death. Life holds us back. No one succeeds intil they break thru by faith, believing they can/will
Roger Waters' father was killed in WWII as were many British fathers then. Imagine how many homes where mother became the head. Having lost their husbands, it is not hard to understand them being over-protective of their children.
Look into laughing Sid barret ( I think that’s how spell it) story mugs he was an original member , I believe he went mad off lsd, I may be wrong I’m only 41 😂
I've listened to many reactions from young people about this song, and so far everyone seems to think that this song is about how cool mother is. I think that if they really listen to the song in the context of the album, they'll find that mother is a major contributor to this mans mental illness! In other words a mother who is way too overbearing, is not healthy for her sons healthy mental development. Mothers don't need to know everything about their sons life. It's just not healthy! Especially if she's high!
Dont be fooled by the nay sayers......Roger Waters wrote The Wall album about his own life and this song about the relationship he had with his own mother . A lot of the dark lyrics in PF's songs come from Rogers early life and it's lasting affect. The album is brilliant but hard to appreciate until you understand it. The movie is a disaster until you know the story and its origin.......then it to becomes brilliant.
Mama did it need to be so hight?... He's talking about the wall she built...around him..
One of my favorite songs from Floyd

Excellent discription. ✌

One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs.
Instantly subscribed when you said "facts".. yes... yes they are my man. Yes they are.. indeed.
"Mother did it need to be so high?".he's referring to the wall that she's helped him to build to keep other people out.

Where they still building the "Wall" back then? I would have loved seeing the "Wall" be built brick by brick as the show progressed.
Oh yeah, all in all it was another brick in the wall. Built it up and tore it down at the end.@@cardiac19

Pink Floyd "Echoes" (Part 1)
Live at Pompeii 1972
No Audience, No Lights, No Pyrotechnics just Gods playing to the Gods
Makes me want to learn guitar 🎸
Same, it's because of Floyd I play guitar. Gilmour is the most soulful player ever.
I was lucky enough to see them in 89 in Cleveland when I was 19yrs old. The BEST show ever!
Floyd was a big part of my youth along with a few other groups
Mugs... thanks for the LIVE reaction as it brought back memories!
peace
1991 at the Horse Shoe in Columbus. Over 100 000
This is off the album 'The Wall', and Mother will help build the wall, Pink is asking if it, the wall, needed to be so high.
I've got to see them twice in the 90s amazing concerts never fail❤
"Mother did it need to be so high". He's referring to her wall she made around him. This whole album is about walls, walls we build, walls we make in our minds (the matrix). I know mothers like this and they are mothers! They do more harm than good.
This version is fantastic! Thanks for the review.
"Echoes" from Pompeii Live
God damn bro! You got a new sub today! I absolutely love seeing your reaction to all the music i cherished growing up! You got me in the feels bro. Now if anybody needs me, I'll be binging these vids. ✌️
Seen them in 1989. Incredible performance from start to finish. Top tier sound and visuals.

Mexico mom was there for me❤
Why do I always think of Marie Barone, when I hear this song?
Pink Floyd man I was wondering if anyone was going to drop this live version which is better, I know exactly where you are coming from mama would tear my but up. Enjoyed the reaction. Be cool stay safe.
Gilmore’s extended solo but his vocals were sloppy, you could sense his tension in this period of the Waters /Gilmore friendship ending power struggle.

Talking about why did the mother build the wall so high.

THE WALL! 😊WHY DID IT HAFTA BE SO HIGH, JUST ANOTHERRR FLOYD CONCEPT ALBUM MUG! 💯😊 STAY WELL
Nice review. Pink Floyd is really great aren’t they?
fact!! ^^
Comfortably numb next please mugs
David Gilmour can make a guitar sing.
Facts!
Pink Floyd in TOOL or both to phenomenal rabbit holes to dive down. Gotta be in my top three or four bands of all time. Don’t ask you the other ones are lol great review.
❤
An amazing show from them is delicate sounds of thunder, live at earls court, the laser show was next level for the time
This is a video of a Roger Water's concert. Not Pink Floyd. Still very good as Roger wrote the words and concept.
That’s David singing and playing, though 🤔 Looked it up - it’s from 1980.
Always listen to studio version first. That should be a reaction rule, IMHO.
Mother didn't need to be so high? He's talking about the metaphorical wall being too high. In other words mother did you need to be so overprotective keeping me from growing up by making my own mistakes!

Just a little pin prick , that’ll get you going for the show…..
Mother-son enmeshment. Not in a sexual way. These are how “Mama’s Boys” are made. Call me a brain-dead lunatic that’s into mentally torturing myself, but my husband turned out to be one. No way you understand the song without hearing it in context…in flow. The Wall is a metaphorical isolation…Mother…why’d it need to be so high?
Roger Waters' father was killed in WWII as were many British fathers then. Imagine how many homes where mother became the head. Having lost their husbands, it is not hard to understand them being over-protective of their children.

Pretty sure this song is all about how his mother screwed him up and caused him to build huge walls around himself.
A lot of this song will be missed by kids who did not grow up expecting to be nuked each day by the Soviets. This is an anthem of the Cold War.
Pink Floyd makes magic not music.✌🏻
💯Couldn't have said it better.
This is from the rock opera " The Wall" in which the lead character has an overbearing mother.
Watch the movie if really want to understand.
Absolutely 💯
👍👍💯💯
💯 do the whole movie mugs
Love Roger Waters❤
Your momma smacked you back into last month 😂😂😂 i remeber getting one of those 😂

The mother in this was a sick, lonely woman who wanted her boy to never grow up and experience life.
Kinda had to be around in the 80s to really understand the Cold War tension.
Listen to Doge gtom their Animals album. One of their best
Dogs
If you don't know how to kill a song, watch that reaction video!!
THATS A TERRIBLE VERSION OF IT!! Some floyd live is good but listen to the original studio version so much better
Eww, and they never actually got your butt. Always got the backs of your legs!! Good times, lol.
You feels your love pump!
The mothers are the same, all around the world😂Especially, with their sons🤭🌹
