What pisses me off about the endless reboots and remakes is that there ARE people out there with original ideas, but all the funding goes to braindead, unoriginal schlock to sell tickets based on nostalgia.
it sucks too bc original tv shows get way smaller budgets then a rebooted IP and so they tend to flop, this enforcing this cycle of not giving original ideas a budget
also with streaming being the primary way that people watch shows now, if a series doesn't pull in enough numbers early on, there's a higher chance that it'll get cancelled. so many new ip's don't even get a chance to shine, they just get canned immediately.
“Hannah Montana” is a show that should NEVER EVER get a reboot. I loved that show, it was a big part of my childhood, and the final episode was a satisfying conclusion to the show.
I think people want reboots because they don't want to learn new stories and characters, they want to stay in the same world forever because it seems comforting and familiar... but at that point, just watch the original again, or read or write some fanfiction. I'd rather leave things as they are than reboot something and risk it getting ruined (which is what usually ends up happening).
People don’t want reboots tho that’s the crazy part. The studios purposely push out these reboots cause of the built in audience they will quickly get for temporary time. Thats why fanfiction has became popular cause like it’s tiring. Plus they try so hard to be the original instead of a follow up
I gotta say, that the Blue's Clues reboot (Blue's Clues & You!) is really awesome. The new "Steve" (Josh) just radiates "Hell yeah, Blue's Clues!" energy, Steve and Joe make frequent appearances, and Steve is a producer/writer on the show. I know it's a real kid+kids show, but it's fantastic even for grown-ups
I agree. I think Steve did this one justice. I’d like to think it’s because they didn’t stray too far from the original.. they modernized it but tried to keep the same happy energy. I think the reboots fail when they try to go too original. Best example for me is the wizard’s one, it felt like a different show’s script that had the title changed
I think it’s comparing apples to oranges with Blue’s Clues. It was a show with a host and not a real cast so changing host and restarting is of course easier.
I was just about to comment this!! It’s a fantastic reboot. I love how it appeals to both kids and the millenials/older gen-z who grew up with Blues Clues. I also noticed they redid some of the same episodes which was really cute too!
I think the problem is the creativity that existed in the 90s and 2000s is no longer there. It’s all about quantity not quality. The writing now is just very lazy and it seems like the networks just put anything out and wait to see what sticks and they bank on that nostalgia bringing in the views. I remember when disney was in its prime when I was a kid with hannah montana, suite life, wizards and that’s so raven that even my mom would be watching it them and she was in her 30s. it’ll never be the same I fear
The creativity is there. There are some very talented people that are not getting any attention or funding because corporations are too concerned with money. They prefer to milk everything dry rather than to take a chance on a new idea.
it's just so sad that companies are so focused on making money that they don't even don't want to take chances on things that don't have an existing fanbase. back then using extremely famous people was enough to get viewers. but these days if there isn't an existing fanbase/IP then the companies don't want to take a chance. IT GUTS CREATIVITY!
THANK YOU !!!! WE ARE OVER IT !! Like we didn’t need a random reboot of Zoey 101, Charmed, fuller house, that’s 90’s show, that’s so raven, etc… everything is a cash grab. The only show that in my opinion did amazing as a follow up or reboot was Young Sheldon & Chilling adventures of Sabrina. Idk if people know these huge companies shelve so many pilot episodes and ideas to green light trash
Not a big commenter but I just wanted to say I’m so happy to see you back in your grove, you seem a lot happier and just like your enjoying making content again. I’ve watched you forever and just wanted to express how great it is to see you on my screen again :) Also Lindsay Shaw is making me regret it, but am I the only one who woulda watched that new survival guide they talked about 😭😭 I just wanna shake all of them and be like guys noooo that show was my favorite 💀
I have to agree with you !! As a die hard Halloween fan I’m so done with the Michael Myers series. Fun fact: they are literally using unused scripts from the 90’s and 2000’s mixing them together for the recent new films I’m like ugh come on
Completely different vibe, but Twin Peaks perfected the reboot/continuation season. The original series ended with Laura Palmer telling Agent Cooper that she’ll see him again in 25 years, and roughly 25 years later it came back with one of the most brilliant, unsettling, beautiful continuations in television history. And that 8th episode, “Gotta Light?” is an artistic MASTERPIECE 🙌🏻
yessss, a big reason why The Return worked so well is because David Lynch didn’t just give people what they thought they wanted - we can never go back to the past even if we wanted to, it will never be the same place, and we will never be the same people, ever again.
0:17 I seriously am utterly devoted to tank tops & cardigans. I recently thrifted a silk tank & got a vintage cashmere cardigan online…omg it’s the best feeling thing to wear. I was going to order lightweight budget cashmere but decided to poke around online…so glad I did. Nice thick wool is the best (when it’s a soft wool lol)!
I appreciate your observation that the reboots that do well are those that pass the torch to the next generation. It would be so gutsy if they did do the adult version of a childhood show but the vibe is also really grownup and it somehow doesn't ruin the nostalgia. I think that would be difficult to do, but I could check it out. 😂
Why did I read this as “No, we don’t need a ROBOT”? Okay, maybe it’s time for me to go to sleep. I’ll watch the video in the morning. Love the tank top by the way, really cute🫶🏻
We are basically addicted to nostalgia. With the advent of the internet we don’t have to leave anything behind ever, unlike previous generations. I am totally guilty of this. I love finding online games I used to play as a kid or rewatching movies to death. At the same time! I am sick to death of reboots. They do ruin the show or can’t follow the magic (looking at you Bettlejuice 2) and watching something new is so refreshing! I recently saw The Wild Robot and while I know its based on a kids book series (I haven’t read it) it is still fresh to television screens and really unlike anything I have seem so far. More of this! Please! Nostalgia is lovely but there has to be a cap. We have to make that clear because companies follow the money so as long as there is money to be made while beating the nostalgia horse to death they’ll keep doing it.
The biggest issue with reboots, is that they make the characters you loved, miserable. We wanted Raven and Devon and for Raven to be a fashion designer. So why is she divorced from Devon with no fashion career? That’s what I hate about most reboots. Like, at least with girls meets world, the characters are doing what makes sense. Or Cory and topnaga are
girl did you film for a month straight or something???? 😭 take care of urself BUT i'm LOVINGGG the content thank you for sharing ur opinions - it's been so nice seeing you again ♥️
I think the best reboots are ones where everyone genuinely wants to be there, where the cast really get along and genuinely like each other, and where the show runner is passionate and not just in it for the money. An upcoming one I’m interested in is the Scrubs reboot. It’s too early to say if it will be good, but the cast have never ever not being close, and love spending time together/going on vacations together, so I’m cautiously hoping for the best!
I think “data driven” decision making and AI will make this phenomenon more prevalent and much worse to be honest. These models of decision making rely on the past which immediately discourages innovation and creativity in entertainment. Loved this discussion (and no please Neds Declassified- let it go!)
First, THANK YOU for doing GlowMas. I miss the days when creators would do VlogMas, and I'm loving this spin on that. Second, I couldn't agree more. I love reunion show/behind the scenes type stuff. Also, I loved the Gilmore Girls reboot and I couldn't figure out what was so different between that and some of the other reboots and I think it was the fact that it was only a very limited number of episodes so they didn't have much of a chance to ruin it and also (like you said) that we really got to know the characters more in the original show.
i personally didn't like A year in the life, we found out Rory is a cheater and Luke and Lorelai never got married, we barely see Sookie and I hated how the show looked, i missed the grainy cozy look, it was way too HD for gilmore girls you know?
The only good thing about A Year in the Life was Emily's storyline. Everything else just felt so... dated? Everyone else's storylines felt like they were planned to happen way earlier than they did (like Luke and Lorelai dating for like 10 years without discussing marriage or kids).
@user74027nh i agree but i have my opinions about Emily's story, i think it felt like they were trying to redeem her for being racist and awful to her employees during the show and to me it didn't really work
Right?! That reunion show for Harry Potter I just loved! I loved seeing “Bellatrix” have a laugh with “Harry”. You know what I mean? “Hermoine” giving such a heartfelt hug to “Draco”. It melted my millennial heart 🥹💛
I really feel like a Ned’s Declassified reboot could work if they did something like surviving weird/funny situations in adulthood or a kind of follow up where a kid finds the original survival guide and tries to use it the same way they did in the original and then updates it for a modern kid but the cast has just been so odd it makes me not want to see them win tbh
I don’t live near any of my friends anymore, I moved away a few years ago and when I tell you watching these videos feels like sitting down and talking to them again. Like it feels the same as hanging out with my besties and glowmas is really making my day every day. Thanks Hannah!❤
Very real answer to "why aren't new original stories being made" : Wall Street. Hollywood is in the claws of three societies since the 2010's and slowly but surely they went the "no risk" route for always more money. That's why we only get poorly executed reboots. The investors literally don't want to invest anymore. They're in for profit
5:49 YOU ARE SO RIGHT I watch House of Halliwell for the Charmed podcast and someone on there just made an Army Wives podcast to watch the show. I’m like I don’t think that show was popular as you think hunnies.
I’ll take a reboot over another Marvel movie lol but seriously girrrl you’re glowing in all these videos lately. I can tell you’re doing well, you shine from the inside.
saw someone else say that this tends to work better for animated stories and i agree, it is more feasible and sensible when an animated show gets a reboot. i engage more with animated medium, not sure how many others in this comment section can relate lmao, but it's honestly really nice when a show that didn't have a good adaptation or was cut short gets a second chance to tell its story. even having the possibility of that someday coming true is hopeful. one of my favourite anime of all time, fruits basket, was rebooted in 2019 and adapted the ENTIRETY of its source material. the 2001 version of the anime only went up until a certain point and choose a tone that the manga artist did not like. so the 2019 version was true to her vision and the og fans finally got to see the whole story animated. (i got into the series through the 2019 version so i was lucky to not have to wait that many years haha) that being said, i do also agree that it sucks that execs don't give original ideas a chance. the same situation also applies with animation, newer shows have a harder time gaining a fanbase because they don't get the budget or the marketing and they are often axed after just one season because greedy companies only care about profit. they know that nostalgia sells and sucks people in. that's why disney keeps putting out those shitty live action movies that no one wants, instead of giving the same budget or attention to original and fresh ideas. when those flop, they can throw their hands in the air and say "oh well people just want reboots!" and then serve us more of the same crap.
I think the reason we're seeing so many reboots, and bad ones at that, is because film executives are trying to be as lazy as possible by cashing in on the nostalgia aspect of these beloved shows and hiring the cheapest writers and AI to make a script. It's like having AI write an incoherent essay for you and you changing it slightly.
I just want to add that another reason that Disney reboots are successful is that you can get the nostalgia of seeing the kids characters act out the same or similar storylines to the characters you remember but the characters that you grew up with are sort of in the same age group as you are so their storylines mirror something you can relate to. I think Disney as a whole does a great job of exploring each generations' story which makes it easy for reboots and for multiple generations to watch it. I watched the reboot of the Raven show and I was surprised that my younger sister (there's an 18 year age gap between us so she's old enough to be my daughter) enjoyed it as much as I did. Same for the Fuller House episodes. Disney also developed storylines where the characters had broad range of ages and sort of grew up with us, with longer seasons. I mean think of Hannah Montana, that show started when I was in the 4th grade and ended when I was in my high school. I'm not ashamed to stay that I watched it up until it ended cause it was that good for me. On the contrary, Nickelodeon shows rarely showed adults except to be part of comedic gags. The humor is outdated and the witty sarcastic humor that was part of shows like Ned's Declassified is commonly seen on Tik Tok or RUclips shorts. I just think Disney as a whole had better storylines and plots. But when I think of popular Nickelodeon shows like ICarly or VIctorious, I struggle to remember a particular storyline but rather just random funny moments or episodes that had something unique.
I feel like the shows that could pull off reboots the most are animated shows. Typically with those it doesn't really matter if the main characters grow up or not so long as the voice actors are good so it could still be marketed towards a new or previous audience (of children, adults, or whatever age demographic). What comes to mind is the She-Ra reboot. I never continuously watched the original but when I watched the reboot I found myself enjoying it. But I believe the benefit of an animated reboot is that you can literally change the art style, character designs, voice actors, and change around any themes or plot points (within reason) and have an actual modernized refresh of the source material. It's a bit harder to do that with real actors/live action media.
The only kids show I can think of that I think it would make complete sense for it to get a reboot/continuation is good luck Charlie. Having a series where Charlie is in high school and is watching her sisters video diaries while going through her teen years.
I NEVER comment on RUclips videos, like ever, but I have been watching you for years. I’ve seen every video and I feel like I grew up with you on in the background. You are so loved by this community and such an inspiration to many!
I liked what you said about reunions being better than reboots and that it's nice to hear what the actors think about where their characters ended up. My beef with the "where are they now" shows is that I usually hate what the writers came up with and I would've preferred to keep my own ideas of how life went for these characters. The things they come up with can just seem so random or overly dramatic for no real reason. And honestly my thoughts are no less canon than anything a writer comes up with years after the fact, right? Especially when it's different writers than the ones who originally wrote the show. And I've noticed that often the actors are much more thoughtful concerning their characters than the writers and have much better insight, especially when shows have kept the same cast but not the same writers. So I'd rather hear their thoughts than watch a cash grab reboot that wasn't written with love and intention
No reboots at all. You're right that the Disney tv show "reboots" are actual continuations of the original show. And I love when beloved shows do reunions with the cast. I'm so sick of what seems like nothing new coming out of production companies. I understand that there is really nothing original, but quit remaking movies or tv shows for cash grabs (I'm looking at you Disney with the live action versions). This was great, and I'm really enjoying how much you appear to be enjoying making these videos. You look fabulous and I hope you're feeling it to, happy holidays!🥰
Someone online said that Ned’s Declassified is the show you watched when you were in between your favorite shows and that REALLY stuck with me, because in my case it was true!!!!!!! I watched the show but never loved the show, and I definitely don’t want a reboot 😅 also, I’d argue that the iCarly reboot was actually pretty good, minus the younger character, I did like the storyline it was given and wish it hadn’t ended!
The only one I was excited for was The Lizzie Mcquire bc Hilary is so unproblematic and the original idea would have went so well!!! Especially if that had made it for the original views with the same writers like it was gonna be and still under Disney but with Hulu behind it I think would have been one of the best.
Ok I know very little about makeup, beauty influencers, etc., so when you make videos covering those I usually think "I don't know much about this but I'll watch anyway because I love how she presents all the tea." But THIS?!?! This is RIGHT up my alley girl! Cannot wait to watch
i’m not even being sarcastic rn this is my new favorite topic from you it’s legitimately so good! “the story has concluded” like omg 😭 thank you sooooo much for doing glowmas
I like the idea of a reboot for some shows, but I've never watched a single episode of a reboot. Also - i think the Ned's Declassified podcast would've been a HIT, IF only they did an "adult's survival guide!" They could've talked about topics like dating, shmexual relations, parenting or not wanting kids, had guests talk about like, roommate horror stories and give advice in like, a humorous way. They had so much opportunity
I was surprised at how good the Wizards of Waverly Place commercials looked. I actually *want* to watch it which has never happened before for me. Wait- also when you mentioned Friends having the perfect ending all I could think of was how Futurama quite literally had the perfect ending and then they rebooted it. I refuse to watch the new show *because* the old shows ending wrapped it up so nicely and made me cry.
Girl every eye look during glowmas has been FIRE. I need to know what shimmers those are. 😍 I also love these ranty/just sitting back and chatting videos. They’ve been amazing. So glad to see you back. 💚
I am so happy with all these GLOWMAS videos. I need fun content, so thank you! As for reboots, I do not actually mind what Disney does which is take a classic animated tale and make it into live action (with judicious use of CGI for the fantastical characters) as long as the humans are given a chance to act like humans with the usual complement of baggage. I agree, I like what the cast of FRIENDS did. It was interesting, satisfying (at least for me) and everyone got to be an adult.
I can't believe that I have been subscribed to your channel for so many years now continually watching, and for some reason this year all your glowmas videos haven't been showing up on my feed or my subscribed channel new videos 😮. Catching up now!
Gotta say, I LOVE this Smokey Glow Reboot!
this is such a cute comment
I love this! Hehe 🤍
Yaz! ❤❤❤

Yes girl❤
I leave space for glowmas like it’s the lyrics of defying gravity
YOUR CAT IS PRECIOUS
I second this.
thats...really powerful...that's what I've wanted 😁
I love you
The absolute very best of compliments

“Hannah Montana” is a show that should NEVER EVER get a reboot. I loved that show, it was a big part of my childhood, and the final episode was a satisfying conclusion to the show.
Could not agree more!!!
Did you know there were two finales that were showed in different parts of the country based on how viewers voted?
Could not imagine Miley wanting to go back to Disney so i feel like you will get your wish
Agreeeeeee
PLEASE do a Lindsey shaw deep dive 🤣
PLEASE 🙏🏼
Thirding
fourthing!
Yaaas pls
I was honestly coming here to ask the same!!!
Please do a series about Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide bunch! This would be awesome!!
I have never heard of that show in my entire life. But I fully agree.
“The children grew up, and now they hate their lives, just like the rest of us.” The perfect way to sum up why certain kids’ shows don’t get reboots
1:07 the way I would sell my soul to get this 5 part series

Yes! Omg that was straight up embarrassing to watch her/their downfall
I’m here for the 5-part series on Lindsey Shaw 🙋🏻♀️

Bro I’m having trouble even concentrating cause your eyeshadow is so sparkly 😊😊
I know there’s going to be a video every day and yet I still get so excited to see you upload 😂
im a fellow tanktop and sweater girl!!
Seeing you post everyday gives me so much joy!!! Thank you for providing entertainment after stressful work day
We want a 5 part series on Ned’s Declassified! 😮❤
Yes! I hate them!
100% read the title as we don’t need a robot and thought this would be about AI LOL
Hannah posts, I click. Simple as that! I have been loving Glowmas so much. Also you look stunning in every video girl ❤️
Glowmas is the reason for the season 👏🏽😍
Omg and just from the screenshot I was like YASS HANNAH YOUR WHOLE LOOK! ❤
The eye glitter omgggg😍
Right?? I’m obsessed
FINALLY! RUclips is showing me your videos again! 💗
Same! ❤
Yes Friends ended so well and their reunion was amazing. So well done. I'm so glad Matt was able to be apart of it.
I don’t live near any of my friends anymore, I moved away a few years ago and when I tell you watching these videos feels like sitting down and talking to them again. Like it feels the same as hanging out with my besties and glowmas is really making my day every day. Thanks Hannah!❤
I just want to say, thank you for coming back, as someone with no friends, i feel your videos help me feel not so alone.
Your videos bring me so much joy. Thank you ❤
I’ll take a reboot over another Marvel movie lol but seriously girrrl you’re glowing in all these videos lately.
(i got into the series through the 2019 version so i was lucky to not have to wait that many years haha)
that being said, i do also agree that it sucks that execs don't give original ideas a chance. the same situation also applies with animation, newer shows have a harder time gaining a fanbase because they don't get the budget or the marketing and they are often axed after just one season because greedy companies only care about profit. they know that nostalgia sells and sucks people in. that's why disney keeps putting out those shitty live action movies that no one wants, instead of giving the same budget or attention to original and fresh ideas. when those flop, they can throw their hands in the air and say "oh well people just want reboots!" and then serve us more of the same crap.
Please make a whole five part series on Lindsay Shaw and the l Ned’s declassified situation. I am begging you.
Also, your thoughts on everything are always so spot on, and so is your makeup💖
Amen to this. Not everything needs a reboot!
I’m totally down for a five part series on just about anything.💚
I clicked the video and THEN got the notification 😂
I agree with reunion episodes being the best. Behind the scenes, bloopers, interviews. Show me all of it.
It been a tough year, Smokey. Please bless us with a video on Linsday Shaw 🥺
Omfg thank you I've been shouting this from the rooftops for years now
I love a good tank top, sweater combo. Well, I love sweaters in general. And I love autumn when I can pull out my sweaters and boots.
Omg that moment when Ross and Rachel get married at the reunions interview was so sweet
You always say what I'm thinking. Thank you for not making me feel crazy cause
The only one I was excited for was The Lizzie Mcquire bc Hilary is so unproblematic and the original idea would have went so well!!! Especially if that had made it for the original views with the same writers like it was gonna be and still under Disney but with Hulu behind it I think would have been one of the best.
Ok I know very little about makeup, beauty influencers, etc., so when you make videos covering those I usually think "I don't know much about this but I'll watch anyway because I love how she presents all the tea."
But THIS?!?!

Love glowmas sm. Thank you for bringing back the tradition! One of the few youtubers that still does it!!! It's so nostalgic and fun
Girl every eye look during glowmas has been FIRE. I need to know what shimmers those are. 😍
I also love these ranty/just sitting back and chatting videos. They’ve been amazing. So glad to see you back. 💚
Gurl, it’s so good to have you back! Hope life is treating you well, cause you for sure are blessing us with your videos
Your reaction as soon as you said Lindsay Shaw the first time was incredibly relatable and I actually lol-ed 😂
Ugh I’ve truly missed your content so so much! Thank you for glowmas!
Been so happy seeing a new video from you come up on my feed
YOU LOOK SO CUTE IN THAT OUTFIT!! And yes - I can relate to the winter outfit tanks/sweaters/leggings vibe too!
I can't believe that I have been subscribed to your channel for so many years now continually watching, and for some reason this year all your glowmas videos haven't been showing up on my feed or my subscribed channel new videos 😮. Catching up now!
WRRKKK yes this is making my holiday season so much better tyyyyy
absolutely LOVING the Glowmas content! Keep it up!
