Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Young Guns) joins us this week and shares his gratitude for being able to sustain a successful career in the arts for over 40 years, while highlighting the importance in open conversations about mental health along the peaks and valleys that come with it. Lou talks a lot about his experience in La Bamba - going from a day player to being Ritchie Valens, having just seven days to prepare the songs, and the biggest shock that came with his portrayal. We also talk about his pursuit for acting coming out of Texas, his hopes for a return to Young Guns, and the work ethic that propels him into so many different projects. Развлечения
This man deserves WAY more praise for his acting skills than the celebrity world has given him.
he might be to normal.
not enough glitter or nail polish.
I guess you didn’t see BATS. Lmao. His fake accent kept coming and going
In Courage Under Fire, he gave an Oscar-worthy performance. He did not want to be limited to "Indian only" roles.
The First Power (1990)...if you haven't seen, you should
The Big Hit. He was hilarious 😂
3 would be a movie I would go see in theaters. Wonderful movies. They still stand up to this day
I'd watch a Young Guns/Old Guns 3 any day!
Only if they were all black African fellas in the movie 😳🚬
Same. I love these movies. I’m totally up for a 3rd!
@@goodnightmunchiewhy the fuck would they be black?
Unfortunately they'll woke it up and it'll be trash.
Chief Lou diamond Phillips died in young guns 2 and so did all the other regulators.
Lou diamond Phillips has been one of my favorite actors since I was a little kid and La Bamba came out. I'd love to see a Young guns 3.
i think the guy who played his brother was a far better actor
@@tested123 esai morales? he's awesome.
@@Beastie_Boy33 honestly i dont think ive ever seen him in anything else. but i loved him in la bamba. probably the best in the movie.
@@tested123 he was in the first season of ozark, and he's the main villain in the new mission impossible. he plays a great bad guy. and he was hilarious in la bamba.
Can't wait for LA Bamba 2
My wife and i met Lou at megacon several years ago. He is one of the most amazingly kind hearted humans we've ever met. My wife is a childhood fan of his and was crying. He literally came out from behind his table and gave her a and my daughter a beautiful embrace. Super comforting.
A celebrity at a paid event hugged your family and now he is one of the most kind hearted humans you have met?
@@garyc4019 we didn't pay him. Bye
@OscarsTechTalk last time I checked megacon cost 550 for all 4 days per person....even if you bought 1days you still spent 150+ for 3 people
@@OscarsTechTalk 2 minutes on Google and you can find out it was in 2019 and you did pay for his autograph the prices for everything at that event are still online 😂
@garyc4019 There are also celebrities at megacon that are paid to be there and do the bare minimum, others are still complete a-holes, but are being paid to be there. We paid some celebrities and others just started talking to us without payment. Being PAID doesnt make you a good or fake or bad person. He was gracious and kind because thats who he is! Now as me about Lou Farignou MY hero growing up and ill tell you that HE was the complete opposite of Lou and we paid MORE for a photo with him. Sad you feel the need to shyte on someones experience because youre cynical and miserable.
Yes! Young Guns 3!! Come on, Morgan Creek! Get out of your own way and let this happen!
100% make this happen!!
Hard pass. There was a time when Young Guns 3 would’ve made sense, but not now. I’m not a fan of remake’s, but I’ll take a remake of Young Guns over Young Guns 3.
@@paulira7407you really want a remake? After all the terrible remakes that have been coming out for years? I mean cool if you’re enjoying them… But remakes have not been doing well and that’s a fact (with rare exceptions like Dune and IT). I would take the original cast of Young Guns any day…
@@destroy-erase-improve9106if you made me pick, I would go with a remake of Young Guns any day of the week over a Young Guns 3 movie. Honestly, Young Guns 2 sucked and never should’ve been made, but I understand the financial reasons why it was.
@@destroy-erase-improve9106 He's not saying he wants a remake but he's saying that a remake would have a better possibilty of being good. I agree with him. Whatever window there was to make a Young Guns III that window has closed.
I still miss Lou on "Longmire" He was fantastic as Standing Bear!
Lou nailed the speech in Young Guns. So good.
Man, I grew up watching Lou. His movies were so important to me.
Same
Which ones ?
The big hit was my intro to Lou and loved his work ever since
@@LesscoBranden La Bamba, Stand and Deliver, Young Guns I & II, Renegades
Also for me, his Stargate universe role. I didn't like the series (too different) but he was the best thing in it.
I went to the same high school that Lou did and he came back to talk to us in Mrs. Chapman's theater class and he was just so damn nice to us. A true class act Lou is.
Go Hornets!
"Glad I didn't kill ya Steve. You're alright."
Chavez went to the spirit world
Never showed anything.
@@XxSEETH3RxX They can do whatever they want, retcon whatever. An Old Guns film would make me so fucking happy.
I can’t see him.
@@XxSEETH3RxX Yes it does. The white horse is shown coming for him. Stop it. Itd make zero sense for him to be back.
@@dblshotz75 I don't have to stop anything. No proof he died. Juts implied. Don't like it then don't watch when it comes out.
The commentary on Young Guns is probably the best one I've ever watched.
Hey that's cool I'll have to check that out
I believe "Father Time" is the actual correct answer.
They could just call it old guns.
Age hasn't stopped Clint Eastwood and add Kevin Costner from making good westerns.
@@BrandonHeat243 Lmao what, have you even seen Young Guns 2?
@@BrandonHeat243 Yeah that's apparent. You might want to rethink your comment then.
I'd watch "Old Guns..." A "What if?" Why not?
Took the words right out of my mouth...
No one ever talks about Disorganized Crime. I love that movie.
Shot in Montana
I saw it for the first time recently. Great ensemble cast. Fun movie to watch ...
Very underrated movie, really enjoyed it!
or the first power
Yes! Rueben Blades was hysterical!
I really enjoyed him in "Longmire"
I think it’s hilarious how Lou keeps getting cast as an Indian or a Mexican but rarely if ever as a Filipino
I am 100% for a young guns 3, that is something I would go see in a theater for the first time in years! :]
I feel like he is such an underrated actor. Very good range as an actor and also seems to be a very humble and good guy.
I was born in '89, grew up in the 90's and he's an actor I remember pretty well from my childhood. He always left an impression in any project he did, at least for me.
People who misuse “underrated” would say that about almost everyone.
The show Longmire was great and so was he in it.
He is perfectly rated, saying crap is underrated is not hip anymore.
He's a good actor who got stuck in a lot of B movies due to his divorce.
Young Guns 3 Lets GOOOOO!!!
I wanna see Danny Trejo, Adam Beach, Lou, Graham Greene, and Wes Studi in some sort of drama/comedy together.
or a thriller, or a horror, or whatever, I'd watch them in any movie
Have you seen Skinwalkers? its got Adam Beach and Wes Studi. its the same characters as the Dark wind show. I agree though a movie or show with them all would be awesome.
Young Guns changed my life as a kid. Got me interested in history and the wild west ....Young Guns 2 changed the course of my life forever.
It made me who i am today...a Loyal Anti-,hero....
"When the spirit horse comes my friend, then its over"
I haven't supported anything out of Hollyweird in so many years but I would be stoked about Young Gun 3
“My Richie” needs a better phone camera!😂
Maybe a cleaner screen
@@Mntguy-nr9vl What's he been up to...
in all of his awesome roles, as an inuk kid from northeastern canada, he will always be Agagok to me in Shadow Of The Wolf, where he played an inuk hunter (inuit), and Jennifer Tilly was his wife.
He was incredible on Longmire too.
Yes! No one ever mentions that!
Can’t wait for young guns 3
Lou was so good in The Longmire series, you can just really get into his acting
Where Richey Valens died. There is a picture of Lou Diamond Phillips. That is how iconic Loud as an actor became. How well he captured the role.
Ask Lou to push the turbo button on his computer to help with the image quality.
The peyote scene in the first movie is absolutely hilarious!
“Did you see the size of that chicken?” 😂😂😂😂
@@Sh4h33d lmao! Haha!
Lou! one of my Favorite actors!
What a legend he looks great. Young Guns forever!
Lou Diamond Phillips, Love his movies, especially Young Guns series. Hopefully this gets made
Let's fucking gooooo! We want part 3
Chavez, Chavez!-Dirty Steve 😂😂
I'll for sure be down to watch young gun 3
Holy crap, I forgot about Lou.. He is amazing, love his work.. Young guns are unbelievable movies, he was crazy good in it. Loved his character..
Young Guns 3 with Emilio, Lou D., Judd Nelson, Michael Anthony Hall and Jason Bateman & Christian Slater, 🤩
And Charlie Sheen.
@@JohnSmith-gq9gnhard pass on him now. Definitely not the same person or personality when he was in Young Guns.
@@dannyfrog Funny thing about actors, they can make you think they're someone else for 78 minutes.
And Kiefer
I'm probably spelling it wrong but durmont Mulroney too and the little guy from 3 o'clock high that played the pugilist.
Young Guns / Old Guns…… Let’s Go!!!!!!
The cowboy camp sounds fun🙂
Westerns and classic American movie an TV is taking on again. Love it
Lou Diamond Phillips is Awesome.
So glad to hear those guys got along on set. It shows in the film and it makes me love the movie more than I already did.
It needs to be made, it will be a hit IF they keep it true and with the original actors.
my mom and him played pool at a bar I worked at and was very nice to her so I just wanted to say thank you for that lou for being kind to my mom and being a good guy :) also liked you in stargate!
Really enjoyed his acting in Longmire ❤❤❤❤
Let’s go Morgan Creek get off your butts and let’s make a great movie. Nobody’s getting any younger and there seems to be a real desire for this. I for one would love to see this movie come to fruition. I grew up on the first movie, I loved the sequel and I’ve followed almost every actor from the films.
Lou part where he talked about the raid n so the army could save bullets was Oscar worthy. I felt his pain n suffering n have never been close to anything that terrible but I could almost feel it. Amazing.
Didn't recognize him at first, then I was like, Chavez, is that you lol
I've always really liked Lou Diamond Phillips.
I loved this interview
I loved Lou Diamond on “ stand and deliver”
Is this Kal cu lus ?
Lou killed it on Blue Bloods as Luis Delgado so I'm glad he is getting recognition again because he is fucking awesome.
Also if you remember back to TV series Num3rs he was great there as well.
Its nice to hear stars whose biggest fame is behind them soeak positively of it and the people they worked with. Its rare these days.
He was the coolest, most funniest, most badass crazy guy in The Big Hit! Know all his lines 😂
Such a good comedic actor Lou is looking at him in the big hit.
"Yo baby, you got a number for me?"
I really wanted to meet you at Mad Monster party con in Arizona yesterday. The autograph price was fine but the selfie for $100 was just too rich on top of autograph price.Loved ya in Poolhall junkies ,maybe I’ll get ya to sign it one day if your prices drop for fans.Lou Diamond was extremely kind to meet and he charged a perfect con price.
Lou has always been an awesome actor on and off camera..
Lou is an amazing actor
Henry Standing Bear is one of my faaavvvssss
I mean....they all died. The only ine who canonically lived was Billy, so i suppose they could do a sequel with him in Mexico, bridging the gap between Garrett helping him fake his death and Billy coming back to New Mexico in the 30s. Also, i swear i heard somewhere that Young Guns 3 was actually happening, along with another Mighty Ducks movie. Mandala Effect?
Young Guns 3!!! Emilio Estevez! Charlie Sheen! Lou Diamond Phillips! Kiefer Sutherland! Christian Slater! Dermot Mulroney! Casey Siemaszko! Alan Ruck! Balthazar Getty! William Petersen! Terry O' Quinn! Viggo Mortensen! You could definitely come up with some type of crazy script to bring back all these stars and characters and have it make sense!! Whether the stuff that happened to them was Spiritual or by old Legend Tall Tales!!
Charlie Sheen's character died on screen in the first Young Guns.
@joemckim1183 obviously you didn't read my entire paragraph there lol.
@@HOLLYWOODCOMBAT What about zombie cowboys? Billy the Kid: Zombie Hunter
@joemckim1183 obviously you don't know what old long tails in the western days or what spiritual Indian beliefs are. Old long tails could be maybe Charlie Sheen didn't die they just thought he did and the tail was that he did which Emilio Estevez talked about in an interview. And the spiritual side which Lou Diamond Phillips in other interviews talks about maybe they're in some type of spiritual world now.
@@HOLLYWOODCOMBAT You're really stretching here dude.
They could so something similar to Top Guns Maverick. Draw to the nostalgia to do something really heartfelt.
This world needs more westerns!!
From The Big Hit (1998):
Paris : What would you do to someone... who decided to fuck with you in your own house?
Cisco : I'd bust some caps!
Paris : Bust some caps! Give this man a gold star.
One of the best Lou Diamond Phillips scenes. And pretty relevant to this discussion.
Lou Phillips is a awesome actor so underrated it's silly
In my early 20's I live with a buddy and one of us would grab dunkin donuts every night on the way home and we'd watch young guns 2. We did this for like 6 to 8 months. No idea why. I would be all over a part 3 no matter what they call it lol
I love when they're all tripping peyote!!! Plus a movie song by bon jovi.
Can someone tell me the name of the song playing at 4:20? It’s stuck in my head!
I would love to see Young Guns 3!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!
We need 3 to happen
I would love to see YG 3
"Rusty guns" lmao
Love it.
La Bamba and young guns was my jam when I was a kid
The best feeling for an actor.
These movies were so good, I watched them both so many times as a kid I think I wore out the VHS tapes.
I'd love a sequel! Gotta comment on that Slap Shot T-shirt, tho. Charlie sewing up "Killer" Carlson's lip! I want one!
YOUNG GUNS BOTH 1 AND 2 WERE GREAT WE WANT 🦾OLDER GUNS #3 HELL YEA!
Lou was awesome in "The first Power" with Jeff Kober
Young Guns was pure entertainment and I loved it! I hate sometimes it's a person or group or some corporate decision that stifles something from growing. It's just sad. We all have one life. Stop getting in the way of living!
Love you Lou great childhood memories and you are part of that thank you you are a beautiful man
IMO Lou's best movie was LA BAMBA that's been my favorite movie since I was 7 or 8 and I'm 43. No joke. Hope young guns 3 does come out.
I'd love to see it!
I don't watch many movies anymore but a Young Guns 3! I would walk miles to the theater if I had to...
I want to see a sequel to La Bamba. About the family of Ritchie.
That would be a boring ass movie
LDP was friggen awesome in The Big Hit. Honestly, he was the saving grace in that movie, imo. So over the top, but with style. 🍻 Rock on, LDP.
That Slap Shot t-shirt is the best
Route 666 is a GREAT movie. Highly recommend.
Make part three now, this has to happen
I pray they tell an amazing story with huge success that doesnt focus on politics. Politics are killing the industry. LDP and young guns franchise is legendary.
I’m an 80s baby. I grew up to all the young guns. Let’s do a number three come on.
Let’s go! 🙏🏽🔥😎
YG's 1 and 2 are a couple of my favorite movies of all time.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL The last bit killed me! I'm aging with Lou and co-stars and would love to see a "3"!
MAKE IT HAPPEN WOULD LOVE TO SEE YG3 THAT WOULD BE AWESON.. LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS IS A GREAT ACTOR ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES
Everyone died in YG2. What is there to do in a sequel?
Most of what happened in part 2 was non canon. Like Chavez death. Who actually in real life lived a full life.
It's been a long time since I saw YG2, but I seem to remember it contradicted the ending of the first film and established facts, so I never took it that seriously. I still enjoy the original from time to time though.
When would it take place? The roaring 20s? lol It would have a Boardwalk Empire like aesthetic. I'd like to see it. I remember really enjoying Young Guns 1 and 2, but I haven't seen them since I was a kid. I think I'll revisit them.
the 1st one is my favorite western of all time most people have this or that John Wayne film mine is Young Guns. i'm not a huge western fan but i love that one. in part 2 though Lou does die in it hell i think they all do. though Emilo though is the only one that lives to an old age to die. everyone else i think dies in it but if they ignore Part 2 it could work and i'd be okay with that i hated them killing off Lou as he's always been my favorite character
Those movie's are so great
I enjoyed his character in Longmire where he never used contractions
Bring it on 🎉
