    Michael Biehn (Tombstone, Aliens) joins us again this week, as promised - and he does not disappoint! Story on story on story… Michael addresses misconceptions with Tombstone, deadly experiences while filming The Abyss, alternative casting on The Terminator, and so much more that we couldn’t fit in his first appearance. There are great moments where Michael discusses the importance of protecting yourself as an actor, including a positive experience he had collaborating on his upcoming film The Red. We also talk about his run-in with Deniro, his love for Aliens, and suffering from JDD.

      @davidjames579 5 месяцев назад +8

      He does. He looks great for his age.

    • @JumpCutThis
      @JumpCutThis 4 месяца назад +9

      Except for a decent portion of his adult life, he didn’t ‘take care’ of himself. He was very good at consuming alcohol, and that can do a real number on the body, especially the face. But I believe he jumped onto the wagon after being sued in 04 for breach of contract for being a pretty obnoxious drunk making The American. Im pretty sure he had a stroke and open heart surgery after that, as well. But if you look back to him in the ‘80s, his appearance has changed dramatically.
      As a 57-year old woman I can say, he looks his age. Younger generations have a tendency to hear +65 and think elderly/wrinkled/aged, however 65 ain’t what it used to be, and the older you get, the more you see it. I will say, for everything he’s been through, he looks incredibly good, but I’d say it’s more genetic than anything. Some people just have solid genes and can withstand years of abusing their bodies and not look too bad on the other side.

    • @jm7804
      @jm7804 3 месяца назад +8

      Taken care of himself? Are you insane? He was a raging alcoholic for years, had a stroke, and open heart surgery. Yes, he looks decent considering those factors, but he doesn't look or sound anything like his younger or even middle aged self.

      I don't think most people in Hollywood have a chip on their shoulder. I think you're probably thinking of the Hollywood elite whom you hear and read about in the tabloids - but even then, most of them are pretty down to earth if you were to have a one on one. One of the phrases I absolutely hate is when somebody meets someone famous and they describe them as being "down to earth". Yeah? No kidding? They were a person, and not an alien visiting our planet? I had no idea Brad Pitt could have a conversation with ol' Joe Schmoe, the plumber who fixed his leaking faucet. People are people. It's rare because I first saw it as a teenager, and even though I was more than familiar with literally everyone in it, I didn't recognize a single one of them (not even Kurt or Val Kilmer) because they all embodied their characters so well that I couldn't even tell at the time. But the last few times I've really zoned in on Beihn's performance and the way he convey's unsure confidence against Doc, is so well done. Just the right amount bravado, with fear lurking just below the surface. His eye movements during that last confrontation, were so indicitive of this. He said a lot, just with facial expressions.

    I remember when I first met Michael Biehn in 2017 at a convention, and he said that Tombstone was his favorite movie, that he ever did. And I agreed with him about his anger and frustration at Alien 3, and he told me that even James Cameron was pissed. I met Michael again earlier this year, and he was still very pleasant to talk to. His wife was at the convention this year too, and she was really fun to talk to. It was pretty much a Terminators 1 & 2 reunion. Michael was there, Robert Patrick, Edward Furlong, Lance Henriksen and Linda Hamilton. The only one I didn't meet out of them, was Edward.

    Still one of the most authentic westerns ever, largely due to the work of Peter Sherayko (who also played Texas Jack Vermillion). His company provided firearms, clothing, and extras for the movie, and his meticulous attention to period correctness ensured nothing showed up that would not have existed at the time. Many lines were also lifted directly from transcripts of the trial which followed the "shootout". The cast was possibly the greatest ever assembled as well. Fantastic movie.

    My understanding was that Kurt didn't want to embarrass George by publicly outing him as not being the real director, so he would give George signals to mean "I like that take" or "I don't like that take." After shooting would wrap for the day, Kurt would go back to his trailer and create a shot list for George for the next day. If true, it's understandable why Michael wouldn't have realized this was going on.

He still had a nice long career as a character actor but I thought he would have been bigger than he was. Hollywood is weird sometimes.
    Kurt probably did help direct most of Tombstone. It was directed by George P Cosmatos who also rumor has it basically let Sylvester Stallone basically direct Rambo 2 and Cobra. He was known as a director you hire when there is a star on board that wants to have a say in the making of the film.

    I remember reading an article in the Burbank library, I think the magazine was called True Western, where Kurt Russell laid out how Tombstone was put together after Kevin Jarre was let go.
    Kurt said that Sylvester Stallone recommended George Cosmatos as they had a similar arrangement on Rambo 2. Russell would basically give Cosmatos a shot list for the next day, and they’d knock out the day’s work. I think he even used the term ‘ghost directing’ and he said that while Cosmatos was alive, he’d never give up their arrangement. But at some point, Russell was sort of in charge of bringing the picture in.
    Either way, I love the movie, and think Bruce Broughton should be in the composer’s hall of fame for his score for Tombstone.

    Only complaint with Tombstone I've ever had was continuity issues and effects. The scene where the anguished Wyatt exits the Oriental his hands are blood stained, then he lifts his hands towards Maggie and they are absolutely covered in blood and he then walks out into a rainstorm that is literally just around him and not the entire set, and that blood somehow isn't washing off or spreading onto his shirt so much. Also, when Curly Bill goes on his opium induced shooting rampage with his "six shooters," I think he fires off around 20-22 rounds with no reloading time. I absolutely love this movie and regularly watch it a few times a year.
