@@Cyrus83842 I am not sure if Pat did collect a bounty or not. But lots of marshals and deputies did collect bounties to supplement their income. They where required to follow the domain rules of a bounty hunter while doing so. And i believe the kid was a jail breaker at the time so there should have been a bounty on him.
I’ve spoken with Porter Garrett, Pat Garrett’s grandson in Lubbock Texas 40 years ago. He told me that his grandfather indeed did not kill Billy. Couldn’t do it. That is why he only brought back Billy’s boots as proof and not his body or his horse as was customary at the time. Billy rode barefoot for Mexico and returned some time later and assumed the name Bill Robert’s and live to be an old man in Texas. That’s what Pat’s grandson, Porter Garrett who was in his 90s at the time we spoke some 40 years ago told me. I swear with God as my witness the above account is true and accurate.
Well I am sorry to burst your bubble, but the math doesn't add up and I don't believe there even is a Garrett grandson by that name. Forty years ago Pat Garrett's last surviving son was not even that old. Nor was his next youngest sibling who died 43 years ago. In fact, the oldest of Garrett's children could not have had a child that was 90+ years old in the 1980s. So if someone named Garrett actually DID tell you that, they were lying to you. Garrett's last son (who passed in 1991 at about 85-86, and I know people who knew him) certainly knew his father killed the Kid, and at least two genuine Garrett grandchildren are also on the record. Apolinaria, Garrett's widow, went to Court to recover the Colt revolver Garrett used to kill the Kid from the estate of the friend Pat loaned it to, and she was photographed with it and written up in the papers. She was from Fort Sumner and would have known the Kid, as her sister Celsa was close friends with him. It was from Celsa's home that the Kid reportedly had just walked to the Maxwell house when he was shot. No question in their minds about the Kid dying that night. At best, you were fed a very tall tale. Oh, and no such record exists of Garrett taking Billy's boots. It is well recorded that he was not wearing boots. One book says Garrett auctioned Billy's Colt Thunderer in Lincoln, but that's the ONLY known reference to Garrett taking anything off the Kid. It's questionable, given the source. The butcher's knife Billy had remained in the Maxwell family for 100 years before going to the collector's market. Despite the 20th century fabrications, there are actually dozens of named Fort Sumner residents who saw Billy's body either in the house or during the night-long open viewing of Billy's body, during the wake held with Garrett's willing consent. According to some present, virtually the whole village attended his burial as well, perhaps 150-200 people, both friends and enemies of the Kid. It's beyond all reasonable doubt that the Kid died that night.
It's plausible, that Garrett really WAS Billy's friend. It's plausible that they conspired to stage Billy's death and allow Billy to live free and stop running
Or that Garrett was, more plausibly to me at least, less competent than he and those around him let on. That would be my bet. More likely, Garrett made a mistake in killing the wrong guy, made his own official story (especially considering just months later he wielded both the power of a U.S. Marshall AND County Sheriff), and then wrote a book on the events that were later (largely) proven to be fabrications. The clout chasing was real with this guy I think, but that's my 2 cents on the little I know about him. Not saying that he wasn't necessarily a competent cop in-general, but that maybe his pursuance of Billy was something he attached to his ego rather than his most underlying, deep morals, and he just wanted to finally be done with the whole thing and get the glory. If all true, then that just made him human. Though maybe less so than Billy The Kid.
Garrett was not an Angel. He worked for the corrupt side of this war. He was very capable of screwing up and then covering it up. There's lots of evidence to support the cover up.
yeah but wait.... there's more!.... tell me how bushy bill roberts if he was not billy the kid had a son with the governers daughter you know Billy the kids sweet heart, again "GARRETT'S DON'T KILL FRIENDS" look it up i tell you no lies, His great great grand daughter is alive and she is the one who did a dna test with the remains of Bushy Bill Robert
garrett was saving himself. He shot the wrong man so passed him off as billy then made a deal with witnesses so he didnt get charged with murder and collected the reward.
He also had all the same scars. Also, when he went back and spoke with people that were still alive from that time, he answered their questions that only Billy would know.
He also offered up photos of himself at a young age. Problem is...they aren't the same guy in the famous authentic photo of the kid. Brushy Bill was a crazy old man. Nothing more.
@@JesusGarcia-cs9wl the analysis you're referring to took place in 1989, and it was using a custom made computer program not approved for use by law enforcement, but he still scored a 78% (42nd out of 150 (1st out of 150 would be 100%)). The second analysis in 1990 used the same software used by the FBI, CIA, and Interpol. That was the one that said it was a 93% match.
@@Thomas-xe3ce it's a figure of speech. Only someone who was there would know. Meaning either Billy's contemporaries or Billy himself could've know those details. Since the people Brushy Bill was talking to have had their identities verified, that leaves one other explanation
Brushy Bill also had scars that matched bullets that Billy the Kid had taken, one of which was still lodged in his lower leg. I believe Brushy Bill was telling the truth. Thank you for your presentation.
@@lesleyewen-foster3629 Josh over at the wild West extravaganza RUclips channel does two great breakdowns of the evidence. I suggest the one Brushy Bill lying liar. Lol. It is about an hour and a half long but very entertaining and informative. Take care.
Wrong...a friend of Billy said he could identify Billy by the pattern of dots in his eyes...the friend met Brushy..looked in his eyes and said " that Billy alright". Also Brushy corrected history when he said "it's not Tom O'Folliard...its Tom O Folliard....several decades before the Genealogy test done that proved indeed it was Tom O Folliard. Remember there's no death records of Billy and New Mexico didn't recognize Billy's death and kept putting warrants against Billy for 3yrs after his alleged death. Garret was initially denied his reward. Poe's account that he thought Pat killed the wrong man. McKinney thought he killed the wrong man. There's actually many large holes and inconsistencies in Pat Garrett's accounts.
He was born in 1879 and he did not called himself Billy the kid, but he did called himself as Brushy Billy as well. He had lied his story. William Bonney is the one who decide to call himself as The Billy the Kid during the late 1870s, Brushy Billy was not born yet.
If Garrett knew Billy, as what was known to be the case, he would have known immediately it was Billy he had shot and would not have been needing verification of who was laying dead in the floor.
It has been said that Billy and Garret were supposed to be freinds and when The Kid was captured at Stinking Springs and taken away to be judged and hanged, a few days before Garret left on some business which was strange that he didnt send any of his deputies to sort these things out as Billy was a Big outlaw name and i think any other sheriff would of stayed, then all of a sudden Billy finds a gun in the outhouse. I personally think that Garret didnt want his freind to die so he placed a gun for him in the outhouse and so he wouldnt be blamed or be a suspect of this, he left. When The Kid got away but didnt leave south of the border and news got back that Billy was in Fort Sumner, Garret took some men with him to go get the kid ( or at least thats what he wanted his deputies to believe). The night Billy got shot Pat Garret Knew it wasnt Billy but someone had to be taken down and thats why there isnt any death photos of the Kid and after all this Billy Knew that this time he really had to make an exit. All this as a Billy The Kid fan is what i wish had happened and that Billy lived out his life under the name of Brushy Bill Roberts
they might've been acquainted before, but I think claims of them being close friends are an exaggeration. I remember seeing someone present as "evidence" a photo supposedly of them sitting with a group at a wedding, but it was quickly proved a fake. One reason was that Garrett was nearly a foot taller than Billy, but in the picture they're the same height. The version you described was the same one featured in Young Guns II, that Garrett couldn't bring himself to kill his old friend, and just let him go with the promise that Billy would leave and never resurface. I suppose it's plausible, but I've never seen any concrete evidence to back this up. If Billy did survive, I believe it'd be more likely that Garrett killed the wrong man and tried to cover it up with a quick funeral and not letting any next of kin claim or identify the body. Then Billy, seeing this was his perfect way out, disappeared into obscurity.
According to brushy he shot bell without ever leaving the building. But he did say another friend had left a gun there for him although the name escapes me.
It's a nice fairytale, but it's almost certain William Boney was ended that night by Pat. People love a conspiracy even in modern times, I know people who still think Elvis is/was alive long after his death.
Brushy also claimed to be Frank James at one time, and was friends with other frauds J Frank Dalton and "Uncle" Kit Carson. It's amazing that anyone takes him seriously still.
I remember an episode of Unsolved Mysteries covering Brushy Bill Roberts possibly being Billy the Kid. Very interesting. Young Guns was narrated by an old Billy the Kid. The only way out for Billy was either death or faking his death.
I love the legend of Billy the Kid and I like to believe that he lived a long life. Idk if Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy. Have they done any DNA testing at all?
Huh? The voice over in the beginning of Young Guns the movie was narrated by Emilio's brother Charlie Sheen who played "Dick" in the movie. Kiefer Sutherland who played "Doc" narrated the film towards the end, where he stated what happened to the surviving Regulators.
@Marie dj Burger they were going to. but the county and state administration shut them down. would not let them exhume billys mother for a dna test. such a shame
@@Tater4200 I actually read in the early 2000s they were going to exhume billy and his mother for DNA testing but a flood hit like 100 years ago and whipped out all the headstones so they couldn’t actually positively identify the remains
They tried to exhume the bodies in 2003, but all the headstones had been washed away in 1903 by a massive flood. So they were unable to identify the actual graves.
Henry McCarthy, William H Boney to Billy the Kid, and now Bushy Bill. It’s all a Robin Hood Story. Personally, I don’t believe it. The kid got shot. I have looked at the famous tin photo of the Kid many times, and I don’t see a resemblance at all. The jaw line and nose are completely different.
Also if you look close Billy's underneath the color of his eyes there is white... like Lauren Bacall's used to be when he had his eyes open you can actually see white under there...Brushy bill in his early picture you can't see any white at all under his colored part of his eyes
You guys are 100% right on bullshit bill wax just a 70 year old imposter hes been debunked destroyed demolished as an imposter first he rode with james gang then he was frank james then he was grat dalton killed in kansas then he was billy bonney whos next dillinger ? BAHAHAHAHAHA
0:45 I agree that Brushy Bill Roberts was telling the truth about being Billy the Kid. From everything I have read when researching Brushy Bill Roberts knew too many details about different circumstances as well as the original setup of the jailhouse he was kept in that no one else was even aware of. The facial recognition also seems very accurate. He lived an interesting life. I have the "Pat Garrett" book about Billy the Kid and from what I have read it seems obvious the book embellishes a lot and is a total fabrication. Pat Garrett's behavior also seems to indicate he knew he had not actually killed Billy the Kid. Billy had a Hispanic friend close to his own age who could pass as a Hispanic version of Billy. In fact one newspaper report from the Pat Garrett shooting of "Billy" said the body looked like Billy was disguised as a Mexican when the body was looked at by those present. They even said he had darkened his skin from the looks of it. Funny how Billy's Hispanic friend fits the description. I believe Pat Garrett lied to cover up his mistake and was too prideful to admit it, so to save face he just claimed Billy's Hispanic friend that Pat Shot was Billy and is why they did not take any pictures of the body after the killing. Brushy Bill Roberts had knowledge about Billy that only Billy could have had from first hand experience. Billy the Kid was done dirty by the New Mexico governor back in the late 1800's when the governor did not fulfill his word of giving Billy a pardon. They wanted to make an example of him plain and simple. That is why he tried again as an old man to get the then current New Mexico governor to give him his pardon he was promised, but instead they used it as a way to humiliate an old man. They did him wrong both times about his pardon. I am convinced Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy the Kid and not a fake.
I've thought this for a long time..always thought it was pretty evident that brushy bill was telling the truth. so I'm with you on this 100 percent. Great video btw
As the author of the book: THE STONE GARDEN: THE EPIC LIFE OF BILLY the KID, you might read it and see what you believe then. The 20th Anniversary edition is due out this fall.
I want to say that Governor Bill Richardson pardoned the Kid a few years back. They wanted to exhume the remains but it might take away from the Legend and grave site site at Ft. Sumner.
Billy surviving is a valid thgeory, however he was NOT Brushy Bill. We know this because: -Brushy Bill did not know which side Billy fought on in the Lincoln County War. -Brushy was illiterate and knew little Spanish, while Billy was literate and spoke Spanish fluently. -Brushy claimed that Billy's escape from jail after being sentenced to death was peaceful and withoiut bloodshed , which is not true. Billy killed Deputy Bell and several people witnessed Billy horribly massacre Bob Ollinger with both barrels of his own 10 gauge shotgun. -Brushy claimed to be left handed, like Billy. This is because the only photgraph of Billy at that time was a picture of him holding his rifle in his left hand, so people assumed him to left handed. It was found out decades after Brushy's death that the photgraph was flipped and Billy was actually holdiung the rifle in his right hand. Historians now belive Billy to have been ambidextrious but used his right as his dominant hand. Billy surving is a valid theory, but if he did, he most likely escaped to Mexico and disappeared from history altogether.
You are not correct on that....read or listen to Brushys audio and interviews etc we states SEVERAL times what side he was on...I'm not sure what you are reading. You gotta do more research before making such a comment.
@@insertnamehere313 in the initial interview with the historians, he did not know that Billy was with the Regulators. After the interview concluded with the historians coming to agreement that Brushy Bill couldn’t have been The Kid, he changed his story to rectify that and other the discrepancies I mentioned above. Moreover, that does not address the other points I have brought up, the most damning point being his illiteracy and inability to speak or understand Spanish fluently.
@@insertnamehere313 So far as I am aware, no such audio recordings have ever been made public. Supposedly one of Brushy's story pushers gained possession of the rumored tapes, but if they even are still playable they won't contain anything but the story Brushy told and Morrison published, and might even undermine it. What you are deliberately ignoring is the fact that, in the presence of Governor Mabry and reporters, Brushy told a very different story about his escape from the Lincoln Courthouse. His publicity-seeking goal of obtaining a pardon that was promised, but ultimately denied, to the historical Billy the Kid would not have absolved him of the killing of Bell and Olinger. Thus, Brushy had to pretend those historical killings did not happen before the Governor, probably coached by Morrison to do so. You know that, and you are just trying to deceive those who don't know the genuine history.
@@Rollin_L Are you ignoring the fact that the facial recognition test preformed by Austin university was done by two scientists with PhD's and used internationally recognized facial recognition system that was peer reviewed by two independent arbiters and two scientific journals and they concluded Bill and Brushy was one of the same. Sorry you failed to mention that about ignoring facts...unless your PhD is more prestigious and your study concluded something different. Edit- If you never heard those tapes then you are ignoring facts.. don't you think you're being a bit of a hypocrite?
Doesnt make sense for the simple fact of, all the sudden, Billy just decided, at the young age he was, as an outlaw, to lay low enough after that to never be heard of again? More then likely, if he had survived, that would not have been the last you heard of him!
people have a hard time when their hero's die, Elvis, Jfk jr, jesse james, butch cassidy even andy kaufman..they would rather believe they faked their deaths even if it's absurd..
Out of all of the people you mentioned, perhaps only one may have faked his death, Andy Kaufman. In reality, he most likely did die in 1984 of lung cancer However, I wouldn’t be surprised that Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy the Kid. I’m not saying that he was, but I’m not saying that he wasn’t neither.
@@oilersridersbluejays according to his death certificate brushy was born in 1879 not 1859 ...I think it's a nice story but I just don't buy into it...if somehow it can be proven he was actually born in 1859 well that's another story...but as it stands he can't be billy
Yep that is a good point, Billy found trouble very easiky. So how come he lived quietly after he was supposedly dead. He could have but hecwas supposed to be kinda hot headed,
If the law is going to be looking for you, you may go to drastic measures to hide yourself and you never know when the law will come knocking just like the guy that finally turned up as one of the escapees that broke out of Alcatraz.
I'm from Glencoe and Mescalero NM via my father's family, my mother's family is from Ft Sumner / Puerto De Luna. Still have family living and buried in Ft Sumner. I won't elaborate any further. But I will say this.. There ain't no way in hell that Brushy Bill was William Bonney.
I now believe that billy the kid , killed the man that murdered garrett . Period . Because pat and billy were practically family and that they were with the gutierrez sisters , is why you will not find celsa gutierrez after july 14 1881 , they probably ran off together but she died from some unknown reason in the 1880s and is rumored to be buried in los cruces where billy lived in the late 1890s
I still find it hard to believe that Roberts was the Kid. The main reason for my skepticism is that after the kid was killed he just disappeared. There were no more killings, sightings, news reports, robberies, or other events attributable to him. Sure you could say he took advantage of the misidentification by Pat Garrett and went "underground" for all those years, but this seems unlikely to me. Until the issue is resolved by DNA I will always be a skeptic.
You are correct. He was not the kid and was a proven liar. This is easily debunked if you read anything from the actual time it happened. People are stupid.
Yeah just like those woman claiming to have survived Bundy but only decades later.. no way Billy "hide" for decades only to claim to be billy in the 50s.. nah man I call that horseshit.
Brushy Bill said he joined Roosevelt's Rough Riders under the alias William S Murphy. If you google the names of Roosevelt's Rough Riders, you'll find a William S Murphy. What you will not find is any record of William S Murphy before or after the Rough Riders
Well Brushy’s chest full of his stuff is where? And the Brushy tapes are where? Why cant the public hear them? Brushy is a liar according to census and other records. And I read he did not have his teeth at the time of late photos. His daughter said he was not the kid. But he was an interesting cowboy that knew a-lot in his old age. We dont know how much he was coached for details. I checked him off the list when I found out he filed against the company that made billy the kid jeans for royalties.
Keep in mind pat was hard up for cash and was still a crook with the mind set of a crook. The guy he killed resembled Billy the kid close enough where he knew if he got his deputies to agree with identifying the body as Billy the kid, he could collect his cash reward. Helps to do your homework folks.
I believe it was him but I read that some said Brushy Bill didn't know spanish and was illiterate, whereas Billy The Kid could read and write and spoke spanish.
I originally had said that Brushy Bill was illiterate but retracted that statement when I saw evidence that showed he clearly wasn't. Brushy was also shown to be fluent in spanish.
Yup, this is a myth created by his doubters. He had correspondences and spoke Spanish. The same people who say Brushy was illiterate, also say he got all his knowledge from READING books about Billy the Kid
They also argued that billy was right handed while brushy was left. But it turns out that brushy was ambidextrous. So yeah im almost 100% convinced he was telling the truth. So not to mention that pat garrison said that based of billys corpse, he had grown out his beard ( something he was known to not be able to do in his early 20's) and tanned his skin to look like a mexican. One of the people who knew billy the kid was asked to dig his grave and he was convinced the body they had was that of billy barlow a half mexican boy who resembled billy the kid but was able to grew facial hair way before billy was able to. Idk im almost 100 percent convinced as well. It seems likely that if someone were going to come out with the story brushy told, they would wait 70 years to tell it if they were going to at all.
All leftys are ambidextrous. We have to adapt to the right world. I don't know any left handed people that solely use there left hand for everything. But also, what's this about the stained skin? Why because he was tan? It's been a few years since I went down this rabbit hole.
My great great grandmother use to feed William and friends when they’d pass through Tularosa, NM. She wrote that he was always a gentlemen, dressed neatly and was well educated.
Thank you for an interesting report. I have always been interested in Billy the Kid and since hearing about Brushy Bill Roberts have had an open mind on his demise. I have read that someone said that Brushy Bill was not Billy because in the photos of both Billy and Brushy Bill the ears do not match, I have tried looking at the ears but for me it's difficult to tell, so now it's interesting that you say there is a 93 per cent proof that they are the same person, this goes against the idea that the ears are different. Another thing is I remember hearing about Brushy Bill being made to meet people who actually knew Billy and those people after speaking to him said, yes, that's really Billy. Another thing that people disagree on is that some say he was bad, but others say he wasn't and was just seeking revenge for the death of his friend and that the law in fact was corrupt. I'd like to think that he survived and became Brushy Bill. Thank you again for an interesting report.
Mens ears swell and change as they grow older. Pictures of my grandad in ww2 his ears much smaller and tucked back compared to the cauliflowers he was left with in his 90s lol. Also, blue eye, depigmentation occurs and they grey over time. Ive read Brushy had grey eyes, this could explain that. Especially depigmentation occurs in sunny places like the desert. Though im not 100% on garret not wanting to kill billy. Money is very seductive and fame even more. He did kill two of the other regulators.
But what about his age ? Brushy was born 1879 ? billy the kid was shot in 1881 at the age of 21 ? in 1881 brushy was only 2 years old ,do you know maths can you do maths .
I'm becoming more and more convinced, that Brushy Bill, was none other than the person known as Billy The Kid. The first time I ever heard the claim, I felt that the matter would bear looking further into. He is perhaps one of the most improbable, accidental characters, of the Old West. It would seem, that he was slated by destiny, to be one of the great personalities of his time--and, perhaps for all time!
Brushy was just a story teller, so was his friends, Morrisson and Sonnichsen too. There was no evidence of a Billy Barlow in Fort Sumner, NM July 14th 1881. Brushy said that he heard that Pat Garrett in town, so he sent his imaginary friend Billy Barlow to get some meat at Maxwell's porch. He heard gun fire so he went to check it out. He got in a imaginary gun fight with Pat Garrett and his posse. He was shot in the shoulder, jaw and the top of the head. The bullet went a inch and a half back of his forehead and he survived and escaped. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It's quite apparent that Brushy and Morrisson saw one too many Westerns.
I actually went into Helen Rice Grinder's law office here in Conway and asked if she would talk about the Brushy Bill Roberts's case off the record.......She never called me ......All I wanted was her opinion.....
Brushy Bill's younger pictures, look identical to the known one of the Kid. Keep in mind the known picture of Billy the Kid, is slightly distorted and makes his face appear asymmetrical
Something that I don't think you mentioned was the fact that Brushy Bill said " If it wasn't for those black soldiers from Fort Stanton, we would have won the battle at the McSween house in Lincoln.
Exactly and there was no way for him to get the court martial records of Nathan dudley which was where that fact was discovered so he had to have been there!
@@mr31337 I mean yeah it's possible. Supposedly there was a book written in the 1920s called the saga of Billy the kid where it supposedly laid the stuff out. I haven't read it so I can't confirm it
Brushy Bill said he was born on Dec 31st, 1959, and I believe him. Here is some very simple reasoning as to why I know I'm correct. Brushy Bill had somewhere between one and two dozen men who testified and wrote about working with and knowing Brushy for many years. They all worked with him between the years 1885 and about 1896. They were all grown men in that 11 year period and so was Brushy. Unless, of course, all of them were 'full of crap' and had actually worked with a boy somewhere between the ages of 6 and 19. Think about it. The one niece in the family that said he was Ollie Roberts and was born in 1879 was either lying or mistaken. I don't think Brushy ever used the name ''Ollie'' to cover his tracks until after his cousin, Ollie Roberts, had passed away.
Brushy Bill was illiterate and could only speak very few words in Spanish. Billy was intelligent, could read and write and was fluent in Spanish. Theory dead.
There's proof from written records that there were black soldiers on the Murphy-Dolan side at the McSween house, but I've never heard anyone say that in modern times (yet Brushy Bill said that was the reason the regulators lost the McSween house battle).
William morrison read walter noble burns book in 1926 and also he read pat gArrets book so he knew there were black soldiers in lincoln thats how he schooled brushy bill who failed miserably before gov mavry he got pete maxwell name wrong called him sam , said katherine antrim was his aunt , couldnt name pat garrett, said he walked outta courthouse without firing a shot , he was just an imposter
Within minutes of the shooting the whole village of Fort Sumner was present at Pete Maxwell's Home. Billy’s body was NOT guarded all night and the lawmen did not keep people from viewing it. Billy’s body was taken by the local residents of Fort Sumner and was dressed and then was laid out on a carpenter’s bench where it was on public display all night! The following three statements below from eyewitnesses who were present when Billy the Kid was killed confirms this. It should also be known that no guy by the name of John Graham buried Billy the Kid's casket. It is known for a fact that the men who buried Billy’s casket were Jesus Silva, Vicente Otero, Saval Gutierez, and Antonio Savedra. It was Vicente Otero who dug the grave. Deputy John W. Poe…."Within a very short time after the shooting, quite a number of the native people had gathered around, some of them bewailing the death of their friend, while several women pleaded for permission to take charge of the body, which we allowed them to do. They carried it across the yard to a carpenter shop, where it was laid out on a workbench, the women placing lighted candles around it according to their ideas of properly conducting a 'wake' for the dead." Paco Anaya…."Don Pedro took the $25 and he and Don Manuel Abreu went to the latter's store and bought a beige suit, a shirt, an undershirt, shorts, and a pair of stockings. I, the writer, and my brother, Higinio Garcia, and several others of those that were there, dressed Billy with these clothes then we laid him on a high bed, one of those narrow ones, and we took him to the saloon where they held dances. There we watched, and on the next day we buried him." Jesus Silva...A few moments later I returned to the room, picked up the lifeless body of Billy and walking into a large hallway in the Maxwell home, laid his body on a long table. I there examined him again and ascertained without doubt he was dead. The body was then removed to an old carpenter shop where it was laid out. Of course an inquest had to be held. There was no justice of the peace at the old Fort, so we dispatched a messenger for Alejandro Seguro, justice of the peace at a little town 10 miles up the river. Seguro came and the inquest was held. Lie: George Coe never believed Billy the Kid was killed. Fact: The above statement is an absolute lie! George Coe himself said he KNEW Billy was dead in his autobiography “Frontier Fighter” on p. 228. Here is Coe’s statement exactly as it was written. "Just recently the newspapers carried a story to the effect that Billy the Kid was living in obscurity on a ranch near Odessa, Texas. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If the Kid were alive anywhere in the world, I should know it. There never was but one of his kind. A few years ago I decided to have his body removed to my place, and Miguel Otero came to see me, as he wanted the body taken to Santa Fe and given burial there. He went from my place to Fort Sumner and interviewed the commissioners there. He wrote me that neither he nor I could remove Billy's remains, as the commissioners said only a blood relation could have that done. So in a most remote spot at old Fort Sumner is the grave of Billy the Kid. It remained unmarked and unkept until 1932, when a headstone was erected through the efforts of Mr. Charles W. Foor.” Lie: Brushy Bill knew way too much about Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War to have read about it. He knew little details that were known to only a few people. Fact: Actually Brushy didn’t know much at all about the life of Billy the Kid. He not only made numerous mistakes in his interviews, but totally omitted many important facts, such as his time spent in the Silver City jail for hiding stolen laundry and the killing of “Windy” Francis Cahill in Camp Grant Arizona on August 17, 1877. I have listed Brushy’s numerous errors below. It is very easy to see that he made way too many mistakes to have really been there! There are enough holes in his story to ride a horse through! During his interview with New Mexico Governor Thomas Mabry in 1950 he choked up and forgot everything including Pat Garrett’s name! ." Fact: Aside from Brushy's fantasy gunfight with Garrett and his two deputies on the night Billy was killed, this is perhaps Brushy's biggest error. Frank Lobato definately did not bring him two horses, because he was not in Fort Sumner the night Billy was killed. This can be proven by Frank Lobato himself in a 1937 article called "Only One Man Living Who Saw Billy the Kid' in Both Life and Death" which appeared in the Clovis News Journal. Lobato said in this article that he was working on the old Pig Pen Ranch southwest of Melrose at the time of Billy's death, but that his mother, Marie Lobato was present and saw the body of Billy the Kid the morning it was laid to rest in the little cemetary down the valley. This proves he was definately not there and that more than likely Brushy completely made this up as well as the rest of his ridiculous claim. Brushy claimed that a man named Billy Barlow was actually shot by Pat Garrett instead of Billy the Kid. There is no proof that a Billy Barlow ever existed. There is a song called "Billy Barlow" that was written in 1834. Coincidence? You decide! In 1937 Jesus Silva was asked about the rumors that Billy the Kid might still be alive. Silva replied "That may be the rumor, my boy," he said, "but if there are dead men in this world, then Billy the Kid is among them. I know he is dead and as far as I know I am the only one yet living who saw him in death." Question: Why were there no photos taken of Billy's body? Answer: There were no photos taken of Billy's body simply because there was no photographer in Fort Sumner back then. Unless you have been there you may not realize just how isolated Fort Sumner is even today. Especially back then! The nearest photographer would have probably been in Las Vegas or Santa Fe. That would have been at least a three day ride for him just to get there. Question:When was Brushy Bill Roberts born? Answer: Brushy claimed many times according to Hico residents that he was born in 1868, which makes him too young to be Billy the Kid. Here is an exact quote from the booklet "Billy the The (alias Brushy Bill)The True Story" published by the Hico News Reveiw. "Brushy Bill had recounted often that his place of birth was Buffalo Gap in Taylor County, and the time was December 31, 1868, stating that he was born on the last day of the year. If correct, that would belie current tales being aired by daily newspapers linking his identity with that of a famous early-day character" 1868 is also the date which appeared on Brushy's original headstone. On the "improved" headstone his birthdate has been changed from 12/31/1868 to 12/31/1859. At the time of Brushy's death he was claiming to have been born 12/31/68, which would explain why this date was put on his original stone. Brushy's real birthdate is August 26, 1879, but of course no self respecting tourist would buy into that big of an age gap. Once Brushy got tired of claiming that he was a member of the James Gang, he then claimed to be Billy the Kid. At this time Brushy claimed that he was born in December of 1859 in Buffalo Gap, TX. There is one problem with this claim though. Buffalo Gap did not even exist at this time. In fact it was not founded until 1875! This can be confirmed by contacting the Buffalo Gap Historic Village at Po Box 818, Buffalo Gap, TX 79508. Brushy's niece Mrs. Geneva Roberts Pittmon however claimed in a letter to Billy the Kid Outlaw Gang founder Joe Bowlin that Brushy was born on August 26, 1879 and that she had the family Bible record to prove it. According to Geneva Pittmon Brushy Bill was her father Tom's brother. If that is correct, then Brushy Bill Roberts was only two years old when Billy the Kid was killed in 1881! Question: Was Brushy Bill Roberts literate? Answer: According to authors Frederick Bean and W.C. Jameson on p.204 of their book "The Return of the Outlaw Billy the Kid" "Evidence suggests Roberts possessed only rudimentary reading and writing skills. His wife, Melinda, wrote letters for him. Examples of his penmanship in the possession of the authors show a scrawl not unlike that made by a four-year-old child." Question: How many witnesses actually viewed Billy the Kid's body? Answer: There are at least 28 witnesses known to recorded history to have viewed Billy's body. They are: Pat Garrett, John W. Poe, Kip McKinney, Pete Maxwell, Dona Luz Maxwell, Paulita Maxwell, Deluvina Maxwell, Odila Maxwell, Don Manuel Abreau, Don Pablo Beaubien, Dona Rebecca Beaubien, Paco Anaya, Jesus Silva, Jose Silva, Vicente Otero, Sabal Gutierrez, Celsa Gutierrez, Marie Lobato, Lorenzo Jaramillo, Antonio Savedra, Milnor Rudolph, Charles Rudolph, Higinio Garcia, Henry Lola, Cruz Trujillo, Alejandra Segura, Manuela Bowdre, Tom O'Folliard's commom law wife, and Pedro Antonio Lucero. There is another NY Times newspaper article proving that Brushy Bill publicly and during a press conference claimed to be a member of the James Gang. Jesse James claimant J. Frank Dalton was proven to be a fake through DNA testing in the summer of 1995.

Respect for knowing your history too by acknowledging my comment :)
There's no photo of dead Billy the Kid because there wasn't a photographer in Ft. Sumner. The nearest was in Santa Fe, which would have been a long way by horse. I don't think Garrett would haul a rotting corpse to Santa Fe to have a photo taken. I don't think anyone would.
The story is quite fascinating. Being a South African and totally addicted to good western movies, I have done some research of all the great names of the old west. The exoneration of Billy The Kid in a modern review of circumstances etc. What would be more interesting though, is the whereabouts of Billy The kid at the time that Pat Garrett claimed that he shot Billy. What happened to him in all these years of his absence. Please elaborate more on that to support this story. Thank you for the research. Fourie.
You ask a good question, where or what was billy doing all those years. Well if you've heard of John Miller you would know. I believe Johns life story makes sense and that he is the real Billy.
According 2 Paralegal Investigator Will V Morrison & UTEP Professor Sonnichsen's Book, 'Alias Billy the Kid' (1955), Brushy said that he spent a couple months recuperating at various sheep ranches, before accepting his own reported 'death,' and spending the next 2.5 years just south of the Border in Mexico, working horses for a Yaqui Tribe😳👀.
@@rayjordan4988 Morrison and Sonnichsen only wrote what Roberts told them. They did no independent research, and there is not a single footnote to a source in the entire book. Roberts never had a lick of evidence, just a tall tale so elaborate that, if half of it were true, he would would have had more accomplishments than all the great historical figures of the old west combined. It's pure fantasy. Roberts left no written record, all his claims can be easily disproven with historical records. The research has been done by many, including the historian for the Marshals service, the National Archives records, all of it comes up empty, no matter which alias of Roberts you use. He is found in Census Documents (which are all easily found online) to be born in Arkansas and living in Texas his whole life. Notions that he took his cousin's identity are a cheap dodge to deny his actual whereabouts. To believe Brushy Bill, you have to accept his word for every detail, despite reams of actual, documented records that contradict every aspect.
Robert's earlobe on the right is attached, Billy's is not... Robert's chin has a cleft, Billy's is rounded. Right eye shape is way off. It's close but these are the reasons I say their not the same person.
Billy had a longer jaw and more of a pointed round chin, where Brushy Bill had a shorter jaw and more of a square chin this tells me they are two completely different people, bones such as the jaw bone do not change shape during age and this is one thing people fail to notice. My view Brushy Bill was no more than a Billy the Kid imposter and a massive attention seeker.
I'm willing to admit that it's possible Pat Garrett (who was way out of his jurisdiction) killed the wrong guy, and then tried to cover it up. But I'm gonna need more than just the word of an old man to convince me that he was Billy the Kid that being said, however, I wouldn't call Brushy Bill an "attention seeker". He at first denied he was Billy the Kid. And then when he said it was true, he didn't try to sign any book deals or get any paid speaking arrangements. He simply asked for a pardon from the governor. So while the physical evidence doesn't support his story, I have no reason to doubt his motives
I was thinking the same thing. The faces dont match up however Brushy Bill could've been seeking a pardon for a crime that he himself committed unrelated to Billy the kid. They both happen to seek pardons and I believe brushy bill is using the Billy the kid story to his advantage. [?] I'd like to see photos of Brushy Bill when he was young to compare.
What people tend to forget is Pat Garrett was considered to be just as much of a criminal as Billy the Kid before he became sheriff He used Billy the Kid to get famous If he would’ve never became sheriff and went after Billy the Kid no one today would’ve ever known Pat Garrett even existed I wouldn’t believe Pat Garrett if he told me the sky was blue💯
Increase in melanin. At least that is what I was reading. I suggest doing your own research, but it seems blue eye(specifically light blue eyes) seem to take on a grayish pigment when there is an increase in melanin. Again, do your own research, I am too fucking tired to create a thesis over a youtube comment... and PS, if I am wrong, please let me know so I don't spread disinformation
@@SandmanTheTerrible actually it's a decrease in melanin. My family has hereditary light blue eyes and they've all gotten lighter (turned either blue/grey or grey about the time we hit our 60s and 70s).
I hate to bust your bubble but this is a crock of dung. This is so full of untruths it is pathetic. I could spend the day refuting these claims. Look at the real photos, they look absolutely nothing alike, not even distant relatives.
Even today Fort Sumner is just a small village of less than a thousand people. In 1881 it was even less. There was probably not a camera within a hundred miles of Pete Maxwell's house. Not to mention it was July. The hottest month of the year. And no refrigeration to preserve the body. He would have been buried as quick as possible.
I believe Brushy Bill. He knew so much about not only the town, but the people, including their correct names that historians had gotten wrong due to typos. The morning after Garrett supposedly killed Billy, Billy's horse, saddle, and his entire kit were gone. Brushy Bill was terrified that if they did accept that he was actually Billy he would be immediately imprisoned. He and his attorney set up what was supposed to be a private meeting with the governor. But when they arrived, the governor escorted them into a huge room full of press, with State Marshalls lining the wall. Brushy Bill about passed out. He became so weak that they had to carry him out to a room off to the side. Once Brushy Bill had recovered the governor basically said he wasn't going to be a part of the foolishness, and they left. Brushy Bill passed away three weeks later. His attorney felt horrible because he had already conducted many recorded interviews and had questioned Brushy Bill extensively. He would repeat questions later to see if Bill's answers were consistent.
Bill Robert's was not Billy the Kid . He even claimed to be part of the James gang. And if you look when Robert's was born and then look at when Billy was born not even close. So stop the lie
We still have Billy the kids letters to Governor Lou Wallace. Yet I haven't heard of any writing comparisons to Billy the kid and brushy Bill Roberts. 🤔 I would still suspect that Bill Roberts still has some letters he wrote somewhere.
@Sonjingohan 0 not at all it's a well known fact that Brushy Bill was illiterate. He loved attention he once claimed to be Jesse James. Brushy Bill was 13 years old when Billy the kid was killed. This hoax all began when a lawyer wanted to profit off this bogus lie. People have been profiting of this ever since. I think we need to let Billy the kid and Brushy Bill rest.
@Sonjingohan 0 the kid had a crooked jaw Brushy Bill had more of square jaw. And how do we know about the scars, there's no pictures to verify it. As far as his friends goes nobody can really verify that they actually said that. I believe the kid was killed in fort sumter and is buried there. It would be great to know for sure but we will probably never know.
I read somewhere that the letters Billy the Kid sent to Gov. Wallace were dictated to others who penned them for him. The handwriting on the several letters are different. Thus, not Billy, who could actually have been illiterate, but knew how to speak well when required to.
I believe I met the Great granddaughter of Billy the Kid, Jody Reballard, in a hotel in Cheney, WA. Her facial looked liked Billy's look, she. had big wrists and small hands... just like Billy's! We shared some bread. I had her autograph her relationship and autograph on a Spokane pamphlet but later lost the pamphlet camping somewhere in IA. She looked like Billy, period. I truly believe that I met the Great granddaughter of the one Billy the Kid .
Whether Garrett shot Billy or Brushy was Billy are two different questions. Let's assume Garrett didn't kill Billy. Brushy looked nothing like Billy and saying 93% certainty means nothing since the pics simply don't match up. View the pics yourself and you don't need software to know.
Compare the DNA of Billy the Kid's mother Kathryn McCarty who is buried in Silver City Kansas to the DNA of Billy the Kid at Fort Sumner that should be enough.
Silver City is in New Mexico, but you are absolutely correct about the DNA. It's so simple. Also, Brushy Bill was buried in Hamilton, TX, which would prove it definitively. I think there would be a lot more opposition to this from some people here in New Mexico than there would be from anybody in Texas. There's descendants of people involved in the Lincoln County Wars who could be embarrassed.
The fact that they don't do this maybe should signal to some people that this claim is really not worth taking seriously. i.e. digging up and disturbing the dead to ratify one man's bid for attention. Also, I believe mitochondrial DNA is very difficult to extract from old bones, but I'm not 100 on that. I'd rather see more time spent on posthumously pardoning Billy.
This is great! Well done, man. Saddens me to think of that poor guy being hunted and murdered. Especially at such a young age. Would love to hear your opinion about Jack the Ripper. Bruce Robinson made some deeply disturbing realizations about that guy. Thanks for this! When I saw that picture of the older Billy? Definitely feels right. I hope he did survive. RIP Kid.
Honestly I have studied billy the kid slot bug not brushy bills story as much , but brushy bill was not the only one claimingIng to be billy , but I agree never believe the main stream narrative with out doubting
R u blind,Roberts looks absolutely nothing like W.H.BONNEY, BRUSHY had a brother that lived in white oaks new Mexico, he had to have known the kid and in turn told his brother all about it all.

I think Pat Garrett let Billy go, with an understanding that he would leave & not commit anymore crimes & then started telling the lie that he & billy had already agreed upon

Take it easy man! :) (or woman)
@@loosecannonjack you're welcome would you consider doing videos on the similar theories such as Butch & Sundance survived, or Jesse James faked his death?
My only thoughts on this, is Billy would have to have had the love of a “pal” for Pat Garret to abandon New Mexico after his supposed death. He could’ve brought personal disaster on Garret by riding through town in front of everyone on his way out of the state!
Love the video, thanks for the post! However, I find it difficult to believe as bold and well known as Billy was that he would voluntarily vanish into obscurity. But, anything is possible.
I don't really think Garrett killed the kid but I also don't think Brushy was Billy. Brushy's own family says it's not true, not to mention they have photo's of a young Billy and young Brushy and they don't even resemble each other. Also, they were not the same age. Brushy has a record you can follow.
Another point if similarity was the scars that Brushy Bill had. He is said to have had all of the same scars that Billy the Kid got in his early outlaw years. All of the evidence put together is overwhelming.
Except for the fact that there IS no record of Billy the Kid having all the scars claimed. It's a wholly fabricated argument made up by Brushy or by Morrison. In fact, no evidence exists that Brushy had any scars either. No photos, no medical records, nada. It's an open question as to what, if anything, Morrison fabricated, but Brushy left us no written record of any kind. Other than Morrison's claims, there is no way to know what Brushy actually said to him.
For years i wanted to believe in the romantic robinhoodesq billy story that he survived. As time goes on though, i do believe that Pat did indeed kill Billy. I think Billy thought that he could be protected in Fort Sumter in that he spoke fluent spanish, and had friends there that would protect and hide him. Billy had a chance to get out of New Mexico, but wouldn't leave.
Was going to comment as been studying this subject for about 28 years but it would be like talking to a flat earther. Respectfully you haven’t done enough research .
If flat earthers are so crazy, why does the bible constantly refer to the four corners of the earth? A round earth cant have four corners. So I guess youre the real dumbass huh.
I totally agree....garrett shot that kid plain and simple... conspiracy theories are even alive in the eighteen hundreds imagine that by the way elvis works down the street here I saw him and I'll swear to it LOL
That's horseshit study using FBI photo recognition techniques at the University of Texas over to claim Brushy and Billy as a match from 1990. You don't need photo scanning and computers. Just look at the pictures. Brushy and Billy both have detached ears, but the mouth, jaw, chin and eyes are different.
PLEASE DON'T LIE JUS TELL THE TRUTH- BRUSHY LOOKS NOTHING LIKE BONNEY EVEN AFTER 50YRS LATER....POE WROTE THAT IT WAS W.H.BONNEY AND TOLD IT HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED BONNEY WAS KILLED IN THE DARK OTHERWISE THE KID WOULD'VE SHOT FIRST
I would like to add: Why would Pat Garrett need someone to identify Billy after he shot him? Pat had arrested him in 1881 ( later to escape killing 2 guards). So Pat should be very aware of how Billy looked and should be able to identify him.
I don't think he needed them to identify "Billy" it could have been more of a "yes he's deceased" type thing. Like witnesses to the supposed crime. It would be easier to identify Brushy Bill as Billy the Kid if we had autopsy pics(the gunshot wounds, old n new)would be good identifier s. (I know, autopsy photos wouldn't have been taken)
Idk if you all know this, but there's an obituary about Billy, from the time he "died". It says that "Billy the Kid grew a beard and stained his skin brown, to disguise himself as a Mexican". And another witness claimed that the body had brown skin. This makes sense, as Brushy said it was his Hispanic friend who got shot at Maxell's
Jack you rock. Good presentation and I find your version to be more believable then Pat Garrets. The sheriffs back then especially in New Mexico were pretty much criminals themselves. Case closed. I remember hearing about Billy seeking immunity from the governor of New Mexico while he was still alive and he was never taken seriously by those in power that had nothing to gain from it.
I have no way to say for a fact that Brushy Bill is or is not Billy the Kid. BIlly was born William Henry Roberts. His father was killed in the Civil War, and then his mother died when he was three. He was then adopted by Catherine Bonney. That's why he was called Billy Bonney. It's interesting that Brushy BIll's name was also William Henry Roberts. The two deputies that were with Pat Garrett said years later that Pat did not shoot Billy. They said he shot a man who looked nothing like Billy. They said the man shot by Pat had black hair, a mustache, and was possibly Hispanic. They said it wasn't the first time Pat shot a man in the dark. That was how he also shot Dave.
Good video but you missed one fact Billy the kid was born in 1859 as for Brushy Bill Roberts was born in 1879. Billy the kids alleged death was in 1881 Brushy Bill would've have only been 2 years old at the time which makes it almost impossible for him to be Billy The Kid. No disrespect intended I just thought I'd point that out.
ive always believd brushy bill was billy lol- no way is bily going out the way garret , pat was hif friend , so i dunno who shot, but like u said, wheres the pictures? aint none lol
I personally don't see a big difference. Im 50/50 on the escape story. Either way a person believes, there are a lot more questions than answers. I don't have a problem with the no photograph thing. I dont believe the facial recognition is reliable. I do think its out of character for someone that's a number 1 outlaw, being hunted, nearly escaping death a few days before, to clumsily walk past 2 unknown people into a dark room asking who they were. Its really weird for someone on extremely high alert who was notorious for outsmarting captors and getting away to be so unconcerned.
Yes , I believe U ... that Billy survived & was Brushy Bill was indeed Billy the Kid . In fact , several yrs. ago before I got an actual job @ a restaurant ; I would houseclean old lady's houses . She kept on going on & on that I looked like her Dear Beloved Grandmother ( or that I resembled her quite a bit !!! ) . And , @ 1st I didn't believe her . But then she described her Grandmother as if she was describing me !!! And , we do look similar !!! :O ( I mean I'm not Hispanic or Spanish , not in this life . I believe I was in another life , but that's an entirely different story . ) but , ya know how when U'r Gut instinct tells ya something or someone is telling U the truth ? ( It was like that ) . I just had a really big feeling / s , that the Lady that I cleaned her house that day was telling Me the truth . That Billy the Kid had survived being gunned down by Garret , & that I look like her Beloved Grandmother Pauletta . ( Billy's wife , whom he married secretly . )
If what you say is true you should reply to other people's posts with the name of the old lady her location and any of her children's names so people can investigate your or rather her claim. Personally I don't belive Billy was killed by Pat Garet, but don't know what subsequently haprnt to him. Your story does warent further investigation.
It cant be that hard to believe that Pat might save him and collect his reward at the same time.
Lam man did no get the bounty reward on someone that was just there job.
I think the stories that Garrett was friends with Billy were an exaggeration
It was a $500 reward. Pat Garrett went to Santa Fe to collect the reward
That's why they killed Pat Garrett.

Garrett's don't kill friends
This is the story I've heard in all my research. It was Billy (William Bonney) the Kids friend, that Garrett actually killed.
He also had all the same scars. Also, when he went back and spoke with people that were still alive from that time, he answered their questions that only Billy would know.
but wouldn't they have been even older than him? Their minds might not have been all there
He also offered up photos of himself at a young age. Problem is...they aren't the same guy in the famous authentic photo of the kid. Brushy Bill was a crazy old man. Nothing more.
If he answered questions that only Billy the kid would know, then how would the people know if the answers were correct?
@@JesusGarcia-cs9wl the analysis you're referring to took place in 1989, and it was using a custom made computer program not approved for use by law enforcement, but he still scored a 78% (42nd out of 150 (1st out of 150 would be 100%)).
That would have been for legal purposes. He'd have needed witnesses to back up his account.
It was stated that the room was too dark for Pat to see Billy, but he thought it was Billy based on the sounds of his whispering

Also if you look close Billy's underneath the color of his eyes there is white... like Lauren Bacall's used to be when he had his eyes open you can actually see white under there...Brushy bill in his early picture you can't see any white at all under his colored part of his eyes

Hi. I found a good movie called OLD HENRY which tells quite a tale. It is just a story, but a good movie. Billy the kid????
Brushy Bill Robert's is not Billy the kid he's just a wannabe and imposter who obviously hero worshiped Billy the kid they look nothing alike

I want to say that Governor Bill Richardson pardoned the Kid a few years back. They wanted to exhume the remains but it might take away from the Legend and grave site site at Ft. Sumner.
Billy surviving is a valid thgeory, however he was NOT Brushy Bill. We know this because:
-Brushy Bill did not know which side Billy fought on in the Lincoln County War.
Also, Brushy had attached earlobes and Billy had detached earlobes so they can’t be the same person.

Thumbs up. Billy the Kid got a bad wrap. I've always wondered what would become of Billy if Tunstall hadn't been murdered.
Wouldntve become the legend that he is.
Doesnt make sense for the simple fact of, all the sudden, Billy just decided, at the young age he was, as an outlaw, to lay low enough after that to never be heard of again? More then likely, if he had survived, that would not have been the last you heard of him!

Because he faked his death
Wouldn't you disappear to; and I think Billy learned his lesson that his luck wouldn't last forever. He also lost his gang members as well so .......
Also a good possibility that he and the Sheriff reached an agreement and the Sheriff was paid off by Billy under the condition Billy leave town.
It was a lot easier to disappear back in those days out west than it is today

If he was illiterate he couldn’t have found out so much information! He didn’t have RUclips back then
They also argued that billy was right handed while brushy was left.
Billy the kid was ambidextrous also
And an obituary at the time also mentioned Billy's "stained skin"

Brushy Bill Roberts was born August 1879. Billy the Kid was killed July 1881. Bill Roberts was age 2 at the time of Billy the Kid's death

Within minutes of the shooting the whole village of Fort Sumner was
present at Pete Maxwell's Home. Billy’s body was NOT guarded all night and the lawmen did not keep people from viewing it. Billy’s body was taken by the local residents of Fort Sumner and was dressed and then was laid out on a
carpenter’s bench where it was on public display all night! The following three statements below from eyewitnesses who were present when Billy the Kid was killed confirms this. It should also be known that no guy by the name of John
Graham buried Billy the Kid's casket. It is known for a fact that the men who buried Billy’s casket were Jesus Silva,
Vicente Otero, Saval Gutierez, and Antonio Savedra. It was Vicente Otero who dug the grave.
Deputy John W. Poe…."Within a very short time after the shooting, quite a number of the native people had gathered around, some of them bewailing the death of their friend, while several women pleaded for permission to take charge of the body, which we allowed them to do. They carried it across the yard to a carpenter shop, where it was laid out on a workbench, the women placing lighted candles around it according to their ideas of properly conducting a 'wake' for the dead."
Paco Anaya…."Don Pedro took the $25 and he and Don Manuel Abreu went to the latter's store and bought a beige suit, a shirt, an undershirt, shorts, and a pair of stockings. I, the writer, and my brother, Higinio Garcia, and several others of those that were there, dressed Billy with these clothes then we laid him on a high bed, one of those narrow ones, and we took him to the saloon where they held dances. There we watched, and on the next day we buried him."
Jesus Silva...A few moments later I returned to the room, picked up the lifeless body of Billy and walking into a large hallway in the Maxwell home, laid his body on a long table.
Charles W. Foor.”
Lie: Brushy Bill knew way too much about Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War to have read about it.
During his interview with New Mexico Governor Thomas Mabry in 1950 he choked up and forgot everything including Pat Garrett’s name! ."
Fact: Aside from Brushy's fantasy gunfight with Garrett and his two deputies on the night Billy was killed, this is perhaps Brushy's biggest error.
I know he is
dead and as far as I know I am the only one yet living who saw him in death."
Question: Why were there no photos taken of Billy's body?
His wife, Melinda, wrote
letters for him. Examples of his penmanship in the possession of the authors show a scrawl not unlike that made by a four-year-old child."
Question: How many witnesses actually viewed Billy the Kid's body?
Answer: There are at least 28 witnesses known to recorded history to have viewed Billy's body. They are: Pat Garrett, John W. Poe, Kip McKinney, Pete Maxwell, Dona Luz Maxwell, Paulita Maxwell, Deluvina Maxwell, Odila Maxwell, Don Manuel Abreau, Don Pablo Beaubien, Dona Rebecca Beaubien, Paco Anaya, Jesus Silva, Jose Silva, Vicente Otero, Sabal Gutierrez, Celsa Gutierrez, Marie Lobato, Lorenzo Jaramillo, Antonio Savedra, Milnor Rudolph, Charles Rudolph, Higinio Garcia, Henry Lola, Cruz Trujillo, Alejandra Segura, Manuela Bowdre, Tom O'Folliard's commom law wife, and Pedro Antonio Lucero.
There is another NY Times newspaper article proving that Brushy Bill publicly and during a press conference claimed to be a member of the James Gang. Jesse James claimant J. Frank Dalton was proven to be a fake through DNA testing in the summer of 1995.

@@ermano58 I just got notified now that you commented, I must look crazy by the length of the comment I made lol, but thank you, I'm just passionate about History especially outlaws of America etc and more so Iam passionate about truth and facts.
It's close but these are the reasons I say their not the same person.
not to mention Billy wasnt hispanic looking lol
In addition, Roberts had allegedly claimed to be a member of Jesse James's gang, before deciding to come out as the authentic Billy the Kid.
Yea that part id seem very sketchy.
I already debunked this ruclips.net/video/lQYrXql6dCc/видео.html
Brushy bill also claimed to be frank james and grat dalton who was killed in cofeeville just a 70 year old phony looking for his 15 mins
But I'm gonna need more than just the word of an old man to convince me that he was Billy the Kid
that being said, however, I wouldn't call Brushy Bill an "attention seeker". He at first denied he was Billy the Kid. And then when he said it was true, he didn't try to sign any book deals or get any paid speaking arrangements. He simply asked for a pardon from the governor. So while the physical evidence doesn't support his story, I have no reason to doubt his motives
Fair enough :) Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best :)
I think he was Billy The Kid i have researched for many years on this
@@garyk8558 I'd like to believe he was, but I've never seen any evidence that would stand up in a court of law
4:18 "93% match on the faecal recognition"
I wonder what precent the fecal recognition was?
What people tend to forget is Pat Garrett was considered to be just as much of a criminal as Billy the Kid before he became sheriff He used Billy the Kid to get famous If he would’ve never became sheriff and went after Billy the Kid no one today would’ve ever known Pat Garrett even existed I wouldn’t believe Pat Garrett if he told me the sky was blue💯
"He had the same color eyes.." Can you provide any proof of this? Because I've read that Brushy Bill had grey eyes and Billy had blue.
As a young man in my 20s I had very blue eyes now in my 40s they look more grey than blue
@@tophatter100 Funny. My eye color is grey/green and has not changed at all since childhood. I am nearing 60.
Hi and thank you for your video. Im John im 71 I have definative proof Brushy Bill was in fact the kid
We still have Billy the kids letters to Governor Lou Wallace. Yet I haven't heard of any writing comparisons to Billy the kid and brushy Bill Roberts. 🤔 I would still suspect that Bill Roberts still has some letters he wrote somewhere.
Brushy Bill was illiterate. This theory is ridiculous.
@Sonjingohan 0 it's a fact Brushy Bill Roberts was illiterate
Billy does not have any confirmed children?
RIP Kid.
My family knew Brushy Bill and I'd like to thank you for keeping this story alive
Honestly I have studied billy the kid slot bug not brushy bills story as much , but brushy bill was not the only one claimingIng to be billy , but I agree never believe the main stream narrative with out doubting
you talk about proof//evidence but produce absolutlely none. This is 100000% hearsay
How did he manage to escape and live the rest of his life?
Facial recognition is not admissible as evidence to identify a defendant in the court of law in the US
but it can get you blackbooked in casinos.
Garrett killed the wrong man. As technology prevails; so does history
R u blind,Roberts looks absolutely nothing like W.H.BONNEY, BRUSHY had a brother that lived in white oaks new Mexico, he had to have known the kid and in turn told his brother all about it all.
Bullshit bill roberts was born 1879 billy was killed 1881 making bullshit bill 2 years old , thats enough right there BUT , bullshit bill said katherine antrim was his aunt not his mother ,he called pete maxwell “ sam “ , couldnt name deluvina maxwell, said he walked outta courthouse without firing a shot , couldnt name pat garrett, kept calling billy the kid “ him “ BAHAHAHAHAHA imposter phony BAHAHAHAHA
I think Pat Garrett let Billy go, with an understanding that he would leave & not commit anymore crimes & then started telling the lie that he & billy had already agreed upon
why would he? there was a reward out for Billy

Jesse was not shot by Bob Ford Bob Ford shot the man that was living in Jessie's rent house in st.joe Missouri
My only thoughts on this, is Billy would have to have had the love of a “pal” for Pat Garret to abandon New Mexico after his supposed death. He could’ve brought personal disaster on Garret by riding through town in front of everyone on his way out of the state!
Was the facial recognition done on the Reversed photo, ow corrected? Makes a difference.
I know what you mean. Good point.
He could’ve bee the same guy. I can see either story being true. Does it matter?
Those death photos wasn't difficult to look @ at all. Bonnie & Clyde got it MUCH worse.
"You ask me if I have scars. Yes sir, I have my scars."
Young Guns 2, based on Brushy Bill's false claims.
Was going to comment?...news flash, you did comment.
If flat earthers are so crazy, why does the bible constantly refer to the four corners of the earth? A round earth cant have four corners. So I guess youre the real dumbass huh.
I agree with you 1000 percent they won't admit it cause history would be wrong...
They did facial recognition on 100 people, 45 people had a higher match than Brushy Bill
That is not remotely conclusive.
Look up John miller/billy the kid
Great Story,...NO PICTURES TO Prove What Saying, Even In 1950 !!!!
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Billy the Kid is dead
Good job, gavin.
I totally agree....garrett shot that kid plain and simple... conspiracy theories are even alive in the eighteen hundreds imagine that by the way elvis works down the street here I saw him and I'll swear to it LOL
Solid research Gavin, I tip my hat to you for your perseverance and cunning work
That's horseshit study using FBI photo recognition techniques at the University of Texas over to claim Brushy and Billy as a match from 1990.
Corroborative evidence, duh
The comment on *"Black and White Thinking" is the 🔑 to everything that's the focal point in the USA today,* and yesterday.
Very well said.
I 100% believe Brushy Bill is Billy Bonney. ❤
I BELIEVE BRUSHY BILL ROBERTS WAS TELLING THE TRUTH !!! 😊😎✝️💯
Are we just going to forget the fact that he looks nothing like Billy the kid.....his eyes are totally different.
( Billy's wife , whom he married secretly . )
