The one of Billy in cowboy garb is flipped! The rifle is a Winchester, which has the loading gate on the right side, but the Winchester in Billy's hand has the loading gate on the left side which means the picture has been flipped, it is a mirror image and not a picture. Matching other pictures only works if they are also flipped.
If the other photo is a tin type it’s reversed as well. Any camera original tin type is a reverse lateral image, same thing as a mirror image. The photographic process caused this in tin types. Billy was indeed wrongly accessed as left handed because of the reversed image. Kind of amazing that it went unnoticed for so many years in one of the most famous and widely viewed photos in history.
@@scottarivett496 If you are correct, then why are all the other old photographs correct, ie loading gates on the correct side, peace makers not backward?
Not all antique photographs are tintypes. If it’s a paper photograph it was made with a negative and corrected when printing … just like all negative / positive processes.
I've been a portrait artist for nearly 30 years & have looked at tons of bad photos to try to get a decent likeness of people, this doesn't make me a forensics expert in any way, I've just had a bit of experience looking at bad photography, I also understand that people can look slightly different in photos depending on several factors, lighting, pose, length of time between photos, etc...that being said, I'm not seeing much resemblance between the two people in these photos at all other than the pose...I think the examiner, while no doubt having extensive experience in her field, was just ready to believe this photo was of the same person & let her imagination take over...I don't think this is the same person...interesting old photo, but doesn't match in my opinion...
The pose is the same coz most tintype poses are like that. Basically a rod up the back. You can see the feet of the post behind both subjects feet. It kept them still during the long exposure time needed for tintype.
As a photographer and professional studio portrait photographer for years, i have to say you pose your subject. The pose is most likely going to be photographers choice not billys or whoever that is. If it is billy and as it says the same photographer then that makes sense for the similar pose.
It's all in the eyebrows. Billy had has some dark and really rocking eyebrows that stand out even on the little tin type. If you can't see the eyebrows, it's probably not him.

@Victor Bastos no, he didn’t have Chinese cut eyes. When his photo was taken, it was outside in front of the bar and it was windy. He was squinting his eyes. Look at the right lapel on his vest and his wild rag. The lapel is turned up and the wild rag is blurry from movement.
These are interesting. There are some similarities but the ears are very different and the real Billy’s boots are smaller in size and Billy’s hands look smaller. Cool photo, I love this stuff, and I’m no expert but I don’t personally believe it’s Bonney. Especially looking at the ears, they look a lot different.
The only things that make it possible are that the ring is on the same finger and the teeth are slightly protruding. The problem for me is that Billy was always skinny and did not wear rumpled, mature clothing. This person is a little "dumpy." Billy was a slender, wiry reed of a kid, with an attitude.
I think it has already been established that Billy the kid was in fact right handed. The photo of him posing with the rifle is reversed, therefore the ring on the finger would be on the opposite hand and If the photos were compared as shown nothing would line up.
It was known back in the 1960s (some WHBonney eyewitnesses were still alive back then and a lot of his history has been lost;) that Billy enjoyed having his photo taken. There are quite a few floating around out there and likely more handed-down treasures still to be discovered. It's really fun to see them surface. However, in this case, I disagree that the teeth are the same. Billy's front teeth protruded enough that he couldn't close his mouth without either the lip sticking out noticably or part of the front tooth showing. That isn't definitive in this photo. Even though his ears do stick out, his right ear is not the same shape. But there is a family resemblance. I think it's very possible that this is Joe. His hair was darker than Billy's. His gaze is often one of resignation. I've seen it before in photos up for authentication. If somebody comes across photos with similarities to Billy but different enough that "experts" deny verification, bear in mind that it could be Joe. He was a bit ore even featured. Agree on all points. Let us not forget also that the photo with guns is a reversed image, giving rise to the myth that the Kid was left-handed. @@antoniograncino3506 Wrong, Winchester did make a few left handed 1871s to special order, so if this is a left handed 1871 the question is how did Billy get it?

The photograph on the right of the authenticated Billy the Kid tintype shows him holding the Winchester rifle in his right hand and his Colt thunderer pistol on his left hip but this is not true because the tintype was reversed which means that Billy is holding the rifle in his left hand which means that he was right handed. Therefore this means that the gamblers ring that Billy wore was technically on his left hand. There is no indication that the know picture was taken with a stand and so shows Bonny's natural stance.

Billy the kid is my favorite from the old West, when I was a kid myself I always wanted to be Billy the kid and I always played like I was him and then when I got older I always check out evey video about Billy, I'm just fascinated with Billy the kid just because I feel like he really never wanted to be an outlaw but was forced into it by circumstances beyond his fault but I believe he became very good with a gun and he deserves to be well known anyway I wish they could make a movie about Billy that uses an actor that looks very much like him sense they know what he looked like that would be cool and also make the movie as true to the real story as possible.
You never seen young guns or young guns 2? There's no getting better than that. Out dated or not by today's younger generations standards those 2 movies are pretty accurate and Emilio Estaves plays the best Billy the kid by far. If you never watched them movies check them out.

Though the two photos do indeed look different I think the photo could very well be authentic. It looks to me like Henry McCarthy, aka William Bonny, aka Billy the Kid was three or four years younger. Neat!!

And his girl friends dresses he would pick them out his self. Hats . Jewelry even Pat Garret got nice wedding gifts for his home and his kids .Billy was loved the Sam by all kids Billy would by big sacks of candy give kids hadfulls .he was a loved by many.👍💔
I can see it. If you study the cheek bones, nose, teeth, ears, body type etc., I think they match up well. I think he's wearing the same ring and boots in both photos and is posing in a very similar matter. The famous authenticated tintype is a bit distorted and I think Billy was squinting in the famous photo. In fact, everyone that knew Billy basically said that the tintype was him, but didn't really capture his features or didn't really look like him.
in the one posing with his rifle, he looks like if he just dismounted off a many hours or days riding with little sleep too btw, but maybe he was just barely awaken and still on a hangover, making him look as if stoned. Just plastered face.
they did look very alike could have been the kid just before the Lincoln co war started John Tunstall probley bout him the suit to smarting him up if he wasn't doing ranch work maybe he was working in the store and his mouth is closed but u can see the fela is also buck toothed the guy who said about his clothes date from 1880s to 1890s is he sure I no billy was killed in 1881 it could be if so it will be the 3rd photo of the kid they said the one were he playing croket wasn't him to but it got authenticated exciting times
Maybe it's him, maybe not. One forensic artist says it's him, but another could argue the opposite. There's a faint resemblance but not enough to make it a definite Billy, like the famous one.
Yeah I think it is go back and look at the mouth. But the shitty part is ,we'll never know.i wish someone would hurry up and invent the time machine. Someone could go back in time find billy and ask him if this is him. And also warn him of Pat's dirty ambush.
Unbelievable!! Every picture is the kid. Does anyone have any integrity, money is the only reason every picture is the kid. And she sacrificed her integrity for money. This picture is NOT THE KID, not in any shape or form
Of all the "pics" I've seen of The Kid, this one looks the most compelling. He looks about 14-15 here. Same chin, ears, crooked eyes, ring on finger, slanted shoulders and wide mid-section. If you look at the full pic you'll see even his feet are positioned the same. People forget the authenticated pic is distorted. Of course comparing the dentition is a reach. The only thing I can figure she is talking about is Billy had 2 protruding front teeth and the picture in question looks like his upper lip is pushed out a bit. But would I go all-in on it without prominence? Nope. I am about 65% convinced it's him.
Billy looks drunk in the tintype so the eyes won't match. The only match is the ears are similar. Plain to see Billy's tintype has a longer face but age difference could explain that, but NOT to my satisfaction. This is not Billy the Kid, and I question these so-called experts...
The expert has EYES? TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Just look at the eyes for starters, completely different. The Whole face is different, the body...the pose. This is silly.
The sky is raining Billy the Kid photos. How did Billy ever have time to be a gunslinger; he spent all his waking hours in a photo studio. These two people, Billy and the lad in the DeAragon image look nothing alike. And the teeth business -- is Lois Gibson pulling our leg? -- the DeAragon lad's teeth are not visible.
Everyone always looks at the wrong and most obvious thing; the face! Look at the relaxed posture of his HANDS! His left thumb has a different "v" angle between the knuckle and tip. This never changes and seen clearly at 1:46. This other fella is NOT the Kid!
How can this be? This isn’t Billy in fact it’s a post Morton photo of someone else, you can even see the base of the stand by his feet that they would use in post-mortem photos where a steel rod would be attached to the base this would help in keeping the body in an upright position also pay attention to the positioning of his and Billy’s feet as their feet are pointing outwards which would also help in stabilising the body you’ll see this in other post-mortem photos from the 1800’s. Not to forget the rigger-mortise obviously would have set in making the body stiff which is something else that would help in stabilising the body, even the famous photo of Billy standing with his rifle is a post-mortem photo of Billy’s body after Garrett killed him, you can see part of base by his left foot also look at Billy’s lifeless face and his missing trigger finger that would have been cut off from the middle knuckle of his trigger finger and placed in a jar with preserving fluid it’s then sold for a lot of money and this would only happen to outlaws that were well known outlaws like Billy also they have obviously positioned Billy’s finger to hide that it’s been cut off.
This makes sense to me but people are saying the photo is reversed. This would then make Billy left handed while people are arguing that he was right handed.
I read that’s a myth that you can’t pose a corpse in rigor mortis and the pose stand can’t support a person’s body weight. The stands were only used to help the person stand still in order to get a good photo during the long shutter exposures that could last over a minute. Post mortem photos weren’t taken of a body standing up like that. But I agree that I don’t believe these are the same people. The ears are a completely different shape.
I think they did use the stand to help keep a live person still but they were mainly used in post-mortem photos this is why their feet point outwards @@lassesuurmunne8340
I also have to say that in all of my years being interested in the 1800's American West I've never heard of a gunfighter getting their trigger finger cut off. The closest I've read about is Jack Slade who supposedly cut off Jules ear and kept it as a trophy. It doesn't mean it didn't happen but I'd like to see more evidence of it. Anyone?
Get all the pics side by side and I'll prove to you the picture of the village people will look closer to the real pic. Pics coming along all of a sudden are not even close.

Its a reverse tin type aswell you complete tit
If your a fugitive you wouldn’t want your picture plastered all over New Mexico would you. Hence why it’s so hard to find a picture of billy the kid,and who’s to say that the tin lid picture is actually billy the kid
Close resemblance but nope. Ridiculous the they’re saying the forensic expert says all features match even the teeth ???--The Subject in the supposed photo has his mouth closed- can’t see the teeth!!!!!
nope not billy the kid. face doesn't match at all.
Ye it doas i think its him
It doesn't match shit . It seems all these pictures that no one found for 140 years are coming outta the wood work . I wonder if 5 million and 2 million for the two only known pictures of Billy had Any thing to do with that?
Billy the kid legend lives on
Theres actually 2 REAL pictures of billy in existence with provenance now. The famous one and the now the one of him playing cards with richard brewer, fred Waite, and Henry Newton Brown
I've never seen the picture of him playing cards. Where do I find that? Thanks for your time.
@@williejohnkristofferson2898 search ”Billy the kid playing cards” on the internet and you Will find it
The card playing photo has no provenance so it isn’t authenticated. Just speculation.
I think that's not him but there is another picture of him tho where he is playing croket with Sally chisim and some of the other regulators.
That croquet picture was appraised at 5million dollars. That's pretty authenticated to me.I'm convinced.
@@R.E.M.954 Most Billy savants dispute the idea that the croquet kid is Billy. Also, the purported New Mexico location of the tintype has since been debunked. Not surprisingly, the image never sold.
Yep, Billy the Kid sometimes went around disguised as a Mexican of completely different appearance from himself.
All Billy was doing was taking up for his employer ( he was eventually assassinated ) who was being pushed around by the corrupt leaders of the area
Doing that very thing, right now. Some day on Netflix, fingers crossed.
You never seen young guns or young guns 2? There's no getting better than that. Out dated or not by today's younger generations standards those 2 movies are pretty accurate and Emilio Estaves plays the best Billy the kid by far. If you never watched them movies check them out.
@@iamheandheisinorsemen2605 yes i have seen those movies and they are good but emelio Estevez doesn't really look like the picture of the real Billy the Kid on the tin type of him in my opinion id like to see an actor that looks like him even if he's not a well known actor like emelio Estevez although i did luke him un the movie young guns.
@@jimmyjennings4089 Why do you hate punctuation?
i'll give him a quarter for that authentic picture of somebody from the old west, but not billy the kid!
Have these people heard of the word provenance?!?!
It would be interesting to see a comparison of his photo to a photo of Brushy Bill.
It's already been done, some people say yes - I say no. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the amagintion
Same teeth?? you can't even see the other guys teeth. the more preposterous claims like this I'm subjected to.....the more faith I lose in "facial recognition" But hey, can't ignore that pinky ring...What a load of crap.
One is clearly Brushy Bill Roberts and the other is Billy The Kid.
Exactly!
Lol
H@@aa
Wiliam H Roberts is Billy the Kid and Brushy Bill Roberts. The one and the same. Burried in Hico Texas.
@@RayLawrenceJrMUSIC a fake and fraud. Considering Robert’s was born in 1879. Must have been three when he was shot. 🤣🤣🤣
They have Billy the Kid's Winchester picture so horizontally stretched out it makes him look like he's 300 lbs. He looks more like Billy the Pig and not the Kid.
Wrote my senior paper on the kid....very interesting pic...thanx
She says that you can tell by the teeth, but in the second photo his mouth is closed.
Though the two photos do indeed look different I think the photo could very well be authentic. It looks to me like Henry McCarthy, aka William Bonny, aka Billy the Kid was three or four years younger. Neat!!
Oh bullshit.
They look nothing alike thats not the same person. The shape of the jaw line the cheeks are fuller come on i could see the differences off the bat it doesn't take an expert to realize thats not Billy!!!🤦♂️
Billy was the very first Instagrammer, using a 8x10 large format chamber camera
Those 2 pics are not of the same person. Experts my aahh ,eye
Is he gonna sell it? Nope. Guess why - nobody would buy it. If that's Billy the Kid, I'm Wyatt Earl.
They look nothing alike🤷🏻♂️
There's 2 or 3 pics of Billy now.
There's only 2 pictures and the 2nd one is of Billy with Charlie on his wedding day playing Croke on Tunsteels property.
TRU MAN there’s another clear match, but no provenance
Wow. ❤
That tinny town photo guys took any thing that come along . People of Lincoln County say Billy was not cheap .he bout his friends nice gifts all the time.

My dad was good friends with Slim Garrett, Pat Garrett's nephew. We used to shoot trap together in Avenal, Calif.
Finding authentic photos of Billy the Kidd just about rivals the finding of people who written the plays of Shakespeare.
Bigfoot took those pictures and wrote those plays.
and the ones coming up with "lost but found" secret and hidden plays of Will, that of course nobody knew about, not even himself
Holly Crap not even close. Especially when you put them side by side. Sorry folks but no cigar for you.....
That’s not Billy the kid, that’s Hugh Mungus from 1969
Your absolutely correct. That is definitely old Hugh. I would recognize him anywhere.
they did look very alike could have been the kid just before the Lincoln co war started John Tunstall probley bout him the suit to smarting him up if he wasn't doing ranch work maybe he was working in the store and his mouth is closed but u can see the fela is also buck toothed the guy who said about his clothes date from 1880s to 1890s is he sure I no billy was killed in 1881 it could be if so it will be the 3rd photo of the kid they said the one were he playing croket wasn't him to but it got authenticated exciting times
Best reply yet mate
Billy the kid looking like Tom holland in that second photo
Unbelievable!! Every picture is the kid. Does anyone have any integrity, money is the only reason every picture is the kid. And she sacrificed her integrity for money. This picture is NOT THE KID, not in any shape or form
okay, James Pelkey says it isn't him...so everyone pack their shit, go home, it's not him......
Is this a joke? Looks nothing like him..the teeth match???? This is ridiculous.
Theres 2 and a half minuets I will never get back.
Billy looks drunk in the tintype so the eyes won't match. The only match is the ears are similar. Plain to see Billy's tintype has a longer face but age difference could explain that, but NOT to my satisfaction. This is not Billy the Kid, and I question these so-called experts...
Interesting image. Lots of tin types on ebay I found 2 that look like they could be Billy the kid.
The expert has EYES? TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Just look at the eyes for starters, completely different. The Whole face is different, the body...the pose. This is silly.
2men,very different atmosphere, different fashion..... different face...
and what about the position of ears ?
No.
Not even close to being the same person good fn god get a clue
Woow! Que increible! Si en realidad esta foto es autentica de Billy the Kid, significaria que nunca murio a los 21 años.
I got a whole photo album of Billy The Kid. Will consider all offers above my reserve of 10 million.
The croquet photo looks pretty close from a distant shot. This doesn't, from a close- in shot.
Many people at this time used to wear the same clothes and have the same haircut,,,,
Man I love William
Very interesting... they do look very much alike.
These are totally two different boys.
This is really cool
Anyone?
There is still only one authenticated photo of Billy The Kid
Not true, there is the newer "croquet" picture.
Billy the kid had his own photographer and was known to stop often when running from the law and take pictures.
Get all the pics side by side and I'll prove to you the picture of the village people will look closer to the real pic. Pics coming along all of a sudden are not even close.
either he lost a bunch of weight as he got older or this is not him... look at the distance from his nose to his side cheeks.. way different.. and how "long" in the face billy is.. the new photos does not have that effect... the only match is the ring and thats about a 50/50 guess..
Video didn't state if the complete provenance was authenticated concerning the origin of this photo which is needed to prove it's authenticity.
It's all in the eyes...they look different
Um . . . no.
In Rudousa might have spelled that wrong at the btk museum you walk in the door and on the right door post they have the tin tip picture and a picture of btk taken in the 1920's that was found in the attic of a railroad conduters attic that was a friend of bills and it does look just like btk
The eyebrows of the cowboy Kid are vastly darker than the suited Kid though. Not the Kid! That broad is wrong!
He better keep that photo as a Family Heirloom, & make damn sure no one in family ever gets rid of it for ANY reason. That there is PRICELESS, UNIQUE.
It’s not priceless…the last one had a hefty price, enough to change you and your family’s lives forever. He’ll sell, you just don’t get on t.v. and say so…extended family shows up out of nowhere.
How many photographers were in Lincoln county in 1870s the total population was like450 and billy wasn’t at the local bar saying pics of billy the kid
Notorious outlaw, sure let's just get our picture taken everywhere we go. Like come on people.
I don't think so...😎 Just saying
