When I watched the TLJ director commentary, he said "I knew I had go get these two to talk without killing each other" and that's why he did the force bond scenes, and my question has been WHY did he need to get them to talk? He didn't touch on that, but the assumption is that he had to get them to talk so that a relationship could be built. Which is total reylo proof imo 🙌🏼 Another thing that comes to mind, is that at the end when Ben is kneeling, instead of destroying the room (which is how Kylo would react to Rey shutting the door), he just stays kneeling and sad. This is a huge indication that he's changed significantly, and that he feels shame/ some remorse for how he acted on Crait.
In fact, I struck me K/B has both knees on the ground, his hands leaning on his legs, his head bent down at the end, signs of tears across his left cheek, and that look in his eyes....a suffering, sad, begging person (Please stay...I was wrong...forgive me....don't go away again!)....anger is used up and gone.....the scene reminds me of some old Medieval or Reinassance pictures about Holy Mary and a worshipper : Rey is set higher in a frame (door) with light from behind, K the worshipper is kneeling on a lower level in a dark room....some light shows from the windows behind him but doesn't touch him....

Excellent point. I never even thought of that. He's very angry only moments before. But he goes right to the room with the dice, almost like he's drawn there. When the dice disappear, I think it symbolizes the reality that he can't undo what he's done. His father is gone forever. I just wonder what he's thinking, maybe realizing that his anger could have caused Rey's and his mother's deaths as it caused Han's, and he wouldn't be able to take that back. That's pretty sobering. I think he's hurting so much and felt abandoned yet again that everything surged to the surface and he wanted to destroy all of it, like that would finally finish his descent to the dark side and he'd finally be free of the pain and "weakness" of caring about people.
@@marydidyouknow5826 I think he's experimenting the "desent" into suffering to rise to the surface again as a better person: he' s following the hero/antihero or villain/antivillain journey in the outside and also the heroine's journey inside, that is psychlogically: so his arc is more complex and diffucult than that of Rey.
When he drops the dead praetorian guard behind him and stands up- he looks like he wants to worship Rey - like he wants to devour her - he’s enraptured by her. I mean- - just watch his face as he stands up! Why else would Kylo deadlock eyes on her and rise to her- and yesssss- She’s chicken- along w wanting to help her friends - but yeah - she’s not ready to let him devour her yet😂😂😂.
Taking a minute to think on what happened to Anakin and Padme in the prequels, and also to Han and Leia in the original movies.... The only way everything could feel right to me is for romantic love to finally be portrayed as something good that is worth pursuing, and as the ultimate healing, helpful and creative force. Romantic love needs to win the day, after the prequels painted it as something bad that must be avoided no matter what that avoidance takes. Also, it didn't last for Han and Leia, and ended bittersweetly. It needs to last for Ben and Rey, and to end the story happily and well. Reylo would be the perfect way to show romantic love being victorious, and to end the Skywalker Saga on a happy note after forty two years. #ReyloIsEndgame
Whenever I see Rey holding the broken legacy lightsaber at the end, I am reminded of the part in the novelization where it says something about Rey being good at fixing broken things, or used to fixing broken things. For me that part fits in so well with her staring down sadly at the broken lightsaber. Uhggg I could talk about the symbolism in SW all day! Its a guilty pleasure. Before i went into tlj, I was hopeful for a little Reylo.. I really wanted to see some force bond or dream sharing type stuff but never actually believed they'd go there, and when then did i was like 🤩 NO way they are doing it!!😍😍😍! So thrilled and i love rewatching those scenes!! The actors did such a great job with it!! i do hope they get a happy endgame.. i just saw a ship i like shattered last night on a tv show so I'm really hoping that this one makes it!

Wow, I've been waiting for this video and I love it :) You forgot about one thing - ying and yang symbolism which is in fact present and hinted at throughout the whole movie :) As for the shirtless scene with Kylo - of course apart from praising Adam Driver's effort at the gym - in my opinion it served another purpose: to show that Ben Solo treats Rey differently than the rest of the world and his bare chest symbolizes his openness to her. In "TFA" we have him covered from face to hands, there is literally no fragment of the bare skin visible. He's masked, gloved and cloaked. I suppose this is one of the ways in which he wants to manifest his reluctance towards the human connection and the human touch. He's been isolated for so many years, nobody has touched him, nobody has had any human contact with him and it seems he dreads any of such activities on the surface as his alter-ego Kylo Ren has to be strong and immune to such things ("I will not be seduced"). However, deep inside Ben Solo craves for such connection - he's human after all. And I think he has this affection to Rey, he's been seduced since the interrogation I think :) That is why he doesn't bother to cover his body, he's not ashamed, he's not afraid, he DOES want her to see him like that, to see a man in him, not a masked faceless and skinless figure so to say. She's probably the first person he trusts and develops affection for. Getting rid of his outfit's elements continues when Kylo takes his glove off - not that if he wanted he could touch Rey's hand in a glove - yet, he feels the need to experience her bare skin on his fingers and this makes this scene ever more intimate, he wants to feel her fully on him (some people compare it to the first sexual contact between two young people who are both virgins and are curious of what its like to feel each other on a more intimate level than just holding hands or kissing and Ben's taking off the glove is compared to a boy quickly taking off his boxer shorts in order to be inside the girl). With Ben (and Rey) it's quite similar. She extends her hand as she is curious of what will happen and he extends his (shaky) hand back as he desires this human contact which he had been deprived of for so many years. Bonus: who is the first person Kylo Ren takes his mask off for? Snoke? Nope, it's...Rey. Even JJ claimed that they wanted it to go this way.
Another excellent podcast! And yes, I was also very annoyed by how unfazed Rey was after leaving him. It makes it look like he doesn't matter to her at all now. There is a small crack in her "mask" though when she's looking at Finnrose while holding the broken legacy saber (ie, Ben's broken heart).
Tracy L To me, Rey looked angry in the closing door scene, and sad while holding the broken lightsaber. That shows she already feels something for Ben.
Ooohhhhh yeeesss this podcast. 1000% agree that Rey had to reject him at the end of TLJ. Their separation is necessary for their development as individuals and as a pair. I'm just here internally screaming about their reunion scene, no matter how it plays out.
I'm glad you brought up the lightsaber because it seems that has been totally absent from things talked about. I thought the same thing too, that the lightsaber would not go to each and my thoughts on it was because something positive had entered into Kylo/Ben's heart or soul OR he allowed his true nature to take him over because I never was convinced that his true nature was evil so much as very hurt and by allowing himself to feel, he brought him closer to the light. The same with Rey. People seem to believe we are in the original trilogy because as much as I love ANH when I look back on it, they had a simple framework mostly of this is the bad and this is the good. The only think they showed really was the exchange between Luke and Vader and ever that was not explored as good as it might have been if it were made within the past couple decades. I understand George Lucas's vision with Joseph Campbell but audiences were not ready for that just yet. We had just gotten out of Vietnam, there was a lot of social unrest, a turbulent time and audiences were not ready for something complex, they wanted sweet and simple and I guess I can understand why that was given I was born during the Vietnam conflict and it was still going on when I was a kid. One of the things that people seem to miss, especially this one broad who makes videos about how Kylo is an abuser and Reylo is abusive is that people, things, situations and events are not cut and dry. There is a layer added to the mix because people are complicated and cannot be summed up in simple terms or be broken down as either this or that. A person is more than just one specific incident that happened in their lives but of many things that have happened. Remorse, regrets, disappointments even for younger people make up the whole and it is naive to think that some of these things, no matter how much we try to fight it, influences our actions. Rey has some darkness in her too. Maybe not a lot, but when she went into that cave, I thought that (unlike the old Jedi and their stupid teachings) she was not afraid to look at, see or confront her dark side and that it showed her courage of wanting answers even if she was afraid of what she would find. I thought she walked away from it, not with disappointment but with something to ponder about where she could look inside herself for answers because she has all she really needs. Kylo/Ben has not quite gotten there because to me it seems that he is afraid. He has courage but he also has doubt and is afraid of what he will find because there is also a lot of good in him and at the moment when they are "fighting" over the lightsaber, it knew and could not go to either given that Rey is confronting her darker self and Kylo is accepting his lighter self.
What a pleasant surprise to wake up to. At first I was disappointed that they didn't end the movie together, however looking back I think that was probably the best decision that they could have made. I am a fan of delayed gratification, so I'm happy that we have more to look forward to in Episode 9. Also we don't want to blow the whole Reylo load in one movie, because then why would we be excited about the next movie?
Another fantastic podcast! I love listening to your reviews on Reylo and how you pick apart the evidence laid out before us. I’ll be watching TLJ on repeat until IX comes out! Can’t believe how much Reylo there is in the film! The force bond scenes were visually stunning and the sound editing, such as how Rey and Kylo’s voices echo and reverb when they connect is on another level and remarkable. All the teams have done a fantastic job with VII and VIII - Adam and Daisy too are made for the roles and can’t wait to see what happens next. I hope that they split episode IX into two parts, like Disney have with Infinity War, to give us more screen time and develop the story further! I also heard about a Kylo Ren comic in development, which will expand on Ben Solo’s backstory further, which I can’t wait to hear more about! It’s a great time to be a Reylo shipper! This made my day! TLJ definitely gave us more Reylo than I could have ever hoped for. I'm someone who initially wanted Ben to have left the FO by the end of the second film, not even necessarily for early romance but just so we could get a whole third film with Ben on the right path. But, like you guys said, their separation just prepares us for the catharsis of it finally happening in Ep. IX and it's really exciting now that filming has started. I also hope that it happens early on or in the early midpoint of the film. BTW don't worry about those guys trying to be edgy with the tired "twilight" insults. I saw one and, like, it's so obvious they don't even watch the videos. It was also really nice seeing how you included a lot of Rian's quotes about certain scenes you were discussing. I can't believe how mainstream Reylo is now! We've come so far since the early-TFA days.
Wonderful Podcast as always! Love your analysis and comments! Lee has an excellent point about Anakin & Padmé's relationship. Padmé - who is presented as this wholesome good person with high morals- just shrugs of Anakin slaughtering the sand people in AoC like it never happened. Like it's the normal thing to do when you're angry. As much as I would've loved Rey to take Kylo's hand in TLJ (and there are great fanfics out there with that scenario)...it was the right decision in that moment to refuse his proposal. Even if going for the lightsaber a second later wasn't- but Rey isn't perfect either, so it's fine. Can't wait for JJ to bring these two together and (hopefully) having a happy ending!
Did you consider that J.J.Abrams made the TV serie “Felicity”. And it ends with Felicity and BEN ending up together. So J.J. really like the male love interest to be named ben.😜
i have this fantasy where the resistance finds out about the force connection, they don't use it to their advantage. instead they are afraid she has been giving him information, even if inadvertantly, and they worry Kylo will use her to get to them. Then they banish her. She has nowhere to go but to try again to turn him. Alternately, she's heartbroken that her new family has cast her aside. Hopeless now, she goes back to what she knows, scavenging so she can survive. then he figures out where she is thru one of their force scenes and comes for her.
Indeed. I think Poe will low-key be an antagonist; Finn is the new Leia for me. The Resistance will try to exploit the Reylo connection or they will demand that Rey kill Kylo. I don't see them kicking her out though. Either way, it will be DRAMA once they find out about the Force bond. XD
I think Reylo is so obvious but I made my husband watch all the star wars for the first time and I ask him what he though would happen in 9 and he said " rey is obviously going to be with finn and I think Kylo will die" 😂🤣😂🤣 needless to say, we are not friends anymore haha
Emm 3 I feel like people respond that way because that's a very common ending.... its something that would happen in any other saga. They would kill the "bad guy" and the girl would get with the least complicated guy. But if you really get immersed in star wars and all the supplementary materials, you start to see it's really not in line with the general themes and traditions of star wars.

It says "Kylo did turn, using Luke's lightsaber to cleave Snoke in two. But rather than save the Resistance, he asked Rey to join him so they could rule together." ☕ That's on the official Star Wars website. It says He DID TURN. Just sayin'. 😁
By the way...have you ever listen to the official Spotify playlist for Rey and Kylo Ren ?. And even watched some of the Music videoes?. If not, please go and watch some of them. I dropped my jaw when I watched : Breaking Benjamin - Ashes of Eden and Shawn Hook - Sound of Your Heart. The text and visuals is quit telling. It would be interesting to know sometime, your take on them in context to Reylo.
There are so many Reylo songs on Rey’s playlist, it’s crazy! And even a few on Kylo’s too! Though I do wish they would add to them. There are still so many great Reylo songs out there. I have my own list that I am constantly adding to!

Y’all made me think about something for episode 9: Kylo went to the dark side with a purpose and goal to become more powerful than Vader and rule the galaxy as Supreme Leader (this is pre-Rey). After meeting our heroine, he made a change or exception after their finger-touch vision, which was to include Rey in his goal to rule the galaxy. Since Rey refused his offer, wouldn’t you think Kylo would try to do something to “win her back” if he still loves or has feelings for her? Now taking the episode 9 leak into account, what if Kylo does become a good leader and ruler, but it’s to attract Rey to come back to him or show her that he’s not the monster she thought he was anymore? What if he genuinely tries to be a good leader to bring peace to the galaxy, but Hux and the other Generals/Officers betray him to gain back their iron-fist control? I just thought this could be an interesting route, because it would show Kylo’s slow transition into being a ‘good guy’, similar to how Darcy (from Pride and Prejudice) or the Beast (Beauty & the Beast) also changed their ways and behavior after having a confrontation with their romantic partner. Because I’ll be really upset if Kylo becomes a good guy in the last 10 minutes of the movie like Vader! Um no, I need official Reylo at least mid-way of the movie for me to be satisfied 😂
I love this. I love that you guys hinted and talked about how the sexual images around Rey, like girls aren’t suppose to be sexual. But she sees Ben shirtless and goes into the wet hole and comes out as a new woman. All wet and her hair down... then after her sexual awakening she has her first tender innocent time. Of course they're going to have kids, but I mean the little, day-to-day details. Who takes more than their half of the bed, who snores like a Hutt all night, which of them hogs the sheets. Yeah, that's a little boring for some, but in the stuff that comes after Episode 9 I want little things like that. And it doesn't have to be whole pages of that, it could just be in passing banter. Excellent points yet again! I agree with Lee that I was bothered by Rey’s carefree attitude on the falcon when shooting down tie fighters on Crait. Especially after that emotionally charged proposal scene with Kylo. Seemed a bit out of character for me. I think that maybe they were trying to call back to the scene in ANH with Luke shooting the tie fighters with the same gun. Luke was enjoying it too in that scene. But I would have done it differently. Definitely felt out of place. Reylo is endgame! It’s so darn obvious! So many hints and clues out there, and not just in the movies themselves!
She is fighting for the resistance, plus, Rey has a strong fighting, violent streak, and is doing what Finn did in the last film, which impressed her. Doesn’t seem OOC to me.
Hey Lee and Denise, I have been having a few questions going on in my mind for Star Wars Episode 8 and 7. 1. What forest did Kylo mean? When he says "You have that look in your eyes, from the forest." what forest was he talking about? Was he talking about Takodaonna or Star Killer Base? This was just a thought. 2. this question is something that has been in my mind for weeks. What happened with Rey's vision. Remember in Rey's vision in Episode 7 about the Knights of Ren. Well, what if that vision is in Episode 9, what if Kylo does find her and one of the knights of Ren tried to kill her but Rens love and compassion for her made him protect her so, he killed one of the Knights. And now I am wondering how that will go down with the other Knights of Ren? Will, they attack Kylo or will they stand with Kylo? And what do you think will happen with Rey and Kylo at this moment? 3. Did anyone notice when Kylo and Rey are touching hands, Luke comes in and you see Kylo still reaching out for Rey but she Pulled her hand back away from him?
There is something else to consider. The First Order and the Resistance were receiving weapons from the arms dealers on the casino planet, and when DJ betrayed Finn and Rose, he told the First Order information even Finn didn't know. Its obvious that there is someone instigating the war and, JUST MAYBE, Sonke's purpose was to keep Rey and Kylo apart in order to not only make the New Republic AND the First Order from becoming strong enough stand against his masters but to end the Skywalker line? I think Kylo Ren deduced Snoke's true motives (and they were not to see the First Order become the dominant force in the galaxy) and said, "Hey, this guy is not only using me, he's c***blocking me. He's gotta go!
can you guys talk about the music showing his emotions? I'm obsessed with that music after the Luke fight where Kylo's theme breaks down and gets seriously crazed as he screams in his rage at everything. "Everything" being: He didn't get the girl, he didn't get his revenge on her to decimate the resistance, his uncle tricked him by distraction on top of Luke's previous ultimate betrayal, and he hates himself for letting Snoke make him into this worthless disgusting monster that deep down he thinks he is. "Everything" may also include his toast being burnt that morning. After all, the boy does seem to rage easily. :) You mentioned in an earlier vid that Kylo's theme started playing at his first request of her to join him. That opened my eyes that he was Kylo in that moment, not Ben from the finger touch scene. I suppose I should have realized that when he immediately yelled so angrily at her still holding on to the past.
I so agree with you about Rey's attitude in the Battle of Crait! it was soo out of character in my opinión, that "wow i love this!" like what on earth?? she was in tears like half an hour before and also she loves killing people?? i don't like that part but i think the problem there was Rian's weird sense of humor and out of place lol!And can we please have a reylo day??, you could convene reylos to vote or something and i propose october 9th (TLJ tráiler release day) it ws such a beautiful reylo day!!
@17:37 Just goes to show that she's still like a child, like him. Looking at them that way will make people understand their actions more. It also makes their interactions a bit funny, especially when you see their scenes again. They're like kids trying to one up each other most of the time.
I also wonder what Rey did after waking up and seeing Kylo/Ben there passed out. I saw a video where he used the scene of The Little Mermaid over Eric when he was unconscious on the shore and she's singing to him because she didn't kill him and something had to have happened. I wonder if we will see a flashback of that. Great video ladies. I always love your videos because the discussion is always worth listening to.
Can you comment on whether you think Rey is Ben Kenobi’s granddaughter? It seems to be foreshadowed in TLJ. After the hologram of Leia asking for Obi-wan Kenobi’s help the scene shifts immediately to Rey.
Dai Sy Part of me agrees with you. After TFA, JJ admitted that Rey is not related to anyone shown in that movie - so she's not a Skywalker or a Solo. And I did like that she's truly a nobody in TLJ, and wouldn't have a problem with them leaving it that way. As you said, it doesn't even matter anymore. BUT, if she were to be a Kenobi, think of the full circle value. Chronologically, it began in the prequels with Anakin and Obi Wan as friends, practically brothers. Anakin turns dark. Obi Wan fights him. In the originals, Obi Wan is killed by Anakin. In life, they never reconnected. Now, in the sequels, they have the chance to have the grandson of Anakin and the granddaughter of Obi Wan unite.
When Kylo takes Rey to Snoke, I thought it was because he thought she would turn to the dark side and Snoke would welcome her. He said he saw that she would turn.
Yeah, that's a possible interpretation or the movie and makes sense, but based on RJ's comments, the idea was that Kylo walked in the throne room decided to kill Snoke.
hi, im back and more reylo than ever! before i start rambling, i want to tell you both, amazing work as always :D! i just wanted to ramble a bit about one of my favourite forcebond scenes and some other opinions i have. this comment section honestly feels like a safer place to do so than tumblr lol. i believe it was the second forcebond scene. rey is standing at the rocks by the sea and the force connects them. there is a lot of buildup ("yes i am", "ah you do" [those three words actually haunt me adam driver is amazing]) and towards the end of the scene (where the gud shit happens), there is a moment between them. kylo/ben has provoked her into seeing past "the creature in the mask". and lo and behold as the forcebond fades out, a wave crashes onto the rocks where rey stands *literally* getting her wet. and then you see ben, wiping his *mouth* and watching a drop of water from her drip down his glove. it's so *obviously* a metaphor for him going down on her that im confused about how people completely ignore it. anyway let's get to cuter stuff. personally, i think that both rey and ben saw brief visions of one another through the force growing up. (someone posted a thread about this on twitter which was amazing.) him more than her, as the force was close to dormant inside of her ("the force" could actually be sexuality hmmmmm ;)). maybe through this horrible cloud of darkness in young ben solo's mind caused by snoke, there was also powerful, comforting light. far away, but prominent. a girl that haunted him for 19 years. this implication could be applied to the "it is you" quote from tfa as well. getting that out of the way, no part of me thinks that the forcebond is severed. a fucking building crashed around them and the bond didn't sever so a closing door definitely shouldnt. do i think it may not return for a while? maybe. but it's not lost forever. thank you for reading through my 12 AM ramblings (there are noises outside h e l p) and please keep providing us with these amazing podcasts! they are very much appreciated in this time of drought.
To me, it was always so obvious (and I'm sure to loads of other people as well) that Finn and Rey are just friends. Then I saw this Rey and Finn comment and I was just thinking "No. I've only ever seen a friendship..." And I love that, that they can just be and are, really good friends. There was something so nice about that hug at the end of TLJ. They just have this strong bond. Although I am worried about that Rey and Poe meeting at the end of TLJ - that there could be some Rey and Poe type romantic tension. There could be a love triangle in a sense? I support Reylo though.
Rey and Finn are awesome! We don't think there will be any love triangle and there doesn't seem to be any signs pointing towards that. If that were the case, it would have started much earlier.

THANK YOU. I've been saying this, shouting it out on other channels. Everyone says that Kylo is this mass murderer who needs to be destroyed when he was NOT the one who ordered mass murders. The ones he did kill were personal and not "business" because he was after Luke for trying to KILL HIM IN HIS SLEEP. She is probably the only one he has felt any kind of connection with and vice versa. And, I've been saying that there is enough blood to go around on The First Order and the Resistance/Rebellion though TFO probably has more with Hux and his ordering of the entire system. Also, the rumors of the planet being exploited by Kylo as the Supreme Leader and I think it is possibly that he may not know everything that goes on because he's on the top of the food chain and his underlings more specifically Hux. It's possible that Kylo will not be aware of a remote planet but will be used by Hux to seize power and stage a coup. Maybe it's just me, but I do not see the bloodlust in Kylo/Ben. I feel that the part that is there is something that afterwards makes him more regretful and remorseful. He killed Han and has regretted it ever since. And, he needed to hear Luke tell him that he failed him and I think he's gonna think on that and Luke was right, it will stay with him just like his dad is. I also think that both Rey and Kylo?Ben have unreal expectations of the other. Rey does want to help and save people and expecting her to change in an instant is not possible. On the other side, asking Kylo/Ben to forget everything, and remember Snoke was whispering to him all his life, and from the book we know that he was very powerful and as a child would break things not understanding that he had this power and when he would get mad, as children do, he would make things happen that he didn't mean to. Then having him listen to his parents talk about what to do with him all the while having Snoke whisper that they fear him. Even in the novel, Han and Leia never really talked to him, they talked about him and that further alienated him from other people. Then he gets shipped off to Luke and, going by the old Jedi teachings doesn't think to talk with him and help him work through some of these things that were "showing up in his training" but instead ops to wait until he's asleep, Jedi mind fucks him, sees ONE potential outcome, charges up his lightsaber, then changes his mind and while he is feeling shame, Ben wakes up to his own uncle poised to kill him and so he responded as many others would have too. Rey was right when she yelled at Luke about thinking his choice had been made for him. However, expecting him ot go with her and forget about all of that heartbreak was also very unrealistic and I think or hope in the next movie both of them realize that they both had unrealistic expectations of each other at that time.

I enjoyed listening to you guys. I recently watched the prequels after many years, having had been a fangirl back in the 2000s. I watched for the STORY, parsing as much as i could. As tragic romances go, all the ingredients are there and the reasons why Anidala had to be like that. I cried like a baby on RotS. Each trilogy is different purposefully - but the romance is always there - i don't know what these Twilight butthurts are on about. Maybe you guys could look at Anidala thoughtfully in an episode?
I'm a prequels fan and an Anidala fan and I didn't like the cheap shots. Why can't Star Wars fans just discuss what they love about the saga without trashing some other aspect of it?
We're prequel fans too. But Anidala was a tragic love story, and the differences show that this is not the way Reylo is going. We do laugh at the prequel lines, though, but that is part of the prequels' charm. We had no intention to trash the prequels, and apologize if that was the impression you got.

@13:55 another great podcast, you guys continue to give me so much Hope™ going into EPIX! but I feel I have to point out (as I have been for the last 8 months, lol) that Kylo never said he saw Rey's future. What he said was, "I saw something too, and *because of what I saw* I know that when the time comes you'll be the one to turn." What he saw was Rey's parents (which he outright states), and he just assumed, armed with this info, that she would just naturally turn to the Dark side with him.... which apparently in his mind is the only conceivable solution to having shitty parents, lmao. I also point out that what Rey saw has already come to pass -- she says that, if she goes to him, he'll turn on Snoke and join her. And that's exactly what happened! They were both right -- in the moment. He defied Snoke and they fought side by side. But that's where the vision ends. He saw her past and made assumptions based on it, and she saw his *immediate* future, not some far-off thing in the distance. That's not to say they won't eventually come together in the end, but as far as THIS Force-vision goes, it already served its purpose in TLJ.
Mmm, I think he saw both. She did stand with him, after all. And he, in the end, didn't bow before Snoke. It was the turning to the other side they both misinterpreted.

It means that they are planned as a couple who's going to get together at the end of the story, that it's not a passing fad or temptation. It means that these two together is a direction that has been planned from the beginning, that it's where it's headed.
I keep getting flashbacks to the time before TLJ and I remember how great the trailer was, but how suspicious I was of them trolling Reylos. I am still suspicious that it's all been a big gaslighting experiment and ep9 will be awful.
The only gaslighting was done by the fans who told us we were crazy and seeing things that were not there, don't worry. So far we've got like 90% of our predictions correct, so there's no reason to think there will be any change.

If reylo ends up happening I'm walking out of the theater. I loved the last Jedi and The Force Awakens, but this "Reylo" shit (ship names are retarded anyways), episode 9 will be one of my least favorite Star Wars movies.
In other words, Reylo's not just the ST's "great romance", it's arguably its whole story. There was so much going on in the PT outside of Anidala and so much going on in the OT outside of HanLeia. But there's precious little going on in the ST outside of Reylo - the Resistance plot is pure filler. A sad development for a space opera that stands on the shoulders of a bond between a father and son.
In other words, Reylo or "redemptive love" is the central theme of the ST, just as the father/son reconciliation and Anakin's eventual redemption was central to the OT. Central theme =/= ONLY theme in the OT, nor is it in the ST.

Lee Green I guess the answer to your question is simple enough, even if it doesn't quite make 100% sense. Luke and Vader are family. They have this very important thing called a backstory which isn't necessary to explain all the details but gives reason to why characters do what they do, or even exist. Knowing what motivates people makes what they do seem reasonable. I don't know what goes through Rey's head so to me her behavior feels rather unpredictable 😞 And also there is the fact many Reylo people seem to just want romance. Wasn't Chewie's love story with the Porgs enough? (Kidding, kidding. That last part was a joke)
@Alesia, Luke and Vader share a backstory, but we know that now after seeing the PT; in the OT itself we don't know much about Anakin Skywalker, so Luke's determination to save his father is attributable only to his individual qualities like kindness, hope, forgiveness and quickness to make attachment: in short, being a hero. In many ways Rey's decision to cross the galaxy to save Ben Solo and put her life at risk has more behind it narratively, because it's her hero qualities + what she experienced directly of Ben Solo through their Force bond that spurs her on when she flies to him. That being said I think your criticism here is valid regarding Rey's characterization, and it's something I've talked about before; we're not privy to what she saw in the vision or her thought process, we don't know much of her feelings so her actions come off as fickle and some people have felt that her emotions come across as shallow. The fact is that her behavior makes sense when you look at her as a survivor of childhood trauma/abandonment turned hardened survivor of Jakku, but the criticism stands that this is too subtle and too cerebral for a satisfying blockbuster movie viewing experience. Like I said before, it's a movie, not a psychology class. I think they should have done more with Rey and I'm hoping they develop her more in IX. @Sabastian Palpatine, I'm a Reylo and I can tell you that the majority of us know full well that there is a difference between the actors and the characters they portray. Adam Driver is married and from what I've seen most Reylo fans respect that.Of course Adam and Daisy have amazing on screen chemistry, and you can bet on that being one of the reasons why they were cast opposite each other. It's not wrong for fans to enjoy that aspect of the Reylo dynamic, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

Wonderful and meaningful video as always! The female insight goes deep as the cultural knowledge of the structure of novels/storytelling. Observation n° 1= in TLJ the saber "salomonically" (pun) breaks in two because neither of them is worthy yet of wielding it fully or they got equal power in the Force, in fact I think it's important to underline that Kylo is getting near the light, improving himself, changing, otherwise the saber wouldn't have stayed in the middle of the air, it would have flied to Rey as in TFA. Moreover, did you notice that Anakin's sword allows Kylo to subtly manipulate her in order to strike down Snoke? It seems the saber could read/feel the real intent of people better than Snoke and senses the improvement of Kylo. Observation n° 2: about the well known shirtless scene, I don't think someone noticed another aspect of it: Kylo's chest, under the black "armour" of the jacket, is extremely white, pale, shiny because of sweat, so irradiating and reflecting light and showing his hidden good nature inside. Observation n° 3= The film is not mimicking Twilight stuff : Rey rejected twice the dark proposals and didn't went along with him. If anything the reverse! When I watched the TLJ director commentary, he said "I knew I had go get these two to talk without killing each other" and that's why he did the force bond scenes, and my question has been WHY did he need to get them to talk? He didn't touch on that, but the assumption is that he had to get them to talk so that a relationship could be built. Which is total reylo proof imo 🙌🏼 Another thing that comes to mind, is that at the end when Ben is kneeling, instead of destroying the room (which is how Kylo would react to Rey shutting the door), he just stays kneeling and sad. This is a huge indication that he's changed significantly, and that he feels shame/ some remorse for how he acted on Crait.

In fact, I struck me K/B has both knees on the ground, his hands leaning on his legs, his head bent down at the end, signs of tears across his left cheek, and that look in his eyes....a suffering, sad, begging person (Please stay...I was wrong...forgive me....don't go away again!)....anger is used up and gone.....the scene reminds me of some old Medieval or Reinassance pictures about Holy Mary and a worshipper : Rey is set higher in a frame (door) with light from behind, K the worshipper is kneeling on a lower level in a dark room....some light shows from the windows behind him but doesn't touch him....

Excellent point. I never even thought of that. He's very angry only moments before. But he goes right to the room with the dice, almost like he's drawn there. When the dice disappear, I think it symbolizes the reality that he can't undo what he's done. His father is gone forever. I just wonder what he's thinking, maybe realizing that his anger could have caused Rey's and his mother's deaths as it caused Han's, and he wouldn't be able to take that back. That's pretty sobering. I think he's hurting so much and felt abandoned yet again that everything surged to the surface and he wanted to destroy all of it, like that would finally finish his descent to the dark side and he'd finally be free of the pain and "weakness" of caring about people.

When he drops the dead praetorian guard behind him and stands up- he looks like he wants to worship Rey - like he wants to devour her - he’s enraptured by her. I mean- - just watch his face as he stands up! Taking a minute to think on what happened to Anakin and Padme in the prequels, and also to Han and Leia in the original movies....
The only way everything could feel right to me is for romantic love to finally be portrayed as something good that is worth pursuing, and as the ultimate healing, helpful and creative force. Romantic love needs to win the day, after the prequels painted it as something bad that must be avoided no matter what that avoidance takes. Also, it didn't last for Han and Leia, and ended bittersweetly. It needs to last for Ben and Rey, and to end the story happily and well.
Reylo would be the perfect way to show romantic love being victorious, and to end the Skywalker Saga on a happy note after forty two years.

Whenever I see Rey holding the broken legacy lightsaber at the end, I am reminded of the part in the novelization where it says something about Rey being good at fixing broken things, or used to fixing broken things. For me that part fits in so well with her staring down sadly at the broken lightsaber. Uhggg I could talk about the symbolism in SW all day! Its a guilty pleasure. Before i went into tlj, I was hopeful for a little Reylo.. I really wanted to see some force bond or dream sharing type stuff but never actually believed they'd go there, and when then did i was like 🤩 NO way they are doing it!!😍😍😍! So thrilled and i love rewatching those scenes!! Wow, I've been waiting for this video and I love it :) You forgot about one thing - ying and yang symbolism which is in fact present and hinted at throughout the whole movie :)
As for the shirtless scene with Kylo - of course apart from praising Adam Driver's effort at the gym - in my opinion it served another purpose: to show that Ben Solo treats Rey differently than the rest of the world and his bare chest symbolizes his openness to her. In "TFA" we have him covered from face to hands, there is literally no fragment of the bare skin visible. He's masked, gloved and cloaked. I suppose this is one of the ways in which he wants to manifest his reluctance towards the human connection and the human touch. He's been isolated for so many years, nobody has touched him, nobody has had any human contact with him and it seems he dreads any of such activities on the surface as his alter-ego Kylo Ren has to be strong and immune to such things ("I will not be seduced"). However, deep inside Ben Solo craves for such connection - he's human after all. And I think he has this affection to Rey, he's been seduced since the interrogation I think :) That is why he doesn't bother to cover his body, he's not ashamed, he's not afraid, he DOES want her to see him like that, to see a man in him, not a masked faceless and skinless figure so to say. She's probably the first person he trusts and develops affection for. Getting rid of his outfit's elements continues when Kylo takes his glove off - not that if he wanted he could touch Rey's hand in a glove - yet, he feels the need to experience her bare skin on his fingers and this makes this scene ever more intimate, he wants to feel her fully on him (some people compare it to the first sexual contact between two young people who are both virgins and are curious of what its like to feel each other on a more intimate level than just holding hands or kissing and Ben's taking off the glove is compared to a boy quickly taking off his boxer shorts in order to be inside the girl). With Ben (and Rey) it's quite similar. She extends her hand as she is curious of what will happen and he extends his (shaky) hand back as he desires this human contact which he had been deprived of for so many years. Bonus: who is the first person Kylo Ren takes his mask off for? Snoke? Nope, it's...Rey. Even JJ claimed that they wanted it to go this way.

Another excellent podcast! And yes, I was also very annoyed by how unfazed Rey was after leaving him. It makes it look like he doesn't matter to her at all now. There is a small crack in her "mask" though when she's looking at Finnrose while holding the broken legacy saber (ie, Ben's broken heart).

Ooohhhhh yeeesss this podcast. 1000% agree that Rey had to reject him at the end of TLJ. Their separation is necessary for their development as individuals and as a pair.

I'm glad you brought up the lightsaber because it seems that has been totally absent from things talked about. I thought the same thing too, that the lightsaber would not go to each and my thoughts on it was because something positive had entered into Kylo/Ben's heart or soul OR he allowed his true nature to take him over because I never was convinced that his true nature was evil so much as very hurt and by allowing himself to feel, he brought him closer to the light. The same with Rey. People seem to believe we are in the original trilogy because as much as I love ANH when I look back on it, they had a simple framework mostly of this is the bad and this is the good. The only think they showed really was the exchange between Luke and Vader and ever that was not explored as good as it might have been if it were made within the past couple decades. I understand George Lucas's vision with Joseph Campbell but audiences were not ready for that just yet. We had just gotten out of Vietnam, there was a lot of social unrest, a turbulent time and audiences were not ready for something complex, they wanted sweet and simple and I guess I can understand why that was given I was born during the Vietnam conflict and it was still going on when I was a kid.
One of the things that people seem to miss, especially this one broad who makes videos about how Kylo is an abuser and Reylo is abusive is that people, things, situations and events are not cut and dry. There is a layer added to the mix because people are complicated and cannot be summed up in simple terms or be broken down as either this or that. A person is more than just one specific incident that happened in their lives but of many things that have happened. Remorse, regrets, disappointments even for younger people make up the whole and it is naive to think that some of these things, no matter how much we try to fight it, influences our actions. Rey has some darkness in her too. Maybe not a lot, but when she went into that cave, I thought that (unlike the old Jedi and their stupid teachings) she was not afraid to look at, see or confront her dark side and that it showed her courage of wanting answers even if she was afraid of what she would find. I thought she walked away from it, not with disappointment but with something to ponder about where she could look inside herself for answers because she has all she really needs. Kylo/Ben has not quite gotten there because to me it seems that he is afraid. He has courage but he also has doubt and is afraid of what he will find because there is also a lot of good in him and at the moment when they are "fighting" over the lightsaber, it knew and could not go to either given that Rey is confronting her darker self and Kylo is accepting his lighter self.
What a pleasant surprise to wake up to.
At first I was disappointed that they didn't end the movie together, however looking back I think that was probably the best decision that they could have made. I am a fan of delayed gratification, so I'm happy that we have more to look forward to in Episode 9. Also we don't want to blow the whole Reylo load in one movie, because then why would we be excited about the next movie?
Another fantastic podcast! I love listening to your reviews on Reylo and how you pick apart the evidence laid out before us. I’ll be watching TLJ on repeat until IX comes out! Can’t believe how much Reylo there is in the film! The force bond scenes were visually stunning and the sound editing, such as how Rey and Kylo’s voices echo and reverb when they connect is on another level and remarkable. All the teams have done a fantastic job with VII and VIII - Adam and Daisy too are made for the roles and can’t wait to see what happens next. I hope that they split episode IX into two parts, like Disney have with Infinity War, to give us more screen time and develop the story further! I also heard about a Kylo Ren comic in development, which will expand on Ben Solo’s backstory further, which I can’t wait to hear more about! It’s a great time to be a Reylo shipper! This made my day! TLJ definitely gave us more Reylo than I could have ever hoped for. I'm someone who initially wanted Ben to have left the FO by the end of the second film, not even necessarily for early romance but just so we could get a whole third film with Ben on the right path. But, like you guys said, their separation just prepares us for the catharsis of it finally happening in Ep. IX and it's really exciting now that filming has started. I also hope that it happens early on or in the early midpoint of the film.

Wonderful Podcast as always! Love your analysis and comments! Lee has an excellent point about Anakin & Padmé's relationship. Padmé - who is presented as this wholesome good person with high morals- just shrugs of Anakin slaughtering the sand people in AoC like it never happened. Like it's the normal thing to do when you're angry. As much as I would've loved Rey to take Kylo's hand in TLJ (and there are great fanfics out there with that scenario)...it was the right decision in that moment to refuse his proposal. Even if going for the lightsaber a second later wasn't- but Rey isn't perfect either, so it's fine. Can't wait for JJ to bring these two together and (hopefully) having a happy ending!

i have this fantasy where the resistance finds out about the force connection, they don't use it to their advantage. instead they are afraid she has been giving him information, even if inadvertantly, and they worry Kylo will use her to get to them. Then they banish her. She has nowhere to go but to try again to turn him.
Alternately, she's heartbroken that her new family has cast her aside. Hopeless now, she goes back to what she knows, scavenging so she can survive. then he figures out where she is thru one of their force scenes and comes for her.
Indeed. I think Poe will low-key be an antagonist; Finn is the new Leia for me. The Resistance will try to exploit the Reylo connection or they will demand that Rey kill Kylo. I don't see them kicking her out though. Either way, it will be DRAMA once they find out about the Force bond. XD

Emm 3 I feel like people respond that way because that's a very common ending.... its something that would happen in any other saga. They would kill the "bad guy" and the girl would get with the least complicated guy.
But if you really get immersed in star wars and all the supplementary materials, you start to see it's really not in line with the general themes and traditions of star wars.

Y’all made me think about something for episode 9:
Kylo went to the dark side with a purpose and goal to become more powerful than Vader and rule the galaxy as Supreme Leader (this is pre-Rey). After meeting our heroine, he made a change or exception after their finger-touch vision, which was to include Rey in his goal to rule the galaxy. Since Rey refused his offer, wouldn’t you think Kylo would try to do something to “win her back” if he still loves or has feelings for her? Now taking the episode 9 leak into account, what if Kylo does become a good leader and ruler, but it’s to attract Rey to come back to him or show her that he’s not the monster she thought he was anymore? What if he genuinely tries to be a good leader to bring peace to the galaxy, but Hux and the other Generals/Officers betray him to gain back their iron-fist control? I just thought this could be an interesting route, because it would show Kylo’s slow transition into being a ‘good guy’, similar to how Darcy (from Pride and Prejudice) or the Beast (Beauty & the Beast) also changed their ways and behavior after having a confrontation with their romantic partner. Because I’ll be really upset if Kylo becomes a good guy in the last 10 minutes of the movie like Vader! Um no, I need official Reylo at least mid-way of the movie for me to be satisfied 😂

But she sees Ben shirtless and goes into the wet hole and comes out as a new woman. All wet and her hair down... then after her sexual awakening she has her first tender innocent time. Excellent points yet again! I agree with Lee that I was bothered by Rey’s carefree attitude on the falcon when shooting down tie fighters on Crait. Especially after that emotionally charged proposal scene with Kylo. Seemed a bit out of character for me. I think that maybe they were trying to call back to the scene in ANH with Luke shooting the tie fighters with the same gun. Luke was enjoying it too in that scene. But I would have done it differently. Definitely felt out of place.
Reylo is endgame! It’s so darn obvious! So many hints and clues out there, and not just in the movies themselves!
She is fighting for the resistance, plus, Rey has a strong fighting, violent streak, and is doing what Finn did in the last film, which impressed her. Doesn’t seem OOC to me.
Hey Lee and Denise, I have been having a few questions going on in my mind for Star Wars Episode 8 and 7.
1. What forest did Kylo mean? When he says "You have that look in your eyes, from the forest." what forest was he talking about? Was he talking about Takodaonna or Star Killer Base? This was just a thought.
2. this question is something that has been in my mind for weeks.
What happened with Rey's vision. Remember in Rey's vision in Episode 7 about the Knights of Ren. Well, what if that vision is in Episode 9, what if Kylo does find her and one of the knights of Ren tried to kill her but Rens love and compassion for her made him protect her so, he killed one of the Knights. And now I am wondering how that will go down with the other Knights of Ren? Will, they attack Kylo or will they stand with Kylo? And what do you think will happen with Rey and Kylo at this moment?
3. Did anyone notice when Kylo and Rey are touching hands, Luke comes in and you see Kylo still reaching out for Rey but she Pulled her hand back away from him?
And in fairy tales, the third time is the time when things work out, and Kylo has already asked Rey to join him twice.

There is something else to consider. The First Order and the Resistance were receiving weapons from the arms dealers on the casino planet, and when DJ betrayed Finn and Rose, he told the First Order information even Finn didn't know. Its obvious that there is someone instigating the war and, JUST MAYBE, Sonke's purpose was to keep Rey and Kylo apart in order to not only make the New Republic AND the First Order from becoming strong enough stand against his masters but to end the Skywalker line? I think Kylo Ren deduced Snoke's true motives (and they were not to see the First Order become the dominant force in the galaxy) and said, "Hey, this guy is not only using me, he's c***blocking me. He's gotta go!
can you guys talk about the music showing his emotions? I'm obsessed with that music after the Luke fight where Kylo's theme breaks down and gets seriously crazed as he screams in his rage at everything. "Everything" being: He didn't get the girl, he didn't get his revenge on her to decimate the resistance, his uncle tricked him by distraction on top of Luke's previous ultimate betrayal, and he hates himself for letting Snoke make him into this worthless disgusting monster that deep down he thinks he is. "Everything" may also include his toast being burnt that morning. After all, the boy does seem to rage easily. :) You mentioned in an earlier vid that Kylo's theme started playing at his first request of her to join him. That opened my eyes that he was Kylo in that moment, not Ben from the finger touch scene. I suppose I should have realized that when he immediately yelled so angrily at her still holding on to the past.

Dai Sy Part of me agrees with you. After TFA, JJ admitted that Rey is not related to anyone shown in that movie - so she's not a Skywalker or a Solo. And I did like that she's truly a nobody in TLJ, and wouldn't have a problem with them leaving it that way. As you said, it doesn't even matter anymore. BUT, if she were to be a Kenobi, think of the full circle value. Chronologically, it began in the prequels with Anakin and Obi Wan as friends, practically brothers. Anakin turns dark. Obi Wan fights him. In the originals, Obi Wan is killed by Anakin. In life, they never reconnected. Now, in the sequels, they have the chance to have the grandson of Anakin and the granddaughter of Obi Wan unite.
I want to see Ben declare his love for Rey before they learn that she is Ben Kenobi’s granddaughter-if that is the case.
When Kylo takes Rey to Snoke, I thought it was because he thought she would turn to the dark side and Snoke would welcome her. He said he saw that she would turn.
Yeah, that's a possible interpretation or the movie and makes sense, but based on RJ's comments, the idea was that Kylo walked in the throne room decided to kill Snoke.

before i start rambling, i want to tell you both, amazing work as always :D!
i just wanted to ramble a bit about one of my favourite forcebond scenes and some other opinions i have. this comment section honestly feels like a safer place to do so than tumblr lol.
i believe it was the second forcebond scene. rey is standing at the rocks by the sea and the force connects them. there is a lot of buildup ("yes i am", "ah you do" [those three words actually haunt me adam driver is amazing]) and towards the end of the scene (where the gud shit happens), there is a moment between them. kylo/ben has provoked her into seeing past "the creature in the mask". and lo and behold as the forcebond fades out, a wave crashes onto the rocks where rey stands *literally* getting her wet.
and then you see ben, wiping his *mouth* and watching a drop of water from her drip down his glove. it's so *obviously* a metaphor for him going down on her that im confused about how people completely ignore it.
anyway let's get to cuter stuff.
personally, i think that both rey and ben saw brief visions of one another through the force growing up. (someone posted a thread about this on twitter which was amazing.) him more than her, as the force was close to dormant inside of her ("the force" could actually be sexuality hmmmmm ;)). maybe through this horrible cloud of darkness in young ben solo's mind caused by snoke, there was also powerful, comforting light. far away, but prominent. a girl that haunted him for 19 years.
this implication could be applied to the "it is you" quote from tfa as well.
getting that out of the way, no part of me thinks that the forcebond is severed. a fucking building crashed around them and the bond didn't sever so a closing door definitely shouldnt. do i think it may not return for a while? maybe. but it's not lost forever.

To me, it was always so obvious (and I'm sure to loads of other people as well) that Finn and Rey are just friends. Then I saw this Rey and Finn comment and I was just thinking "No. I've only ever seen a friendship..." And I love that, that they can just be and are, really good friends. There was something so nice about that hug at the end of TLJ. They just have this strong bond. Although I am worried about that Rey and Poe meeting at the end of TLJ - that there could be some Rey and Poe type romantic tension. There could be a love triangle in a sense? I support Reylo though.
Rey and Finn are awesome! We don't think there will be any love triangle and there doesn't seem to be any signs pointing towards that. If that were the case, it would have started much earlier.

THANK YOU. I've been saying this, shouting it out on other channels. Everyone says that Kylo is this mass murderer who needs to be destroyed when he was NOT the one who ordered mass murders. The ones he did kill were personal and not "business" because he was after Luke for trying to KILL HIM IN HIS SLEEP.
She is probably the only one he has felt any kind of connection with and vice versa. And, I've been saying that there is enough blood to go around on The First Order and the Resistance/Rebellion though TFO probably has more with Hux and his ordering of the entire system.
Also, the rumors of the planet being exploited by Kylo as the Supreme Leader and I think it is possibly that he may not know everything that goes on because he's on the top of the food chain and his underlings more specifically Hux. It's possible that Kylo will not be aware of a remote planet but will be used by Hux to seize power and stage a coup. Maybe it's just me, but I do not see the bloodlust in Kylo/Ben. I feel that the part that is there is something that afterwards makes him more regretful and remorseful. He killed Han and has regretted it ever since. And, he needed to hear Luke tell him that he failed him and I think he's gonna think on that and Luke was right, it will stay with him just like his dad is.
I also think that both Rey and Kylo?Ben have unreal expectations of the other. Rey does want to help and save people and expecting her to change in an instant is not possible. On the other side, asking Kylo/Ben to forget everything, and remember Snoke was whispering to him all his life, and from the book we know that he was very powerful and as a child would break things not understanding that he had this power and when he would get mad, as children do, he would make things happen that he didn't mean to. Then having him listen to his parents talk about what to do with him all the while having Snoke whisper that they fear him. Even in the novel, Han and Leia never really talked to him, they talked about him and that further alienated him from other people. Then he gets shipped off to Luke and, going by the old Jedi teachings doesn't think to talk with him and help him work through some of these things that were "showing up in his training" but instead ops to wait until he's asleep, Jedi mind fucks him, sees ONE potential outcome, charges up his lightsaber, then changes his mind and while he is feeling shame, Ben wakes up to his own uncle poised to kill him and so he responded as many others would have too. Rey was right when she yelled at Luke about thinking his choice had been made for him. However, expecting him ot go with her and forget about all of that heartbreak was also very unrealistic and I think or hope in the next movie both of them realize that they both had unrealistic expectations of each other at that time.

Keen the idea of Kylo unaware of exploitation of the far planet: Hux himself could have organized the thing and kept it hidden to use it against K. at the right moment as "fake news". Let's remember that these stories are connected to real life and criticise it!!

I enjoyed listening to you guys. I recently watched the prequels after many years, having had been a fangirl back in the 2000s. I watched for the STORY, parsing as much as i could. As tragic romances go, all the ingredients are there and the reasons why Anidala had to be like that. I cried like a baby on RotS. Each trilogy is different purposefully - but the romance is always there - i don't know what these Twilight butthurts are on about. Maybe you guys could look at Anidala thoughtfully in an episode?

We're prequel fans too. But Anidala was a tragic love story, and the differences show that this is not the way Reylo is going. We do laugh at the prequel lines, though, but that is part of the prequels' charm. We had no intention to trash the prequels, and apologize if that was the impression you got.

I will defend the Prequels from haters with fangs and claws -- but I will make fun of them with equal zest because to me they are as ridiculous as they are amazing and that's what I love about them. @13:55 another great podcast, you guys continue to give me so much Hope™ going into EPIX! but I feel I have to point out (as I have been for the last 8 months, lol) that Kylo never said he saw Rey's future. What he said was, "I saw something too, and *because of what I saw* I know that when the time comes you'll be the one to turn." What he saw was Rey's parents (which he outright states), and he just assumed, armed with this info, that she would just naturally turn to the Dark side with him.... which apparently in his mind is the only conceivable solution to having shitty parents, lmao. I also point out that what Rey saw has already come to pass -- she says that, if she goes to him, he'll turn on Snoke and join her. And that's exactly what happened! They were both right -- in the moment. He defied Snoke and they fought side by side. But that's where the vision ends. He saw her past and made assumptions based on it, and she saw his *immediate* future, not some far-off thing in the distance. That's not to say they won't eventually come together in the end, but as far as THIS Force-vision goes, it already served its purpose in TLJ.
Mmm, I think he saw both. She did stand with him, after all. And he, in the end, didn't bow before Snoke. It was the turning to the other side they both misinterpreted.

It means that they are planned as a couple who's going to get together at the end of the story, that it's not a passing fad or temptation. It means that these two together is a direction that has been planned from the beginning, that it's where it's headed.

I keep getting flashbacks to the time before TLJ and I remember how great the trailer was, but how suspicious I was of them trolling Reylos. I am still suspicious that it's all been a big gaslighting experiment and ep9 will be awful.
The only gaslighting was done by the fans who told us we were crazy and seeing things that were not there, don't worry. So far we've got like 90% of our predictions correct, so there's no reason to think there will be any change.

In other words, Reylo's not just the ST's "great romance", it's arguably its whole story. There was so much going on in the PT outside of Anidala and so much going on in the OT outside of HanLeia. But there's precious little going on in the ST outside of Reylo - the Resistance plot is pure filler. A sad development for a space opera that stands on the shoulders of a bond between a father and son.
In other words, Reylo or "redemptive love" is the central theme of the ST, just as the father/son reconciliation and Anakin's eventual redemption was central to the OT. Central theme =/= ONLY theme in the OT, nor is it in the ST.

Lee Green I guess the answer to your question is simple enough, even if it doesn't quite make 100% sense. Luke and Vader are family. They have this very important thing called a backstory which isn't necessary to explain all the details but gives reason to why characters do what they do, or even exist. Knowing what motivates people makes what they do seem reasonable. I don't know what goes through Rey's head so to me her behavior feels rather unpredictable 😞
And also there is the fact many Reylo people seem to just want romance. Wasn't Chewie's love story with the Porgs enough? (Kidding, kidding. That last part was a joke)
@Alesia, Luke and Vader share a backstory, but we know that now after seeing the PT; in the OT itself we don't know much about Anakin Skywalker, so Luke's determination to save his father is attributable only to his individual qualities like kindness, hope, forgiveness and quickness to make attachment: in short, being a hero. In many ways Rey's decision to cross the galaxy to save Ben Solo and put her life at risk has more behind it narratively, because it's her hero qualities + what she experienced directly of Ben Solo through their Force bond that spurs her on when she flies to him.
That being said I think your criticism here is valid regarding Rey's characterization, and it's something I've talked about before; we're not privy to what she saw in the vision or her thought process, we don't know much of her feelings so her actions come off as fickle and some people have felt that her emotions come across as shallow. The fact is that her behavior makes sense when you look at her as a survivor of childhood trauma/abandonment turned hardened survivor of Jakku, but the criticism stands that this is too subtle and too cerebral for a satisfying blockbuster movie viewing experience. Like I said before, it's a movie, not a psychology class. I think they should have done more with Rey and I'm hoping they develop her more in IX.
@Sabastian Palpatine, I'm a Reylo and I can tell you that the majority of us know full well that there is a difference between the actors and the characters they portray. Adam Driver is married and from what I've seen most Reylo fans respect that.Of course Adam and Daisy have amazing on screen chemistry, and you can bet on that being one of the reasons why they were cast opposite each other. It's not wrong for fans to enjoy that aspect of the Reylo dynamic, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
Lee Green Point well taken. When I said Luke & Vader had a "backstory" I didn't necessarily mean the prequel trilogy, mostly what we found out in the first three movies. To me that seemed like plenty (including, like you said, his personality) to make what Luke did seem reasonable.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they do it would be completely predictable and would alienate the hard core feminist fan base who think hetero normative relationship diminish female autonomy. If they don't, they alienate their pre teen Twilight fan base looking for their next magical bad boy to save and don't do the only interesting thing they've been setting up between these two characters. I don't think that it's "damned if they do". Very small group of people are legit Reylo haters; overall it has been quite the crowdpleaser. As for "damned if they don't": yup. Not because of imaginary enraged Twilight fans who are also preteens (???) but because, as you indicated, without Reylo the story has nowhere real to go.
I hope you are right, I really do. Anything that helps burn down this dumpster fire should be in the film. Even "normies" are going to be laughing at how Disney turned Star Wars into Twilight in space....and you are right, they are marketing Reylo to children.....Disney is injecting sex into the franchise and many of the fans are pissed off about it.

Wonderful and meaningful video as always! The female insight goes deep as the cultural knowledge of the structure of novels/storytelling. Observation n° 1= in TLJ the saber "salomonically"
(pun) breaks in two because neither of them is worthy yet of wielding it fully or they got equal power in the Force, in fact I think it's important to underline that Kylo is getting near the light, improving himself, changing, otherwise the saber wouldn't have stayed in the middle of the air, it would have flied to Rey as in TFA. Moreover, did you notice that Anakin's sword allows Kylo to subtly manipulate her in order to strike down Snoke? It seems the saber could read/feel the real intent of people better than Snoke and senses the improvement of Kylo.
Observation n° 2: about the well known shirtless scene, I don't think someone noticed another aspect of it: Kylo's chest, under the black "armour" of the jacket, is extremely white, pale, shiny because of sweat, so irradiating and reflecting light and showing his hidden good nature inside. Observation n° 3= The film is not mimicking Twilight stuff : Rey rejected twice the dark proposals and didn't went along with him. If anything the reverse!
