Once you are comfortable with using it on the plywood, I would get some solid wood species to make jewelry from, walnut, black walnut, purple heart, maple, ash, oak (white and red) etc. There are lots of really different beautiful wood grains/colors - you will just need to be aware of how the hardness of the wood will impact the function of the laser. If you have never seen purple heart wood, you should check it out - it is beautiful. It more expensive, but with the smaller sizes you would need, I don't think it would be too bad. I do wood working along with jewelry making, and I would not recommend plywood for jewelry. Due to the way plywood is made, you are more likely to run into issues with voids in a layer, as well as splinters on the edges. In wood working, you would generally edge band the plywood if the edge where you can see the layers is going to be exposed.

Where you able to figure out why small things do not get center with the laser ?

Nice review! I’m a total newbie! So this helps me greatly.
I’m deciding between the D1 Pro and F1.
D1 Pro for larger working area, and F1 for basically being able to use the “laser” guide to position small items before engraving them.
My question is: on the D1 Pro, how would you accurately position/centre small items to engrave without sacrificing a bunch of material before engraving?
The xTool F1 seems to solve this issue with its “laser” guide system.

You can etch on the brass. Draw a simple design with a fine sharpie.

Nice video! What a great gift to have for yourself, and we'll be watching for the continual "Laser Saga" and your excellent projects!!! ... Is the XTool compatible with Leather, Vinyl, Cork & Canvas fabrics? ... Is there a setting or dial to increase & decrease the heat and cutting depth?

Anyone who wants to try this, be careful of fumes. This doesn't have a hood/enclosure to exhaust any fumes, and there are some materials that should never be laser cut. Ever.

You can do the same thing with electro-etching far cheaper. Also it does a better job of removing metal so you can get more depth and use patinas more effectively.
