just got the outback a week ago on winter sale, have a dry suit but will probably not use till march here in NY. The boat looks absolutely killer and your video helped a lot, this has been my dream kayak since they first came out I am so happy I went for it
Have used my new mirage outback several times a week for last three months here in the pacific coast of Mexico. I primarily fish around the small islands offshore as well as go 1-3 miles offshore for the mahi mahi. Noticed the seat installation sometimes doesn’t fit properly and will come loose during my fishing trip. Not good. Also the seat frame has numerous sheet metal screws that have already began to rust out. They definitely cut costs on the seat or subbed it out. Definitely needs to be improved. I replaced them with stainless screws. 12 total. Also noticed the rudder is controlled by two knobs on each side of kayak. I like that but the rudder is too large and too sensitive. Makes it difficult to keep a straight line while peddling. I shaved my rudder down and works much better especially in rough seas. Peddle system is fine no problems yet I hope not ever but bought extra chain and cable just in case it breaks in the future. Overall a good kayak. Give it 4 stars
Hi. Sorry, I just saw your question. I love my PA12. It is very comfortable but I will tell you that is not as stable on rough water. On rougher water I prefer my outback or my PA 14. On calmer waters it is just as nice as the pa14, but also a lot easier to load and unload
Have to add: these boats can be a tad fragile. I own the tandem island. Bought it last year brand new. So far, we’ve been out only 4-5 trips with it and the first two times I lost 1 little rudder “up” symbol. Popped out at one point. Cracked one of my mirage drives near the nut on a tension bolt. Lost a batten cap (had to deep search the internet for a replacement) among a few other things. I learned early to be real delicate with it. One gripe I have is parts aren’t readily available. At least here in Canada. Lots of “out of stock” items when I’m looking for accessories or replacement parts.
Thank you for the input and for watching. Maybe I just got lucky with mine. It has been bulletproof. It even hit the asphalt at 45 mph when my straps broke and took it like a champ, except for for damaged stickers. I hope your issues get worked out quickly and easily! I am not employed or sponsored by Hobie. I just have had good experiences with all of mine. Tight lines!
It was actually just some thing I made. I had a piece of black HDPE plastic that I cut. It worked pretty good. Thank you for watching man. Have a great day.
You are correct. Yes it does. I don’t typically use mine, because it’s not a big issue for me loading on the beach. But, if you were having a load on concrete or asphalt, then you would probably need to use it.
@@Saltyakcharters thank you! I bought the Outback today, super thrilled to try it out! This is my first Hobie and first pedal drive kayak. I used a regular kayak with a paddle before so I can only imagine what the difference will be.
New Sub! Cool video. I'm actually trading in my 2021 PA12-360 for an Outback today thus the video research before heading down there. The PA12 is just too heavy for me to load and unload into the back of my truck. You know it is a problem when you think twice about going fishing. I was told the Outback is considerably lighter so I am going that route. Thanks for the great video. It answers all my questions.
Hi Paul. I own a PA 360 14, a pa12, compass and the Outback. I agree, the pro angler is quite a load to move around. The outback is definitely a little bit easier to deal with. I hope you are loving your new outback. Tell me all about it once you’ve had it out a couple times.
Hi Richard. Great question. Quite frantically, I do not like the anchor wizard. That emergency release you mentioned is one reason, the other reason is simply unreliable to stay in its spot without wiggling loose.
Hi Mac, I do not have a review of either of my pro anglers just yet. I own a PA 12, and a PA 360 14. I have only owned both of those pro anglers for a couple of months now, so wanted to have a little more time under my belt with them before posting a review. That said, I will tell you, I love them both. They are great in every way, except that they are quite a load to move around in the garage, load and unload, etc..
Sorry. Just saw your question. I posted a video about my PA 12 recently, and will be doing detailed reviews of the PA 12, and the PA 14 360 soon. Thanks for watching!
Can you do this specific move with it ? ruclips.net/user/shortsBOuG8wvIkrc?feature=share Does your kayak make the same noise and have the same wobbling ?
Hi there. No. I just went and double checked mine and it does not wiggle as the one in your video. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you. Thanks for watching!

I absolutely agree with you on all your point! Great video!

Just got mine and can’t wait to get on the water. Great Video Sir 👍
Congratulations! Tight lines!
Get her on the water yet?
@@Saltyakcharters He sank it.
Wait….what???
@@Saltyakcharters Kidding. It would be funny if that is why he never replied after first launch.

Great info. Thank you! Tight lines!
Fantastic review, will definitely positively affect my kayak purchase decision.
Did you decide what you are going to buy?
I love table rock, I go there and roaring river at least once a year!
Table rock is amazing. Thanks for watching!
...and what do you say about the PA 12? :-)

Hey man great review! What is the mounting plate you are using for the anchor wizard?
It was actually just some thing I made. I had a piece of black HDPE plastic that I cut. It worked pretty good. Thank you for watching man. Have a great day.
If you could only have one would it be the outback or PA14? Thanks!
Oh…I hope I never have to make that choice. They are both amazing in their own way
Doesn’t it come with some loading thing that you can attach to the back that keeps it more stable when you raise the bow?
You are correct. Yes it does. I don’t typically use mine, because it’s not a big issue for me loading on the beach. But, if you were having a load on concrete or asphalt, then you would probably need to use it.

I'm loving it! So much lighter and faster. I can't believe the diffference.
What about emergency release and retrieval of the anchor

sorry about that. This was one of my earlier videos, and that was a lesson learned the hard way.
