Thanks for these series. Learned a lot. At first I was put off by the weird way selecting objects worked. Sometimes dotted selection indicator, sometimes rectangles and sometimes I couldn’t select anything at all. Thanks to your series I gave it another shot and fell in love with freeform.
Glad I could help you with that.
You are a natural teacher! Great informative video! I love keeping up with the Freeform updates!!
So true !
Thanks for your support.
Excellent tutorial. Very useful tips. Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful.
Man, your content is great and very useful ! Thank you for your work!
Thank you for watching.
Your lecture is Great. Is’s very helpful to me.
Thanks!
However, there is one problem with the Freeform app. One of the advantages of Freeform is that the pages can be expanded indefinitely, but as I continue to expand and use it, when I handwrite with the Apple Pencil, the iPad starts to have a lag problem. (This problem also occurs in the Memo app.) I don't know if it is because of the lack of memory on my iPad.
I heard (and tested) that including to much handwriting produces lag. Not sure, whether the new iPads with bigger RAM behave better there. I have no problem with big boards, as long as most of the elements are shapes, text or images. But including lots of handwriting seems to still be a problem. Sorry.
@@patrickstoeckmann Thank you for your kind reply!
Patrick is back ! 🤓 ✌🏻Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for being patient.
A few questions. First has there been any work on allowing use of templates? If not, any thoughts on ifvthey'll add this later?
I'm interested in using Freeform to build Mind Maps. Since there isn't template options, how would you recommend building Mind Maps? Would hate to just build it from standard blocks & lines since that would be just building a picture vs a design that can carry additional info.
What would be the best way to build a multilayer Mind Map? For instance a map that has both single layer objects and objects that hou could select that would bring you to another mapped out idea?
Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.
Honestly, you shouldn‘t use Freeform for this. That is not what it was build for. There are more specialized apps for Mind Mapping. Freeform doesn‘t have templates (and I don‘t know when or even if this will ever come). You can‘t collapse branches like in Mind Map apps. Also multilayer is also not really feasible. You can only create multiple boards and create jump points between them via the link option. So, I would choose a different and specialized Mind Map app for that.
Rgarding number One, if you double click in box (Shape) you can directly type. 👍
Yes, you can since V1, but you can’t add a text only object. So no easy way to create something like this: nesslabs.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/scapple-screenshot-2.png
@@patrickstoeckmann Dear Patrick, it is possible to create the diagram shown in the link above. I made similar diagrams easily. If you had an e-mail, I would send you a JPEG.
-add text box and type,
-than click connectors,
-than connect text or object. Just like connecting shape to shape.
You can connect text, shape, picture as well as text to text or text to shape without any hassle.
I know how to do it. But the workflow would be faster if I could drag a connector, then select Text as an element. If you’ve ever used an app like Scapple, you’ve known how much faster you can create these. Also in V1 Freeform had the text element in the Shape selector. They moved it out of there for better discoverability.
@@patrickstoeckmann I have not used Scapple before, but Wondershare EdwardMind, which I use for Mindmap/Perceptual map, is one of the most advanced programs in this regard. In fact, when Freeform first came out, I could not understand why Freeform was added among Apple Note, Reminder... and Page echo system. However, I came to the conclusion that Apple decided to fill the need and gap in the field of visual concept and mindmap. However, when we compare EdwardMind, Miro, Lucidspark, MindNode, I agree with you that Freeform is much slower and not practical in the mindmap/Chart field. However, it has some advantages from the Apple echo system that these programs do not have. Indeed i agree, Freeform needs more development.
Great tutorial! Can we have a collaboration?
I am open. What do you propose? You can contact me under request@citc.de.

1:12 "You can't add text". ??
Well yes you can, just double-click the object. 😊
What I meant is you can't add a text object directly from a connector. Adding text to a shape (or object) has been available since the start. I thought of creating idea maps like these: images.app.goo.gl/jb7VLuPKn9c1Ttzb9
